AMS-TeX, 37 pages. The hypothesis of Theorems 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 7.1 are weakened. We also show that a finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebra whose coradical is the group algebra of an abelian group of exponent $p$ is necessarily generated by group-like and skew-primitive elements
In a previous work \cite{AS2} we showed how to attach to a pointed Hopf algebra A with coradical $\kΓ$, a braided strictly graded Hopf algebra R in the category $_Γ^Γ\Cal{YD}$ of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over $Γ$. In this paper, we consider a further invariant of A, namely the subalgebra R' of R generated by the space V of primitive elements. Algebras of this kind are known since the pioneering work of Nichols. It turns out that R' is completely determined by the braiding c:V\otimes V \to V \otimes V. We denote R' = B(V). We assume further that $Γ$ is finite abelian. Then c is given by a matrix (b_{ij}) whose entries are roots of unity; we also suppose that they have odd order. We introduce for these braidings the notion of "braiding of Cartan type" and we attach a generalized Cartan matrix to a braiding of Cartan type. We prove that B(V) is finite dimensional if its corresponding matrix is of finite Cartan type and give sufficient conditions for the converse statement. As a consequence, we obtain many new families of pointed Hopf algebras. When $Γ$ is a direct sum of copies of a group of prime order, the conditions hold and any matrix is of Cartan type. As a sample, we classify all the finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras which are coradically graded, generated in degree one and whose coradical has odd prime dimension p. We also characterize coradically graded pointed Hopf algebras of order p^4, which are generated in degree one.
We propose the following principle to study pointed Hopf algebras, or more generally, Hopf algebras whose coradical is a Hopf subalgebra. Given such a Hopf algebra A, consider its coradical filtration and the associated graded coalgebra grad(A). Then grad(A) is a graded Hopf algebra, since the coradical A_0 of A is a Hopf subalgebra. In addition, there is a projection π: grad(A) \to A_0; let R be the algebra of coinvariants of π. Then, by a result of Radford and Majid, R is a braided Hopf algebra and grad(A) is the bosonization (or biproduct) of R and A_0: grad(A) is isomorphic to (R # A_0). T…
We show that a large class of finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras is quasi-isomorphic to their associated graded version coming from the coradical filtration, i.e. they are 2-cocycle deformations of the latter. This supports a slightly specialized form of a conjecture of Masuoka.
We consider an interesting class of braidings defined by a combinatorial property in an earlier paper. We show that it consists exactly of those braidings that come from certain Yetter-Drinfeld module structures over pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical. As a tool we define a reduced version of the FRT construction. For braidings induced by U_q(g)-modules the reduced FRT construction is calculated explicitly.
This is a survey on pointed Hopf algebras over algebraically closed fields of characteristic 0. We propose to classify pointed Hopf algebras $A$ by first determining the graded Hopf algebra $\gr A$ associated to the coradical filtration of $A$. The $A_{0}$-coinvariants elements form a braided Hopf algebra $R$ in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over the coradical $A_{0} = \ku Γ$, $Γ$ the group of group-like elements of $A$, and $\gr A \simeq R # A_{0}$. We call the braiding of the primitive elements of $R$ the infinitesimal braiding of $A$. If this braiding is of Cartan type \cite{AS2},…
We study the Calabi-Yau property of pointed Hopf algebra $U(\mc{D},\lmd)$ of finite Cartan type. It turns out that this class of pointed Hopf algebras constructed by N. Andruskiewitsch and H.-J. Schneider contains many Calabi-Yau Hopf algebras. To give concrete examples of new Calabi-Yau Hopf algebras, we classify the Calabi-Yau pointed Hopf algebras $U(\mc{D},\lmd)$ of dimension less than 5.
We construct finite-dimensional Hopf algebras whose coradical is the group algebra of a central extension of an abelian group. They fall into families associated to a semisimple Lie algebra together with a Dynkin diagram automorphism. We show conversely that every finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over a non-abelian group with non-simple infinitesimal braiding of rank at least 4 is of this form. We follow the steps of the Lifting Method by Andruskiewitsch--Schneider. Our starting point is the classification of finite-dimensional Nichols algebras over non-abelian groups by Heckenberger--V…
We give a characterization of finite pointed tensor categories obtained as de-equivariantizations of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over abelian groups only in terms of the (cohomology class of the) associator of the pointed part. As an application we prove that every coradically graded pointed finite braided tensor category is a de-equivariantization of a finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over an abelian group.
