The matrix Whittaker kernel has been introduced by A. Borodin in Part IV of the present series of papers. This kernel describes a point process -- a probability measure on a space of countable point configurations. The kernel is expressed in terms of the Whittaker confluent hypergeometric functions. It depends on two parameters and determines a $J$-symmetric operator $K$ in $L^2(R_+)\oplus L^2(R_+)$.
It turns out that the operator $K$ can be represented in the form $L(1+L)^{-1}$, where $L$ is a rather simple integral operator: the kernel of $L$ is expressed in terms of elementary functions only. This is our main result; it elucidates the nature of the matrix Whittaker kernel and makes it possible to directly verify the existence of the associated point process.
Next, we show that the matrix Whittaker kernel can be degenerated to a family of kernels expressed through the Bessel and Macdonald functions. In this way one can obtain both the well-known Bessel kernel (which arises in random matrix theory) and certain interesting new kernels.
We study a 2-parametric family of probability measures on the space of countable point configurations on the punctured real line (the points of the random configuration are concentrated near zero). These measures (or, equivalently, point processes) have been introduced in Part II (A. Borodin, math.RT/9804087) in connection with the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. The main result of the present paper is a determinantal formula for the correlation functions. The formula involves a kernel called the matrix Whittaker kernel. Each of its two diagonal blocks governs the…
We study a 3-parametric family of stochastic point processes on the one-dimensional lattice originated from a remarkable family of representations of the infinite symmetric group. We prove that the correlation functions of the processes are given by determinantal formulas with a certain kernel. The kernel can be expressed through the Gauss hypergeometric function; we call it the hypergeometric kernel. In a scaling limit our processes approximate the processes describing the decomposition of representations mentioned above into irreducibles. As we showed before, see math.RT/9810015, the correla…
For a real reductive linear Lie group G, the space of Whittaker functions is the representation space induced from a non-degenerate unitary character of the Iwasawa nilpotent subgroup. Defined are the standard Whittaker (g,K)-modules, which are K-admissible submodules of the space of Whittaker functions. We first determine the structures of them when the infinitesimal characters characterizing them are generic. As an example of the integral case, we determine the composition series of the standard Whittaker (g,K)-module when G is the group U(n,1) and the infinitesimal character is regular inte…
We give a characterization of a generalized Whittaker model of a degenerate principal series representation of $GL(n,\R)$ as the kernel of some differential operators. By this characterization, we investigate some examples on $GL(4,\R)$. We obtain the dimensions of the generalized Whittaker models and give their basis in terms of hypergeometric functions of one and two variables. We show the multiplicity one of the generalized Whittaker models by using the theory of hypergeometric functions.
A representation of a specialization of a q-deformed class one lattice gl(\ell+1}-Whittaker function in terms of cohomology groups of line bundles on the space QM_d(P^{\ell}) of quasi-maps P^1 to P^{\ell} of degree d is proposed. For \ell=1, this provides an interpretation of non-specialized q-deformed gl(2)-Whittaker function in terms of QM_d(\IP^1). In particular the (q-version of) Mellin-Barnes representation of gl(2)-Whittaker function is realized as a semi-infinite period map. The explicit form of the period map manifests an important role of q-version of Gamma-function as a substitute of…
Starting with nonsymmetric global difference spherical functions, we define and calculate spinor (nonsymmetric) global q-Whittaker functions for arbitrary reduced root systems, which are reproducing kernels of the DAHA-Fourier transforms of Nil-DAHA and solutions of the q-Toda-Dunkl eigenvalue problem. We introduce the spinor q-Toda-Dunkl operators as limits of the difference Dunkl operators in DAHA theory under the spinor variant of the Ruijsenaars procedure. Their general algebraic theory (any reduced root systems) is the key part of this paper, based on the new technique of W-spinors and co…
In this paper, we prove a weak kernel formula of Bessel functions attached to irreducible generic representations of p-adic $GL(n)$. As an application, we show that the Bessel function defined by Bessel distribution coincides with the Bessel function defined via uniqueness of Whittaker models on the open Bruhat cell.
