The Brjuno function arises naturally in the study of one--dimensional analytic small divisors problems. It belongs to $\hbox{BMO}({\Bbb T}^{1})$ and it is stable under Hölder perturbations. It is related to the size of Siegel disks by various rigorous and conjectural results.
In this work we show how to extend the Brjuno function to a holomorphic function on ${\Bbb H}/{\Bbb Z}$, the complex Brjuno function. This has an explicit expression in terms of a series of transformed dilogarithms under the action of the modular group.
The extension is obtained using a complex analogue of the continued fraction expansion of a real number. Since our method is based on the use of hyperfunctions it applies to less regular functions than the Brjuno function and it is quite general.
We prove that the harmonic conjugate of the Brjuno function is bounded. Its trace on ${\Bbb R}/{\Bbb Z}$ is continuous at all irrational points and has a jump of $π/q$ at each rational point $p/q\in {\Bbb Q}$.
Let $f$ be a germ of holomorphic diffeomorphism of $\C^n$ fixing the origin $O$, with $df_O$ diagonalizable. We prove that, under certain arithmetic conditions on the eigenvalues of $df_O$ and some restrictions on the resonances, $f$ is locally holomorphically linearizable if and only if there exists a particular $f$-invariant complex manifold. Most of the classical linearization results can be obtained as corollaries of our result.
We describe the topological behavior of typical orbits of complex quadratic polynomials P_alpha(z)=e^{2πi alpha} z+z^2, with alpha of high return type. Here we prove that for such Brjuno values of alpha the closure of the critical orbit, which is the measure theoretic attractor of the map, has zero area. Then combining with Part I of this work, we show that the limit set of the orbit of a typical point in the Julia set is equal to the closure of the critical orbit.
Brjuno and Rüssmann proved that every irrationally indifferent fixed point of an analytic function with a Brjuno rotation number is linearizable, and Yoccoz proved that this is sharp for quadratic polynomials. Douady conjectured that this is sharp for all rational functions of degree at least 2, i.e., that non-Möbius rational functions cannot have Siegel disks with non-Brjuno rotation numbers. We prove that Douady's conjecture holds for the class of polynomials for which the number of infinite tails of critical orbits in the Julia set equals the number of irrationally indifferent cycles. As a …
We show that if a 1-hyperbolic structurally finite entire function of type $(p,q)$, $p\ge 1$, is linearizable at an irrationally indifferent fixed point, then its multiplier satisfies the Brjuno condition. We also prove the generalized Mañé theorem; if an entire function has only finitely many critical points and asymptotic values, then for every such a non-expanding forward invariant set that is either a Cremer cycle or the boundary of a cycle of Siegel disks, there exists an asymptotic value or a recurrent critical point such that the derived set of its forward orbit contains this invariant …
We study the 1/2--Complex Bruno function and we produce an algorithm to evaluate it numerically, giving a characterization of the monoid $\hat{\mathcal{M}}=\mathcal{M}_T\cup \mathcal{M}_S$. We use this algorithm to test the Marmi--Moussa--Yoccoz Conjecture about the Hölder continuity of the function $z\mapsto -i\mathbf{B}(z)+ \log U(e^{2πi z})$ on $\{z\in \mathbb{C}: \Im z \geq 0 \}$, where $\mathbf{B}$ is the 1/2--complex Bruno function and $U$ is the Yoccoz function. We give a positive answer to an explicit question of S. Marmi et al [MMY2001].
We give a simple uniqueness criterion (and some derived criteria) for holomorphic Abel functions and show that Kneser's real analytic Abel function of the exponential is subject to this criterion.
We consider the family of CIFSs of generalized complex continued fractions with a complex parameter space. This is a new interesting example to which we can apply a general theory of infinite CIFSs and analytic families of infinite CIFSs. We show that the Hausdorff dimension function of the family of the CIFSs of generalized complex continued fractions is continuous in the parameter space and is real-analytic and subharmonic in the interior of the parameter space. As a corollary of these results, we also show that the Hausdorff dimension function has a maximum point and the maximum point belon…
We define an analogue of the Baernstein star function for a meromorphic function f in several complex variables. This function is subharmonic on the upper half-plane and encodes some of the main functionals attached to f.We then characterize meromorphic functions admitting a harmonic star function.
We seek random versions of some classical theorems on complex approximation by polynomials and rational functions, as well as investigate properties of random compact sets in connection to complex approximation.
This is a survey of some recent results concerning polynomial inequalities and polynomial approximation of functions in the complex plane. The results are achieved by the application of methods and techniques of modern geometric function theory and potential theory.
The purpose of this paper is to give exact value of the radius of starlikeness and distortion theorem, Koebe domain for the class of Janowski's starlike functions of complex order. We note that the class of Janowski's starlike functions of complex order contain many interesting subclasses of univalent functions.
