We find and describe unexpected isomorphisms between two very different objects associated to hypersurface singularities. One object is the Milnor algebra of a function, while the other object associated to a singularity is the local ring of the flatness stratum of the singular locus in a miniversal deformation, an invariant of the contact class of a defining function. Such isomorphisms exist for unimodal hypersurface singularities. However, for the moment it is badly understood, which principle causes these isomorphisms and how far this observation generalises. Here we also provide an algorithmic approach for checking algebra isomorphy.
We recall first some basic facts on weighted homogeneous functions and filtrations in the ring $A$ of formal power series. We introduce next their analogues for weighted homogeneous diffeomorphisms and vector fields. We show that the Milnor algebra is a complete invariant for the classification of weighted homogeneous polynomials with respect to right-equivalence, i.e. change of coordinates in the source and target by diffeomorphism.
We prove that the tangent space to the $(n+1)$-th Milnor $K$-group of a ring $R$ is isomorphic to group of $n$-th absolute Kähler differentials of $R$ when the ring $R$ contains $\frac{1}{2}$ and has sufficiently many invertible elements. More precisely, the latter condition is that $R$ is weakly $5$-fold stable in the sense of Morrow.
A central question in arrangement theory is to determine whether the characteristic polynomial $Δ_q$ of the algebraic monodromy acting on the homology group $H_q(F(\mathcal{A}),\mathbb{C})$ of the Milnor fiber of a complex hyperplane arrangement $\mathcal{A}$ is determined by the intersection lattice $L(\mathcal{A})$. Under simple combinatorial conditions, we show that the multiplicities of the factors of $Δ_1$ corresponding to certain eigenvalues of order a power of a prime $p$ are equal to the Aomoto--Betti numbers $β_p(\mathcal{A})$, which in turn are extracted from $L(\mathcal{A})$. When $…
We give a vanishing theorem for the monodromy eigenspaces of the Milnor fibers of complex line arrangements. By applying the modular bound of the local system cohomology groups given by Papadima-Suciu, the result is deduced from the vanishing of the cohomology of certain Aomoto complex over finite fields. In order to prove this, we introduce degeneration homomorphisms of Orlik-Solomon algebras.
This article and its successor concern the topology of real isolated hypersurface singularities. We prove that after attaching a certain number of handles the real Milnor fibres become contractible, with each handle corresponding to a critical point of a morsification; in particular one recovers the classical formula of Khimshiashvili for the Euler characteristic of the Milnor fibres. We then give sufficient conditions for having that the integer homology groups of the real Milnor fibres are isomorphic to the homology groups of a bouquet of spheres. This is followed by a discussion on real van…
Let $W$ be a finite Coxeter group. We give an algebraic presentation of what we refer to as ``the non-crossing algebra'', which is associated to the hyperplane complement of $W$ and to the cohomology of its Milnor fibre. This is used to produce simpler and more general chain (and cochain) complexes which compute the integral homology and cohomology groups of the Milnor fibre $F$ of $W$. In the process we define a new, larger algebra $\widetilde{A}$, which seems to be ``dual'' to the Fomin-Kirillov algebra, and in low ranks is linearly isomorphic to it. There is also a mysterious connection bet…
We study a simplicial mixed polynomial of cyclic type and its associated weighted homogeneous polynomial. In the present paper, we show that their links are diffeomorphic and their Milnor fibrations are isomorphic.
Landau-Ginzburg mirror symmetry studies isomorphisms between A- and B-models, which are graded Frobenius algebras that are constructed using a weighted homogeneous polynomial $W$ and a related group of symmetries $G$ of $W$. It is known that given two polynomials $W_{1}$, $W_{2}$ with the same weights and same group $G$, the corresponding A-models built with ($W_{1}$,$G$) and ($W_{2}$,$G$) are isomorphic. Though the same result cannot hold in full generality for B-models, which correspond to orbifolded Milnor rings, we provide a partial analogue. In particular, we exhibit conditions where isom…
We consider the topology for a class of hypersurfaces with highly nonisolated singularites which arise as exceptional orbit varieties of a special class of prehomogeneous vector spaces, which are representations of linear algebraic groups with open orbits. These hypersurface singularities include both determinantal hypersurfaces and linear free (and free*) divisors. Although these hypersurfaces have highly nonisolated singularities, we determine the topology of their Milnor fibers, complements and links. We do so by using the action of linear algebraic groups beginning with the complement, ins…
We prove that all elliptic curves over quadratic fields with a subgroup isomorphic to $C_{16}$, as well as all elliptic curves over cubic fields with a subgroup isomorphic to $C_2\times C_{14}$, are base changes of elliptic curves defined over $\Q$. We obtain these results by studying geometric properties of modular curves and maps between modular curves, and then obtaining a modular description of these curves and maps.