We show that any finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over an abelian group $Γ$ such that its infinitesimal braiding is of standard type is generated by group-like and skew-primitive elements. This fact agrees with the long-standing conjecture by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. We also show that the quantum Serre relations hold in any coradically graded pointed Hopf algebra over $Γ$ of finite dimension and determine how these relations are lifted in the standard case.
This article serves a two-fold purpose. On the one hand, it is a survey about the classification of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical, whose final step is the computation of the liftings or deformations of graded Hopf algebras. On the other, we present a step-by-step guide to carry out the strategy developed to construct the liftings. As an example, we conclude the work with the classification of pointed Hopf algebras of type $B_2$.
We determine finite-dimensional Hopf algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, whose Hopf coradical is isomorphic to a non-pointed basic Hopf algebra of dimension $24$ and the infinitesimal braidings are indecomposable objects. In particular, we obtain families of new finite-dimensional Hopf algebras without the dual Chevalley property.
In this article we develop some aspects of the construction of new Hopf algebras found recently by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. There the authors classified (under some slight restrictions) all pointed finite dimensional Hopf algebras with coradical (Z/p)^s. We contribute to this work by giving a closer description of the possible ``exotic'' linkings.
We classify exact indecomposable module categories over the representation category of all non-trivial Hopf algebras with coradical S_3 and S_4. As a byproduct, we compute all its Hopf-Galois extensions and we show that these Hopf algebras are cocycle deformations of their graded versions.
The aim of this paper is to contribute more examples and classification results of finite pointed quasi-quantum groups within the quiver framework initiated in \cite{qha1, qha2}. The focus is put on finite dimensional graded Majid algebras generated by group-like elements and two skew-primitive elements which are mutually skew-commutative. Such quasi-quantum groups are associated to quasi-quantum planes in the sense of nonassociative geomertry \cite{m1, m2}. As an application, we obtain an explicit classification of graded pointed Majid algebras with abelian coradical of dimension $p^3$ and $p…
In this paper, we initiate the study of nondiagonal finite quasi-quantum groups over finite abelian groups. We mainly study the Nichols algebras in the twisted Yetter-Drinfeld module category $_{\k G}^{\k G}\mathcal{YD}^Φ$ with $Φ$ a nonabelian $3$-cocycle on a finite abelian group $G.$ A complete clarification is obtained for the Nichols algebra $B(V)$ in case $V$ is a simple twisted Yetter-Drinfeld module of nondiagonal type. This is also applied to provide a complete classification of finite-dimensional coradically graded pointed coquasi-Hopf algebras over abelian groups of odd order and co…
We classify twisted conjugacy classes of type D associated to the sporadic simple groups. This is an important step in the program of the classification of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with non-abelian coradical. As a by-product we prove that every complex finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra over the group of automorphisms of M12, J2, Suz, He, HN, T is the group algebra. In the appendix we improve the study of conjugacy classes of type D in sporadic simple groups.
Action of finite-dimensional Hopf algebra $H$ on commutative $k-$algebra $A$ is considered. As a generalization of the well-known fact for finite groups S. Montgomery raised a problem in 1993 whether $A$ is integral over subalgebra of invariants $A^H$. Recently some new results were obtained. Using the properties of coradical filtration of pointed Hopf algebras we verified the truth of the hypothesis in tree different cases: 1) Hopf algebra $H$ is commutative; 2) char $k = p > 0$; 3) $A$ is integral domain. In spite of numerous partial positive results it turned out that hypothesis of S. Montg…
Nichols algebras are a fundamental building block of pointed Hopf algebras. Part of the classification program of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with the lifting method of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider is the determination of the liftings, i.e., all possible deformations of a given Nichols algebra. Based on recent work of Heckenberger about Nichols algebras of diagonal type we compute explicitly the liftings of all Nichols algebras with Cartan matrix of type A_2, some Nichols algebras with Cartan matrix of type B_2, and some Nichols algebras of two Weyl equivalence classes of non-sta…
We prove the existence of a basis of Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt type for braided Hopf algebras R generated by a braided subspace V of P(R) if the braiding on V fulfils a triangularity condition. We apply our result to pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical and to Nichols algebras of low dimensional simple U_q(sl_2) modules.
Andruskiewitsch and Schneider classify a large class of pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical. The quantum double of each such Hopf algebra is investigated. The quantum doubles of a family of Hopf algebras from the above classification are ribbon Hopf algebras.
