Recently, there has been considerable progress in classifying the irreducible representations of Iwahori--Hecke algebras at roots of unity. Here, we present an application of these results to $\ell$-modular Harish--Chandra series for a finite group of Lie type $G(q)$. Under some mild condition on $\ell$, we show that the $\ell$-modular principal series representations of $G(q)$ are naturally parametrized by a {\em subset} of the set of complex irreducible characters of the Weyl group of $G(q)$. We also show that this subset is ``generic'' in a precise sense.
Let $G=GL_{n}(R)$, with the usual Cartan decomposition $G=Kexp(p_0)$ and the usual Iwasawa decomposition $G=NAK$. We determine the image of $exp(p_0)$ under the projection of $G$ to $K$ through the Iwasawa decomposition. As an application, we prove a positivity result about the matrix coefficients of principal series representations of $G$.
We show that principal series representations of the real split odd orthogonal group have non-vanishing rank one bessel models of a very particular type.
A functional equation between the zeta distributions can be obtained from the theory of prehomogeneous vector spaces. We show that the functional equation can be extended from the Schwartz space to certain degenerate principal series.
We determine when there exists a nonzero homomorphism between principal series representations of a complex semisimple Lie group. We also determines the existence of homomorphisms between twisted Verma modules.
Recently, Iwahori-Hecke algebras were associated to Kac-Moody groups over non-Archimedean local fields. We introduce principal series representations for these algebras. We study these representations and partially generalize Kato and Matsumoto irreducibility criteria.
The aim of this paper is to give an exposition of recent progress on the determination of the unitarizable Langlands quotients of minimal principal series for reductive groups over the real or p-adic fields in characteristic 0.
We study the principal series representations of central extensions of a split reductive algebraic group by a cyclic group of order $n$. We compute the Plancherel measure of the representation using Eisenstein series and a comparison method. In addition, we construct genuine central characters of the metaplectic torus in the simply-laced case.
We prove that the local Rankin--Selberg integrals for principal series representations of the general linear groups agree with certain simple integrals over the Rankin--Selberg subgroups, up to certain constants given by the local gamma factors.
A notion of rank developed previously by the author is used to describe two correspondences which classify small unitary representations of split real forms of $E_6$ and $E_7$. The case of small principal series is studied in detail.
We construct, for any finite commutative ring $R$, a family of representations of the general linear group $\mathrm{GL}_n(R)$ whose intertwining properties mirror those of the principal series for $\mathrm{GL}_n$ over a finite field.
In this paper, we study the reducibility of degenerate principal series of the simple, simply-connected exceptional group of type $E_6$. Furthermore, we calculate the maximal semi-simple subrepresentation and quotient of these representations.
In this paper, we study the reducibility of degenerate principal series of the simple, simply-connected exceptional group of type $E_8$. Furthermore, we calculate the maximal semi-simple subrepresentation and quotient of these representations for almost all cases.
We propose a new approach for the study of the Jacquet module of a Harish-Chandra module of a real semisimple Lie group. Using this method, we investigate the structure of the Jacquet module of principal series representation generated by the trivial $K$-type.
We study a contraction of the principal series representations of a noncompact semisimple Lie group to the unitary irreducible representations of its Cartan motion group by means of the Berezin-Weyl quantization on the coadjoint orbits associated with these representations.
We obtain an irreducibility criterion for generalized principal series, extending known and frequently employed results for principal series. Our approach rests on a newly observed semi-direct product decomposition of the relative Weyl group and its action on generalized principal series, in conjunction with the theory of Jacquet module. We thus circumvent the obstacle that the Weyl group of a general Levi subgroup is not a Coxeter group. Our statements on irreducibility are formulated in terms of a subgroup of the Knapp--Stein R-group, which arises naturally from our decomposition of the Weyl…
Let F be a non-archimedean local field and let O be its ring of integers. We give a complete description of the irreducible constituents of the restriction of the unramified principal series representations of GL(3,F) to GL(3,O).
In this paper, we study the degenerate principal series of a split, simply-connected, simple p-adic group of type $E_7$. We determine the points of reducibility and the maximal semi-simple subrepresentation at each point.
In this paper, following a similar procedure developed by Buttcane and Miller in \cite{MillerButtcane} for $SL(3,\RR)$, the $(\frakg,K)$-module structure of the minimal principal series of real reductive Lie groups $SU(2,1)$ is described explicitly by realizing the representations in the space of $K$-finite functions on $U(2)$. Moreover, by combining combinatorial techniques and contour integrations, this paper introduces a method of calculating intertwining operators on the principal series. Upon restriction to each $K$-type, the matrix entries of intertwining operators are represented by $Γ$…
For infinite reductive groups with Frobenius maps, we show that certain subquotients of abstract representations of the groups induced from 1-dimensional representations of Borel subgroups are irreducible.
