For each element of certain families of integer sequences, we study the term-wise ratios of the Hankel transforms of three sequences related to that element by series reversion. In each case, the ratios define well-known sequences, and in one case, we recover the initial sequence.
We prove a few new properties of a Hankel transform related to limited series expansions. This preprint superseed the preprint math.CO/0303221 of the first author.
We study Hankel transforms of sequences, where the transform elements are members of the set {-1,0,1}. We relate these Hankel transforms to special continued fraction expansions. In particular, we posit a conjecture relating the distribution of non-zero terms in the Hankel transform to the distribution of powers of the variable in the defining continued fractions.
In this paper, the Hankel transform of the generalized q-exponential polynomial of the first form (q, r)-Whitney numbers of the second kind is established using the method of Cigler. Consequently, the Hankel transform of the first form (q, r)-Dowling numbers is obtained as special case.
We study the Hankel transforms of sequences related to the central coefficients of a family of Pascal-like triangles. The mechanism of Riordan arrays is used to elucidate the structure of these transforms.
We give an explicit formula for the Hankel transform of a regular sequence in terms of the coefficients of the associated orthogonal polynomials and the sequence itself. We apply this formula to some sequences of combinatorial interest, deriving interesting combinatorial identities by this means. Further insight is also gained into the structure of the Hankel transform of a sequence.
In the case of two combinatorial polynomials, we show that they can exhibited as moments of paramaterized families of orthogonal polynomials, and hence derive their Hankel transforms. Exponential Riordan arrays are the main vehicles used for this.
We provide a context around a conjectured closed form for the Hankel transform of linear combinations of consecutive pairs of Catalan numbers. This generalizes the formula for the Hankel transforms of the shifted Catalan numbers and the known results for linear combinations of pairs of Catalan numbers. Many interesting number triangles emerge, some of which we analyze using the language of Riordan arrays.
Taking the examples of Legendre and Hermite orthogonal polynomials, we show how to interpret the fact that these orthogonal polynomials are moments of other orthogonal polynomials in terms of their associated Riordan arrays. We use these means to calculate the Hankel transforms of the associated polynomial sequences.
The Hankel transform of an integer sequence is a much studied and much applied mathematical operation. In this note, we extend the notion in a natural way to sequences of $d$ integer sequences. We explore links to generalized continued fractions in the context of $d$-orthogonal sequences.
We study the generalized Hankel transform of the family of sequences satisfying the recurrence relation $a_{n+1} = \bigl(α+ \fracβ{n+γ}\bigr) a_n$. We apply the obtained formula to several particular important sequences. Incidentally, we find a connection between some well known formulas that had previously arisen in literature in dissimilar settings. Additionally, given a non-zero sequence satisfying the above recurrence, we evaluate the Hankel transform of the sequence of its reciprocals.
Using ordinary and exponential generating functions, we explore the reversion of power series defined by $2$nd order recurrences. We express the reversions in terms of Jacobi and Thron continued fractions. We find relations with Eulerian expressions using a transformation of continued fractions.
A $q$-analogue of $r$-Whitney numbers of the second kind, denoted by $W_{m,r}[n,k]_q$, is defined by means of a triangular recurrence relation. In this paper, several fundamental properties for the $q$-analogue are established including other forms of recurrence relations, explicit formulas and generating functions. Moreover, a kind of Hankel transform for $W_{m,r}[n,k]_q$ is obtained.

Starting with a definition based on the Catalan numbers, we carry out an empirical study of the Rueppel sequence. We use the Hankel transform as the main technique. By means of this transform we find links to such sequences as the Jacobi sequence and the paper-folding sequence. We also study several number arrays defined by this sequence, which are analogs of the important Catalan triangles of combinatorics. We identify a sequence related to the Golay-Rudin-Shapiro sequence that plays a fundamental role in linking the Hankel transforms of the paper with classical sequences. Examples are given …
By considering the fundamental equation $x=y-y^2=z-z^3$, Somos conjectured that the Hankel determinants for the generating series $y(z)$ are the Somos-4 numbers. We prove this conjecture by using the quadratic transformation for Hankel determinants of Sulanke and Xin.
We study the Hankel transforms of sequences whose generating function can be expressed as a C-fraction. In particular, we relate the index sequence of the non-zero terms of the Hankel transform to the powers appearing in the monomials defining the C-fraction. A closed formula for the Hankel transforms studied is given. As every power-series can be represented by a C-fraction, this gives in theory a closed form formula for the Hankel transform of any sequence. The notion of multiplicity is introduced to differentiate between Hankel transforms.
We discuss the properties of the Hankel transformation of a sequence whose elements are the sums of consecutive generalized Catalan numbers and find their values in the closed form.
We define a transformation that associates certain exponential moment sequences with ordinary moment sequences in a natural way. The ingredients of this transformation are series reversion, the Sumudu transform (a variant of the Laplace transform), and the inverting of generating functions. This transformation also has a simple interpretation in terms of continued fractions. It associates lattice path objects with permutation objects, and in particular it associates the Narayana triangle with the Eulerian triangle.
In this note we use the analogy between the Catalan sequence and the Rueppel sequence to derive a variety of conjectures surrounding the Hankel transforms of a number of sequences closely related to the Rueppel sequence. Use is made of the representation of suitable generating functions by Stieltjes continued fractions. We define polynomial sequences by introducing parameters that define generalized Rueppel sequences, and we show that such polynomials have coefficient arrays that are Riordan arrays. Finally we conjecture the form of a product of Hankel transforms arising from the Rueppel seque…
We give conjectures on the form of families of integer sequences whose Hankel transforms are, respectively, $(α, β)$ Somos $4$ sequences, $(α, 0, γ)$ Somos $6$ sequences, and $(α, β, γ, δ)$ Somos $8$ sequences, for particular values of $α$, $β$, $γ$, $δ$ which we describe. The sequences involved can be described in terms of the application of certain stretched Riordan arrays to the Catalan numbers, accompanied by a (sequence) Hankel transform. The combination of Riordan array and the Catalan numbers results from the study of certain generalized Jacobi continued fractions, based on the Counting…

In this note, we explore certain determinantal descriptions of the Robbins numbers. Techniques used for this include continued fractions, Riordan arrays and series inversion. Proven and conjectured representations involve the determinants of both Hankel and symmetric matrices. In specific cases, links are drawn to centered polygonal numbers, and to heptagons and nonagons. We conjecture a Hankel transform determinant for the Robbins numbers related to the Fibonacci and the Catalan numbers.
We use the concept of the half of a lower-triangular matrix to define a transformation on integer sequences. We explore the properties of this transformation, including in some cases a study of the Hankel transform of the transformed sequences. Starting from simple sequences with elementary rational generating functions, we obtain many sequences of combinatorial significance. We make extensive use of techniques drawn from the theory of Riordan arrays.
Using the language of Riordan arrays, we study a one-parameter family of orthogonal polynomials that we call the restricted Chebyshev-Boubaker polynomials. We characterize these polynomials in terms of the three term recurrences that they satisfy, and we study certain central sequences defined by their coefficient arrays. We give an integral representation for their moments, and we show that the Hankel transforms of these moments have a simple form. We show that the (sequence) Hankel transform of the row sums of the corresponding moment matrix is defined by a family of polynomials closely rela…
Using the theory of exponential Riordan arrays and orthogonal polynomials, we demonstrate that the "descending power" Eulerian polynomials, and their once shifted sequence, are moment sequences for simple families of orthogonal polynomials, which we characterize in terms of their three-term recurrence. We obtain the generating functions of the polynomial sequences in terms of continued fractions, and we also calculate their Hankel transforms.
