Given a countably generated rigid C^*-tensor category C, we construct a planar algebra P whose category of projections Pro is equivalent to C. From P, we use methods of Guionnet-Jones-Shlyakhtenko-Walker to construct a rigid C^*-tensor category Bim whose objects are bifinite bimodules over an interpolated free group factor, and we show Bim is equivalent to Pro. We use these constructions to show C is equivalent to a category of bifinite bimodules over L(F_infty).

We prove that if C is a tensor C*-category in a certain class, then there exists an uncountable family of pairwise non stably isomorphic II_1 factors (M_i) such that the bimodule category of M_i is equivalent to C for all i. In particular, we prove that every finite tensor C*-category is the bimodule category of a II_1 factor. As an application we prove the existence of a II_1 factor for which the set of indices of finite index irreducible subfactors is {1, \frac{5 + \sqrt{13}}{2}, 12 + 3\sqrt{13}, 4 + \sqrt{13}, \frac{11 + 3\sqrt{13}}{2}, \frac{13 + 3\sqrt{13}}{2}, \frac{19 + 5\sqrt{13}}{2}, …
We discuss the structure of the Motzkin algebra $M_k(D)$ by introducing a sequence of idempotents and the basic construction. We show that $\cup_{k\geq 1}M_k(D)$ admits a factor trace if and only if $D\in \{2\cos(π/n)+1|n\geq 3\}\cup [3,\infty)$ and higher commutants of these factors depend on $D$. Then a family of irreducible bimodules over the factors are constructed. A tensor category with $A_n$ fusion rule is obtained from these bimodules.

In this article, we construct a 2-shaded rigid ${\rm C}^*$ multitensor category with canonical unitary dual functor directly from a standard $λ$-lattice. We use the notions of traceless Markov towers and lattices to define the notion of module and bimodule over standard $λ$-lattice(s), and we explicitly construct the associated module category and bimodule category over the corresponding 2-shaded rigid ${\rm C}^*$ multitensor category. As an example, we compute the modules and bimodules for Temperley-Lieb-Jones standard $λ$-lattices in terms of traceless Markov towers and lattices. Translating…
Categories of W*-bimodules are shown in an explicit and algebraic way to constitute an involutive W*-bicategory.
Given a II$_1$-subfactor $A\subset B$ of arbitrary index, we show that the rectangular GICAR category, also called the rectangular planar rook category, faithfully embeds as $A-A$ bimodule maps among the bimodules $\bigotimes_A^n L^2(B)$. As a corollary, we get a lower bound on the dimension of the centralizer algebras $A_0'\cap A_{2n}$ for infinite index subfactors, and we also get that $A_0'\cap A_{2n}$ is nonabelian for $n\geq 2$, where $(A_n)_{n\geq 0}$ is the Jones tower for $A_0=A\subset B=A_1$. We also show that the annular GICAR/planar rook category acts as maps amongst the $A$-central…
The bicategory of normal functors between W*-categories is monoidally equivalent to the bicategory of W*-bimodules.
Starting from a (small) rigid C$^*$-tensor category $\mathscr{C}$ with simple unit, we construct von Neumann algebras associated to each of its objects. These algebras are factors and can be either semifinite (of type II$_1$ or II$_\infty$, depending on whether the spectrum of the category is finite or infinite) or they can be of type III$_λ$, $λ\in (0,1]$. The choice of type is tuned by the choice of Tomita structure (defined in the paper) on certain bimodules we use in the construction. Moreover, if the spectrum is infinite we realize the whole tensor category directly as endomorphisms of th…
We show that if $(X.A)$ and $(Y,B)$ are two isomorphic Hilbert pro-$C^{\ast} $-bimodules, then the crossed product $A\times_{X}\mathbb{Z}$ of $A$ by $X$ and the crossed product $B\times_{Y}\mathbb{Z}$ of $B$ by $Y$ are isomorphic as pro-$C^{\ast}$-algebras. We also prove a property of "associativity" between " $\otimes_{\min}$" and "$\times_{X}$" $\ $as well as " $\otimes_{\max}$" and "$\times_{X}$". As an application of these results we show that the crossed product of a nuclear pro-$C^{\ast}$ -algebra $A$ by a full Hilbert pro-$C^{\ast}$-bimodule $X$ is a nuclear pro-$C^{\ast}$-algebra.

