The subject considered in this paper has, at least, three points of interest. Suppose that we have a sequence of one-dimensional analytic varieties in a domain in $\Bbb C^n$. The cluster of this sequence consists from all points in the domains such that every neighbourhood of such points intersects with infinitely many different varieties. The first question is: what analytic properties does the cluster inherit from varieties? We give a sufficient criterion when the cluster contains an analytic disk, but it follows from examples of Stolzenberg and Wermer that, in general, clusters can contain no analytic disks. So we study algebras of continuous function on clusters, which can be approximated by holomorphic functions or polynomials, and show that this algebras possess some analytic properties in all but explicitly pathological and uninteresting cases. Secondly, we apply and results about clusters to polynomial hulls and maximal functions, finding remnants of analytic structures there too. And, finally, due to more and more frequent appearances of analytic disks as tools in complex analysis, it seems to be interesting to look at their sequences to establish terminology, basic notation and properties.
A lot is known about the forward iterates of an analytic function which is bounded by 1 in modulus on the unit disk. The Denjoy-Wolff Theorem describes their convergence properties and several authors, from the 1880's to the 1980's, have provided conjugations which yield very precise descriptions of the dynamics. Backward-iteration sequences are of a different nature because a point could have infinitely many preimages as well as none. However, if we insist in choosing preimages that are at a finite hyperbolic distance each time, we obtain sequences which have many similarities with the forwar…
In this note, we discuss the coefficient regions of analytic self-maps of the unit disk with a prescribed fixed point. As an application, we solve the Fekete-Szegő problem for normalized concave functions with a prescribed pole in the unit disk.
We continue the study of analytic functions in the unit disk of finite order with arbitrary set of singular points on the unit circle, introduced in \cite{FG}. The main focus here is made upon the inverse problem: the existence of a function from this class with a given singular set and zero set subject to certain Blaschke-type condition. We also discuss the local analog of the main result from \cite{FG} similar to the standard local Blaschke condition for analytic and bounded functions in the unit disk.
There is a universal constant $0<r_0<1$ with the following property. Suppose that $f$ is an analytic function on the unit disk $\D$, and suppose that there exists a constant $M>0$ so that the Euclidean area, counting multiplicity, of the portion of $f(\D)$ which lies over the disk $D(f(0),M)$, centered at $f(0)$ and of radius $M$, is strictly less than the area of $D(f(0),M)$. Then $f$ must send $r_0\bar{\D}$ into $D(f(0),M)$. This answers a conjecture of Don Marshall.
We obtain new characterizations of Bergman and Bloch spaces on the unit disc involving equivalent (quasi)-norms of these spaces. Our results are in spirit of estimates obtained by Fefferman and Stein for HArdy spaces in R^n.
Let the function $φ$ be holomorphic in the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ of the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$ and let $φ(\mathbb{D})\subset \mathbb{D}$. We study the level sets and the critical points of the hyperbolic derivative of $φ$, $$|D_φ(z)|:=\frac{(1-|z|^2)|φ'(z)|}{1-|φ(z)|^2}.$$ In particular, we show how the Schwarzian derivative of $φ$ reveals the nature of the critical points.
We study uniform estimates for the family of fundamental Lagrange polynomials associated with any Leja sequence for the complex unit disk. The main result claims that all these polynomials are uniformly bounded on the disk, i.e. independently on the range $N$ of the associated $N$-Leja section. We also give an improved estimate for special values of $N$. As a first application, we get an analogous estimate for any compact subset whose boundary is an Alper-smooth Jordan curve. We then deal with some applications in multivariate Lagrange interpolation. We first give some estimates of the Lebesgu…
In this paper we give some applications of a lemma of Babalola and Opoola \cite{BO}, which is a classical extension of an earlier one by Lewandowski, Miller and Zlotkiewicz \cite{LMZ}. The applications were given via a new generalization of some well-known subclasses of univalent functions, and they unify many known results.
In this paper we study an algebraic and topological structure inside the following sets of special functions: Bloch functions defined on the open unit disk that are unbounded and analytic functions of bounded type defined a Banach algebra E into E, which are not Lorch-analytic.
We give a sharp bound for the Lebesgue constant associated to Leja sequences in the complex unit disk, confirming a conjecture made by Calvi and Phung in 2011
We present a geometric approach to a well-known sharp inequality, due to Cowen and Pommerenke, about angular derivatives of general univalent self-maps of the unit disk.
We propose two possible definitions for the notion of a sampling sequence (or set) for Hardy spaces of the disk. The first one is inspired by recent work of Bruna, Nicolau, and Øyma about interpolating sequences in the same spaces, and it yields sampling sets which do not depend on the value of $p$ and correspond to the result proved for bounded functions ($p=\infty$) by Brown, Shields and Zeller. The second notion, while formally closer to the one used for weighted Bergman spaces, is shown to lead to trivial situations only, but raises a possibly interesting problem.
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}^2$ be a bounded pseudoconvex complete Reinhardt domain with a smooth boundary. We study the behavior of analytic structure in the boundary of $Ω$ and obtain a compactness result for Hankel operators on the Bergman space of $Ω$.
In this paper we define Gevrey polyanalytic classes of order N on the unit disk D and we obtain for these classes a characteristic expansion into N-analytic polynomials on suitable neighborhoods of D. As an application of our main theorem, we perform for the Gevrey polyanalytic classes of order N on the unit disk D, an analogue to E. M. Dyn'kin's theorem. We also derive, for these classes, their characteristic degree of the best uniform approximation on D by N-analytic polynomials.
Given a random sequence of holomorphic maps $f_1,f_2,f_3,...$ of the unit disk $Δ$ to a subdomain $X$, we consider the compositions $$F_n=f_1 \circ f_{2} \circ ... f_{n-1} \circ f_n.$$ The sequence $\{F_n\}$ is called the {\em iterated function system} coming from the sequence $f_1,f_2,f_3,....$ We prove that a sufficient condition on the domain $X$ for all limit functions of any $\{F_n\}$ to be constant is also necessary. We prove the condition is a quasiconformal invariant. Finally, we address the question of uniqueness of limit functions.
In this paper we prove that for an arbitrary pair $\{T_1,T_0\}$ of contractions on Hilbert space with trace class difference, there exists a function $\boldsymbolξ$ in $L^1({\Bbb T})$ (called a spectral shift function for the pair $\{T_1,T_0\}$ ) such that the trace formula $\operatorname{trace}(f(T_1)-f(T_0))=\int_{\Bbb T} f'(ζ)\boldsymbolξ(ζ)\,dζ$) holds for an arbitrary operator Lipschitz function $f$ analytic in the unit disk.
Let X be a complex manifold and c a simple closed curve in X. We address the question: What conditions on c ensure the existence of a 1-dimensional complex subvariety V with boundary c in X. When X = C^n, an answer to this question involves the polynomial hull of gamma. When X = P^n, complex projective space, the projective hull hat{c} of c comes into play. One always has V contained in hat{c}, and for analytic curves they conjecturally coincide. In this paper we establish an approximate analogue of this idea which holds without the analyticity of c. We characterize points in hat{c} as those w…
We study two problems concerning harmonic measure on "champagne subdomains" of the unit disk. These domains are obtained by removing from the unit disk little disks around sequences of points with a uniform distribution with respect to the pseudohyperbolic metric of the unit disk. We find (I) a necessary and sufficient condition on the decay of the radii of the little disks for the exterior boundary to have positive harmonic measure, and (II) describe sampling and interpolating sequences for Bergman spaces in terms of the harmonic measure on such ``champagne subdomains''.
