We discuss $p$-adic unipotent Albanese maps for curves of positive genus, extending the theory of $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms. This construction is then used to relate linear Diophantine conjectures of `Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer type' to non-linear theorems of Faltings-Siegel type.
We prove a certain transcendence property of the unipotent Albanese map of a smooth variety, conditional on the Ax-Schanuel conjecture for variations of mixed Hodge structure. We introduce an Albanese variety Alb(X, D) of X of modulus D as a higher dimensional analogon of the generalized Jacobian of Rosenlicht-Serre with modulus for smooth proper curves. We investigate properties of the Albanese map and the fundamental group of a complex projective variety with many rational points over some function field, and prove that every linear quotient of the fundamental group of such a variety is virtually abelian, as well as that its Albanese map is surjective, has connected fibres, and has no multiple fibres in codimension one.
We present a conjectural formula describing the cokernel of the Albanese map of zero-cycles of smooth projective varieties $X$ over $p$-adic fields in terms of the Néron-Severi group and provide a proof under additional assumptions on an integral model of $X$. The proof depends on a non-degeneracy result of Brauer-Manin pairing due to Saito-Sato and on Gabber-de Jong's comparison result of cohomological- and Azumaya-Brauer groups. It is a theorem of Kim-Tamagawa that the $\mathbb Q_\ell$-pro-unipotent Kummer map associated to a smooth projective curve $Y$ over a finite extension of $\mathbb Q_p$ is locally constant when $\ell\neq p$. The present paper establishes two generalisations of this result. Firstly, we extend the Kim-Tamagawa Theorem to the case that $Y$ is a smooth variety of any dimension. We study the Galois action on paths in the $\mathbb{Q}_\ell$-pro-unipotent étale fundamental groupoid of a hyperbolic curve $X$ over a $p$-adic field with $\ell\neq p$.
