We prove that the automorphism group of a Cuntz algebra of finite order acts transitively on the set of pure states which are invariant under some gauge actions (which may depend on the states). The question of whether any pure state is invariant under some gauge action is left open, but for the senigroups of unital endomorphisms stronger transitivity properties can be established witout knowing the answer of this question.
We continue our investigation, from \cite{dh}, of the ring-theoretic infiniteness properties of ultrapowers of Banach algebras, studying in this paper the notion of being purely infinite. It is well known that a $C^*$-algebra is purely infinite if and only if any of its ultrapowers are. We find examples of Banach algebras, as algebras of operators on Banach spaces, which do have purely infinite ultrapowers. Our main contribution is the construction of a "Cuntz-like" Banach $*$-algebra which is purely infinite, but whose ultrapowers are not even simple, and hence not purely infinite. This algeb…
Let ${\cal O}_n$ denote the Cuntz algebra for $n\geq 2$. We introduce an embedding $f$ of ${\cal O}_m$ into ${\cal O}_n$ arising from a geometric progression of Cuntz generaters of ${\cal O}_n$. By identifying ${\cal O}_m$ with $f({\cal O}_m)$, we extend Cuntz states on ${\cal O}_m$ to ${\cal O}_n$. We show (i) a necessary and sufficient condition of the uniqueness of the extension, (ii) the complete classification of all such extensions up to unitary equivalence of their GNS representations, and (iii) the decomposition formula of a mixing state into a convex hull of pure states. The complete …
We augment Restorff's classification of purely infinite Cuntz-Krieger algebras by describing the range of his invariant on purely infinite Cuntz-Krieger algebras. We also describe its range on purely infinite graph C*-algebras with finitely many ideals, and provide 'unital' range results for purely infinite Cuntz-Krieger algebras and unital purely infinite graph C*-algebras.
In 2006, Restorff completed the classification of all Cuntz-Krieger algebras with finitely many ideals (i.e., those that are purely infinite) up to stable isomorphism. He left open the questions concerning strong classification up to stable isomorphism and unital classification. In this paper, we address both questions. We show that any isomorphism between the reduced filtered K-theory of two Cuntz-Krieger algebras with finitely many ideals lifts to a *-isomorphism between the stabilized Cuntz-Krieger algebras. As a result, we also obtain strong unital classification.
Let ${\cal O}_n$ denote the Cuntz algebra for $2\leq n<\infty$. With respect to a homogeneous embedding of ${\cal O}_{n^m}$ into ${\cal O}_n$, an extension of a Cuntz state on ${\cal O}_{n^m}$ to ${\cal O}_n$ is called a sub-Cuntz state, which was introduced by Bratteli and Jorgensen. We show (i) a necessary and sufficient condition of the uniqueness of the extension, (ii) the complete classification of pure sub-Cuntz states up to unitary equivalence of their GNS representations, and (iii) the decomposition formula of a mixing sub-Cuntz state into a convex hull of pure sub-Cuntz states. Invari…
We investigate crossed products of Cuntz algebras by quasi-free actions of abelian groups. We prove that our algebras are AF-embeddable when actions satisfy a certain condition. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition that our algebras become simple and purely infinite, and consequently our algebras are either purely infinite or AF-embeddable when they are simple.
To a representation of $Ø_N$ (the Cuntz algebra with $N$ generators) we associate a projection valued measure and we study the case when this measure has atoms. The main technical tool are the spaces invariant for all the operators $S_i^*$. We classify the purely atomic representations and find when such representations are permutative. Applications include: wavelet representations, representations generated by finitely correlated states, representation associated to Hadamard triples (or fractal spectral measures) and representations associated to generalized Walsh bases.
It is shown that certain quasi-free flows on the Cuntz algebra $O_\infty$ have the Rohlin property and therefore are cocycle-conjugate with each other. This, in particular, shows that any unital separable nuclear purely infinite simple C*-algebra has a Rohlin flow.
We characterize the state space of a Toeplitz-Cuntz algebra TO_n in terms of positive operator matrices $Ω$ on Fock space which satisfy sl(Ω) \le Ω, where sl(Ω) is the operator matrix obtained from Ωby taking the trace in the last variable. Essential states correspond to those matrices Ωwhich are slice-invariant. As an application we show that a pure essential product state of the fixed-point algebra for the action of the gauge group has precisely a circle of pure extensions to TO_n.
