We classify the finite dimensional indecomposable sl(m/n)-modules with at least a typical or singly atypical primitive weight. We do this classification not only for weight modules, but also for generalized weight modules. We obtain that such a generalized weight module is simply a module obtained by ``linking'' sub-quotient modules of generalized Kac-modules. By applying our results to sl(m/1), we have in fact completely classified all finite dimensional sl(m/1)-modules.
Atypicality is a fundamental combinatorial invariant for simple supermodules of a basic Lie superalgebra. Boe, Nakano, and the author gave a conjectural geometric interpretation of atypicality via support varieties. Inspired by low dimensional topology, Geer, Patureau-Mirand, and the author gave a generalization of the Kac-Wakimoto atypicality conjecture. We prove both of these conjectures for the Lie superalgebra osp(m|2n).
We determine the Verma multiplicities and the characters of projective modules for atypical blocks in the BGG Category O for the general linear Lie superalgebras $\frak{gl}(2|2)$ and $\frak{gl}(3|1)$. We then explicitly determine the composition factor multiplcities of Verma modules in the atypicality 2 block of $\frak{gl}(2|2)$.
We prove that an integral block of the category $\mathcal O$ of the periplectic Lie superalgebra contains a non-semisimple Jantzen middle if and only if it contains a simple module of atypical highest weight. As a consequence, every atypical integral block of $\mathcal O$ does not admit a Kazhdan-Lusztig theory in the sense of Cline, Parshall and Scott.
We prove the Kac-Wakimoto conjecture for the periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}(n)$, stating that any simple module lying in a block of non-maximal atypicality has superdimension zero.
We study three related homological properties of modules in the BGG category O for basic classical Lie superalgebras, with specific focus on the general linear superalgebra. These are the projective dimension, associated variety and complexity. We demonstrate connections between projective dimension and singularity of modules and blocks. Similarly we investigate the connection between complexity and atypicality. This creates concrete tools to describe singularity and atypicality as homological, and hence categorical, properties of a block. However, we also demonstrate how two integral blocks i…
Boe, Kujawa and Nakano recently investigated relative cohomology for classical Lie superalgebras and developed a theory of support varieties. The dimensions of these support varieties give a geometric interpretation of the combinatorial notions of defect and atypicality due to Kac, Wakimoto, and Serganova. In this paper we calculate the cohomology ring of the Cartan type Lie superalgebra W(n) relative to the degree zero component W(n)_{0} and show that this ring is a finitely generated polynomial ring. This allows one to define support varieties for finite dimensional W(n)-supermodules which a…
In \cite{BKN} the authors initiated a study of the representation theory of classical Lie superalgebras via a cohomological approach. Detecting subalgebras were constructed and a theory of support varieties was developed. The dimension of a detecting subalgebra coincides with the defect of the Lie superalgebra and the dimension of the support variety for a simple supermodule was conjectured to equal the atypicality of the supermodule. In this paper the authors compute the support varieties for Kac supermodules for Type I Lie superalgebras and the simple supermodules for $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. T…
The category of representations with a strongly typical central character of a basic classical Lie superalgebra is proven to be equivalent to the category of representations of its even part corresponding to an appropriate central character. For a Lie superalgebra $osp(1,2l)$ the category of representations with a "generic" weakly atypical central character is described.
We determine the Verma multiplicities of standard filtrations of projective modules for integral atypical blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ for the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{osp}(3|4)$ by way of translation functors. We then explicitly determine the composition factor multiplicities of Verma modules using BGG reciprocity.
We develop a reduction procedure which provides an equivalence from an arbitrary block of the BGG category for the queer Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ to a "$\mathbb{Z}\pm s$-weights" ($s\in \mathbb{C}$) block of a BGG category for finite direct sum of queer Lie superalgebras. We give descriptions of blocks. We also establish equivalences between certain maximal parabolic subcategories for $\mathfrak{q}(n)$ and blocks of atypicality-one of the category of finite-dimensional modules for $\mathfrak{gl}(\ell|n-\ell)$.
We establish a closed formula for a singular vector of weight $λ-β$ in the Verma module of highest weight $λ$ for Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$ when $λ$ is atypical with respect to an odd positive root $β$. It is further shown that this vector is unique up to a scalar multiple, and it descends to a singular vector, again unique up to a scalar multiple, in the corresponding Kac module when both $λ$ and $λ-β$ are dominant integral.