In Part I (G.Olshanski, math.RT/9804086) and Part II (A.Borodin, math.RT/9804087) we developed an approach to certain probability distributions on the Thoma simplex. The latter has infinite dimension and is a kind of dual object for the infinite symmetric group. Our approach is based on studying the correlation functions of certain related point stochastic processes. In the present paper we consider the so-called tail point processes which describe the limit behavior of the Thoma parameters (coordinates on the Thoma simplex) with large numbers. The tail processes turn out to be stationary proc…
For a reductive group $G$ over a non-Archimedean local field (e.g $GL_n( \mathbb{Q}_p )$ ), Jacquet's Whittaker function is essentially proportional to a character of an irreducible representation of the Langlands dual group $G^\vee( \mathbb{C} )$ ( a Schur function if $G = GL_n( \mathbb{Q}_p )$). We propose a probabilistic approach to this claim, known as the Shintani-Casselman-Shalika formula, when the group $G$ has at least one minuscule cocharacter in the coweight lattice. Our presentation goes along the following lines. Thanks to a minuscule random walk $W^{(z)}$ on the coweight lattice a…
Let $G$ be a reductive group over a local field $F$ of characteristic zero, Archimedean or not. Let $X$ be a $G$-space. In this paper we study the existence of generalized Whittaker quotients for the space of Schwartz functions on $X$, considered as a representation of $G$. We show that the set of nilpotent elements of the dual space to the Lie algebra such that the corresponding generalized Whittaker quotient does not vanish contains the nilpotent part of the image of the moment map, and lies in the closure of this image. This generalizes recent results of Prasad and Sakellaridis. Applying ou…
We continue the study of the correlation functions for the point stochastic processes introduced in Part I (G.Olshanski, math.RT/9804086). We find an integral representation of all the correlation functions and their explicit expression in terms of multivariate hypergeometric functions. Then we define a modification (``lifting'') of the processes which results in a substantial simplification of the structure of the correlation functions. It turns out that the ``lifted'' correlation functions are given by a determinantal formula involving a kernel. The latter has the form (A(x)B(y)-B(x)A(y))/(x…
Recently we propose a class of infinite-dimensional integral representations of classical gl(n+1)-Whittaker functions and local Archimedean local L-factors using two-dimensional topological field theory framework. The local Archimedean Langlands duality was identified in this setting with the mirror symmetry of the underlying topological field theories. In this note we introduce elementary analogs of the Whittaker functions and the Archimedean L-factors given by U(n+1)-equivariant symplectic volumes of appropriate Kahler U(n+1)-manifolds. We demonstrate that the functions thus defined have a d…
We give a summary of the results from Parts I-V (math.RT/9804086, math.RT/9804087, math.RT/9804088, math.RT/9810013, math.RT/9810014). Our work originated from harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. The problem of spectral decomposition for certain representations of this group leads to a family of probability measures on an infinite-dimensional simplex, which is a kind of dual object for the infinite symmetric group. To understand the nature of these measures we interpret them as stochastic point processes on the punctured real line and compute their correlation functions. The cor…
We construct a family of Pfaffian point processes relevant for the harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. The correlation functions of these processes are representable as Pfaffians with matrix valued kernels. We give explicit formulae for the matrix valued kernels in terms of the classical Whittaker functions. The obtained formulae have the same structure as that arising in the study of symplectic ensembles of Random Matrix Theory. The paper is an extended version of the author's talk at Fall 2010 MSRI Random Matrix Theory program.
In this paper, we prove a kernel formula of Bessel functions attached to irreducible smooth supercuspidal representations of p-adic $GL(n)$. We also show that the Bessel function defined by Bessel distribution coincides with the Bessel function defined via uniqueness of Whittaker models on the open Bruhat cell. As an application we give a proof of the local converse conjecture of Jacquet.
The Laguerre symmetric functions introduced in the note are indexed by arbitrary partitions and depend on two continuous parameters. The top degree homogeneous component of every Laguerre symmetric function coincides with the Schur function with the same index. Thus, the Laguerre symmetric functions form a two-parameter family of inhomogeneous bases in the algebra of symmetric functions. These new symmetric functions are obtained from the N-variate symmetric polynomials of the same name by a procedure of analytic continuation. The Laguerre symmetric functions are eigenvectors of a second order…
The main result of this paper, Theorem 1.1, gives explicit formulae for the kernels of the ergodic decomposition measures for infinite Pickrell measures on spaces of infinite complex matrices. The kernels are obtained as the scaling limits of Christoffel-Uvarov deformations of Jacobi orthogonal polynomial ensembles.
We introduce and study a 2-parameter family of unitarily invariant probability measures on the space of infinite Hermitian matrices. We show that the decomposition of a measure from this family on ergodic components is described by a determinantal point process on the real line. The correlation kernel for this process is explicitly computed. At certain values of parameters the kernel turns into the well-known sine kernel which describes the local correlation in Circular and Gaussian Unitary Ensembles. Thus, the random point configuration of the sine process is interpreted as the random set of …
In this paper we show that the tree class of a component of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of a Frobenius-Lusztig kernel is one of the three infinite Dynkin diagrams. For the special case of the small quantum group we show that the periodic components are homogeneous tubes and that the non-periodic components have shape Z[A_\infty] if the component contains a module for the infinite-dimensional quantum group.