We study the de-equivariantization of a Hopf algebra by an affine group scheme and we apply Tannakian techniques in order to realize it as the tensor category of comodules over a coquasi-bialgebra. As an application we construct a family of coquasi-Hopf algebras $A(H,G,Φ)$ attached to a coradically-graded pointed Hopf algebra $H$ and some extra data.
We examine actions of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras on central simple division algebras in characteristic 0. (By a Hopf action we mean a Hopf module algebra structure.) In all examples considered, we show that the given Hopf algebra does admit a faithful action on a central simple division algebra, and we construct such a division algebra. This is in contrast to earlier work of Etingof and Walton, in which it was shown that most pointed Hopf algebras do not admit faithful actions on fields. We consider all bosonizations of Nichols algebras of finite Cartan type, small quantum groups…
We construct explicit Drinfel'd twists for the generalized Cartan type $H$ Lie algebras in characteristic $0$ and obtain the corresponding quantizations and their integral forms. Via making modular reductions including modulo $p$ reduction and modulo $p$-restrictedness reduction, and base changes, we derive certain modular quantizations of the restricted universal enveloping algebra $\mathbf u(\mathbf{H}(2n;\underline{1}))$ in characteristic $p$. They are new non-pointed Hopf algebras of truncated $p$-polynomial noncommutative and noncocommutative deformation of prime-power dimension $p^{p^{2n…
Using the standard filtration associated with a generalized lifting method, we determine all finite-dimensional Hopf algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero whose coradical generates a Hopf subalgebra isomorphic to the smallest non-pointed non-cosemisimple Hopf algebra ${\mathcal{K}}$ and the corresponding infinitesimal module is an indecomposable object in ${}^{\mathcal{K}}_{\mathcal{K}}\mathcal{YD}$ (we assume that the diagrams are Nichols algebras). As a byproduct, we obtain new Nichols algebras of dimension 8 and new Hopf algebras of dimension 64.
We construct explicit Drinfel'd twists of Jordanian type for the generalized Cartan type K Lie algebras in characteristic 0 and obtain the corresponding quantizations, especially their integral forms. By making modular reductions including modulo p and modulo p-restrictedness reduction, and base changes, we derive certain modular quantizations of the restricted universal enveloping algebra $\mathbf u(\mathbf{K}(2n{+}1;\underline{1}))$ for the restricted simple Lie algebra of Cartan type K in characteristic p. They are new pointed Hopf algebras of noncommutative and noncocommutative and with di…
In this paper, we continue our study of the Green rings of finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras of rank one initiated in \cite{WLZ}, but focus on those Hopf algebras of non-nilpotent type. Let $H$ be a finite dimensional pointed rank one Hopf algebra of non-nilpotent type. We first determine all non-isomorphic indecomposable $H$-modules and describe the Clebsch-Gordan formulas for them. We then study the structures of both the Green ring $r(H)$ and the Grothendieck ring $G_0(H)$ of $H$ and establish the precise relation between the two rings. We use the Cartan map of $H$ to study the Jacob…
Actions of semisimple Hopf algebras H over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero on commutative domains were classified recently by the authors. The answer turns out to be very simple- if the action is inner faithful, then H has to be a group algebra. The present article contributes to the non-semisimple case, which is much more complicated. Namely, we study actions of finite dimensional (not necessarily semisimple) Hopf algebras on commutative domains, particularly when H is pointed of finite Cartan type. The work begins by reducing to the case where H acts inner faithfully on …
The question of whether or not a Hopf algebra $H$ is faithfully flat over a Hopf subalgebra $A$ has received positive answers in several particular cases: when $H$ (or more generally, just $A$) is commutative, or cocommutative, or pointed, or when $K$ contains the coradical of $H$. We prove the statement in the title, adding the class of cosemisimple Hopf algebras to those known to be faithfully flat over all Hopf subalgebras. We also show that the third term of the resulting "exact sequence" $A\to H\to C$ is always a cosemisimple coalgebra, and that the expectation $H\to A$ is positive when $…
After the classification of the finite-dimensional Nichols algebras of diagonal type arXiv:math/0411477, arXiv:math/0605795, the determination of its defining relations arXiv:1008.4144, arXiv:1104.0268, and the verification of the generation in degree one conjecture arXiv:1104.0268, there is still one step missing in the classification of complex finite-dimensional Hopf algebras with abelian group, without restrictions on the order of the latter: the computation of all deformations or liftings. A technique towards solving this question was developed in arXiv:1212.5279, built on cocycle deforma…
