The authors consider stochastic aspects of the stabilization problem for two and three-dimensional Oseen equations with help of feedback control defined on a part of the fluid boundary. Stochastic issues arise when inevitable unpredictable fluctuations in numerical realization of stabilization procedures are taken into account and they are supposed to be independent identically distributed random variables. Under this assumption the solution to the stabilization problem obtained via boundary feedback control can be described by a Markov chain or a discrete random dynamical system. It is shown that this random dynamical system possesses a unique, exponentially attracting, invariant measure, namely, this random dynamical system is ergodic. This gives adequate statistical description of the stabilization process on the stage when stabilized solution has to be retained near zero (i.e. near unstable state of equilibrium).
This work is devoted to the stabilization of parabolic systems with a finite-dimensional control subjected to a constant delay. Our main result shows that the Fattorini-Hautus criterion yields the existence of such a feedback control, as in the case of stabilization without delay. The proof consists in splitting the system into a finite dimensional unstable part and a stable infinite-dimensional part and to apply the Artstein transformation on the finite-dimensional system to remove the delay in the control. Using our abstract result, we can prove new results for the stabilization of parabolic…
The present paper develops boundary output-feedback stabilization of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation with sensors and an actuator located at different boundaries (anti collocated set-up) using backstepping method. The feedback control law and output injection gains are found using the backstepping method for linear KdV equation. The proof of stability is based on construction of a strict Lyapunov functional which includes the observer states. A numerical simulation is presented to validate the result.
In this paper we consider second order evolution equations with unbounded dynamic feedbacks. Under a regularity assumption we show that observability properties for the undamped problem imply decay estimates for the damped problem. We consider both uniform and non uniform decay properties.
In this paper we consider a boundary stabilization problem for the wave equation with interior delay. We prove an exponential stability result under some Lions geometric condition. The proof of the main result is based on an identity with multipliers that allows to obtain a uniform decay estimate for a suitable Lyapunov functional.
This paper presents an output feedback control law for the Korteweg-de Vries equation. The control design is based on the backstepping method and the introduction of an appropriate observer. The local exponential stability of the closed-loop system is proven. Some numerical simulations are shown to illustrate this theoretical result.
We study the problem of global exponential stabilization of original Burgers' equations and the Burgers' equation with nonlocal nonlinearities by controllers depending on finitely many parameters. It is shown that solutions of the controlled equations are steering a concrete solution of the non-controlled system as $t\rightarrow \infty$ with an exponential rate.
In this paper, we study the boundary feedback stabilization of a quasilinear hyperbolic system with partially dissipative structure. Thanks to this structure, we construct a suitable Lyapunov function which leads to the exponential stability to the equilibrium of the $H^2$ solution. As an application, we also obtain the feedback stabilization for the Saint-Venant-Exner model under physical boundary conditions.
In this paper we consider an interior stabilization problem for the wave equation with dynamic boundary delay. We prove some stability results under the choice of damping operator. The proof of the main result is based on a frequency domain method and combines a contradiction argument with the multiplier technique to carry out a special analysis for the resolvent.
In this paper, we study the output feedback stabilization for a scalar conservation law with a nonlocal velocity, that models a highly re-entrant manufacturing system as encountered in semi-conductor production. By spectral analysis, we obtain a complete result on the exponential stabilization for the linearized control system. Moreover, by using a Lyapunov function approach, we also prove the exponential stabilization results for the nonlinear control system in certain cases.
In this paper, we present output feedback boundary stabilization for a class of semilinear parabolic PDEs with a boundary measurement and an actuation located at the same place. The method uses backstepping transformations, where the state and error systems are proved to be locally exponentially stable in the $\mathbb{H}^4$ norm. The stability of the transformed systems are obtained by constructing a strict Lyapunov function. A numerical example using the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation shows the proposed control law stabilizes the system into its equilibrium solution.
In this paper we study the dynamic feedback stability for a simplified model of fluid-structure interaction on a tree. We prove that, under some conditions, the energy of the solutions of the system decay exponentially to zero when the time tends to infinity. Our technique is based on a frequency domain method and a special analysis for the resolvent.
We study the problem of stabilization for a class of evolution systems with fractional-damping. After writing the equations as an augmented system we prove in this article first that the problem is well posed. Second, using the LaSalle's invariance principle we show that the energy of the system is Strongly stable. Then, based on a resolvent approach we show a luck of uniform stabilization. Next, using multiplier techniques combined with the frequency domain method, we shall give a polynomially stabilization result under some consideration on the stabilization of an auxiliary dissipating syste…
In this paper we consider scalar conservation laws with a convex flux. Given a stationnary shock, we provide a feedback law acting at one boundary point such that this solution is now asymptotically stable in L 1-norm in the class of entropy solution.
