For a rigid tensor abelian category $T$ over a field $k$ we introduce a notion of a normal quotient $q:T\to Q$. In case $T$ is a Tannaka category, our notion is equivalent to Milne's notion of a normal quotient. More precisely, if $T$ is the category of finite dimensional representations of a groupoid scheme $G$ over $k$, then $Q$ is equivalent to the representation category of a normal subgroupoid scheme of $G$. We describe such a quotient in terms of the subcategory $S$ of $T$ consisting of objects which become trivial in $Q$. We show that, under some condition on $S$, $Q$ is uniquely determined by $S$. If $S$ is an 'etale finite tensor category, we show that the quotient of $T$ by $S$ exists. In particular we show the existence of the base change of $T$ with respect to finite separable field extensions. As an application, we obtain a condition for the exactness of sequences of groupoid schemes in terms of the representation categories.
In this paper, we consider a kind of ideal quotient of an extriangulated category such that the ideal is the kernel of a functor from this extriangulated category to an abelian category. We study a condition when the functor is dense and full, in another word, the ideal quotient becomes abelian. Moreover, a new equivalent characterization of cluster-tilting subcategories is given by applying homological methods according to this functor. As an application, we show that in a connected 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category B, a functorially finite, extension closed subcategory T of B is cluster til…
Let C be a triangulated category with a Serre functor S and X a non-zero contravariantly finite rigid subcategory of C. Then X is cluster tilting if and only if the quotient category C/X is abelian and S(X)=X[2]. As an application, this result generalizes work by Beligiannis.
We study abelian envelopes for pseudo-tensor categories with the property that every object in the envelope is a quotient of an object in the pseudo-tensor category. We establish an intrinsic criterion on pseudo-tensor categories for the existence of an abelian envelope satisfying this quotient property. This allows us to interpret the extension of scalars and Deligne tensor product of tensor categories as abelian envelopes, and to enlarge the class of tensor categories for which all extensions of scalars and tensor products are known to remain tensor categories. For an affine group scheme G, …
We introduce the concept of a pseudo-cluster tilting subcategory from the viewpoint of the fact that the quotient of an exact category by a cluster tilting subcategory is an abelian category. We prove that the quotients in the case of pseudo-cluster tilting are always semi-abelian. In addition, it is abelian if and only if some self-orthogonal conditions are satisfied. We revisit the abelian quotient category of conflations by splitting ones, and get that there exists a unique exact substructure such that it is a cluster quotient.
We study the Grothendieck monoid (a monoid version of the Grothendieck group) of an extriangulated category, and give some results which are new even for abelian categories. First, we classify Serre subcategories and dense 2-out-of-3 subcategories using the Grothendieck monoid. Second, in good situations, we show that the Grothendieck monoid of the localization of an extriangulated category is isomorphic to the natural quotient monoid of the original Grothendieck monoid. This includes the cases of the Serre quotient of an abelian category and the Verdier quotient of a triangulated category. As…
The affine Kauffmann category is a strict monoidal category and can be considered as a $q$-analogue of the affine Brauer category in (Rui et al. in Math. Zeit. 293, 503-550, 2019). In this paper, we prove a basis theorem for the morphism spaces in the affine Kauffmann category. The cyclotomic Kauffmann category is a quotient category of the affine Kauffmann category. We also prove that any morphism space in this category is free over an integral domain $\mathbb K$ with maximal rank if and only if the $\mathbf u$-admissible condition holds in the sense of Definition 1.13.
For a certain full additive subcategory X of an additive category A, one defines the lower extension groups in relative homological algebra. We show that these groups are isomorphic to the suspended Hom groups in the Verdier quotient category of the bounded homotopy category of A by that of X. Alternatively, these groups are isomorphic to the negative cohomological groups of the Hom complexes in the dg quotient category A/X, where both A and X are viewed as dg categories concentrated in degree zero.
Let $\C$ be an $(n+2)$-angulated category with shift functor $Σ$ and $\X$ be a cluster-tilting subcategory of $\C$. Then we show that the quotient category $\C/\X$ is an $n$-abelian category. If $\C$ has a Serre functor, then $\C/\X$ is equivalent to an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of an abelian category $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$. Moreover, we also prove that $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$ is Gorenstein of Gorenstein dimension at most $n$. As an application, we generalize recent results of Jacobsen-Jørgensen and Koenig-Zhu.
We study induced model structures on Frobenius categories. In particular we consider the case where $\mathcal{C}$ is the category of comodules of a supercommutative Hopf algebra $A$ over a field $k$. Given a graded Hopf algebra quotient $A \to B$ satisfying some finiteness conditions, the Frobenius tensor category $\mathcal{D}$ of graded $B$-comodules with its stable model structure induces a monoidal model structure on $\mathcal{C}$. We consider the corresponding homotopy quotient $γ: \mathcal{C} \to Ho \mathcal{C}$ and the induced quotient $\mathcal{T} \to Ho \mathcal{T}$ for the tensor cate…
In this article, we study the Gorenstein property of abelian quotient categories induced by fully rigid subcategories on an exact category B. We also study when d-cluster tilting subcategories become fully rigid. We show that the quotient abelian category induced by such d-cluster tilting subcategories are hereditary.