This is a continuation of the authors' study of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras H which act inner faithfully on commutative domains. As mentioned in Part I of this work, the study boils down to the case where H acts inner faithfully on a field. These Hopf algebras are referred to as Galois-theoretical. In this work, we provide classification results for finite-dimensional pointed Galois-theoretical Hopf algebras H of finite Cartan type. Namely, we determine when such H of type A_1^{\times r} and some H of rank two possess the Galois-theoretical property. Moreover, we provide necessary…
In this paper, we study pointed rank one Hopf algebras and Hopf-Ore extensions of group algebras, over an arbitrary field $k$. It is proved that the rank of a Hopf-Ore extension of a group algebra is one or two or infinite. It is also shown that an arbitrary (finite or infinite dimensional) pointed Hopf algebra of rank one is isomorphic to a quotient of a Hopf-Ore extension of its coradical, a group algebra. We classify the finite dimensional simple modules and describe a family of indecomposable modules over a Hopf-Ore extension $H=kG(χ, a,δ)$ and its quotient $H'$ of rank one, where $χ(a)\ne…
We classify finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras with abelian coradical, up to isomorphism, and show that they are cocycle deformations of the associated graded Hopf algebra. More generally, for any braided vector space of diagonal type $V$ with a principal realization in the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules of a cosemisimple Hopf algebra $H$ and such that the Nichols algebra $\mathfrak{B}(V)$ is finite-dimensional, thus presented by a finite set $\mathcal G$ of relations, we define a family of Hopf algebras $\mathfrak{u}(\boldsymbolλ)$, $\boldsymbolλ\in \Bbbk^{\mathcal G}$, which are c…
In our previous paper math/0502157 we classified a large class of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras up to isomorphism. However the following problem was left open for Hopf algebras of of type $A,D$ or $E_6$, that is whose Cartan matrix is connected and allows a non-trivial automorphism of the corresponding Dynkin diagram. In this case we described the isomorphisms between two such Hopf algebras with the same Cartan matrix only implicitly. The problem is whether it is possible to compute the isomorphisms in terms of the defining families of parameters. In the present paper we solve this …
Two "quantum enveloping algebras", here denoted by $U(R)$ and $U^{\sim}(R)$, are associated in [FRTa] and [FRTb] to any Yang-Baxter operator R. The latter is only a bialgebra, in general; the former is a Hopf algebra. In this paper, we study the pointed Hopf algebras $U(R_Q)$, where $R_Q$ is the Yang-Baxter operator associated with the multi-parameter deformation of $GL_n$ supplied in [AST]; cf also [S,Re]. Some earlier results concerning these Hopf algebras $U(R_Q)$ were obtained in [To,CLMT,CM]; a related (but different) Hopf algebra was studied in [DP]. The main new results obtained here co…
This thesis is divided into two parts. The first one is composed of recollections on operad theory, model categories, simplicial homotopy theory, rational homotopy theory, Maurer-Cartan spaces, and deformation theory. The second part deals with the theory of convolution algebras and some of their applications, as explained below. Suppose we are given a type of algebras, a type of coalgebras, and a relationship between those types of algebraic structures (encoded by an operad, a cooperad, and a twisting morphism respectively). Then, it is possible to endow the space of linear maps from a coalge…
We describe quantum groups given by multiparametric deformations of enveloping algebras of Kac-Moody algebras as a family of pointed Hopf algebras introduced by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider associated to a generalized Cartan matrix. We show that under some assumptions, these Hopf algebras depend only on one parameter on each connected component of the Dynkin diagram, up to a cocycle deformation. In particular, we obtain in this way a known result of Hu, Pei and Rosso.
We show that the cohomology ring of a finite-dimensional complex pointed Hopf algebra with an abelian group of group-like elements is finitely generated. Our strategy has three major steps. We first reduce the problem to the finite generation of cohomology of finite dimensional Nichols algebras of diagonal type. For the Nichols algebras we do a detailed analysis of cohomology via the Anick resolution reducing the problem further to specific combinatorial properties. Finally, to check these properties we turn to the classification of Nichols algebras of diagonal type due to Heckenberger. In thi…
Since the discovery of quantum groups (Drinfeld, Jimbo) and finite dimensional variations thereof (Lusztig, Manin), these objects were studied from different points of view and had many applications. The present paper is part of a series where we intend to show that important classes of Hopf algebras are quantum groups and therefore belong to Lie theory. One of our main results is the explicit construction of a general family of pointed Hopf algebras from Dynkin diagrams. All the Frobenius-Lusztig kernels and their parabolic subalgebras belong to this family, but in addition we get many new ex…