In this work we propose composition products in the class of complex harmonic functions so that the composition of two such functions is again a complex harmonic function. From here we begin the study of the iterations of the functions of this class showing briefly their potential to be a topic of future research. In parallel, we define and study composition operators whose symbols belong to a Hardy space of complex harmonic functions also introduced in the work. All this constitutes a previous work for the research of semigroups and evolutionary families composed of complex harmonic functions…
Thirty research questions on meromorphic functions and complex differential equations are listed and discussed. The main purpose of this paper is to make this collection of problems available to everyone.
We prove some results which give sufficient conditions so that pointwise approximation of negative plurisubharmonic functions on complex varieties by continuous plurisubharmonic ones is possible.
We prove a strong version of the comparison principle for bounded plurisubharmonic function on complex varieties. we then apply our main result to study convergence of Mong-Ampere mesures for bounded plurisubharmonic functions.
Answering an old question, we find a domain X in the complex projective plane CP^2 which admits a strongly plurisubharmonic function, but such that every holomorphic function on X is constant. The domain X can be chosen diffeomorphic to an oriented real 2-plane bundle over the 2-sphere.
In this paper, we obtain Fekete-Szegö inequality for the generalized bi-subordinate functions of complex order. The results, which are presented in this study, would generalize those in related works of several earlier authors.
Consider the Loewner equation associated to the upper-half plane. Normally this equation is driven by a real-valued function. In this paper, we show that when the driving function is complex-valued with small $1/2$-Hölder norm, the corresponding hull is a quasi-arc, hence is a simple curve. We also study how the hull changes with respect to complex parameters and make a connection between Loewner equation and complex dynamics.
Despite the fact that there is a huge amount on papers and books devoted to the theory of Jacobian elliptic functions, very little is known when the modulus $k$ of these functions lies outside the unit interval $[0,1]$. In this note, we prove some simple inequalities for the absolute value of Jacobian elliptic functions with complex modulus.
We prove a Zalcman-Pang lemma in several complex variables and apply it to obtain several complex variables analogues of the known normality criteria like Lappan's five-point theorem and Schwick's theorem.
A class theorem is presented and proved: the complex Fourier transforms of a certain class of exponential functions have all their zeros on the real line. A class of basis functions is first considered, and the class is then extended via the method of convolutions.
This paper studies the complex Monge-Ampère equations for $\mathcal F$-plurisubharmonic functions in bounded $\mathcal F$-hyperconvex domains. We give sufficient conditions for this equation to solve for measures with a singular part.
In this paper, we introduce and investigate two new subclasses of analytic functions in the open unit disk in the complex plane. Several interesting properties of the functions belonging to these classes are examined. Here, sufficient, and necessary and sufficient conditions for the functions belonging to these classes are also given. Moreover, coefficient bound estimates for the functions belonging to these classes are obtained.
We prove that a relatively compact pseudoconvex domain with smooth boundary in an almost complex manifold admits a bounded strictly plurisubharmonic exhaustion function. We use this result for the study of convexity and hyperbolicity properties of these domains and the contact geometry of their boundaries.
In the introduction part of this paper, first of all, the concept of absolute integral sum of complex function is defined, as more general one with respect to the concept of integral as well as of integral sum of "ordinary'' integral calculus. In the main part of the paper, on the basis of redefined concepts of a spatial derivative as well as of a residue of a complex function, the fundamental results of Cauchy's calculus of residues of analytic functions are generalized and the concept of total value of improper integral of complex function is defined. Finally, the results in the form of fund…
In this paper, we continue our investigation of function spaces on certain classes of complex-valued functions. In particular, we give characterizations on Hardy-type, Bergman-type and Dirichlet-type spaces. Furthermore, we present applications of our results to certain nonlinear PDEs.
Let $M$ be an $n$-dimensional complex manifold. A holomorphic function $f:M\to \mathbb C$ is said to be semi-Bloch if for every $λ\in \mathbb C$ the function $g_λ=\exp(λf(z))$ is normal on $M$. We characterise Semi-Bloch functions on infinitesimally Kobayashi non-degenerate $M$ in geometric as well as analytic terms. Moreover, we show that on such manifolds, semi-Bloch functions are normal.
A class of complex Fourier Transforms of exponential functions which have all their zeros on the real line is explored from a geometric perspective. These transforms belong to the Laguerre - Polya class, and it is proved that all the zeros are simple.
In 1949 Siegel gave an example of a complex two-torus with no nonconstant meromorphic functions. In 1964 Kodaira showed that compact complex surfaces with no nonconstant meromorphic must be of the following three types: tori, Hopf type surfaces with first Betti number equal to one, and K3 surfaces. In this paper we show that surfaces of these three types have a dense set of surfaces in their natural moduli spaces with no nonconstant meromorphic functions.
We study properties of a Green function G_A with singularities along a complex subspace A of a complex manifold X. It is defined as the largest negative plurisubharmonic function u satisfying locally u\leq \log|ψ|+C, where ψ=(ψ_1, ...,ψ_m), ψ_1, ...,ψ_m are local generators for the ideal sheaf I_A of A, and C is a constant depending on the function u and the generators. A motivation for this study is to estimate global bounded functions from the sheaf I_A and thus proving a ``Schwarz Lemma'' for I_A.
