We establish integral tests and laws of the iterated logarithm at 0 and at $+\infty$, for the upper envelope of positive self-similar Markov processes. Our arguments are based on the Lamperti representation, time reversal arguments and on the study of the upper envelope of their future infimum due to Pardo \cite{Pa}. These results extend integral test and laws of the iterated logarithm for Bessel processes due to Dvoretsky and Erdös \cite{de} and stable Lévy processes conditioned to stay positive with no positive jumps due to Bertoin \cite{be1}.
We establish integral tests and laws of the iterated logarithm for the lower envelope of positive self-similar Markov processes at 0 and $+\infty$. Our proofs are based on the Lamperti representation and time reversal arguments. These results extend laws of the iterated logarithm for Bessel processes due to Dvoretsky and Erdös, Motoo and Rivero.
We provide several characterizations to identify Strong envelop (for bounded measurable process) and Strong super-martingale (for non-negative right upper semi-continuous process of the class $\Dc$). As examples of application, we prove existence and uniqueness of reflected backward stochastic differential equation with lower barrier (RBSDB in short) in two cases: $i)$. the obstacle is a measurable bounded process; $ii)$. the obstacle is a right upper semicontinuous optional process of class $\Dc$.
We obtain an upper escape rate function for a continuous time minimal symmetric Markov chain, defined on a locally finite weighted graph. This upper rate function is given in terms of volume growth with respect to an adapted path metric and has the same form as the manifold setting. Our approach also gives a slightly more restrictive form of Folz's theorem on conservativeness as a consequence.
In this paper, we consider the (upper) semigroup envelope, i.e. the least upper bound, of a given family of linear Feller semigroups. We explicitly construct the semigroup envelope and show that, under suitable assumptions, it yields viscosity solutions to abstract Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-type partial differential equations related to stochastic optimal control problems arising in the field of Robust Finance. We further derive conditions for the existence of a Markov process under a nonlinear expectation related to the semigroup envelope for the case where the state space is locally compact. T…
We establish integral tests and laws of the iterated logarithm for the upper envelope of the future infimum of positive self-similar Markov processes and for increasing self-similar Markov processes at 0 and infinity. Our proofs are based on the Lamperti representation and time reversal arguments due to Chaumont and Pardo [9]. These results extend laws of the iterated logarithm for the future infimum of Bessel processes due to Khoshnevisan et al. [11].
In this article, relying on Foster-Lyapunov drift conditions, we establish subexponential upper and lower bounds on the rate of convergence in the $\mathrm{L}^p$-Wasserstein distance for a class of irreducible and aperiodic Markov processes. We further discuss these results in the context of Markov Lévy-type processes. In the lack of irreducibility and/or aperiodicity properties, we obtain exponential ergodicity in the $\mathrm{L}^p$-Wasserstein distance for a class of Itô processes under an asymptotic flatness (uniform dissipativity) assumption. Lastly, applications of these results to specif…
We study the limit behaviour of upper and lower bounds on expected time averages in imprecise Markov chains; a generalised type of Markov chain where the local dynamics, traditionally characterised by transition probabilities, are now represented by sets of 'plausible' transition probabilities. Our main result is a set of necessary and sufficient conditions under which these upper and lower bounds, called upper and lower expected time averages, will converge as time progresses towards infinity to limit values that do not depend on the process' initial state. Remarkably, our conditions are cons…
This paper proposes a new algorithm for computing the stationary distribution vector in continuous-time upper block-Hessenberg Markov chains. To this end, we consider the last-block-column-linearly-augmented (LBCL-augmented) truncation of the (infinitesimal) generator of the upper block-Hessenberg Markov chain. The LBCL-augmented truncation is a linearly-augmented truncation such that the augmentation distribution has its probability mass only on the last block column. We first derive an upper bound for the total variation distance between the respective stationary distribution vectors of the …
This paper presents a new matrix-infinite-product-form (MIP-form) solution for the stationary distribution in upper block-Hessenberg Markov chains (UBH-MCs). The existing MIP-form solution (Masuyama, Queueing Syst., Vol. 92, 2019, pp. 173--200) requires a certain parameter set that satisfies both a Foster-Lyapunov drift condition and a convergence condition. In contrast, the new MIP-form solution requires no such parameter sets and no other conditions. The new MIP-form solution also has "quasi-algorithmic constructibility", which is a newly introduced feature of being constructed by iterating …
By making full use of heat kernel estimates, we establish the integral tests on the zero-one laws of upper and lower bounds for the sample path ranges of symmetric Markov processes. In particular, these results concerning on upper rate bounds are applicable for local and non-local Dirichlet forms, while lower rate bounds are investigated in both subcritical setting and critical setting.
