Let R be a local complete ring. For an R-module M the canonical ring map R\to End_R(M) is in general neither injective nor surjective; we show that it is bijective for every local cohomology module M := H^h_I(R) if H^l_I(R) = 0 for every l\neq h(:= height(I)) (I an ideal of R); furthermore the same holds for the Matlis dual of such a module. As an application we prove new criteria for an ideal to be a set-theoretic complete intersection.
Let $M$ denote a finitely generated module over a Noetherian ring $R$. For an ideal $I \subset R$ there is a study of the endomorphisms of the local cohomology module $H^g_I(M), g = \operatorname{grade} (I,M),$ and related results. Another subject is the study of left derived functors of the $I$-adic completion $Λ^I_i(H^g_I(M))$, motivated by a characterization of Gorenstein rings given in the book by Simon and the author. Let I be an ideal of a Complete Cohen-Macaulay local ring R of dimension n. We wil show that the natural homomorphism Rto HomR(HcI(KR), HcI(KR)) is an isomorphism provided that I is a cohomologically compltete intersection ideal of grade c where KR (resp. HiI(.)) denote the canonical module (resp. i-th local cohomology with respect to the ideal I) of R. The same result is true for the Matlis dual of HcI(KR).

Let $I$ be an ideal of a local ring $(R,\mathfrak m)$ with $d = \dim R.$ For the local cohomology module $H^i_I(R)$ it is a well-known fact that it vanishes for $i > d$ and is an Artinian $R$-module for $i = d.$ In the case that the Hartshorne-Lichtenbaum Vanishing Theorem fails, that is $H^d_I(R) \not= 0,$ we explore its fine structure. Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $M$ a finitely generated $R$-module. Under various hypotheses, it is proved that the center of $\mbox{End}_R(M)$ coincides with the endomorphism ring of the trace ideal of $M$. These results are exploited to establish results for balanced and rigid modules, and to settle certain cases of a conjecture of Huneke and Wiegand.
We prove several characterizations of Gorenstein rings in terms of vanishings of derived functors of certain modules or complexes whose scalars are restricted via contracting endomorphisms. These results can be viewed as analogues of results of Kunz (in the case of the Frobenius) and Avramov-Hochster-Iyengar-Yao (in the case of general contracting endomorphisms).
We define a ring whose elements are rational functions, whose addition is polynomial multiplication, and whose multiplication is a convolution operation. It is then show that this ring's endomorphisms exhibit a strong classification. Namely, they will all fall in a well structured family, or they will degenerate. This degeneration is classified strongly in terms of roots of unity.
Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ denote an $n$-dimensional Gorenstein ring. For an ideal $I \subset R$ with $\grade I = c$ we define new numerical invariants $τ_{i,j}(I)$ as the socle dimensions of $H^i_{\mathfrak{m}}(H^{n-j}_I(R))$. In case of a regular local ring containing a field these numbers coincide with the Lyubeznik numbers $λ_{i,j}(R/I)$. Based upon properties of ordinal length, we introduce a new class of modules, the binary modules, and study their endomorphism ring. The nilpotent endomorphisms form a two-sided ideal, and after factoring this out, we get a commutative ring. In particular, any binary module without embedded primes is isomorphic to an ideal in a reduced ring.
It is well-known that for a large class of local rings of positive characteristic, including complete intersection rings, the Frobenius endomorphism can be used as a test for finite projective dimension. In this paper, we exploit this property to study the structure of such rings. One of our results states that the Picard group of the punctured spectrum of such a ring $R$ cannot have $p$-torsion. In the present paper we investigate reflexive modules over the endomorphism algebras of reflexive trace ideals in a one-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay local ring. The main theorem generalizes both of the results of S. Goto, N. Matsuoka, and T. T. Phuong and T. Kobayashi concerning the endomorphism algebra of its maximal ideal. We also explore the question of when the category of reflexive modules is of finite type, i.e., the base ring has only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable reflexive modules. Let $(R, \mathfrak m)$ denote an $n$-dimensional Gorenstein ring. For an ideal $I \subset R$ of height $c$ we are interested in the endomorphism ring $B = \Hom_R(H^c_I(R), H^c_I(R)).$ It turns out that $B$ is a commutative ring. In the case of $(R,\mathfrak m)$ a regular local ring containing a field $B$ is a Cohen-Macaulay ring. Its properties are related to the highest Lyubeznik number $l = \dim_k \Ext_R^d(k,H^c_I(R)).$ In particular $R \simeq B$ if and only if $l = 1.$ Moreover, we show that the natural homomorphism $\Ext_R^d(k, H^c_I(R)) \to k$ is non-zero.

In this paper, we will consider derived equivalences for differential graded endomorphism algebras by Keller's approaches. First we construct derived equivalences of differential graded algebras which are endomorphism algebras of the objects from a triangle in the homotopy category of differential graded algebras. We also obtain derived equivalences of differential graded endomorphism algebras from a standard derived equivalence of finite dimensional algebras. In this paper we study endomorphism rings of finite global dimension over a ring associated to a numerical semigroup. We construct these endomorphism rings in two ways, called the lazy and greedy construction. The first main result of this paper shows that the lazy construction enables us to obtain endomorphism rings of arbitrarily large global dimension. The second main result of this paper shows that the greedy construction gives us endomorphism rings which always have global dimension two. According to an old result of Albert and Muckenhoupt, the commutators in the endomorphism ring of a finite dimensional vector space are precisely the elements of trace zero. We replace the finite dimensional vector space with a complex of finite dimensional vector spaces, and characterize commutators and other elements with commutator-like properties in terms of appropriately defined traces.
