In this paper we first consider the Hamiltonian action of a compact connected Lie group on an $H$-twisted generalized complex manifold $M$. Given such an action, we define generalized equivariant cohomology and generalized equivariant Dolbeault cohomology. If the generalized complex manifold $M$ satisfies the $\bar{\partial}\partial$-lemma, we prove that they are both canonically isomorphic to $(S\g^*)^G\otimes H_H(M)$, where $(S\g^*)^G$ is the space of invariant polynomials over the Lie algebra $\g$ of $G$, and $H_H(M)$ is the $H$-twisted cohomology of $M$. Furthermore, we establish an equivariant version of the $\bar{\partial}\partial$-lemma, namely $\bar{\partial}_G\partial$-lemma, which is a direct generalization of the $d_Gδ$-lemma for Hamiltonian symplectic manifolds with the Hard Lefschetz property.
Second we consider the torus action on a compact generalized Kähler manifold which preserves the generalized Kähler structure and which is equivariantly formal. We prove a generalization of a result of Carrell and Lieberman in generalized Kähler geometry. We then use it to compute the generalized Hodge numbers for non-trivial examples of generalized Kähler structures on $\C¶^n$ and $\CP^n$ blown up at a fixed point.
We investigate U(1)-equivariant deformations of C. LeBrun's self-dual metric with torus action. We explicitly determine all U(1)-subgroups of the torus for which one can obtain U(1)-equivariant deformation that do not preserve semi-free U(1)-action. This gives many new self-dual metrics with U(1)-action which are not conformally isometric to LeBrun metric. We also count the dimension of the moduli space of self-dual metrics with U(1)-action obtained in this way.
In this note we prove that toric Kähler metrics on complex projective space which are also $U(n)$-invariant are determined by their equivariant spectrum i.e. the list of eigenvalues of the Laplacian together with weights of the torus representation on the eigenspaces.
It is conjectured that to test the K-polystability of a polarised variety it is enough to consider test-configurations which are equivariant with respect to a torus in the automorphism group. We prove partial results towards this conjecture. We also show that it would give a new proof of the K-polystability of constant scalar curvature polarised manifolds.
Let $M^{2n}$ be a unitary torus $(2n)$-manifold, i.e., a $(2n)$-dimensional oriented stable complex connected closed $T^n$-manifold having a nonempty fixed set. In this paper we show that $M$ bounds equivariantly if and only if the equivariant Chern numbers $< (c_1^{T^n})^i(c_2^{T^n})^j, [M]>=0$ for all $i, j\in {\Bbb N}$, where $c_l^{T^n}$ denotes the $l$th equivariant Chern class of $M$. As a consequence, we also show that if $M$ does not bound equivariantly then the number of fixed points is at least $\lceil{n\over2}\rceil+1$.
We study Cohen-Macaulay actions, a class of torus actions on manifolds, possibly without fixed points, which generalizes and has analogous properties as equivariantly formal actions. Their equivariant cohomology algebras are computable in the sense that a Chang-Skjelbred Lemma, and its stronger version, the exactness of an Atiyah-Bredon sequence, hold. The main difference is that the fixed point set is replaced by the union of lowest dimensional orbits. We find sufficient conditions for the Cohen-Macaulay property such as the existence of an invariant Morse-Bott function whose critical set is …
We extend the equivariant holomorphic Morse inequalities of circle actions to cases with torus and non-Abelian group actions on holomorphic vector bundles over Kahler manifolds and show the necessity of the Kahler condition. For torus actions, there is a set of inequalities for each choice of action chambers specifying directions in the Lie algebra of the torus. We apply the results to invariant line bundles over toric manifolds. If the group is non-Abelian, there is in addition an action of the Weyl group on the fixed-point set of its maximal torus. The sum over the fixed points can be rearra…
We give two generalizations of the Atiyah-Bott-Berline-Vergne localization theorem for the equivariant cohomology of a torus action: 1) replacing the torus action by a compact connected Lie group action, 2) replacing the manifold having a torus action by an equivariant map. This provides a systematic method for calculating the Gysin homomorphism in ordinary cohomology of an equivariant map. As an example, we recover a formula of Akyildiz-Carrell for the Gysin homomorphism of flag manifolds.
This paper generalizes Bismut's equivariant Chern character to the setting of abelian gerbes. In particular, associated to an abelian gerbe with connection, an equivariantly closed differential form is constructed on the space of maps of a torus into the manifold. These constructions are made explicit using a new local version of the higher Hochschild complex, resulting in differential forms given by iterated integrals. Connections to two dimensional topological field theories are indicated. Similarly, this local higher Hochschild complex is used to calculate the 2-holonomy of an abelian gerbe…
In this expository note we describe important examples of Lagrangian mean curvature flow in $\mathbb{C}^2$ which are invariant under a circle action. Through these examples, we see compact and non-compact situations, long-time existence, singularities forming via explicit models, and significant objects in Riemannian and symplectic geometry, including the Clifford torus, Chekanov torus, Whitney sphere and Lawlor necks.
