In the paper we generalize the notion of problem (P) introduced by Poletsky. We introduce the notion of (P_m) extremals. For example, geodesics are (P_1) extremals. Using obtained results we present a description of (P_m) extremals in arbitrary complex ellipsoids. It is a generalization of the result obtained by Jarnicki-Pflug-Zeinstra. We also have a proof of conjecture put forward by Pflug-Zwonek concerning the formulas for geodesics in non-convex complex ellipsoids.
We characterize the existence of proper holomorphic mappings in the special class of bounded $(1,2,...,n)$-balanced domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$, called the symmetrized ellipsoids. Using this result we conclude that there are no non-trivial proper holomorphic self-mappings in the class of symmetrized ellipsoids. We also describe the automorphism groupof these domains.
We discuss the problem of classifying all local CR diffeomorphisms of a strictly pseudoconvex surface. Our method exploits the Tanaka--Webster pseudohermitian invariants, their transformation formulae, and the Chern--Moser invariants. Our main application concerns a class of generalized ellipsoids where we classify all local CR mappings.
The explicit form of proper holomorphic mappings between complex ellipsoids is given. Using this description, we characterize the existence of proper holomorphic mappings between generalized Hartogs triangles and give their explicit form. In particular, the automorphism group of such domains is found.
We prove necessary and sufficient integral conditions involving extremal distance for a conformal mapping of the unit disk to belong to the Hardy or weighted Bergman spaces. We also give characterizations for the Hardy number and the Bergman number of a simply connected domain in terms of extremal distance.
In the paper we give some necessary conditions for a mapping to be a $κ$-geodesic in non-convex complex ellipsoids. Using these results we calculate explicitly the Kobayashi metric in the ellipsoids $\{|z_1|^2+|z_2|^{2m}<1\}\subset\bold C^2$, where $m<\frac12$.
We study extremal discs for the Kobayashi metric. Inspired by work of Lempert on strongly convex domains, we present results on strongly pseudoconvex domains. We also consider a useful biholomorphic invariant, inspired by the Kobayashi (and Carathéodory) metric, and prove several new results about biholomorphic equivalence of domains. Some useful results about automorphism groups of complex domains are also established.

We consider Sobolev mappings $f\in W^{1,q}(Ω,\IC)$, $1<q<\infty$, between planar domains $Ω\subset \IC$. We analyse the Radon-Riesz property for convex functionals of the form \[f\mapsto \int_ΩΦ(|Df(z)|,J(z,f)) \; dz \] and show that under certain criteria, which hold in important cases, weak convergence in $W_{loc}^{1,q}(Ω)$ of (for instance) a minimising sequence can be improved to strong convergence. This finds important applications in the minimisation problems for mappings of finite distortion and the $L^p$ and $Exp$\,-Teichmüller theories.
This paper first studies the regularity of conformal homeomorphisms on smooth locally embeddable strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. Then moduli of curve families are used to estimate the maximal dilatations of quasiconformal homeomorphisms. On certain CR 3-manifolds, namely, CR circle bundles over flat tori, extremal quasiconformal homeomorphisms in some homotopy classes are constructed. These extremal mappings have similar behaviors to Teichmüller mappings on Riemann surfaces.
Let $\widehat{\mathcal {S}}_g^{α, β}(\mathbb{B}^n)$ be a subclass of normalized biholomorphic mappings defined on the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^n,$ which is closely related to the starlike mappings. Firstly, we obtain the growth theorem for $\widehat{\mathcal {S}}_g^{α, β}(\mathbb{B}^n)$. Secondly, we apply the growth theorem and a new type of the boundary Schwarz lemma to establish the distortion theorems of the Fréchet-derivative type and the Jacobi-determinant type for this subclass, and the distortion theorems with $g$-starlike mapping (resp. starlike mapping) are partly established also. A…
We study $C^2$ extremal quasiconformal mappings in space and establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a `localized' form of extremality in the spirit of the work of G. Aronsson on absolutely minimizing Lipschitz extensions. We also prove short time existence for smooth solutions of a gradient flow of QC diffeomorphisms associated to the extremal problem.
The concept of a conformal deformation has two natural extensions: quasiconformal and harmonic mappings. Both classes do not preserve the conformal type of the domain, however they cannot change it in an arbitrary way. Doubly connected domains are where one first observes nontrivial conformal invariants. Herbert Groetzsch and Johannes C. C. Nitsche addressed this issue for quasiconformal and harmonic mappings, respectively. Combining these concepts we obtain sharp estimates for quasiconformal harmonic mappings between doubly connected domains. We then apply our results to the Cauchy problem fo…
For an arbitrary convex function $Ψ:[1,\infty) \to [1,\infty)$, we consider uniqueness in the following two related extremal problems: Problem A boundary value problem: Establish the existence of, and describe the mapping $f$, achieving \[ \inf_f \Big\{ \int_{\Bbb D} Ψ({\Bbb K}(z,f))\; dz : f:\bar{\Bbb D} \to \bar{\Bbb D} \; \mbox{a homeomorphism in $W^{1,1}_{0}({\Bbb D})+f_0$} \Big\}. \] Here the data $f_0:\bar{\Bbb D} \to \bar{\Bbb D}$ is a homeomorphism of finite distortion with $\int_{\Bbb D} Ψ({\Bbb K}(z,f_0))\; dz<\infty$ -- a barrier. Next, given two homeomorphic Riemann surfaces $R$ an…
Let $S$ be a Riemann surface of type $(p,n)$ with $3p-3+n>0$. Let $ω$ be a pseudo-Anosov map of $S$ that is obtained from Dehn twists along two families $\{A,B\}$ of simple closed geodesics that fill $S$. Then $ω$ can be realized as an extremal Teichmüller mapping on a surface of type $(p,n)$ which is also denoted by $S$. Let $ϕ$ be the corresponding holomorphic quadratic differential on $S$. In this paper, we compare the locations of some distinguished points on $S$ in the $ϕ$-flat metric to their locations with respect to the complete hyperbolic metric. More precisely, we show that all possi…