We consider output-feedback stabilization problems for a class of two-component linear parabolic systems with boundary actuation and measurement. The state-feedback control laws are obtained using backstepping method and require measurement of the state at each point in the domain. To this end, backstepping observers are designed for both anti-collocated and collocated sensors and actuators. Furthermore, we show the closed-loop systems consisting of the plant, the backstepping control laws, and the observer is exponentially stable. The backstepping method is used to obtain both control and obs…
In this paper we will study the asymptotic behaviour of the energy decay of a transmission plate equation with force and moment feedback. Precisly, we shall prove that the energy decay at least logarithmically over the time. The method consist to use the classical second order Carleman estimate to estabish a resolvent estimate which provide by the famous Burq's result [Bur98] the kind of decay above mentionned.
We study a class of elastic systems described by a (hyperbolic) partial differential equation. Our working example is the equation of a vibrating string subject to linear disturbance. The main goal is to establish conditions for stabilization and asymptotic stabilization by applying a fast oscillating control to the string. In the first situation studied we assume that system is subject to a damping force; next we consider the system without damping. We extend the tools of high-order averaging and of chronological calculus for studying stability of this distributed parameter system.
In this paper, we study the stabilization problem for a food extrusion process in the isothermal case. The model expresses the mass conservation in the extruder chamber and consists of a hyperbolic Partial Differential Equation (PDE) and a nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equation (ODE) whose dynamics describes the evolution of a moving interface. By using a Lyapunov approach, we obtain the exponential stabilization for the closed-loop system under natural feedback controls through indirect measurements.
We study the exponential stabilization problem for a nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries equa- tion on bounded interval in cases where the linearized control system is not controllable. The system has Dirichlet boundary conditions at the end-points of the interval, a Neumann nonhomogeneous boundary condition at the right end-point which is the control. We build a class of time-varying feedback laws for which the solutions of the closed-loop systems with small initial data decay exponentially to 0. We present also results on the well-posedness of the closed-loop systems for general time-varying feedbac…
We propose a model using the Korteweg-de Vries $(KdV)$ equation on a finite star-shaped network. We first prove the well-posedness of the system and give some regularity results. Then we prove that the energy of the solutions of the dissipative system decays exponentially to zero when the time tends to infinity. Lastly we show an exact boundary controllability result.
Results of stabilization for the higher order of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation are presented in this manuscript. Precisely, we prove with two different approaches that under the presence of a damping mechanism and an internal delay term (anti-damping) the solutions of the Kawahara-Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation are locally and globally exponentially stable. The main novelty is that we present the optimal constant, as well as the minimal time, that ensures that the energy associated with this system goes to zero exponentially.
This article is concerned with the internal feedback stabilization of the phase field system of Cahn-Hilliard type, modeling the phase separation in a binary mixture. Under suitable assumptions on an arbitrarily fixed stationary solution, we construct via spectral separation arguments a feedback controller having the support in an arbitrary open subset of the space domain, such that the closed loop nonlinear system exponentially reach the prescribed stationary solution. This feedback controller has a finite dimensional structure in the state space of solutions. In particular, every constant st…
We consider N strings connected to one another and forming a particular network which is a chain of strings. We study a stabilization problem and precisley we prove that the energy of the solutions of the dissipative system decay exponentially to zero when the time tends to infinity, independently of the densities of the strings. Our technique is based on a frequency domain method and a special analysis for the resolvent. Moreover, by same appraoch, we study the transfert function associated to the chain of strings and the stability of the Schrödinger system.
In the first part of this article, we study feedback stabilization of a parabolic coupled system by using localized interior controls. The system is feedback stabilizable with exponential decay $-ω<0$ for any $ω>0$. A stabilizing control is found in feedback form by solving a suitable algebraic Riccati equation. In the second part, a conforming finite element method is employed to approximate the continuous system by a finite dimensional discrete system. The approximated system is also feedback stabilizable (uniformly) with exponential decay $-ω+ε$, for any $ε>0$ and the feedback control is ob…
This article is dedicated to the investigation of the stabilization problem of a flexible beam attached to the center of a rotating disk. We assume that the feedback law contains a nonlinear torque control applied on the disk and nonlinear boundary controls exerted on the beam. Thereafter, it is proved that the proposed controls guarantee the exponential stability of the system under a realistic smallness condition on the angular velocity of the disk and general assumptions on the nonlinear functions governing the controls. We used here the strategy of Lasiecka and Tataru and Alabau-Boussouira…
In this paper, we consider a Timoshenko system with a thermo-viscoelastic damping and a delay term in the internal feedback together with initial datum and boundary conditions of Dirichlet type, where g is a positive non-increasing relaxation function and μ1, μ2 are positive constants. Under an hypothesis between the weight of the delay term in the feedback and the the weight of the friction damping term, using the Faedo-Galerkin approximations together with some energy estimates, we prove the global existence of the solutions. Then, by introducing appropriate Lyapunov functionals, under the i…
