In this short review article we sketch some developments which should ultimately lead to the analogy of the Chern-Weil homomorphism for principal bundles in the realm of non-commutative differential geometry. Principal bundles there should have Hopf algebras as structure `cogroups'. Since the usual machinery of Lie algebras, connection forms, etc\., just is not available in this setting, we base our approach on the Frölicher--Nijenhuis bracket.

Non-commutative Chern-Weil Theory and the Combinatorics of Wheeling

This work applies the ideas of Alekseev and Meinrenken's Non-commutative Chern-Weil Theory to describe a completely combinatorial and constructive proof of the Wheeling Theorem. In this theory, the crux of the proof is, essentially, the familiar demonstration that a characteristic class does not depend on the choice of connection made to construct it. Cyclic cohomology of Hopf algebras, and a non-commutative Chern-Weil theory

REVISED VERSION: We have re-organized the paper, and included some new results. Most important, we prove that the (truncated) Weil complexes compute the cyclic cohomology of the Hopf algebra (see the new Theorem 7.3). We also include a short discussion on the uni-modulare case, and the computation for $H= U_q(sl_2)$. A Borel-Weil-Bott type theorem of quantum shuffle algebras

We prove in this paper a Borel-Weil-Bott type theorem for the coHochschild homology of a quantum shuffle algebra associated with quantum group datum taking coefficients in some well-chosen bicomodules, which can be looked as an analogue of equivariant line bundles over flag varieties in the non-commutative case.

Transgression and Clifford algebras

Let $W$ be a differential (not necessarily commutative) algebra which carries a free action of a polynomial algebra $SP$ with homogeneous generators $p_1, >..., p_r$. Quantum Principal Bundles and Their Characteristic Classes

A brief exposition of the general theory of characteristic classes of quantum principal bundles is given. The theory of quantum characteristic classes incorporates ideas of classical Weil theory into the conceptual framework of non-commutative differential geometry. A purely cohomological interpretation of the Weil homomorphism is given, together with a standard geometrical interpretation via quantum invariant polynomials. A natural spectral sequence is described. Some quantum phenomena appearing in the formalism are discussed.

The Frölicher-Nijenhuis bracket in non-commutative differential geometry

We carry over to a quite general noncommutative setting some of the basic tools of differential geometry, using from the very beginning the setting of convenient vector spaces developed by Froelicher and Kriegl, which allows to carry all of multilinear algebra into this kind of functional analysis with suitably completed tensor products. In this paper we study associative algebras with a Poisson algebra structure on the center acting by derivations on the rest of the algebra. These structures, which we call Poisson fibred algebras, appear in the study of quantum groups at roots of 1 and related algebras, as well as in the representation theory of affine Lie algebras at the critical level.