We give a quasihomogeneity criterion for Gorenstein curves. For complete intersections, it is related to the first step of Vasconcelos' normalization algorithm. In the process, we give a simplified proof of the Kunz-Ruppert criterion.
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian Cohen-Macaulay local ring that has positive dimension and prime characteristic. Li proved that the tensor product of a finitely generated non-free $R$-module $M$ with the Frobenius endomorphism ${}^{φ^n}\!R$ is not maximal Cohen-Macaulay provided that $M$ has rank and $n\gg 0$. This is a survey on the relation between homological properties of the Frobenius endomorphism and finiteness of various homological dimensions of the ring or of modules over it, such as global dimension and projective dimension. We begin with Kunz's surprising result in 1969 that the regularity of a Noetherian local ring is equivalent to the flatness of its Frobenius endomorphism, as well as the subsequent generalizations to the module setting by Peskine and Szpiro and continue up through the recent flurry of results in the last five years. Let $R$ be a local ring of positive characteristic and $X$ a complex with nonzero finitely generated homology and finite injective dimension. We prove that if derived base change of $X$ via the Frobenius (or more generally, via a contracting) endomorphism has finite injective dimension then $R$ is Gorenstein.
It is proved that when R is a local ring of positive characteristic, $ϕ$ is its Frobenius endomorphism, and some non-zero finite R-module has finite flat dimension or finite injective dimension for the R-module structure induced through $ϕ$, then R is regular. Let R be a Cohen-Macaulay ring and M a maximal Cohen-Macaulay R-module. Inspired by recent striking work by Iyama, Burban-Iyama-Keller-Reiten and Van den Bergh we study the question of when the endomorphism ring of M has finite global dimension via certain conditions about vanishing of $\Ext$ modules. We are able to strengthen certain results by Iyama on connections between a higher dimension version of Auslander correspondence and existence of non-commutative crepant resolutions. This paper deals with computing the global dimension of endomorphism rings of maximal Cohen--Macaulay (=MCM) modules over commutative rings. Several examples are computed. In particular, we determine the global spectra, that is, the sets of all possible finite global dimensions of endomorphism rings of MCM-modules, of the curve singularities of type $A_n$ for all $n$, $D_n$ for $n \leq 13$ and $E_{6,7,8}$ and compute the global dimensions of Leuschke's normalization chains for all ADE curves, as announced in [Dao-Faber-Ingalls]. In this paper we consider reduced (non-normal) commutative noetherian rings $R$. With the help of conductor ideals and trace ideals of certain $R$-modules we deduce a criterion for a reflexive $R$-module to be closed under multiplication with scalars in an integral extension of $R$. Using results of Greuel and Knörrer this yields a characterization of plane curves of finite Cohen--Macaulay type in terms of trace ideals. Local and category-theoretical entropies associated with an endomorphism of finite length (i.e., with zero-dimensional closed fiber) of a commutative Noetherian local ring are compared. Local entropy is shown to be less than or equal to category-theoretical entropy. The two entropies are shown to be equal when the ring is regular, and also for the Frobenius endomorphism of a complete local ring of positive characteristic. Furthermore, given a flat morphism of Cohen-Macaulay local rings endowed with compatible endomorphisms of finite length, it is shown that local entropy is "additive". Finally…
For a commutative local ring $R$, consider (noncommutative) $R$-algebras $Λ$ of the form $Λ= End_R(M)$ where $M$ is a reflexive $R$-module with nonzero free direct summand. Such algebras $Λ$ of finite global dimension can be viewed as potential substitutes for, or analogues of, a resolution of singularities of $Spec R$. We develop a theory of G-dimension for modules over local homomorphisms which encompasses the classical theory of G-dimension for finite modules over local rings. As an application, we prove that a local ring R of characteristic p is Gorenstein if and only if it possesses a nonzero finite module of finite projective dimension that has finite G-dimension when considered as an R-module via some power of the Frobenius endomorphism of R. We also prove results that track the behavior of Gorenstein properties of local homomorphisms under (de)composition.
We investigate how to compare Hochschild cohomology of algebras related by a Morita context. Interpreting a Morita context as a ring with distinguished idempotent, the key ingredient for such a comparison is shown to be the grade of the Morita defect, the quotient of the ring modulo the ideal generated by the idempotent. Along the way, we show that the grade of the stable endomorphism ring as a module over the endomorphism ring controls vanishing of higher groups of selfextensions, and explain the relation to various forms of the Generalized Nakayama Conjecture for Noetherian algebras. We characterize the nil clean matrix rings over fields. As a by product, it is proved that the full matrix rings with coefficients in commutative nil-clean rings are nil-clean, and we obtain a complete characterization of the finite rank Abelian groups with nil clean endomorphism ring and the Abelian groups with strongly nil clean endomorphism ring, respectively.
We study local cohomology of rings of global sections of sheafs on the Alexandrov space of a partially ordered set. We give a criterion for a splitting of the local cohomology groups into summands determined by the cohomology of the poset and the local cohomology of the stalks. The face ring of a rational pointed fan can be considered as the ring of global sections of a flasque sheaf on the face poset of the fan. We study rings which have Noetherian cohomology under the action of a ring of cohomology operators. The main result is a criterion for a complex of modules over such a ring to have finite injective dimension. This criterion generalizes, by removing finiteness conditions, and unifies several previous results. In particular we show that for a module over a ring with Noetherian cohomology, if all higher self-extensions of the module vanish then it must have finite injective dimension. In this paper we study endomorphism rings of finite global dimension over not necessarily normal commutative rings. These objects have recently attracted attention as noncommutative (crepant) resolutions, or NC(C)Rs, of singularities. We propose a notion of a NCCR over any commutative ring that appears weaker but subsumes all previous notions. Our results yield strong necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such objects in many cases of interest.