Let ${\cal O}_{{\cal H}^{A,B}_κ}$ be the $C^*$-algebra associated with the Hilbert $C^*$-quad module arising from commuting matrices $A,B$ with entries in $\{0,1\}$. We will show that if the associated tiling space $X_{A,B}^κ$ is transitive, the $C^*$-algebra ${\cal O}_{{\cal H}^{A,B}_κ}$ is simple and purely infinite. In particulr, for two positive integers $N,M$, the $K$-groups of the simple purely infinite $C^*$-algebra ${\cal O}_{{\cal H}^{[N],[M]}_κ}$ are computed by using the Euclidean algorithm.
We investigate $C^*$-algebras associated with row-finite topological higher-rank graphs with no source, which are based on product system $C^*$-algebras. We prove the Cuntz-Krieger uniqueness theorem, and provide the condition of simplicity and purely infiniteness of our algebras. We give examples of non-discrete topological higher-rank graphs whose $C^*$-algebras contain Cuntz's $ax+b$-semigroup $C^*$-algebra over $\mathbb{N}$.
The note presents a further study of the class of Cuntz--Krieger type algebras. A necessary and sufficient condition is identified that ensures that the algebra is purely infinite, the ideal structure is studied, % and applied to semigraph algebras, and nuclearity is proved by presenting the algebra as a crossed product of an AF-algebra by an abelian group. The results are applied to examples of Cuntz--Krieger type algebras, such as higher rank semigraph $C^*$-algebras and higher rank Exel-Laca algebras.
Let G be a finite group, let A be an infinite-dimensional stably finite simple unital C*-algebra, and let α\colon G \to Aut (A) be an action of G on A which has the weak tracial Rokhlin property. Let A^α be the fixed point algebra. Then the radius of comparison satisfies rc (A^α) \leq rc (A) and rc ( C* (G, A, α) ) \leq ( 1 / card (G) ) rc (A). The inclusion of A^α in A induces an isomorphism from the purely positive part of the Cuntz semigroup Cu (A^α) to the fixed points of the purely positive part of Cu (A), and the purely positive part of Cu ( C* (G, A, α) ) is isomorphic to this semigroup…
Cuntz and Li have defined a C*-algebra associated to any integral domain, using generators and relations, and proved that it is simple and purely infinite and that it is stably isomorphic to a crossed product of a commutative C*-algebra. We give an approach to a class of C*-algebras containing those studied by Cuntz and Li, using the general theory of C*-dynamical systems associated to certain semidirect product groups. Even for the special case of the Cuntz-Li algebras, our development is new.
Pure infiniteness (in sense of E.Kirchberg and M.Rørdam) is considered for C*-algebras arising from singly generated dynamical systems. In particular, Cuntz-Krieger algebras and their generalizations, i.e., graph-algebras and O_A of an infinite matrix A, admit characterizations of pure infiniteness. As a consequence, these generalized Cuntz-Krieger algebras are traceless if and only if they are purely infinite. Also, a characterization of AF-algebras among these C*-algebras is given. In the case of graph-algebras of locally finite graphs, characterizations of stability are obtained.
To each discrete product system E of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces we associate a C*-algebra O_E. When E is the n-dimensional product system over N, O_E is the Cuntz algebra O_n, and the irrational rotation algebras appear as O_E for certain one-dimensional product systems over N^2. We give conditions which ensure that O_E is simple, purely infinite, and nuclear. Our main examples are the lexicographic product systems, for which we obtain slightly stronger results.
We prove that the pure state space is homogeneous under the action of the group of asymptotically inner automorphisms for all the separable simple nuclear C*-algebras. If simplicity is not assumed for the C*-algebras, the set of pure states whose GNS representations are faithful is homogeneous for the above action.
In this paper, we show that for unital, separable $C^*$-algebras of stable rank one and real rank zero, the unitary Cuntz semigroup functor and the functor ${\rm K}_*$ are naturallly equivalent. Then we introduce a refinement of the unitary Cuntz semigroup, say the total Cuntz semigroup, which is a new invariant for separable $C^*$-algebras of stable rank one, is a well-defined continuous functor from the category of $C^*$-algebras of stable rank one to the category ${\rm\underline{ Cu}}$. We prove that this new functor and the functor ${\rm \underline{K}}$ are naturallly equivalent for unital…
To an $r$-dimensional subshift of finite type satisfying certain special properties we associate a $C^*$-algebra $\cA$. This algebra is a higher rank version of a Cuntz-Krieger algebra. In particular, it is simple, purely infinite and nuclear. We study an example: if $\G$ is a group acting freely on the vertices of an $\wt A_2$ building, with finitely many orbits, and if $Ω$ is the boundary of that building, then $C(\Om)\rtimes \G$ is the algebra associated to a certain two dimensional subshift.