For a Markov process associated with a diffusion type Dirichlet form an upper bound is shown for the law of the finite dimensional distributions of the process. Under some more assumptions on the underlaying space this is also shown for the law of the Markov process itself. In the last section we want to give an application to the Wasserstein diffusion.
We study the limit behaviour of upper and lower bounds on expected time averages in imprecise Markov chains; a generalised type of Markov chain where the local dynamics, traditionally characterised by transition probabilities, are now represented by sets of `plausible' transition probabilities. Our first main result is a necessary and sufficient condition under which these upper and lower bounds, called upper and lower expected time averages, will converge as time progresses towards infinity to limit values that do not depend on the process' initial state. Our condition is considerably weaker …
We justify and discuss expressions for joint lower and upper expectations in imprecise probability trees, in terms of the sub- and supermartingales that can be associated with such trees. These imprecise probability trees can be seen as discrete-time stochastic processes with finite state sets and transition probabilities that are imprecise, in the sense that they are only known to belong to some convex closed set of probability measures. We derive various properties for their joint lower and upper expectations, and in particular a law of iterated expectations. We then focus on the special cas…
In this article, we study the asymptotic behaviour of Lévy processes with no positive jumps conditioned to stay positive. We establish integral tests for the lower envelope at 0 and at $+\infty$ and an analogue of Khintchin's law of the iterated logarithm at 0 and $+\infty$, for the upper envelope.
It is well known that Nash-type inequalities for symmetric Dirichlet forms are equivalent to on-diagonal heat kernel upper bounds for the associated symmetric Markov semigroups. In this paper, we show that both imply (and hence are equivalent to) off-diagonal heat kernel upper bounds under some mild assumptions. Our approach is based on a new generalized Davies' method. Our results extend that of \cite{CKS} for Nash-type inequalities with power order considerably and also extend that of \cite{Gri} for second order differential operators on a complete non-compact manifold.
A variational formula for the asymptotic variance of general Markov processes is obtained. As application, we get a upper bound of the mean exit time of reversible Markov processes, and some comparison theorems between the reversible and non-reversible diffusion processes.
This paper is dedicated to the investigation of a $1+1$ dimensional self-interacting and partially directed self-avoiding walk, usually referred to by the acronym IPDSAW and introduced in \cite{ZL68} by Zwanzig and Lauritzen to study the collapse transition of an homopolymer dipped in a poor solvant. In \cite{POBG93}, physicists displayed numerical results concerning the typical growth rate of some geometric features of the path as its length $L$ diverges. From this perspective the quantities of interest are the projections of the path onto the horizontal axis (also called horizontal extension…
We are interested by the rate of growth of increasing positive self-similar Markov processes (ipssMp) such that the subordinator associated to it via Lamperti's transformation has infinite mean. We prove that the logarithm of an ipssMp normalized by the logarithm of the time converges weakly, as the time tends to infinity, if and only if the Laplace exponent of the underlying subordinator is regularly varying at zero. Moreover, we prove that the regular variation at zero of the Laplace exponent is essentially nasc for the existence of a function that normalizes the logarithm of an ipssMp. We o…
We study Markov processes conditioned so that their local time must grow slower than a prescribed function. Building upon recent work on Brownian motion with constrained local time in [5] and [33], we study transience and recurrence for a broad class of Markov processes. In order to understand the distribution of the local time, we determine the distribution of a non-decreasing Lévy process (the inverse local time) conditioned to remain above a given level which varies in time. We study a time-dependent region, in contrast to previous works in which a process is conditioned to remain in a fixe…
We investigate the local times of a continuous-time Markov chain on an arbitrary discrete state space. For fixed finite range of the Markov chain, we derive an explicit formula for the joint density of all local times on the range, at any fixed time. We use standard tools from the theory of stochastic processes and finite-dimensional complex calculus. We apply this formula in the following directions: (1) we derive large deviation upper estimates for the normalized local times beyond the exponential scale, (2) we derive the upper bound in Varadhan's \chwk{l}emma for any measurable functional o…
We consider almost upper semi-continuous processes defined on a finite Markov chain. The distributions of the functionals associated with the exit from a finite interval are studied. We also consider some modification of these processes.
A transition matrix $[U_{i,j}]_{i,j\geq 0}$ on $\mathbb{N}$ is said to be almost upper triangular if $U_{i,j}\geq 0\Rightarrow j\geq i-1$, so that the increments of the corresponding Markov chains are at least $-1$; a transition matrix $[L_{i,j}]_{i,j\geq 0}$ is said to be almost lower triangular if $L_{i,j}\geq 0\Rightarrow j\leq i+1$, and then, the increments of the corresponding Markov chains are at most $+1$. In the present paper, we characterize the recurrence, positive recurrence and invariant distribution for the class of almost triangular transition matrices. The upper case appears to …
The article is devoted to the estimation of the rate of convergence of integral functionals of a Markov process. Under the assumption that the given Markov process admits a transition probability density which is differentiable in $t$ and the derivative has an integrable upper bound of a certain type, we derive the accuracy rates for strong and weak approximations of the functionals by Riemannian sums. Some examples are provided.
