This paper sketches a technique for improving the rate of convergence of a general oscillatory sequence, and then applies this series acceleration algorithm to the polylogarithm and the Hurwitz zeta function. As such, it may be taken as an extension of the techniques given by Borwein's "An efficient algorithm for computing the Riemann zeta function", to more general series. The algorithm provides a rapid means of evaluating Li_s(z) for general values of complex s and the region of complex z values given by |z^2/(z-1)|<4.
Alternatively, the Hurwitz zeta can be very rapidly evaluated by means of an Euler-Maclaurin series. The polylogarithm and the Hurwitz zeta are related, in that two evaluations of the one can be used to obtain a value of the other; thus, either algorithm can be used to evaluate either function. The Euler-Maclaurin series is a clear performance winner for the Hurwitz zeta, while the Borwein algorithm is superior for evaluating the polylogarithm in the kidney-shaped region. Both algorithms are superior to the simple Taylor's series or direct summation.
The primary, concrete result of this paper is an algorithm allows the exploration of the Hurwitz zeta in the critical strip, where fast algorithms are otherwise unavailable. A discussion of the monodromy group of the polylogarithm is included.
We obtain a new proof of Hurwitz's formula for the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s, a)$ beginning with Hermite's formula. The aim is to reveal a nice connection between $ζ(s, a)$ and a special case of the Lommel function $S_{μ, ν}(z)$. This connection is used to rephrase a modular-type transformation involving infinite series of Hurwitz zeta function in terms of those involving Lommel functions.
The definition for the $p$-adic Hurwitz-type Euler zeta functions has been given by using the fermionic $p$-adic integral on $\mathbb Z_p$. By computing the values of this kind of $p$-adic zeta function at negative integers, we show that it interpolates the Euler polynomials $p$-adically. Many properties are provided for the $p$-adic Hurwitz-type Euler zeta functions, including the convergent Laurent series expansion, the distribution formula, the functional equation, the reflection formula, the derivative formula, the $p$-adic Raabe formula and so on. The definition for the $p$-adic Euler $L$…
The Hurwitz-type Euler zeta function is defined as a deformation of the Hurwitz zeta function: \begin{equation*} ζ_E(s,x)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty\frac{(-1)^n}{(n+x)^s}. \end{equation*} In this paper, by using the method of Fourier expansions, we shall evaluate several integrals with integrands involving Hurwitz-type Euler zeta functions $ζ_E(s,x)$. Furthermore, the relations between the values of a class of the Hurwitz-type (or Lerch-type) Euler zeta functions at rational arguments have also been given.
We find a representation for the Maclaurin coefficients of the Hurwitz zeta-function in terms of semi-convergent series involving the Bernoulli polynomials and the Stirling numbers of the first kind. In particular, this gives a representation for the coefficients of the Riemann zeta function. Our main instrument is a certain series transformation formula. A similar result is proved also for the Maclaurin coefficients of the Lerch zeta function.
In this paper we establish a new summation method by expanding $\prod_{k}(1-\frac{z}{a_{k}})^{-1}$ with two approaches: the Taylor expansion and the infinite partial fraction decomposition. Here we focus on the case when $a_{k}$ is arithmetic sequence. By this summation we obtain many equalities involve Hurwitz zeta function and Gammma function.
We present several formulae for the large-$t$ asymptotics of the modified Hurwitz zeta function $ζ_1(x,s),x>0,s=σ+it,0<σ\leq1,t>0,$ which are valid to all orders. In the case of $x=0$, these formulae reduce to the asymptotic expressions recently obtained for the Riemann zeta function, which include the classical results of Siegel as a particular case.
We consider some closed-form evaluations of certain infinite sums involving the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s,α)$ of the form \[\sum_{k=1}^\infty (\pm 1)^k k^m ζ(s,k),\] where $m$ is a non-negative integer. For the sums with $m=0$ and the argument $k$ in $ζ(s,k)$ replaced by $ka+b$, where $a$ and $b$ are positive parameters, we also obtain a transformation formula suitable for computation in the limit $a\to0$.
We introduce a new technique for evaluation of series with zeta coefficients and also for evaluation of certain integrals involving the logGamma function. This technique is based on Hankel integral representations of the Hurwitz zeta, the Lerch Zeta, the Digamma and logGamma functions.