We prove that the pure state space is homogeneous under the action of the automorphism group (or the subgroup of asymptotically inner automorphisms) for all the separable simple C*-algebras. The first result of this kind was shown by Powers for the UHF algebras some 30 years ago.
The usual crossed product construction which associates to the homeomorphism $T$ of the locally compact space $X$ the C$^*$-algebra $C^*(X,T)$ is extended to the case of a partial local homeomorphism $T$. For example, the Cuntz-Krieger algebras are the C$^*$-algebras of the one-sided Markov shifts. The generalizations of the Cuntz-Krieger algebras (graph algebras, algebras $O_A$ where $A$ is an infinite matrix) which have been introduced recently can also be described as C$^*$-algebras of Markov chains with countably many states. This is useful to obtain such properties of these algebras as nu…
Let $A$ be a separable unital C*-algebra and let $π: A \ra \Lc(\Hf)$ be a faithful representation of $A$ on a separable Hilbert space $\Hf$ such that $π(A) \cap \Kc(\Hf) = \{0 \}$. We show that $\Oc_E$, the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra associated to the Hilbert $A$-bimodule $E = \Hf \ot_{\C} A$, is simple and purely infinite. If $A$ is nuclear and belongs to the bootstrap class to which the UCT applies, then the same applies to $\Oc_E$. Hence by the Kirchberg-Phillips Theorem the isomorphism class of $\Oc_E$ only depends on the $K$-theory of $A$ and the class of the unit.
We prove that if two nonnegative matrices are strong shift equivalent, the associated stable Cuntz-Krieger algebras with generalized gauge actions are conjugate. The proof is done by a purely functional analytic method and based on constructing imprimitivity bimodule from bipartite directed graphs through strong shift equivalent matrices, so that we may clarify K-theoretic behavior of the stable conjugacy between the associated stable Cuntz-Krieger algebras. We also examine our machinery for the matrices obtained by state splitting graphs, so that topological conjugacy of the topological Marko…
We define a Riesz type interpolation property for the Cuntz semigroup of a $C^*$-algebra and prove it is satisfied by the Cuntz semigroup of every $C^*$-algebra with the ideal property. Related to this, we obtain two characterizations of the ideal property in terms of the Cuntz semigroup of the $C^*$-algebra. Some additional characterizations are proved in the special case of the stable, purely infinite $C^*$-algebras, and two of them are expressed in language of the Cuntz semigroup. We introduce a notion of comparison of positive elements for every unital $C^*$-algebra that has (normalized) q…
In a pure C*-algebra (i.e., one having suitable regularity properties in its Cuntz semigroup), any element on which all bounded traces vanish is a sum of 7 commutators.
We show that filtered K-theory is equivalent to a substantially smaller invariant for all real-rank-zero C*-algebras with certain primitive ideal spaces -- including the infinitely many so-called accordion spaces for which filtered K-theory is known to be a complete invariant. As a consequence, we give a characterization of purely infinite Cuntz-Krieger algebras whose primitive ideal space is an accordion space.