In this article, we introduce the notion of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated categories as higher dimensional analogues of pre-triangulated categories defined by Beligiannis-Reiten. We first show that the idempotent completion of a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category admits a unique structure of pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an $n$-exangulated category and $\mathscr{X}$ be a strongly functorially finite subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. We then show that the quotient category $\mathscr{C}/\mathscr{X}$ is a pre-$(n+2)$-angulated category. These results allow to const…
Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu by extracting the similarities between exact categories and triangulated categories. A notion of mutation of subcategories in an extriangulated category is defined in this article. Let $\cal A$ be an extension closed subcategory of an extriangulated category $\cal C$. Then the quotient category $\cal M:=\cal{A}/\cal{X}$ carries naturally a triangulated structure whenever $(\cal A,\cal A)$ forms an $\cal X$-mutation pair. This result unifies many previous constructions of triangulated quotient categories, and using it gives a classif…
We investigate abelian quotients arising from extriangulated categories via morphism categories, which is a unified treatment for both exact categories and triangulated categories. Let $(\mathcal{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an extriangulated category with enough projectives $\mathcal{P}$ and $\mathcal{M}$ be a full subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$ containing $\mathcal{P}$. We show that certain quotient category of $\mathfrak{s}\textup{-def}(\mathcal{M})$, the category of $\mathfrak{s}$-deflations $f:M_{1}\rightarrow M_2$ with $M_1,M_2\in\mathcal{M}$, is abelian. Our main theorem has two applic…
When the parameter $q$ is a root of unity, the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_n(q)$ is non-semisimple for almost all $n$. In this work, using cellular methods, we give explicit generating functions for the dimensions of all the simple $TL_n(q)$-modules. Jones showed that if the order $|q^2|=\ell$ there is a canonical symmetric bilinear form on $TL_n(q)$, whose radical $R_n(q)$ is generated by a certain idempotent $E_\ell\in TL_{\ell-1}(q)\subseteq TL_n(q)$, which is now referred to as the Jones-Wenzl idempotent, for which an explicit formula was subsequently given by Graham and Lehrer. Although th…
For a tensor triangulated category and any regular cardinal $α$ we study the frame of $α$-localizing tensor ideals and its associated space of points. For a well-generated category and its frame of localizing tensor ideals we provide conditions such that the associated space is obtained by refining the topology of the corresponding space for the triangulated subcategory of $α$-compact objects. This is illustrated by several known examples for $α=\aleph_0$, and new spaces arise for $α>\aleph_0$.
For a finite free and projective EI category, we prove that Gorenstein-projective modules over its category algebra are closed under the tensor product if and only if each morphism in the given category is a monomorphism.
Tilting objects play a key role in the study of triangulated categories. A famous result due to Iyama and Takahashi asserts that the stable categories of graded maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over quotient singularities have tilting objects. This paper proves a noncommutative generalization of Iyama and Takahashi's theorem using noncommutative algebraic geometry. Namely, if $S$ is a noetherian AS-regular Koszul algebra and $G$ is a finite group acting on $S$ such that $S^G$ is a "Gorenstein isolated singularity", then the stable category ${\underline {\operatorname {CM}}}^{\Bbb Z}(S^G)$ of gra…
We give a method to realize Verdier quotients as triangulated subfactors of an arbitrary triangulated category. We show that Iyama-Yoshino triangulated subfactors are Verdier quotients under suitable conditions.
We determine for which Coxeter types the associated small quotient of the $2$-category of Soergel bimodules is finitary and, for such a small quotient, classify the simple transitive $2$-representations (sometimes under the additional assumption of gradability). We also describe the underlying categories of the simple transitive $2$-representations. For the small quotients of general Coxeter types, we give a description for the cell $2$-representations.
The monoidal category of Soergel bimodules categorifies the Hecke algebra of a finite Weyl group. In the case of the symmetric group, morphisms in this category can be drawn as graphs in the plane. We define a quotient category, also given in terms of planar graphs, which categorifies the Temperley-Lieb algebra. Certain ideals appearing in this quotient are related both to the 1-skeleton of the Coxeter complex and to the topology of 2D cobordisms. We demonstrate how further subquotients of this category will categorify the cell modules of the Temperley-Lieb algebra.
We give a sufficient condition for a Verdier quotient $\ct/\cs$ of a triangulated category $\ct$ by a thick subcategory $\cs$ to be realized inside of $\ct$ as an ideal quotient. As applications, we deduce three significant results by Buchweitz, Orlov and Amiot--Guo--Keller.
We describe the structure of the tensor product of the basic Fock representation of sl(\infty) with its shifted dual. More precisely we prove that this tensor product has a unique decreasing filtration with simple quotients. We use the categorification of this representation via translation functors in the abelain envelope of the Deligne category GL(t) for integral t. We also compute dimensions of standard and tilting objects in this abelian envelope.
The Lie algebra $gl(V)$ is the Lie algebra of all endomorphisms of a countable-dimensional complex vector space $V$. We define a tensor category of topological representations of the Lie algebra $gl(V)$, so that $V$, its dual and the adjoint representation $gl(V)$ are objects of this category. This makes it an analogue of the category of finite-dimensional modules over the finite-dimensional Lie algebra $gl(n)$. Our main result is that this category is antiequivalent as a symmetric monoidal category to the category of tensor representations of the Lie algebra of finitary infinite matrices.
We show that any Abelian module category over the (degenerate or quantum) Heisenberg category satisfying suitable finiteness conditions may be viewed as a 2-representation over a corresponding Kac-Moody 2-category (and vice versa). This gives a way to construct Kac-Moody actions in many representation-theoretic examples which is independent of Rouquier's original approach via `control by K_0.' As an application, we prove an isomorphism theorem for generalized cyclotomic quotients of these categories, extending the known isomorphism between cyclotomic quotients of type A affine Hecke algebras a…
