Following the work of Harris and Kudla we prove a more general form of a conjecture of Jacquet relating the non-vanishing of a certain period integral to non-vanishing of the central critical value of a certain $L$-function. As a consequence we deduce certain local results about the existence of $GL_2(k)$-invariant linear forms on irreducible, admissible representations of $GL_2({\Bbb K})$ for ${\Bbb K}$ a commutative semi-simple cubic algebra over a non-archimedean local field $k$ in terms of certain local epsilon factors which were proved only in certain cases by the first author in his earlier work. This has been achieved by globalising a locally distinguished representation to a globally distinguished representation, a result of independent interest.
In this paper, we prove a kernel formula of Bessel functions attached to irreducible smooth supercuspidal representations of p-adic $GL(n)$. We also show that the Bessel function defined by Bessel distribution coincides with the Bessel function defined via uniqueness of Whittaker models on the open Bruhat cell. As an application we give a proof of the local converse conjecture of Jacquet.
The Local Converse Problem is to determine how the family of the local gamma factors $γ(s,π\timesτ,ψ)$ characterizes the isomorphism class of an irreducible admissible generic representation $π$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$, with $F$ a non-archimedean local field, where $τ$ runs through all irreducible supercuspidal representations of $\mathrm{GL}_r(F)$ and $r$ runs through positive integers. The Jacquet conjecture asserts that it is enough to take $r=1,2,\ldots,\left[\frac{n}{2}\right]$. Based on arguments in the work of Henniart and of Chen giving preliminary steps towards the Jacquet conjecture, w…
We give a parametrization of the simple Bernstein components of inner forms of a general linear group over a local field by invariants constructed from type theory, and explicitly describe its behaviour under the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence. Along the way, we prove a conjecture of Broussous, Sécherre and Stevens on preservation of endo-classes.
In this note, we prove in full generality a conjecture of Jacquet concerning the nonvanishing of the triple product L-function at the central point. Let $\kay$ be a number field and let $π_i$, $i=1$, 2, 3 be cuspidal automorphic representations of $GL_2(\A)$ such that the product of their central characters is trivial. Then the central value $L(\frac12,π_1\otimesπ_2\otimesπ_3)$ of the triple product L--function is nonzero if and only if there exists a quaternion algebra $B$ over $\kay$ and automorphic forms $f_i^B\in π_i^B$, such that the integral of the product $f_1^B f_2^B f_3^B$ over the di…
In this paper, we prove the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture and the Ichino-Ikeda conjecture for unitary groups $U_n\times U_{n+1}$ in all the endoscopic cases. Our main technical innovation is the computation of the contributions of certain cuspidal data, called $*$-generic, to the Jacquet-Rallis trace formula for linear groups. We offer two different computations of these contributions: one, based on truncation, is expressed in terms of regularized Rankin-Selberg periods of Eisenstein series and Flicker-Rallis intertwining periods. The other, built upon Zeta integrals, is expressed in terms of fu…
We prove an analogue of Jacquet's conjecture on the local converse theorem for \ell-adic families of co-Whittaker representations of GL_n(F), where F is a finite extension of Q_p and \ell does not equal p. We also prove an analogue of Jacquet's conjecture for a descent theorem, which asks for the smallest collection of gamma factors determining the subring of definition of an \ell-adic family. These two theorems are closely related to the local Langlands correspondence in \ell-adic families.
Kummer's Conjecture predicts the rate of growth of the relative class numbers of cyclotomic fields of prime conductor. We extend Kummer's Conjecture to cyclotomic fields of conductor n, where n is any natural number. We show that the Elliott-Halberstam Conjecture implies that this Generalised Kummer's Conjecture is true for almost all n but is false for infinitely many n.
We prove the generalised Tate conjecture for H^3 of products of elliptic curves over finite fields, by slightly modifying an argument of M. Spiess concerning the Tate conjecture. We prove it fully if the elliptic curves run among at most 3 isogeny classes. We also show how things become more intricate from H^4 onwards, for more that 3 isogeny classes.