Given a locally compact group $G$ and a unitary representation $ρ:G\to U({\mathcal H})$ on a Hilbert space ${\mathcal H}$, we construct a $C^*$-correspondence ${\mathcal E}(ρ)={\mathcal H}\otimes_{\mathbb C} C^*(G)$ over $C^*(G)$ and study the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra ${\mathcal O}_{{\mathcal E}(ρ)}$. We prove that for $G$ compact, ${\mathcal O}_{{\mathcal E}(ρ)}$ is strong Morita equivalent to a graph $C^*$-algebra. If $λ$ is the left regular representation of an infinite, discrete and amenable group $G$, we show that ${\mathcal O}_{{\mathcal E}(λ)}$ is simple and purely infinite, with the same …
We prove that the natural homomorphism from Kirchberg's ideal-related KK-theory, KKE(e, e'), with one specified ideal, into Hom_Λ (\underline{K}_{E} (e), \underline{K}_{E} (e')) is an isomorphism for all extensions e and e' of separable, nuclear C*-algebras in the bootstrap category N with the K-groups of the associated cyclic six term exact sequence being finitely generated, having zero exponential map and with the K_{1}-groups of the quotients being free abelian groups. This class includes all Cuntz-Krieger algebras with exactly one non-trivial ideal. Combining our results with the results o…
Given an arbitrary infinite 0--1 matrix A having no identically zero rows, we define an algebra OA as the universal C*-algebra generated by partial isometries subject to conditions that generalize, to the infinite case, those introduced by Cuntz and Krieger for finite matrices. We realize OA as the crossed product algebra for a partial dynamical system and, based on this description, we extend to the infinite case some of the main results known to hold in the finite case, namely the uniqueness theorem, the classification of ideals, and the simplicity criteria. OA is always nuclear and we obtai…
We study representations of the Cuntz algebras O_d and their associated decompositions. In the case that these representations are irreducible, their restrictions to the gauge-invariant subalgebra UHF_d have an interesting cyclic structure. If S_i, 1 \leq i \leq d, are representatives of the Cuntz relations on a Hilbert space H, special attention is given to the subspaces which are invariant under S_i^*. The applications include wavelet multiresolutions corresponding to wavelets of compact support (to appear in the later paper \cite{BEJ97}), and finitely correlated states on one-dimensional qu…
Given an action of a Compact Quantum Group (CQG) on a finite dimensional Hilbert space, we can construct an action on the associated Cuntz algebra. We study the fixed point algebra of this action, using Kirchberg classification results. Under certain conditions, we prove that the fixed point algebra is purely infinite and nuclear. We further identify it as a Pimsner algebra, compute its $K$-theory and prove a "stability property": the fixed points only depend on the CQG via its fusion rules. We apply the theory to $SU_q(N)$ and illustrate by explicit computations for $SU_q(2)$ and $SU_q(3)$. T…
Let $\mathcal{G}$ be an ultragraph and let $C^*(\mathcal{G})$ be the associated $C^*$-algebra introduced by Mark Tomforde. For any gauge invariant ideal $I_{(H,B)}$ of $C^*(\mathcal{G})$, we approach the quotient $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\mathcal{G})/I_{(H,B)}$ by the $C^*$-algebra of finite graphs and prove versions of gauge invariant and Cuntz-Krieger uniqueness theorems for it. We then describe primitive gauge invariant ideals and determine purely infinite ultragraph $C^*$-algebras (in the sense of Kirchberg-R$ø$rdam) via Fell bundles.
We present a class of subshifts $Z_N, N = 1,2,...$ whose associated $C^*$-algebras ${\cal O}_{Z_N}$ are simple, purely infinite and not stably isomorphic to any Cuntz-Krieger algebra nor to Cuntz algebra. The class of the subshifts is the first examples whose associated $C^*$-algebras are not stably isomorphic to any Cuntz-Krieger algebra nor to Cuntz algebra. The subshifts $Z_N$ are coded systems whose languages are context free. We compute the topological entropy for the subshifts and show that KMS-state for gauge action on the associated $C^*$-algebra ${\cal O}_{Z_N}$ exists if and only if …
In this article I study a number of topological and algebraic dimension type properties of simple C*-algebras and their interplay. In particular, a simple C*-algebra is defined to be (tracially) (m,\bar{m})-pure, if it has (strong tracial) m-comparison and is (tracially) \bar{m}-almost divisible. These notions are related to each other, and to nuclear dimension. The main result says that if a separable, simple, nonelementary, unital C*-algebra A with locally finite nuclear dimension is (m,\bar{m})-pure, then it absorbs the Jiang-Su algebra Z tensorially. It follows that A is Z-stable if and on…
We investigate the interplay of the following regularity properties for non-simple C*-algebras: finite nuclear dimension, Z-stability, and algebraic regularity in the Cuntz semigroup. We show that finite nuclear dimension implies algebraic regularity in the Cuntz semigroup, provided that known type I obstructions are avoided. We demonstrate how finite nuclear dimension can be used to study the structure of the central sequence algebra, by factorizing the identity map on the central sequence algebra, in a manner resembling the factorization arising in the definition of nuclear dimension. Result…
We study relations between $(H,β)$--KMS states on Cuntz--Krieger algebras and the dual of the Perron--Frobenius operator $\mathcal{L}_{-βH}^{*}$. Generalising the well--studied purely hyperbolic situation, we obtain under mild conditions that for an expansive dynamical system there is a one--one correspondence between $(H,β)$--KMS states and eigenmeasures of $\mathcal{L}_{-βH}^{*}$ for the eigenvalue 1. We then consider representations of Cuntz--Krieger algebras which are induced by Markov fibred systems, and show that if the associated incidence matrix is irreducible then these are $\ast$--is…