The relationship between the Ohno relation and multiple polylogarithms are discussed. Using this relationship, the algebraic reduction of the Ohno relation is given.
We establish a series of integral formulae involving the Hurwitz zeta function. Applications are given to integrals of Bernoulli polynomials, log Gamma(q) and log sin(q).
The main aim of this paper is to give a new generalization of Hurwitz-Lerch Zeta function of two variables. Also, we investigate several interesting properties such as integral representations, summation formula and a connection with generalized hypergeometric function. To strengthen the main results we also consider many important special cases.
The main objective of this paper is to introduce a new extension of Hurwitz-Lerch Zeta function in terms of extended beta function. We then investigate its important properties such as integral representations, differential formulas, Mellin transform and certain generating relations. Also, some important special cases of the main results are pointed out.
We describe a solution of the Gauss hypergeometric equation, $F(α,β,γ;z)$ by power series in paramaters $α,β,γ$ whose coefficients are $\Z$ linear combinations of multiple polylogarithms. And using the representation and connection reletions of solutions of the hypergeometric equation, we show some relations of multiple zeta values.
Using methods of weight functions, techniques of real analysis as well as the Hermite-Hadamard inequality, a half-discrete Hardy-Hilbert-type inequality with multi-parameters and a best possible constant factor related to the Hurwitz zeta function and the Riemann zeta function is obtained. Equivalent forms, normed operator expressions, their reverses and some particular cases are also considered.
We consider two integrals over $x\in [0,1]$ involving products of the function $ζ_1(a,x)\equiv ζ(a,x)-x^{-a}$, where $ζ(a,x)$ is the Hurwitz zeta function, given by $$\int_0^1ζ_1(a,x)ζ_1(b,x)\,dx\quad\mbox{and}\quad \int_0^1ζ_1(a,x)ζ_1(b,1-x)\,dx$$ when $\Re (a,b)>1$. These integrals have been investigated recently in \cite{SCP}; here we provide an alternative derivation by application of Feynman parametrization. We also discuss a moment integral and the evaluation of two doubly infinite sums containing the Riemann zeta function $ζ(x)$ and two free parameters $a$ and $b$. The limiting forms of…
In this paper, we reconsider the large-$a$ asymptotic expansion of the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s,a)$. New representations for the remainder term of the asymptotic expansion are found and used to obtain sharp and realistic error bounds. Applications to the asymptotic expansions of the polygamma functions, the gamma function, the Barnes $G$-function and the $s$-derivative of the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s,a)$ are provided. A detailed discussion on the sharpness of our error bounds is also given.
We establish a series of indefinite integral formulae involving the Hurwitz zeta function and other elementary and special functions related to it, such as the Bernoulli polynomials, ln sin (πq), ln Gamma(q) and the polygamma functions. Many of the results are most conveniently formulated in terms of a family of functions A_k(q):=k zeta'(1-k,q), where k is a natural number, and a family of polygamma functions of negative order, whose properties we study in some detail.
In 1900, at the international congress of mathematicians, Hilbert claimed that the Riemann zeta function $ζ(s)$ is not the solution of any algebraic ordinary differential equations on its region of analyticity. In 2015, Van Gorder considered the question of whether $ζ(s)$ satisfies a non-algebraic differential equation and showed that it formally satisfies an infinite order linear differential equation. Recently, Prado and Klinger-Logan extended Van Gorder's result to show that the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s,a)$ is also formally satisfies a similar differential equation \begin{equation*}\label…
Dating back to Euler, in classical analysis and number theory, the Hurwitz zeta function $$ ζ(z,q)=\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}\frac{1}{(n+q)^{z}}, $$ the Riemann zeta function $ζ(z)$, the generalized Stieltjes constants $γ_k(q)$, the Euler constant $γ$, Euler's gamma function $Γ(q)$ and the digamma function $ψ(q)$ have many close connections on their definitions and properties. There are also many integrals, series or infinite product representations of them along the history. In this note, we try to provide a parallel story for the alternating Hurwitz zeta function (also known as the Hurwitz-type Eul…
Integrals involving the kernel function $sech (πx)$ over a semi-infinite range are of general interest in the study of Riemann's function $ζ(s)$ and Hurwitz' function $ζ(s,a)$. Such integrals that include the $arctan$ and $log$ functions in the integrand are evaluated here in terms of $ζ(s,a)$, thereby adding some new members to a known family of related integrals. A claimed connection between $ζ(s)$ of odd integer argument and such integrals is verified.