We prove that a connected component of the space of stability conditions of a CY3 triangulated category generated by an A_2 collection of 3-spherical objects is isomorphic to the universal cover of the C^*-bundle of non-zero holomorphic differentials on the moduli space of elliptic curves.
We prove that the Brauer group of TMF is isomorphic to the Brauer group of the derived moduli stack of elliptic curves. Then, we compute the local Brauer group, i.e., the subgroup of the Brauer group of elements trivialized by some étale cover of the moduli stack, up to a finite 2-torsion group.
We construct $16$ reflection groups $Γ$ acting on symmetric domains $\mathcal{D}$ of Cartan type IV, for which the graded algebras of modular forms are freely generated by forms of the same weight, and in particular the Satake--Baily--Borel compactification of $\mathcal{D} / Γ$ is isomorphic to a projective space. Four of these are previously known results of Freitag--Salvati Manni, Matsumoto, Perna and Runge. In addition we find several new modular groups of orthogonal type whose algebras of modular forms are freely generated.
We study holomorphic function germs under equivalence relations that preserve an analytic variety. We show that two quasihomogeneous polynomials, not necessarily with isolated singularities, having isomorphic relative Milnor algebras are relative right equivalent. Under the condition that the module of vector fields tangent to the variety is finitely generated, we also show that the relative Tjurina algebra is a complete invariant for the classification of arbitrary function germs with respect to the relative contact equivalence. This is the relative version of a well known result by Mather an…
This paper is a complement to the work of the second author on modular quotient singularities in odd characteristic (see arXiv:1210.8006). Here we prove that if $V$ is a three-dimensional vector space over a field of characteristic $2$ and $G<GL(V)$ is a finite subgroup generated by pseudoreflections and possessing a $2$-dimensional invariant subspace $W$ such that the restriction of $G$ to $W$ is isomorphic to the group $SL_{2}(\mathbb{F}_{2^n})$, then the quotient $V/G$ is non-singular. This, together with earlier known results on modular quotient singularities, implies first that a theorem …
We study mirror symmetry of families of elliptic K3 surfaces with elliptic fibers of type $E_6,~E_7$ and $E_8$. We consider a moduli space $\mathsf{T}$ of the mirror K3 surfaces enhanced with the choice of differential forms. We show that coordinates on $\mathsf{T}$ are given by the ring of quasi modular forms in two variables, with modular groups adapted to the fiber type. We furthermore introduce an algebraic group $\mathsf{G}$ which acts on $\mathsf{T}$ from the right and construct its Lie algebra $\mathrm{Lie}(\mathsf{G})$. We prove that the extended Lie algebra generated by $\mathrm{Lie}(…
This paper aims to show that a certain moduli space $\textsf{T}$, which arises from the so-called Dwork family of Calabi-Yau $n$-folds, carries a special complex Lie algebra containing a copy of $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$. In order to achieve this goal, we introduce an algebraic group $\sf G$ acting from the right on $\textsf{T}$ and describe its Lie algebra ${\rm Lie}({\sf G})$. We observe that ${\rm Lie}({\sf G})$ is isomorphic to a Lie subalgebra of the space of the vector fields on $\textsf{T}$. In this way, it turns out that ${\rm Lie}({\sf G})$ and the modular vector field ${\sf R}$ g…
Let V be a simple vertex operator algebra satisfying the following conditions: (i) The homogeneous subspaces of V of weights less than 0 are 0, the homogeneous subspace of V of weight 0 is spanned by the vacuum and V' is isomorphic to V as a V-module. (ii) Every weak V-module gradable by nonnegative integers is completely reducible. (iii) V is C_2-cofinite. We announce a proof of the Verlinde conjecture for V, that is, of the statement that the matrices formed by the fusion rules among irreducible V-modules are diagonalized by the matrix given by the action of the modular transformation τ\maps…