The generalized Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the finite dimensional irreducible representations of the general linear superalgebra are computed explicitly. Using the result we establish a one to one correspondence between the set of composition factors of an arbitrary $r$-fold atypical $gl_{m|n}$-Kac-module and the set of composition factors of some $r$-fold atypical $gl_{r|r}$-Kac-module. The result of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials is also applied to prove a conjectural character formula put forward by van der Jeugt et al in the late 80s. We simplify this character formula to cast it into th…
We define the associated variety $ X_{M} $ of a module $ M $ over a finite-dimensional superalgebra $ {\mathfrak g} $, and show how to extract information about $ M $ from these geometric data. $ X_{M} $ is a subvariety of the cone $ X $ of self-commuting odd elements. For finite-dimensional $ M $, $ X_{M} $ is invariant under the action of the underlying Lie group $ G_{0} $. For simple superalgebra with invariant symmetric form, $ X $ has finitely many $ G_{0} $-orbits; we associate a number (rank) to each such orbit. One can also associate a number (degree of atypicality) to an irreducible f…
Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}\oplus \mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}}$ be a classical Lie superalgebra and $\mathcal{F}$ be the category of finite dimensional $\mathfrak{g}$-supermodules which are completely reducible over the reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$. In an earlier paper the authors demonstrated that for any module $M$ in $\mathcal{F}$ the rate of growth of the minimal projective resolution (i.e., the complexity of $M$) is bounded by the dimension of $\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}}$. In this paper we compute the complexity of the simple modules and the Kac modules for the Lie su…
To study finite-dimensional modules of the Lie superalgebras, Kac introduced the Kac-modules and divided them into typical or atypical modules according as they are simple or not. For Lambda being atypical, Hughes et al have an algorithm to determine all the composition factors of a Kac-module; they conjectured that there exists a bijection between the composition factors of a Kac-module and the so-called permissible codes. The aim of this paper is to prove this conjecture. We give a partial proof here, i.e., to any unlinked code, by constructing explicitly the primitive vector, we prove that …
We show that the normalized supercharacters of principal admissible modules, associated to each integrable atypical module over the affine Lie superalgebra $\widehat{sl}_{2|1}$ can be modified, using Zwegers' real analytic corrections, to form an $SL_2(\mathbf{Z})$-invariant family of functions. Using a variation of Zwegers' correction, we obtain a similar result for $\widehat{osp}_{3|2}$. Applying the quantum Hamiltonian reduction, this leads to new families of positive energy modules over the $N=2$ (resp. $N=3$) superconformal algebras with central charge $c=3 (1-\frac{2m+2}{M})$, where $m \…
In this paper we study extensions between finite-dimensional simple modules over classical Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n), \mathfrak{osp}(M|2n)$ and $\mathfrak{q}_m$. We consider a simplified version of the extension graph which is produced from the $Ext^1$-graph by identifying representations obtained by parity change and removal of the loops. We give a necessary condition for a pair of vertices to be connected and show that this condition is sufficient in most of the cases. This condition implies that the image of a finite-dimensional simple module under the Duflo-Serganova functor ha…
A weight module of a basic Lie superalgebra is called finite if all of its weight spaces are finite dimensional, and it is called bounded if there is a uniform bound on the dimension of a weight space. The minimum bound is called the degree of the module. For the basic Lie superalgebra D(2,1,a), we prove that every simple weight module is bounded and has degree less than or equal to 8. This bound is attained by a cuspidal module if and only if it is "typical". Atypical cuspidal modules have degree less than or equal to 6 and greater than or equal to 2.
In the paper we consider the problem of computation of characters of relatively integrable irreducible highest weight modules $L$ over finite-dimensional basic Lie superalgebras and over affine Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{g}$. The problems consists of two parts. First, it is the reduction of the problem to the $\overline{\mathfrak{g}}$-module $F(L)$, where $\overline{\mathfrak{g}}$ is the associated to $L$ integral Lie superalgebra and $F(L)$ is an integrable irreducible highest weight $\overline{\mathfrak{g}}$-module. Second, it is the computation of characters of integrable highest weight m…
A Jantzen type filtration for generalised Varma modules of Lie superalgebras is introduced. In the case of type I Lie superalgebras, it is shown that the generalised Jantzen filtration for any Kac module is the unique Loewy filtration, and the decomposition numbers of the layers of the filtration are determined by the coefficients of inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. Furthermore, the length of the Jantzen filtration for any Kac module is determined explicitly in terms of the degree of atypicality of the highest weight. These results are applied to obtain a detailed description of the submod…
In the first part of the paper we give the denominator identity for all simple finite-dimensional Lie super algebras $\frak g\/$ with a non-degenerate invariant bilinear form. We give also a character and (super) dimension formulas for all finite-dimensional irreducible $\frak g\/$-modules of atypicality $\leq 1\/$ . In the second part of the paper we give the denominator identity for the affine superalgebras $\hat{\frak g}\/$ associated to $\frak g\/$. Specializations of this identity give almost all old and many new formulas for the number of representations of an integer as sums of squares …
The multiplicities a_{lambda,mu} of simple modules L(mu) in the composition series of Kac modules V(lambda) for the Lie superalgebra gl(m/n) were described by Serganova, leading to her solution of the character problem for gl(m/n). In Serganova's algorithm all mu with nonzero a_{lambda,mu} are determined for a given lambda; this algorithm turns out to be rather complicated. In this Letter a simple rule is conjectured to find all nonzero a_{lambda,mu} for any given weight mu. In particular, we claim that for an r-fold atypical weight mu there are 2^r distinct weights lambda such that a_{lambda,…
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a classical Lie superalgebra of type I or a Cartan-type Lie superalgebra {\bf W}$(n)$. We study weight $\mathfrak g$-modules using a method inspired by Mathieu's classification of the simple weight modules with finite weight multiplicities over reductive Lie algebras, \cite{M}. Our approach is based on the fact that every simple weight $\mathfrak g$-module with finite weight multiplicities is obtained via a composition of a twist and localization from a highest weight module. This allows us to transfer many results for category ${\cal O}$ modules to the category of weight …
We study inclusions between primitive ideals in the universal enveloping algebra of general linear superalgebras. For classical Lie superalgebras, any primitive ideal is the annihilator of a simple highest weight module. It therefore suffices to study the quasi-order on highest weights determined by the relation of inclusion between primitive ideals. For the specific case of reductive Lie algebras, this quasi-order is essentially the left Kazhdan-Lusztig quasi-order. For Lie superalgebras, the classification is unknown in general, safe from some low dimensional specific cases. We derive an alt…
Representations of the non-semisimple superalgebra $gl(2|2)$ in the standard basis are investigated by means of the vector coherent state method and boson-fermion realization. All finite-dimensional irreducible typical and atypical representations and lowest weight (indecomposable) Kac modules of $gl(2|2)$ are constructed explicitly through the explicit construction of all $gl(2)\oplus gl(2)$ particle states (multiplets) in terms of boson and fermion creation operators in the super-Fock space. This gives a unified and complete treatment of finite-dimensional representations of $gl(2|2)$ in exp…