For (X,L) a polarized toric variety and G a torus of automorphisms of (X,L), denote by Y the GIT quotient X/G. We define a family of fully faithful functors from the category of torus equivariant reflexive sheaves on Y to the category of torus equivariant reflexive sheaves on X. We show, under a genericity assumption on G, that slope stability is preserved by these functors if and only if the pair ((X, L), G) satisfies a combinatorial criterion. As an application, when (X,L) is a polarized toric orbifold of dimension n, we relate stable equivariant reflexive sheaves on (X, L) to stable equivar…
Let G be a compact connected Lie group, and (M,ω) a Hamiltonian G-space with proper moment map μ. We give a surjectivity result which expresses the K-theory of the symplectic quotient M//G in terms of the equivariant K-theory of the original manifold M, under certain technical conditions on μ. This result is a natural K-theoretic analogue of the Kirwan surjectivity theorem in symplectic geometry. The main technical tool is the K-theoretic Atiyah-Bott lemma, which plays a fundamental role in the symplectic geometry of Hamiltonian G-spaces. We discuss this lemma in detail and highlight the diffe…
We consider a compact connected CR manifold with a transversal CR locally free $\mathbb R$-action endowed with a rigid positive CR line bundle. We prove that a certain weighted Fourier-Szegő kernel of the CR sections in the high tensor powers admits a full asymptotic expansion and we establish $\mathbb R$-equivariant Kodaira embedding theorem for CR manifolds. Using similar methods we also establish an analytic proof of an $\mathbb R$-equivariant Boutet de Monvel embedding theorem for strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. In particular, we obtain equivariant embedding theorems for irregular Sasa…
Let $M^n$, $n \in \{4,5,6\}$, be a compact, simply connected $n$-manifold which admits some Riemannian metric with non-negative curvature and an isometry group of maximal possible rank. Then any smooth, effective action on $M^n$ by a torus $T^{n-2}$ is equivariantly diffeomorphic to an isometric action on a normal biquotient. Furthermore, it follows that any effective, isometric circle action on a compact, simply connected, non-negatively curved four-dimensional manifold is equivariantly diffeomorphic to an effective, isometric action on a normal biquotient.
We investigate the equivariant cohomology of the natural torus action on a K-contact manifold and its relation to the topology of the Reeb flow. Using the contact moment map, we show that the equivariant cohomology of this action is Cohen-Macaulay, which is a generalization of equivariant formality for torus actions without fixed points. As a consequence, a generic component of the contact moment map is a perfect Morse-Bott function for the basic cohomology of the orbit foliation F of the Reeb flow. Assuming that the closed Reeb orbits are isolated, we show that the basic cohomology of F is tr…
In this work, it is shown that a simply-connected, rationally-elliptic torus orbifold is equivariantly rationally homotopy equivalent to the quotient of a product of spheres by an almost-free, linear torus action, where this torus has rank equal to the number of odd-dimensional spherical factors in the product. As an application, simply-connected, rationally-elliptic manifolds admitting slice-maximal torus actions are classified up to equivariant rational homotopy. The case where the rational-ellipticity hypothesis is replaced by non-negative curvature is also discussed, and the Bott Conjectur…
We show that if a holomorphic $n$ dimensional compact torus action on a compact connected complex manifold of complex dimension $n$ has a fixed point then the manifold is equivariantly biholomorphic to a smooth toric variety.
Consider a Hamiltonian action of a compact Lie group K on a compact symplectic manifold. We find descriptions of the kernel of the Kirwan map corresponding to a regular value of the moment map $κ_K$. We start with the case when K is a torus T: we determine the kernel of the equivariant Kirwan map (defined by Goldin in [Go]) corresponding to a generic circle S in T, and show how to recover from this the kernel of $κ_T$, as described by Tolman and Weitsman. (In the situation when the fixed point set of the torus action is finite, similar results have been obtained in our previous papers [Je], [J…
We classify symplectic actions of 2-tori on compact, connected symplectic 4-manifolds, up to equivariant symplectomorphisms. This extends results of Atiyah, Guillemin-Sternberg, Delzant and Benoist. The classification is in terms of a collection of invariants, which are invariants of the topology of the manifold, of the torus action and of the symplectic form. We construct explicit models of such symplectic manifolds with torus actions, defined in terms of these invariants. We also classify, up to equivariant symplectomorphisms, symplectic actions of (2n-2)-dimensional tori on 2n-dimensional s…
We establish an equivariant generalization of the Novikov inequalities which allow to estimate the topology of the set of critical points of a closed basic invariant form by means of twisted equivariant cohomology of the manifold. We apply these inequalities to study cohomology of the fixed points set of a symplectic torus action. We show that in this case our inequalities are perfect, i.e. they are in fact equalities.
An upper bound is obtained on the rank of a torus which can act smoothly and effectively on a smooth, closed, simply connected, rationally elliptic manifold. In the maximal-rank case, the manifolds admitting such actions are classified up to equivariant rational homotopy type.
We study fixed points of smooth torus actions on closed manifolds using fixed point formulas and equivariant elliptic genera. We also give applications to positively curved Riemannian manifolds with symmetry.