We prove that if two nonzero homomorphisms from the Cuntz algebra O_infinity to a purely infinite simple C*-algebra have the same class in KK-theory, and if either both are unital or both are nonunital, then they are approximately unitarily equivalent. It follows that O_infinity is classifiable in the sense of Rordam. In particular, Rordam's classification theorem for direct limits of matrix algebras over even Cuntz algebras extends to direct limits involving both matrix algebras over even Cuntz algebras and corners of O_infinity for which the K_0 group can be an arbitrary countable abelian gr…
The Cuntz semigroup of a C*-algebra is an important invariant in the structure and classification theory of C*-algebras. It captures more information than K-theory but is often more delicate to handle. We systematically study the lattice and category theoretic aspects of Cuntz semigroups. Given a C*-algebra $A$, its (concrete) Cuntz semigroup $Cu(A)$ is an object in the category $Cu$ of (abstract) Cuntz semigroups, as introduced by Coward, Elliott and Ivanescu. To clarify the distinction between concrete and abstract Cuntz semigroups, we will call the latter $Cu$-semigroups. We establish the e…
The cone of lower semicontinuous traces is studied with a view to its use as an invariant. Its properties include compactness, Hausdorffness, and continuity with respect to inductive limits. A suitable notion of dual cone is given. The cone of lower semicontinuous 2-quasitraces on a (non-exact) C*-algebra is considered as well. These results are applied to the study of the Cuntz semigroup. It is shown that if a C*-algebra absorbs the Jiang-Su algebra, then the subsemigroup of its Cuntz semigroup consisting of the purely non-compact elements is isomorphic to the dual cone of the cone of lower s…
We prove a classification theorem for purely infinte simple C*-algebras that is strong enough to show that the tensor products of two different irrational rotation algebras with the same even Cuntz algebra are isomorphic. In more detail, let C be be the class of simple C*-algebras A which are direct limits A = lim A_k, in which each A_k is a finite direct sum of algebras of the form C(X) \otimes M_n \otimes O_m, where m is even, O_m is the Cuntz algebra, X is either a point, a compact interval, or the circle S^1, and each map A_k ---> A is approximately absorbing. ("Approximately absorbing" is…
In a number of recent papers, the idea of generalized boundaries has found use in fractal and in multiresolution analysis; many of the papers having a focus on specific examples. Parallel with this new insight, and motivated by quantum probability, there has also been much research which seeks to study fractal and multiresolution structures with the use of certain systems of non-commutative operators; non-commutative harmonic/stochastic analysis. This in turn entails combinatorial, graph operations, and branching laws. The most versatile, of these non-commutative algebras are the Cuntz algebra…
We introduce filling families with matrix diagonalization as a refinement of the work by Rørdam and the first named author. As an application we improve a result on local pure infiniteness and show that the minimal tensor product of a strongly purely infinite $C^*$-algebra and a exact $C^*$-algebra is again strongly purely infinite. Our results also yield a sufficient criterion for the strong pure infiniteness of crossed products $A\rtimes_φ\mathbb{N}$ by an endomorphism $φ$ of $A$ (cf. Theorem 7.6). Our work confirms that the special class of nuclear Cuntz-Pimsner algebras constructed by Harn…
We prove that any separable exact C*-algebra is isomorphic to a subalgebra of the Cuntz algebra ${\cal O}_2.$ We further prove that if $A$ is a simple separable unital nuclear C*-algebra, then ${\cal O}_2 \otimes A \cong {\cal O}_2,$ and if, in addition, $A$ is purely infinite, then ${\cal O}_{\infty} \otimes A \cong A.$ The embedding of exact C*-algebras in $\OA{2}$ is continuous in the following sense. If $A$ is a continuous field of C*-algebras over a compact manifold or finite CW complex $X$ with fiber $A (x)$ over $x \in X,$ such that the algebra of continuous sections of $A$ is separable…
Using free probability constructions involving Cuntz-Pimsner C*-algebras we show that the topological entropy of the free product of two automorphisms is equal to the maximum of the individual entropies. As applications we show that general free shifts have entropy zero. We show that any nuclear C*-dynamical system admits an entropy preserving covariant embedding into the Cuntz algebra on infinitely many generators. It follows that any simple nuclear purely infinite C*-algebra admits an automorphism with any given value of entropy. As a final application we show that if two automorphisms satis…
Pimsner introduced the C*-algebra O_X generated by a Hilbert bimodule X over a C*-algebra A. We look for additional conditions that X should satisfy in order to study simplicity and, more generally, the ideal structure of O_X when X is finite projective. We introduce two conditions: `(I)-freeness' and `(II)-freeness', stronger than the former, in analogy with [J. Cuntz, W. Krieger, Invent. Math. 56, 251-268] and [J. Cuntz, Invent. Math. 63, 25-40] respectively. (I)-freeness comprehend the case of the bimodules associated with an inclusion of simple C*-algebras with finite index, real or pseudo…
To an arbitrary directed graph we associate a row-finite directed graph whose C*-algebra contains the C*-algebra of the original graph as a full corner. This allows us to generalize results for C*-algebras of row-finite graphs to C*-algebras of arbitrary graphs: the uniqueness theorem, simplicity criteria, descriptions of the ideals and primitive ideal space, and conditions under which a graph algebra is AF and purely infinite. Our proofs require only standard Cuntz-Krieger techniques and do not rely on powerful constructs such as groupoids, Exel-Laca algebras, or Cuntz-Pimsner algebras.