We consider a Laurent series defined by infinite products $g_u(t) = \prod_{n=0}^\infty (1 + ut^{-2^n})$, where $u\in \mathbb{F}$ is a parameter and $\mathbb{F}$ is a field. We show that for all $u\in\mathbb{Q}\setminus\{-1,0,1\}$ the series $g_u(t)$ does not satisfy the $t$-adic Littlewood conjecture. On the other hand, if $\mathbb{F}$ is finite then $g_u(t)\in \mathbb{F}((t^{-1}))$ is either a rational function or it satisfies the $t$-adic Littlewood conjecture.
Let F be a non-archimedean local field of characteristic zero with residual characteristic p. In this paper, we present a simple proof and construction of the local Langlands correspondence for simple supercuspidal representations of GL_n(F), when p does not divide n. As an application, we prove Jacquet's conjecture on the local converse problem for GL_n(F) in the case of simple supercuspidal representations, for arbitrary p.
Let F be a locally compact nonarchimedean local field. In this article, we extend to any inner form of GL(n) over F the notion of endo-class introduced by Bushnell and Henniart for GL(n,F). We investigate the intertwining relations of simple characters of these groups, in particular their preservation properties under transfer. This allows us to associate to any discrete series representation of an inner form of GL(n,F) an endo-class over F. We conjecture that this endo-class is invariant under the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence.
Jacobsthal's function was recently generalised for the case of paired progressions. It was proven that a specific bound of this function is sufficient for the truth of Goldbach's conjecture and of the prime pairs conjecture as well. We extended and adapted algorithms described for the computation of the common Jacobsthal function, and computed respective function values of the paired Jacobsthal function for primorial numbers for primes up to 73. All these values fulfil the conjectured specific bound. In addition to this note, we provide a detailed review of the algorithmic approaches and the c…
{We use the recent proof of Jacquet's conjecture due to Harris and Kudla, and the Burger-Sarnak principle to give a proof about the relationship between the existence of trilinear forms on representations of $GL_2(k_u)$ for a non-Archimedean local field $k_u$ and local epsilon factors which was earlier proved only in the odd residue characteristic by this author. The same method gives a global proof of a theorem of Saito and Tunnell about characters of $GL_2$ using a theorem of Waldspurger about period integrals for $GL_2$ and also an extension of the theorem of Saito-Tunnell by this author wh…
In this article we study an abelian analogue of Schanuel's conjecture. This conjecture falls in the realm of the generalised period conjecture of Y. Andr{é}. As shown by C. Bertolin, the generalised period conjecture includes Schanuel's conjecture as a special case. Extending methods of Bertolin, it can be shown that the abelian analogue of Schanuel's conjecture we consider, also follows from Andr{é}'s conjecture. C. Cheng et al. showed that the classical Schanuel's conjecture implies the algebraic independence of the values of the iterated exponential function and the values of the iterated l…
The cyclic insertion conjecture of Borwein, Bradley, Broadhurst and Lisoněk states that by inserting all cyclic permutations of some initial blocks of 2's into the multiple zeta value $ ζ(1,3,\ldots,1,3) $ and summing, one obtains an explicit rational multiple of a power of $ π$. Hoffman gives a conjectural identity of a similar flavour concerning $ 2 ζ(3,3,\{2\}^m) - ζ(3,\{2\}^m,(1,2)) $. In this paper we introduce the 'generalised cyclic insertion conjecture', which we describe using a new combinatorial structure on iterated integrals -- the so-called alternating block decomposition. We see …

We conjecture that bounded generalised polynomial functions cannot be generated by finite automata, except for the trivial case when they are periodic away from a finite set. Using methods from ergodic theory, we are able to partially resolve this conjecture, proving that any hypothetical counterexample is periodic away from a very sparse and structured set. In particular, we show that for a polynomial $p(n)$ with at least one irrational coefficient (except for the constant one) and integer $m$, the sequence $\lfloor p(n) \rfloor \bmod{m}$ is never automatic. We also obtain a conditional resul…
We work out the exact relationship between algebraic modular forms for a two-by-two general unitary group over a definite quaternion algebra, and those arising from genera of positive-definite quinary lattices, relating stabilisers of local lattices with specific open compact subgroups, paramodular at split places, and with Atkin-Lehner operators. Combining this with the recent work of Rösner and Weissauer, proving conjectures of Ibukiyama on Jacquet-Langlands type correspondences (mildly generalised here), provides an effective tool for computing Hecke eigenvalues for Siegel modular forms of …
We conjecture that bounded generalised polynomial functions cannot be generated by finite automata, except for the trivial case when they are ultimately periodic. Using methods from ergodic theory, we are able to partially resolve this conjecture, proving that any hypothetical counterexample is periodic away from a very sparse and structured set. In particular, we show that for a polynomial $p(n)$ with at least one irrational coefficient (except for the constant one) and integer $m\geq 2$, the sequence $\lfloor p(n) \rfloor \bmod{m}$ is never automatic. We also prove that the conjecture is equ…
In this paper we prove, assuming the Generalised Riemann Hypothesis, a conjecture of Yves Andre that that asserts that a curve in a Shimura variety containing an infinite set of special points is of Hodge type.