In this paper, when a given symmetric Markov process X satisfies the stability of global heat kernel two-sided (upper) estimates by Markov perturbations, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the stability of global two-sided (upper) estimates for fundamental solution of Feynman-Kac semigroup of X. As a corollary, under the same assumptions, a weak type global two-sided (upper) estimates holds for the fundamental solution of Feynman-Kac semigroup with (extended) Kato class conditions for measures. This generalizes all known results on the stability of global integral kernel estimates…
We provide a general framework for computing upper bounds on mixing times of finite Markov chains when its minimal ideal is left zero. Our analysis is based on combining results by Brown and Diaconis with our previous work on stationary distributions of finite Markov chains. Stationary distributions can be computed from the Karnofsky--Rhodes and McCammond expansion of the right Cayley graph of the finite semigroup underlying the Markov chain. Using loop graphs, which are planar graphs consisting of a straight line with attached loops, there are rational expressions for the stationary distribut…
Consideration is given to the three different analytical methods for the computation of upper bounds for the rate of convergence to the limiting regime of one specific class of (in)homogeneous continuous-time Markov chains. This class is particularly suited to describe evolutions of the total number of customers in (in)homogeneous $M/M/S$ queueing systems with possibly state-dependent arrival and service intensities, batch arrivals and services. One of the methods is based on the logarithmic norm of a linear operator function; the other two rely on Lyapunov functions and differential inequalit…
For a (non-symmetric) strong Markov process $X$, consider the Feynman--Kac semigroup \[T_t^Af(x):=\mathbb {E}^x\bigl[e^{A_t}f(X_t)\bigr],\quad x\in {\mathbb {R}^n}, t>0,\] where $A$ is a continuous additive functional of $X$ associated with some signed measure. Under the assumption that $X$ admits a transition probability density that possesses upper and lower bounds of certain type, we show that the kernel corresponding to $T_t^A$ possesses the density $p_t^A(x,y)$ with respect to the Lebesgue measure and construct upper and lower bounds for $p_t^A(x,y)$. Some examples are provided.
Generalization of the Lorden's inequality is an excellent tool for obtaining strong upper bounds for the convergence rate for various complicated stochastic models. This paper demonstrates a method for obtaining such bounds for some generalization of the Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP). The proposed method can be applied to reliability and queuing theory.
Consider a one-sided Markov additive process with an upper and a lower barrier, where each can be either reflecting or terminating. For both defective and non-defective processes and all possible scenarios we identify the corresponding potential measures, which generalizes a number of results for one-sided Levy processes. The resulting rather neat formulas have various applications, and in particular they lead to quasi-stationary distributions of the corresponding processes.
Asymptotic expansions with explicit upper bounds for remainders are given for stationary distributions of nonlinearly perturbed semi-Markov processes with finite phase spaces. The corresponding algorithms are based on a special technique of sequential phase space reduction, which can be applied to processes with an arbitrary asymptotic communicative structure of phase spaces.

In this paper we find nonasymptotic exponential upper bounds for the deviation in the ergodic theorem for families of homogeneous Markov processes. We find some sufficient conditions for geometric ergodicity uniformly over a parametric family. We apply this property to the nonasymptotic nonparametric estimation problem for ergodic diffusion processes.

We use standard tools from the theory of stochastic processes and finite-dimensional complex calculus. We apply this formula in the following directions: (1) we derive large deviation upper estimates for the normalized local times beyond the exponential scale, (2) we derive the upper bound in Varadhan's lemma for any measurable functional of the l…
The celebrated Littlewood-Offord problem asks for an upper bound on the probability that the random variable $ε_1 v_1 + \cdots + ε_n v_n$ lies in the Euclidean unit ball, where $ε_1, \ldots, ε_n \in \{-1, 1\}$ are independent Rademacher random variables and $v_1, \ldots, v_n \in \mathbb{R}^d$ are fixed vectors of at least unit length. We extend many known results to the case that the $ε_i$ are obtained from a Markov chain, including the general bounds first shown by Erdős in the scalar case and Kleitman in the vector case, and also under the restriction that the $v_i$ are distinct integers due …
This paper demonstrates a lower and upper solution method to investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the conservative reaction-diffusion systems associated with Markovian process algebra models. In particular, we have proved the uniform convergence of the solution to its constant equilibrium for a case study as time tends to infinity, together with experimental results illustrations.
