In this paper we study the set of functions $\GG$-valued which can be approximated by $\GG$-valued continuous functions in the norm $L^\infty_{\GG}(I,w)$, where $I$ is a compact interval, $\GG$ is a real and separable Hilbert space and $w$ is certain $\GG$-valued weakly measurable weight. Thus, we obtain a new extension of celebrated Weierstrass approximation theorem.
We consider alternative orders of summation for the conditionally convergent series defining the weight-2 Eisenstein series G2 and the Weierstrass p-function. The resulting sums differ from the standard ones by a residual term that can be thought of as a function of the shapes with respect to which we sum. We compute this residual function explicitly and give some examples. The results generalize the well-known quasimodularity relationship between G2 and its series summed in the reverse order.
We characterize the Hilbert--Schmidt class membership of commutator with the Hilbert transform in the two weight setting. The characterization depends upon the symbol of the commutator being in a new weighted Besov space. This follows from a Schatten class $S_p$ result for dyadic paraproducts, where $1< p < \infty $. We discuss the difficulties in extending the dyadic result to the full range of Schatten classes for the Hilbert transform.
We characterize the compactness of composition operators; in term of generalized Nevanlinna counting functions, on a large class of Hilbert spaces of analytic functions, which can be viewed between the Bergman and the Dirichlet spaces
The two-weight inequality for the Hilbert transform is characterized for an arbitrary pair of positive Radon measures $σ$ and $w$ on $\mathbb R$. In particular, the possibility of common point masses is allowed, lifting a restriction from the recent solution of the two-weight problem by Lacey, Sawyer, Shen and Uriarte-Tuero. Our characterization is in terms of Sawyer-type testing conditions and a variant of the two-weight $A_2$ condition, where $σ$ and $w$ are integrated over complementary intervals only. A key novely of the proof is a two-weight inequality for the Poisson integral with `holes…
We prove that the operator norm on weighted Lebesgue space L2(w) of the commutators of the Hilbert, Riesz and Beurling transforms with a BMO function b depends quadratically on the A2-characteristic of the weight, as opposed to the linear dependence known to hold for the operators themselves. It is known that the operator norms of these commutators can be controlled by the norm of the commutator with appropriate Haar shift operators, and we prove the estimate for these commutators. For the shift operator corresponding to the Hilbert transform we use Bellman function methods, however there is n…
We consider the two weight problem for the Hilbert transform, namely the question of finding real-variable characterization of those pair of weights for which the Hilbert transform acts boundedly on $ L ^2 $ of the weights. Such a characterization is known subject to certain side conditions. We give a new proof, simpler in many details, of the best such result. In addition, we analyze underlying assumptions in the proof, especially in terms of two alternate side conditions. A new characterization in the case of one doubling weight is given.
We show sufficient conditions on matrix weights $U$ and $V$ for the martingale transforms to be uniformly bounded from $L^2(V)$ to $L^2(U)$. We also show that these conditions imply the uniform boundedness of the dyadic shifts as well as the boundedness of the Hilbert transform between these spaces.
Final representation of all those measures $μ$ for which algebraic polynomials are dense in $L_p(R, dμ)$ is found. The weighted analogue of the Weierstrass polynomial approximation theorem and a new version of the M. Krein's theorem about partial fraction decomposition of reciprocal of an entire function are established.
We obtain a two weight local Tb theorem for any elliptic and gradient elliptic fractional singular integral operator T on the real line, and any pair of locally finite positive Borel measures on the line. This includes the Hilbert transform and in a sense improves on the T1 theorem by the authors and M. Lacey.
Recent work of Lacey-Sawyer-Shen-Uriarte-Tuero and Lacey have established a conjecture of Nazarov-Treil-Volberg, giving a real-variable characterization of the two weight inequality for the Hilbert transform, provided the pair of weights do not share a common point mass. In this paper, the characterization is proved, collecting details from across several papers, compactness is characterized, all relevant estimates are proved, counterexamples are details, and areas of application are indicated.
Let $W$ denote a matrix $A_2$ weight. In this paper, we implement a scalar argument using the square function to deduce square-function type results for vector-valued functions in $L^2(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{C}^d)$. These results are then used to study the boundedness of the Hilbert transform and Haar multipliers on $L^2(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{C}^d)$. Our proof shortens the original argument by Treil and Volberg and improves the dependence on the $A_2$ characteristic. In particular, we prove that the Hilbert transform and Haar multipliers map $L^2(\mathbb{R},W,\mathbb{C}^d)$ to itself with dependence …
A conjecture of Nazarov--Treil--Volberg on the two weight inequality for the Hilbert transform is verified. Given two non-negative Borel measures u and w on the real line, the Hilbert transform $H_u$ maps $L^2(u)$ to $L^2(w)$ if and only if the pair of measures of satisfy a Poisson $A_2$ condition, and dual collections of testing conditions, uniformly over all intervals. This strengthens a prior characterization of Lacey-Sawyer-Shen-Uriate-Tuero arxiv:1201.4319. The latter paper includes a `Global to Local' reduction. This article solves the Local problem.
The two weight inequality for the Hilbert transform arises in the settings of analytic function spaces, operator theory, and spectral theory, and what would be most useful is a characterization in the simplest real-variable terms. We show that the $L^2$ to $L^2$ inequality holds if and only if two L^2 to weak-L^2 inequalities hold. This is a corollary to a characterization in terms of a two-weight Poisson inequality, and a pair of testing inequalities on bounded functions.
Subject to a range of side conditions, the two weight inequality for the Hilbert transform is characterized in terms of (1) a Poisson A_2 condition on the weights (2) A forward testing condition, in which the two weight inequality is tested on intervals (3) and a backwards testing condition, dual to (2). A critical new concept in the proof is an Energy Condition, which incorporates information about the distribution of the weights in question inside intervals. This condition is a consequence of the three conditions above. The Side Conditions are termed 'Energy Hypotheses'. At one endpoint they…
Classically, a single weight on an interval of the real line leads to moments, orthogonal polynomials and tridiagonal matrices. Appropriately deforming this weight with times t=(t_1,t_2,...), leads to the standard Toda lattice and tau-functions, expressed as Hermitian matrix integrals. This paper is concerned with a sequence of t-perturbed weights, rather than one single weight. This sequence leads to moments, polynomials and a (fuller) matrix evolving according to the discrete KP-hierarchy. The associated tau-functions have integral, as well as vertex operator representations. Among the examp…
We study asymptotics of the recurrence coefficients of orthogonal polynomials associated to the generalized Jacobi weight, which is a weight function with a finite number of algebraic singularities on $[-1,1]$. The recurrence coefficients can be written in terms of the solution of the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem for orthogonal polynomials. Using the steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou, we analyze the Riemann-Hilbert problem, and obtain complete asymptotic expansions of the recurrence coefficients. We will determine explicitly the order $1/n$ terms in the expansions. A critical …
