In this paper, we study the partial convexity of smooth solutions to the heat equation on a compact or complete non-compact Riemannian manifold M or Kahler-Ricci flow. We show that under a natural assumption, a new partial convexity property for smooth solutions to the heat equation is preserved.

We establish a microscopic convexity principle for nonlinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations in general form.
We study contractivity properties of gradient flows for functions on normed spaces or, more generally, on Finsler manifolds. Contractivity of the flows turns out to be equivalent to a new notion of convexity for the functions. This is different from the usual convexity along geodesics in non-Riemannian Finsler manifolds. As an application, we show that the heat flow on Minkowski normed spaces other than inner product spaces is not contractive with respect to the quadratic Wasserstein distance.
We show an energy convexity along any harmonic map heat flow with small initial energy and fixed boundary data on the unit 2-disk. In particular, this gives an affirmative answer to a question raised by W. We derive an adaptation of Li & Yau estimates for positive solutions of semilinear heat equations on Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci tensor. We then apply these estimates to obtain a Harnack inequality and to discuss monotonicity, convexity, decay estimates and triviality of ancient and eternal solutions.
We introduce a heat flow associated to half-harmonic maps, which have been introduced by Da Lio and Rivière. Those maps exhibit integrability by compensation in one space dimension and are related to harmonic maps with free boundary. We consider a new flow associated to these harmonic maps with free boundary which is actually motivated by a rather unusual heat flow for half-harmonic maps. We construct then weak solutions and prove their partial regularity in space and time via a Ginzburg-Landau approximation. The present paper complements the study initiated by Struwe and Chen-Lin.