In the following article, we give a description of the distingushed irreducible principal series representations of the general linear group over a p-adic field in terms of inducing datum. This provides a counter-example to a conjecture of Jacquet about distinction (Conjecture 1 in U.K Anandavardhanan, "Distinguished non-Archimedean representations ", Proc. Hyderabad Conference on Algebra and Number Theory, 2005, 183-192).
In this paper we study the reducibility, composition series and unitarity of the components of some degenerate principal series representations of $\RMO(p,q)$, $\RMU(p,q)$ and $\SP(p,q)$. This is done by realizing these representations in paces of homogeneous functions on light cones and writing down the explicit actions of the universal enveloping algebra of the group concerned.
Let G be a split reductive algebraic group over a non-archimedean local field. We study the representation theory of a central extension $\G$ of G by a cyclic group of order n, under some mild tameness assumptions on n. In particular, we focus our attention on the development of the theory of principal series representations for $\G$ and applications of this theory.
On restriction to the maximal compact subgroup $\mathrm{GL}(3,\mathscr{R})$, an unramified principal series representation of the $p$-adic group $\mathrm{GL}(3,F)$ decomposes into a direct sum of finite-dimensional irreducibles each appearing with finite multiplicity. We describe a coarser decomposition into components which, although reducible in general, capture the equivalences between the irreducible constituents.
Let G be a split connected reductive group over a local non-archimedean field. We classify all irreducible complex G-representations in the principal series, irrespective of the (dis)connectedness of the centre of G. This leads to a local Langlands correspondence for principal series representations, which satisfies all expected properties. We also prove that the ABPS conjecture about the geometric structure of Bernstein components is valid throughout the principal series of G.
Recently, Iwahori-Hecke algebras were associated to Kac-Moody groups over non-Archimedean local fields. In a previous paper, we introduced principal series representations for these algebras and partially generalized Kato's irreducibility criterion. In this paper, we study how some of these representations decompose when they are reducible and deduce information on the irreducible representations of these algebras.
For a finite field extension $F/\mathbb{Q}_p$ we associate a coefficient system attached on the Bruhat-Tits tree of $G:= {\rm GL}_2(F)$ to a locally analytic representation $V$ of $G$. This is done in analogy to the work of Schneider and Stuhler for smooth representations. This coefficient system furnishes a chain-complex which is shown, in the case of locally analytic principal series representations $V$, to be a resolution of $V$.
We study the structure of the $(\mathfrak{g},K)$-modules of the principal series representations of $SL(3,\mathbb{R})$ and $Sp(2,\mathbb{R})$ induced from minimal parabolic subgroups, in the case when the infinitesimal character is nonsingular. The composition factors of these modules are known by Kazhdan-Lusztig-Vogan conjecture. In this paper, we give complete descriptions of the socle filtrations of these modules.
We decompose the restriction of ramified principal series representations of the $p$-adic group $\mathrm{GL}(3,\mathrm{k})$ to its maximal compact subgroup $K=\mathrm{GL}(3,\mathscr{R})$. Its decomposition is dependent on the degree of ramification of the inducing characters and can be characterized in terms of filtrations of the Iwahori subgroup in $K$. We establish several irreducibility results and illustrate the decomposition with some examples.
We give a characterization of a generalized Whittaker model of a degenerate principal series representation of $GL(n,\R)$ as the kernel of some differential operators. By this characterization, we investigate some examples on $GL(4,\R)$. We obtain the dimensions of the generalized Whittaker models and give their basis in terms of hypergeometric functions of one and two variables. We show the multiplicity one of the generalized Whittaker models by using the theory of hypergeometric functions.
Let $G$ be an irreducible Hermitian Lie group and $D=G/K$ its bounded symmetric domain in $\mathbb C^d$ of rank $r$. Each $γ$ of the Harish-Chandra strongly orthogonal roots $\{γ_1, \cdots, γ_r\}$ defines a Heisenberg parabolic subgroup $P=MAN$ of $G$. We study the principal series representations $\Ind_P^G(1\otimes e^ν\otimes 1)$ of $G$ induced from $P$. We find the complementary series, reduction points, and unitary subrepresentations in this family of representations.
We construct all cuspidal l-modular representations of a unitary group in three variables attached to an unramified extension of local fields of odd residual characteristic p with l\neq p. We describe the l-modular principal series and show that the supercuspidal support of an irreducible l-modular representation is unique up to conjugacy.
