Let θ:π_1(R) \to \PSL(2,\C) be a homomorphism of the fundamental group of an oriented, closed surface R of genus exceeding one. We will establish the following theorem.
Theorem. Necessary and sufficient for θto be the monodromy representation associated with a complex projective stucture on R, either unbranched or with a single branch point of order 2, is that θ(π_1(R)) be nonelementary. A branch point is required if and only if the representation θdoes not lift to \SL(2,\C).
In this paper we are investigated the monodromy group for linearly polymorphic functions on compact Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 2,$ in connection with standard uniformization of these surfaces by Kleinian groups, and are found a neccessary and sufficients conditions, that a linearly polymorphic function on compact Riemann surface gave a standard uniformization of this surface. We are investigated the monodromy mapping $p : {\bf T}_{g}Q \rightarrow \mathcal{M},$ where ${\bf T}_{g}Q$ is a vector bundle of holomorphic quadratic abelian differentials over the Teichmueller space of compact Rie…
We study monodromy of holomorphic motions and show the equivalence of triviality of monodromy of holomorphic motions and extensions of holomorphic motions to continuous motions of the Riemann sphere. We also study liftings of holomorphic maps into certain Teichmüller spaces. We use this "lifting property" to prove that, under the condition of trivial monodromy, any holomorphic motion of a closed set in the Riemann sphere, over a hyperbolic Riemann surface, can be extended to a holomorphic motion of the sphere, over the same parameter space. We conclude that this extension can be done in a conf…
For a punctured surface $S$, we characterize the representations of its fundamental group into $\mathrm{PSL}_2 (\mathbb{C})$ that arise as the monodromy of a meromorphic projective structure on $S$ with poles of order at most two and no apparent singularities. This proves the analogue of a theorem of Gallo-Kapovich-Marden concerning $\mathbb{C}\mathrm{P}^1$-structures on closed surfaces, and settles a long-standing question about characterizing monodromy groups for the Schwarzian equation on punctured spheres. The proof involves a geometric interpretation of the Fock-Goncharov coordinates of t…
For a nonconstant holomorphic map between projective Riemann surfaces with conformal metrics, we consider invariant Schwarzian derivatives and projective Schwarzian derivatives of general virtual order. We show that these two quantities are related by the "Schwarzian derivative" of the metrics of the surfaces (at least for the case of virtual orders 2 and 3). As an application, we give univalence criteria for a meromorphic function on the unit disk in terms of the projective Schwarzian derivative of virtual order 3.
Let $E$ be a closed set in the Riemann sphere $\widehat{\mathbb{C}}$. We consider a holomorphic motion $ϕ$ of $E$ over a complex manifold $M$, that is, a holomorphic family of injections on $E$ parametrized by $M$. It is known that if $M$ is the unit disk $Δ$ in the complex plane, then any holomorphic motion of $E$ over $Δ$ can be extended to a holomorphic motion of the Riemann sphere over $Δ$. In this paper, we consider conditions under which a holomorphic motion of $E$ over a non-simply connected Riemann surface $X$ can be extended to a holomorphic motion of $\widehat{\mathbb{C}}$ over $X$. …
A starting point of this paper is a classification of quadratic polynomial transformations of the monodromy manifold for the 2x2 isomonodromic Fuchsian systems associated to the Painleve VI equation. Up to birational automorphisms of the monodromy manifold, we find three transformations. Two of them are identified as the action of known quadratic or quartic transformations of the Painleve VI equation. The third transformation of the monodromy manifold gives a new transformation of degree 3 of Picard's solutions of Painleve VI.