By the Riemann-mapping theorem, one can bijectively map the interior of an $n$-gon $P$ to that of another $n$-gon $Q$ conformally. However, (the boundary extension of) this mapping need not necessarily map the vertices of $P$ to those $Q$. In this case, one wants to find the ``best" mapping between these polygons, i.e., one that minimizes the maximum angle distortion (the dilatation) over \textit{all} points in $P$. From complex analysis such maps are known to exist and are unique. They are called extremal quasiconformal maps, or Teichmüller maps. Although there are many efficient ways to comp…
The main goal of the paper is to study $m$-extremal mappings in the symmetrized bidisc showing that they are rational and $\GG_2$-inner which, in particular, answers a question posed in \cite{Agl-Lyk-You 2013}.
In this paper, we introduce a class of complex-valued polyharmonic mappings, denoted by $HS_{p}(λ)$, and its subclass $HS_{p}^{0}(λ)$, where $λ\in [0,1]$ is a constant. These classes are natural generalizations of a class of mappings studied by Goodman in 1950's. We generalize the main results of Avci and Złotkiewicz from 1990's to the classes $HS_{p}(λ)$ and $HS_{p}^{0}(λ)$, showing that the mappings in $HS_{p}(λ)$ are univalent and sense preserving. We also prove that the mappings in $HS_{p}^{0}(λ)$ are starlike with respect to the origin, and characterize the extremal points of the above cl…
We extend the theory of separately holomorphic mappings between complex analytic spaces. Our method is based on Poletsky theory of discs, Rosay Theorem on holomorphic discs and our recent joint-work with Pflug on cross theorems in dimension 1. It also relies on our new technique of conformal mappings and a generalization of Siciak's relative extremal function. Our approach illustrates the unified character: ``From local informations to global extensions". Moreover, it avoids systematically the use of the classical method of doubly orthogonal bases of Bergman type.
We show that for a closed $n$-manifold $N$ admitting a quasiregular mapping from the Euclidean $n$-space the following are equivalent: (1) order of growth of $π_1(N)$ is $n$, (2) $N$ is aspherical, and (3) $π_1(N)$ is virtually $\mathbb{Z}^n$ and torsion free.

It is proved that the family of Ahlfors extremal mappings of a multiply connected region in the plane onto the unit disc can be expressed as a rational combination of two fixed Ahlfors mappings in much the same way that the family of Riemann mappings associated to a simply connected region can be expressed in terms of a single such map. The formulas reveal that this family of mappings extends to the double as a real analytic function of both variables. In particular, the infinitesimal Caratheodory metric will be expressed in strikingly simple terms. Similar results are proved for the Green's f…
There is a natural pluripotential-theoretic extremal function V_{K,Q} associated to a closed subset K of C^m and a real-valued, continuous function Q on K. We define random polynomials H_n whose coefficients with respect to a related orthonormal basis are independent, identically distributed complex-valued random variables having a very general distribution (which includes both normalized complex and real Gaussian distributions) and we prove results on a.s. convergence of a sequence 1/n log |H_n| pointwise and in L^1_{loc}(C^m) to V_{K,Q}. In addition we obtain results on a.s. convergence of a…