We evaluate two integrals over $x\in [0,1]$ involving products of the function $ζ_1(a,x)\equiv ζ(a,x)-x^{-a}$ for $\Re (a)>1$, where $ζ(a,x)$ is the Hurwitz zeta function. The evaluation of these integrals for the particular case of integer $a\geq 2$ is also presented. As an application we calculate the $O(g)$ weak-coupling expansion coefficient $c_{1}(\varepsilon)$ of the Casimir energy for a film with Dirichlet-Dirichlet boundary conditions, first stated by Symanzik [Schrödinger representation and Casimir effect in renormalizable quantum field theory, Nucl. Phys. B 190 (1981) 1-44] in the fr…
The behaviour of real zeroes of the Hurwitz zeta function $$ζ(s,a)=\sum_{r=0}^{\infty}(a+r)^{-s}\qquad\qquad a > 0$$ is investigated. It is shown that $ζ(s,a)$ has no real zeroes $(s=σ,a)$ in the region $a >\frac{-σ}{2πe}+\frac{1}{4πe}\log (-σ) +1$ for large negative $σ$. In the region $0 < a < \frac{-σ}{2πe}$ the zeroes are asymptotically located at the lines $σ+ 4a + 2m =0$ with integer $m$. If $N(p)$ is the number of real zeroes of $ζ(-p,a)$ with given $p$ then $$\lim_{p\to\infty}\frac{N(p)}{p}=\frac{1}{πe}.$$ As a corollary we have a simple proof of Inkeri's result that the number of real …
The sum formula for multiple zeta values are derived, via the Mellin transform, from the Euler connection formula and the Landen connection formula for polylogarithms. These connection formulas for multiple polylogarithms will be considered in the framework of the theory of the formal Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation.
We survey various results and conjectures concerning multiple polylogarithms and the multiple zeta function. Among the results, we announce our resolution of several conjectures on multiple zeta values. We also provide a new integral representation for the general multiple polylogarithm, and develop a q-analogue of the shuffle product.
In this paper we derive two expressions for the Hurwitz zeta function involving the complete Bell polynomials in the restricted case where q is a positive integer greater than 1. The arguments of the complete Bell polynomials comprise the generalised harmonic number functions. These in turn give rise to Euler-Hurwitz series which may then be used to determine identities for combinations of both linear and non-linear Euler sums.
The exponentially improved large-$a$ expansion for the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(s,a)$ is exploited to examine the expansion of the periodic zeta function $F(a,s)$ in the upper half-plane of the variable $a$. It is shown that a double Stokes phenomenon takes place in the vicinity of the positive imaginary $a$-axis as $|a|\ra\infty$. This is a consequence of the fact that constituent parts of $F(a,s)$ involve two Hurwitz zeta functions resulting in two parallel Stokes lines at unit distance apart. Numerical calculations confirm the theoretical predictions.
The special values of multiple polylogarithms, which including multiple zeta values, appear some fields of mathematics and physics. Many kinds of their linear relations are investigated as well as their algebraic relations. From the viewpoint of a connection matrix of Fuchsian equations, we derive two kinds of duality of these values.
We establish the triple integral evaluation \[ \int_{1}^{\infty} \int_{0}^{1} \int_{0}^{1} \frac{dz \, dy \, dx}{x(x+y)(x+y+z)} = \frac{5}{24} ζ(3), \] as well as the equivalent polylogarithmic double sum \[ \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} \sum_{j=k}^{\infty} \frac{(-1)^{k-1}}{k^{2}} \, \frac{1}{j \, 2^{j}} = \frac{13}{24} ζ(3). \] This double sum is related to, but less approachable than, similar sums studied by Ramanujan. It is also reminiscent of Euler's formula $ζ(2,1) = ζ(3)$, which is the simplest instance of duality of multiple polylogarithms. We review this duality and apply it to derive a compani…
