In this paper we classify noetherian hereditary abelian categories satisfying Serre duality in the sense of Bondal and Kapranov. As a consequence we obtain a classification of saturated noetherian hereditary categories.
As a side result we show that when our hereditary categories have no nonzero projectives or injectives, then the Serre duality property is equivalent to the existence of almost split sequences.
We show that every k-linear abelian Ext-finite hereditary category with Serre duality which is generated by preprojective objects is derived equivalent to the category of representations of a strongly locally finite thread quiver.
An abelian Krull-Schmidt category is said to be uniserial if the isomorphism classes of subobjects of a given indecomposable object form a linearly ordered poset. In this paper, we classify the hereditary uniserial categories with Serre duality. They fall into two types: the first type is given by the representations of the quiver A_n with linear orientation (and infinite variants thereof), the second type by tubes (and an infinite variant). These last categories give a new class of hereditary categories with Serre duality, called big tubes.
In an ongoing project to classify all hereditary abelian categories, we provide a classification of Ext-finite directed hereditary abelian categories satisfying Serre duality up to derived equivalence. In order to prove the classification, we will study the shapes of the Auslander-Reiten components extensively and use appropriate generalisations of tilting objects and coordinates, namely partial tilting sets and probing of objects by quasi-simples.
Let k be an algebraically closed field and A a k-linear hereditary category satisfying Serre duality with no infinite radicals between the preprojective objects. If A is generated by the preprojective objects, then we show that A is derived equivalent to rep_k Q for a so called strongly locally finite quiver Q. To this end, we introduce light cone distances and round trip distances on quivers which will be used to investigate sections in stable translation quivers of the form \mathbb{Z} Q.
We generalize the tilting process by Happel, Reiten and Smalø to the setting of finitely presented modules over right coherent rings. Moreover, we extend the characterization of quasi-tilted artin algebras as the almost hereditary ones to all right noetherian rings.
In this paper, we introduce the atom spectrum of an abelian category as a topological space consisting of all the equivalence classes of monoform objects. In terms of the atom spectrum, we give a classification of Serre subcategories of an arbitrary noetherian abelian category. Moreover we show that the atom spectrum of a locally noetherian Grothendieck category is homeomorphic to its Ziegler spectrum.
We study the role of the Serre functor in the theory of derived equivalences. Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category and let $(\mathcal{U}, \mathcal{V})$ be a $t$-structure on the bounded derived category $D^b \mathcal{A}$ with heart $\mathcal{H}$. We investigate when the natural embedding $\mathcal{H} \to D^b \mathcal{A}$ can be extended to a triangle equivalence $D^b \mathcal{H} \to D^b \mathcal{A}$. Our focus of study is the case where $\mathcal{A}$ is the category of finite-dimensional modules over a finite-dimensional hereditary algebra. In this case, we prove that such an extension exi…
We introduce thread quivers as an (infinite) generalization of quivers, and show that every k-linear (k algebraically closed) hereditary category with Serre duality and enough projectives is equivalent to the category of finitely presented representations of a thread quiver. In this way, we obtain an explicit construction of a new class of hereditary categories with Serre duality.
Let C be a connected noetherian hereditary abelian Ext-finite category with Serre functor over an algebraically closed field k, with finite dimensional homomorphism and extension spaces. Using the classification of such categories from math.RT/9911242, we prove that if C has some object of infinite length, then the Grothendieck group of C is finitely generated if and only if C has a tilting object.
Derived decompositions of abelian categories are introduced in internal terms of abelian subcategories to construct semi-orthogonal decompositions (or Bousfield localizations, or hereditary torsion pairs) in various derived categories of abelian categories. We give a sufficient condition for arbitrary abelian categories to have such derived decompositions and show that it is also necessary for abelian categories with enough projectives and injectives. For bounded derived categories, we describe which semi-orthogonal decompositions are determined by derived decompositions. The necessary and suf…
We generalise notions of Gorenstein homological algebra for rings to the context of arbitrary abelian categories. The results are strongest for module categories of rngs with enough idempotents. We also reformulate the notion of Frobenius extensions of noetherian rings into a setting which allows for direct generalisation to arbitrary abelian categories. The abstract theory is then applied to the BGG category O for Lie superalgebras, which can now be seen as a "Frobenius extension" of the corresponding category for the underlying Lie algebra and is therefore "Gorenstein". In particular we obta…