In this paper we study Cuntz--Pimsner algebras associated to $\mathrm{C}^*$-correspondences over commutative $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras from the point of view of the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra classification programme. We show that when the correspondence comes from an aperiodic homeomorphism of a finite-dimensional infinite compact metric space $X$ twisted by a vector bundle, the resulting Cuntz--Pimsner algebras have finite nuclear dimension. When the homeomorphism is minimal, this entails classification of these $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras by the Elliott invariant. This establishes a dichotomy: when t…
Let $γ= (γ_1,...,γ_N)$, $N \geq 2$, be a system of proper contractions on a complete metric space. Then there exists a unique self-similar non-empty compact subset $K$. We consider the union ${\mathcal G} = \cup_{i=1}^N \{(x,y) \in K^2 ; x = γ_i(y)\}$ of the cographs of γ_i$. Then $X = C({\mathcal G})$ is a Hilbert bimodule over $A = C(K)$. We associate a $C^*$-algebra ${\mathcal O}_γ(K)$ with them as a Cuntz-Pimsner algebra ${\mathcal O}_X$. We show that if a system of proper contractions satisfies the open set condition in $K$, then the $C^*$-algebra ${\mathcal O}_γ(K)$ is simple and purely …
In this note we analyze the C*-algebra associated with a branched covering both as a groupoid C*-algebra and as a Cuntz-Pimsner algebra. We determine conditions when the algebra is simple and purely infinite. We indicate how to compute the K-theory of several examples, including one related to rational maps on the Riemann sphere.
We classify graph C*-algebras, namely, Cuntz-Krieger algebras associated to the Bass-Hashimoto edge incidence operator of a finite graph. This is done by a purely graph theoretical calculation of the K-theory and the position of the unit therein.
Counterexamples to classification of purely infinite, nuclear, separable C*-algebras (in the ideal-related bootstrap class) and with primitive ideal space X using ideal-related K-theory occur for infinitely many finite primitive ideal spaces X, the smallest of which having four points. Ideal-related K-theory is known to be strongly complete for such C*-algebras if they have real rank zero and X has at most four points for all but two exceptional spaces: the pseudo-circle and the diamond space. In this article, we close these two remaining cases. We show that ideal-related K-theory is strongly …
The notion of permutative representation is generalized to the $2$-adic ring $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal{Q}_{2}$. Permutative representations of $\mathcal{Q}_2$ are then investigated with a particular focus on the inclusion of the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_2\subset\mathcal{Q}_2$. Notably, every permutative representation of $\mathcal{O}_2$ is shown to extend automatically to a permutative representation of $\mathcal{Q}_2$ provided that an extension whatever exists. Moreover, all permutative extensions of a given representation of $\mathcal{O}_2$ are proved to be unitarily equivalent to one anothe…
Using Cuntz semigroup techniques, we characterize when limit traces are dense in the space of all traces on a free ultrapower of a C*-algebra. More generally, we consider density of limit quasitraces on ultraproducts of C*-algebras. Quite unexpectedly, we obtain as an application that every simple C*-algebra that is (m,n)-pure in the sense of Winter is already pure. As another application, we provide a partial verification of the first Blackadar-Handelman conjecture on dimension functions. Crucial ingredients in our proof are new Hahn-Banach type separation theorems for noncancellative cones, …