For every integer $g \,\geq\, 2$ we show the existence of a compact Riemann surface $Σ$ of genus $g$ such that the rank two trivial holomorphic vector bundle ${\mathcal O}^{\oplus 2}_Σ$ admits holomorphic connections with $\text{SL}(2,{\mathbb R})$ monodromy and maximal Euler class. Such a monodromy representation is known to coincide with the Fuchsian uniformizing representation for some Riemann surface of genus $g$. The construction carries over to all very stable and compatible real holomorphic structures for the topologically trivial rank two bundle over $Σ$ and gives the existence of holo…
In the paper we give an upper estimate of the number of apparent singularities that are sufficient for construction of a system of linear differential equations on a Riemann surface with given fuchsian singularities and monodromy.
In this paper we introduce a space with some additional topologies using filter bases and renew the definition of Riemann surfaces of algebraic functions. We then present a Galois correspondence between these Riemann surfaces and their deck transformation groups. We also extend the monodromy theorem to the case that the global analytic function possesses singularities, which can be non-isolated.
In this paper, we study the dynamics of Riccati foliations over non-compact finite volume Riemann surfaces. More precisely, we are interested in two closely related questions: the asymptotic behaviour of the holonomy map Hol t ($ω$) defined for every time t over a generic Brownian path $ω$ in the base; and the analytic continuation of holonomy germs of the foliation along Brownian paths in transversal lines. When the monodromy representation is parabolic (i.e. the monodromy around any puncture is a parabolic element in P SL 2 (C)), these questions have already been solved in [DD2] and [Hus]. H…
We study several geometric and group theoretical problems related to Kodaira fibrations, to more general families of Riemann surfaces, and to surface-by-surface groups. First we provide constraints on Kodaira fibrations that fiber in more than two distinct ways, addressing a question by Catanese and Salter about their existence. Then we show that if the fundamental group of a surface bundle over a surface is a ${\rm CAT}(0)$ group, the bundle must have injective monodromy (unless the monodromy has finite image). Finally, given a family of closed Riemann surfaces (of genus $\ge 2$) with injecti…
We prove in two different ways that the monodromy map from the space of irreducible $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-differential-systems on genus two Riemann surfaces, towards the character variety of $\mathrm{SL}_2$-representations of the fundamental group, is a local diffeomorphism. This is motivated by a question raised by Étienne Ghys about Margulis' problem: existence of curves of negative Euler characteristic in compact quotients of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$.
This paper is devoted to characterizing complex projective structures defined on Riemann surface orbifolds and giving rise to injective developing maps defined on the monodromy covering of the surface (orbifold) in question. The relevance of these structures stems from several problems involving vector fields with uniform solutions as well as from problems about "simultaneous uniformization" for leaves of foliations by Riemann surfaces. In this paper, we first describe the local structure of the mentioned projective structures showing, in particular, that they are locally bounded. In the case …
We establish a correspondence on a Riemann surface between hyperbolic metrics with isolated singularities and bounded projective functions whose Schwarzian derivatives have at most double poles and whose monodromies lie in ${\rm PSU}(1,\,1)$. As an application, we construct explicitly a new class of hyperbolic metrics with countably many singularities on the unit disc.
We study algebraic isomonodromic deformations of flat logarithmic connections on the Riemann sphere with $n\geq 4$ poles, for arbitrary rank. We introduce a natural property of algebraizability for the germ of universal deformation of such a connection. We relate this property to a peculiarity of the corresponding monodromy representation: to yield a finite braid group orbit on the appropriate character variety. Under reasonable assumptions on the deformed connection, we may actually establish an equivalence between both properties. We apply this result in the rank two case to relate finite br…
We prove that under certain spectral assumptions on the monodromy group, solutions of Fuchsian systems of linear equations on the Riemann sphere admit explicit global bounds on the number of their isolated zeros.
In this paper we deal with branched coverings over the complement to finitely many exceptional points on the Riemann sphere having the property that the local monodromy around each of the branching points is of finite order. To such a covering we assign its \textit{signature}, i.e. the set of its exceptional and branching points together with the orders of local monodromy operators around the branching points. What can be said about the monodromy group of a branched covering if its signature is known? It seems at first that the answer is nothing or next to nothing. Indeed, generically it is so…