Generalised Heegner cycles are associated to a pair of an elliptic Hecke eigenform and a Hecke character over an imaginary quadratic extension $K/\Q$. Let $p$ be an odd prime split in $K/\Q$ and $l\neq p$ an odd unramified prime. We prove the non-triviality of the $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi image of generalised Heegner cycles modulo $p$ over the $\Z_l$-anticylotomic extension of $K$. The result is an evidence for the refined Bloch-Beilinson and the Bloch-Kato conjecture. In the case of two, it provides a refinement of the results of Cornut and Vatsal on the non-triviality of Heegner points over the …
We construct a family of affinoids in the Lubin-Tate perfectoid space and their formal models such that the middle cohomology of their reductions realizes the local Langlands correspondence and the local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence for the simple supercuspidal representations. The reductions of the formal models are isomorphic to the perfections of some Artin-Schreier varieties, whose cohomology realizes primitive Galois representations. We show also the Tate conjecture for Artin-Schreier varieties associated to quadratic forms.
Estimating averages of Dirichlet convolutions $1 \ast χ$, for some real Dirichlet character $χ$ of fixed modulus, over the sparse set of values of binary forms defined over $\mathbb{Z}$ has been the focus of extensive investigations in recent years, with spectacular applications to Manin's conjecture for Châtelet surfaces. We introduce a far-reaching generalization of this problem, in particular replacing $χ$ by Jacobi symbols with both arguments having varying size, possibly tending to infinity. The main results of this paper provide asymptotic estimates and lower bounds of the expected order…
The conjecture stated by Carayol in [{\em Non-abelian Lubin-Tate theory.} Automorphic forms, Shimura varieties and $L$-functions, vol II: 15--39, Academic Press,1990] predicted that the {\em supercuspidal part} of the l-adic cohomology of the moduli spaces classifying certain formal groups introduced by Drinfeld would provide a simultaneaous "realization" of Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands local correspondences for {\em supercuspidal} representations of $GL_d$. By works of Harris, Boyer, Harris-Taylor and Hausberger, this conjecture is now proved. On another hand, recent works by Boyer and Fal…
Generalised Heegner cycles are associated to a pair of an elliptic newform and a Hecke character over an imaginary quadratic extension $K/\Q$. The cycles live in a middle dimensional Chow group of a Kuga-Sato variety arising from an indefinite Shimura curve over the rationals and a self product of a CM abelian surface. Let $p$ be an odd prime split in $K/\Q$. We prove the non-triviality of the $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi image of generalised Heegner cycles modulo $p$ over the $\Z_p$-anticylotomic extension of $K$. The result implies the non-triviality of the generalised Heegner cycles in the top grad…
We analyse the mod p étale cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower both with compact support and without support. We prove that there are no supersingular representations in the H^1_c of the Lubin-Tate tower. On the other hand, we show that in H^1 of the Lubin-Tate tower appears the mod p local Langlands correspondence and the mod p local Jacquet-Langlands correspondence, which we define in the text. We discuss the local-global compatibility part of the Buzzard-Diamond-Jarvis conjecture which appears naturally in this context.
We prove two results on arithmetic quantum chaos for dihedral Maass forms, both of which are manifestations of Berry's random wave conjecture: Planck scale mass equidistribution and an asymptotic formula for the fourth moment. For level $1$ forms, these results were previously known for Eisenstein series and conditionally on the generalised Lindelof hypothesis for Hecke-Maass eigenforms. A key aspect of the proofs is bounds for certain mixed moments of $L$-functions that imply hybrid subconvexity.