We prove a generalization of the second variation formula of the Robin function associated to a smooth variation of domains in C^N to the case of the c-Robin function associated to a smooth variation of domains in a complex manifold M equipped with a Hermitian metric and a smooth, nonnegative function c. Our purpose is that, with this added flexibility, we are able to give a criterion for a bounded, smoothly bounded, pseudoconvex domain D in a complex homogeneous space to be Stein.
We survey a few classes of analytic functions on the disk that have real boundary values almost everywhere on the unit circle. We explore some of their properties, various decompositions, and some connections these functions make to operator theory.
It turns out that complex geodesics in Teichmüller spaces with respect to their invariant metrics are intrinsically connected with variational calculus for univalent functions. We describe this connection and show how geometric features associated to these metrics and geodesics provide deep distortion results for various classes of functions with quasiconformal extensions and create new phenomena which do not appear in the classical geometric function theory.
We prove that the maximum of two smooth strictly plurisubharmonic functions on an almost complex manifold can be uniformly approximated by smooth strictly plurisubharmonic functions.
A complex-analytic structure within the unit disk of the complex plane is presented. It can be used to represent and analyze a large class of real functions. It is shown that any integrable real function can be obtained by means of the restriction of an analytic function to the unit circle, including functions which are non-differentiable, discontinuous or unbounded. An explicit construction of the analytic functions from the corresponding real functions is given. The complex-analytic structure can be understood as an universal regulator for analytic operations on real functions.
We extend holomorphically polyharmonic functions on a real ball to a complex set being the union of rotated balls. We solve a Dirichlet type problem for complex polyharmonic functions with the boundary condition given on the union of rotated spheres.
By proving an estimate of the sublevel sets for $(ω,m)$-subharmonic functions we obtain a Sobolev type inequality that is then used to characterize the degenerate complex Hessian equations for such functions with bounded $(p,m)$-energy.
In our previous paper, Real Polynomials with a Complex Twist [see http://archives.math.utk.edu/ICTCM/VOL28/A040/paper.pdf], we used advancements in computer graphics that allow us to easily illustrate more complete graphs of polynomial functions that are still accessible to students of many different levels. In this paper we examine the 3D graphical representations of selected transcendental functions over subsets of the complex plane for which the functions are real-valued. We visualize and find connections between circular trigonometric functions and hyperbolic functions.
We explore the Bohr inequality involving the Fourier transforms of complex valued integrable and square integrable functions defined on a second countable compact topological group. We also investigate the connection of the Bohr phenomenon with a modulus of convexity of the space of bounded linear operators defined on a complex Hilbert space.
We compute the Hodge filtration on cohomology groups of complements of complex coordinate subspace arrangements. By means of this result we construct integral representations of holomorphic functions such that kernels of these representations have singularities on complex coordinate subspace arrangements.
We show that the classical kernel and domain functions associated to an n-connected domain in the plane are all given by rational combinations of three or fewer holomorphic functions of one complex variable. We characterize those domains for which the classical functions are given by rational combinations of only two or fewer functions of one complex variable. Such domains turn out to have the property that their classical domain functions all extend to be meromorphic functions on a compact Riemann surface, and this condition will be shown to be equivalent to the condition that an Ahlfors map …
We prove the existence of plurisubharmonic functions with prescribed logarithmic singularities on complex 3-folds equipped with a nef class of positive volume. We prove the same result for rational classes on Moishezon n-folds.
A method to convert real number partitioned activation function into complex number one is provided. The method has 4em variations; 1 has potential to get holomorphic activation, 2 has potential to conserve complex angle, and the last 1 guarantees interaction between real and imaginary parts. The method has been applied to LReLU and SELU as examples. The complex number activation function is an building block of complex number ANN, which has potential to properly deal with complex number problems. But the complex activation is not well established yet. Therefore, we propose a way to extend the…
In the context of the complex-analytic structure within the unit disk centered at the origin of the complex plane, that was presented in a previous paper, we show that a certain class of non-integrable real functions can be represented within that same structure. In previous papers it was shown that essentially all integrable real functions, as well as all singular Schwartz distributions, can be represented within that same complex-analytic structure. The large class of non-integrable real functions which we analyze here can therefore be represented side by side with those other real objects, …
We describe bounded, holomorphic functions on the complex 2-disc, that admit meromorphic extension to a larger 2-disc. This solves a conjecture of Bickel, Knese, Pascoe and Sola. The key technical ingredient is an old theorem of Zariski about integrally closed ideals in 2-dimensional regular rings. v2: Remark 15 is added.
In the context of the complex-analytic structure within the open unit disk, that was established in a previous paper, here we establish a simple generalization of the Cauchy-Goursat theorem of complex analytic functions. We do this first for the case of inner analytic functions, and then generalize the result to all analytic functions. We thus show that the Cauchy-Goursat theorem holds even if the complex function has isolated singularities located on the integration contour, so long as these are all integrable ones.