In a gas transport system, the customer behavior is uncertain. Motivated by this situation, we consider a boundary stabilization problem for the flow through a gas pipeline, where the outflow at one end of the pipe that is governed by the customer's behavior is uncertain. The control action is located at the other end of the pipe. The feedback law is a classical Neumann velocity feedback with a feedback parameter $k>0$. We show that as long as the $H^1$-norm of the function that describes the noise in the customer's behavior decays exponentially with a rate that is sufficiently large, the velo…
This article concerns the nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries equation with boundary time-delay feedback. Under appropriate assumption on the coefficients of the feedbacks (delayed or not), we first prove that this nonlinear infinite dimensional system is well-posed for small initial data. The main results of our study are two theorems stating the exponential stability of the nonlinear time delay system. Two different methods are employed: a Lyapunov functional approach (allowing to have an estimation on the decay rate, but with a restrictive assumption on the length of the spatial domain of the KdV e…
The Jordan-Moore-Gibson-Thompson (JMGT)\cite{christov_heat_2005,jordan_nonlinear_2008,straughan_heat_2014} equation is a benchmark model describing propagation of nonlinear acoustic waves in heterogeneous fluids at rest. This is a third-order (in time) dynamics which accounts for a finite speed of propagation of heat signals (see \cite{coulouvrat_equations_1992,crighton_model_1979,jordan_nonlinear_2008,jordan_second-sound_2014,kaltenbacher_jordan-moore-gibson-thompson_2019}). In this paper, we study a boundary stabilization of linearized version (also known as MGT-equation) in the {\it critica…
In this article, global stabilization results for the two dimensional (2D) viscous Burgers' equation, that is, convergence of unsteady solution to its constant steady state solution with any initial data, are established using a nonlinear Neumann boundary feedback control law. Then, applying $C^0$-conforming finite element method in spatial direction, optimal error estimates in $L^\infty(L^2)$ and in $L^\infty(H^1)$- norms for the state variable and convergence result for the boundary feedback control law are derived. All the results preserve exponential stabilization property. Finally, severa…
We provide explicit time-varying feedback laws that locally stabilize the two dimensional internal controlled incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in arbitrarily small time. We also obtain quantitative rapid stabilization via stationary feedback laws, as well as quantitative null controllability with explicit controls having $e^{C/T}$ costs.
This work represents a first contribution on the problem of boundary stabilization for the phase field system of Cahn-Hilliard type, which models the phase separation in a binary mixture. The feedback controller we design here is with actuation only on the temperature flow of the system, on one part of the boundary only. Moreover, it is of proportional type, given in an explicit form, expressed only in terms of the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator, being easy to manipulate from the computational point of view. Furthermore, it ensures that the closed loop nonlinear system exponentially re…
We consider a fluid-structure interaction system composed by a three-dimensional viscous incompressible fluid and an elastic plate located on the upper part of the fluid boundary. The fluid motion is governed by the Navier-Stokes system whereas the structure displacement satisfies the damped plate equation. We consider here the Navier slip boundary conditions. The main result of this work is the feedback stabilization of the strong solutions of the corresponding system around a stationary state for any exponential decay rate by means of a time delayed control localized on the fixed fluid bound…
There exist many ways to stabilize an infinite-dimensional linear autonomous control systems when it is possible. Anyway, finding an exponentially stabilizing feedback control that is as simple as possible may be a challenge. The Riccati theory provides a nice feedback control but may be computationally demanding when considering a discretization scheme. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) offers a popular way to reduce large-dimensional systems. In the present paper, we establish that, under appropriate spectral assumptions, an exponentially stabilizing feedback Riccati control designed fro…
The complex Ginzburg--Landau equation serves as a paradigm of pattern formation and the existence and stability properties of Ginzburg--Landau $m$-armed spiral waves have been investigated extensively. However, many multi-armed spiral waves are unstable and thereby rarely visible in experiments and numerical simulations. In this article we selectively stabilize certain significant classes of unstable spiral waves within circular and spherical geometries. As a result, stable spiral waves with an arbitrary number of arms are obtained for the first time. Our tool for stabilization is the symmetry…
We solve the feedback stabilization problem for a tank, with friction, containing a liquid modeled by the viscous Saint-Venant system of Partial Differential Equations. A spill-free exponential stabilization is achieved, with robustness to the wall friction forces. A Control Lyapunov Functional (CLF) methodology with two different Lyapunov functionals is employed. These functionals determine specific parameterized sets which approximate the state space. The feedback law is designed based only on one of the two functionals (which is the CLF) while the other functional is used for the derivation…
We consider linear control systems of the form $\dot{y}(t)=Ay(t)-μB C y(t)$ where $μ$ is a positive real parameter, $A$ is the state operator and generates a linear $C_0-$semigroup of contractions $S(t) $ on a Banach space $X$, $B$ and $C$ are respectively the operators of control and observability, which are defined in appropriate spaces in which they are unbounded in some sense. We aim to show the exponential stability of the above system under sufficient conditions which are expressed in term of admissibility and observability properties. The uniform exponential stabilization using bilinear…
We construct a robust stabilizing feedback law for the viscous Saint-Venant system of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) with surface tension and without wall friction. The Saint-Venant system describes the movement of a tank which contains a viscous liquid. We assume constant contact angles between the liquid and the walls of the tank and we achieve a spill-free exponential stabilization with robustness to surface tension by using a Control Lyapunov Functional (CLF). The proposed CLF provides a parameterized family of sets which approximate the state space from the interior. Based on the C…