The injective tensor product of normal representable bimodules over von Neumann algebras is shown to be normal. The usual Banach module projective tensor product of central representable bimodules over an Abelian C$^*$-algebra is shown to be representable. A normal version of the projective tensor product is introduced for central normal bimodules.
Motivated by the relation between the Drinfeld double and central property (T) for quantum groups, given a rigid C*-tensor category C and a unitary half-braiding on an ind-object, we construct a *-representation of the fusion algebra of C. This allows us to present an alternative approach to recent results of Popa and Vaes, who defined C*-algebras of monoidal categories and introduced property (T) for them. As an example we analyze categories C of Hilbert bimodules over a II$_1$-factor. We show that in this case the Drinfeld center is monoidally equivalent to a category of Hilbert bimodules ov…

We show that Kraus' property $S_σ$ is preserved under taking weak* closed sums with masa-bimodules of finite width, and establish an intersection formula for weak* closed spans of tensor products, one of whose terms is a masa-bimodule of finite width. We initiate the study of the question of when operator synthesis is preserved under the formation of products and prove that the union of finitely many sets of the form $κ\times λ$, where $κ$ is a set of finite width, while $λ$ is operator synthetic, is, under a necessary restriction on the sets $λ$, again operator synthetic. We show that propert…

The article contains a detailed description of the connection between finite depth inclusions of $II_1$-subfactors and finite $C^*$-tensor categories (i.e. $C^*$-tensor categories with dimension function for which the number of equivalence classes of irreducible objects is finite). The $(N,N)$-bimodules belonging to a $II_1$-subfactor $N\subset M$ with finite Jones index form a $C^*$-tensor category with dimension function. Conversely, taking an object of a finite $C^*$-tensor category C we construct a subfactor $A\subset R$ of the hyperfinite $II_1$-factor R with finite index and finite depth…
We construct the crossed product of a C(X)-algebra by an endomorphism, in such a way that it becomes induced by a Hilbert C(X)-bimodule. Furthermore we introduce the notion of C(X)-category, and discuss relationships with crossed products and duality for compact groups.
The representation theory of a conformal net is a unitary modular tensor category. It is captured by the bimodule category of the Jones-Wassermann subfactor. In this paper, we construct multi-interval Jones-Wassermann subfactors for unitary modular tensor categories. We prove that these subfactors are self-dual. It generalizes and categorifies the self-duality of finite abelian groups and we call it modular self-duality.
C*-endomorphisms arising from superselection structures with non-trivial centre define a 'rank' and a 'first Chern class'. Crossed products by such endomorphisms involve the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra of a vector bundle having the above-mentioned rank and first Chern class, and can be used to construct a duality for abstract (nonsymmetric) tensor categories vs. group bundles acting on (nonsymmetric) Hilbert bimodules. Existence and unicity of the dual object (i.e., the 'gauge' group bundle) are not ensured: we give a description of this phenomenon in terms of a certain moduli space associated with …
For an operator bimodule $X$ over von Neumann algebras $A\subseteq\bh$ and $B\subseteq\bk$, the space of all completely bounded $A,B$-bimodule maps from $X$ into $\bkh$, is the bimodule dual of $X$. Basic duality theory is developed with a particular attention to the Haagerup tensor product over von Neumann algebras. To $X$ a normal operator bimodule $\nor{X}$ is associated so that completely bounded $A,B$-bimodule maps from $X$ into normal operator bimodules factorize uniquely through $\nor{X}$. A construction of $\nor{X}$ in terms of biduals of $X$, $A$ and $B$ is presented. Various operator…

We prove that the tensor algebra of a C*-correspondence $X$ is Dirichlet if and only if $X$ is a Hilbert bimodule. As a consequence, we point out and fix an error appearing in the proof of a famous result of Duncan. Secondly we answer a question raised by Davidson and Katsoulis concerning tensor algebras and semi-Dirichlet algebras, by giving an example of a Dirichlet algebra that cannot be described as the tensor algebra of any C*-correspondence. Furthermore we show that the adding tail technique, as extended by the author and Katsoulis, applies in a unique way to preserve the class of Hilber…
Symplectic reduction is reinterpreted as the composition of arrows in the category of integrable Poisson manifolds, whose arrows are isomorphism classes of dual pairs, with symplectic groupoids as units. Morita equivalence of Poisson manifolds amounts to isomorphism of objects in this category. This description paves the way for the quantization of the classical reduction procedure, which is based on the formal analogy between dual pairs of Poisson manifolds and Hilbert bimodules over C*-algebras, as well as with correspondences between von Neumann algebras. Further analogies are drawn with ca…