Three questions about the intertwining operators for the generalized principal series on a symmetric R-space are solved : description of the functional kernel, both in the compact and the non-compact picture, domain of convergence, meromorphic continuation. A large use is made of the theory of positive Jordan triple systems. The meromorphic continuation of the intertwining integral is achieved via a Bernstein-Sato identity, and a precise description of the poles is obtained.
We apply techniques introduced by Clerc, Kobayashi, Orsted and Pevzner to study the degenerate principal series of Sp(n,C). An explicit description of the K-types is provided and Knapp-Stein normalised operators are realised a symplectic Fourier transforms, and their K-spectrum explicitely computed. Reducibility phenomena are analysed in terms of K-types and eigenvalues of intertwining operators. We also construct a new model for these representations, in which Knapp-Stein intertwiners take an algebraic form.
We study $K$-types of degenerate principal series of ${\rm Sp}(n,\mathbb{C})$ by using two realisations of these infinite-dimensional representations. The first model we use is the classical compact picture; the second model is conjugate to the non-compact picture via an appropriate partial Fourier transform. In the first case we find a family of $K$-finite vectors that can be expressed as solutions of specific hypergeometric differential equations; the second case leads to a family of $K$-finite vectors whose expressions involve Bessel functions.
Let $G$ be a split connected reductive group over a finite extension $F$ of $Q_p$. We determine the extensions between unitary continuous $p$-adic and smooth mod $p$ principal series of $G(F)$ in the generic case. In order to do so, we compute Emerton's delta-functor $\mathrm{H^\bullet Ord}_{B(F)}$ of derived ordinary parts with respect to a Borel subgroup on certain induced representations of $G(F)$ using a Bruhat filtration. These extensions come into play in the $p$-adic and mod $p$ Langlands programs.
We study the structure of minimal parabolic subgroups of the classical infinite dimensional real simple Lie groups, corresponding to the classical simple direct limit Lie algebras. This depends on the recently developed structure of parabolic subgroups and subalgebras that are not necessarily direct limits of finite dimensional parabolics. We then discuss the use of that structure theory for the infinite dimensional analog of the classical principal series representations. We look at the unitary representation theory of the classical lim--compact groups $U(\infty)$, $SO(\infty)$ and $Sp(\infty…
Let $\mathcal{G}$ be a split reductive $p$-adic group with connected centre. We show that each Bernstein block in the principal series of $\mathcal{G}$ admits a definite geometric structure, namely that of an extended quotient. For the Iwahori-spherical block, this extended quotient has the form $T//W$ where $T$ is a maximal torus in the Langlands dual group of $\mathcal{G}$ and $W$ is the Weyl group of $\mathcal{G}$.
The geometric conjecture developed by the authors in [1,2,3,4] applies to the smooth dual Irr(G) of any reductive p-adic group G. It predicts a definite geometric structure - the structure of an extended quotient - for each component in the Bernstein decomposition of Irr(G). In this article, we prove the geometric conjecture for the principal series in any split connected reductive p-adic group G. The proof proceeds via Springer parameters and Langlands parameters. As a consequence of this approach, we establish strong links with the local Langlands correspondence. One important feature of our…
Let $X$ be a homogeneous space of a real reductive Lie group $G$. It was proved by T. Kobayashi and T. Oshima that the regular representation $C^{\infty}(X)$ contains each irreducible representation of $G$ at most finitely many times if a minimal parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$ has an open orbit in $X$, or equivalently, if the number of $P$-orbits on $X$ is finite. In contrast to the minimal parabolic case, for a general parabolic subgroup $Q$ of $G$, we find a new example that the regular representation $C^{\infty}(X)$ contains degenerate principal series representations induced from $Q$ with i…
We complete the results of a previous article. Let $G$ be a split connected reductive group over a finite extension $F$ of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. When $F=\mathbb{Q}_p$, we determine the extensions between unitary continuous $p$-adic and smooth mod $p$ principal series of $G(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ without assuming the centre of $G$ connected nor the derived group of $G$ simply connected. This shows a new phenomenon: there may exist several non-isomorphic non-split extensions between two distinct principal series. We also complete the computations of self-extensions of a principal series in the non-generic cas…
For p odd, the Lie group SO_0(p+1,p+1) has a family of unitary degenerate principal series representations realized on the space of real (p+1) by (p+1) skew symmetric matrices, similar to the Stein's complementary series for SL(2n,C) or Speh's representation for SL(2n,R). We consider their restriction on the subgroup G= SO(p+1,p) and prove that they are still irreducible and is equivalent to (a unitarization of) the principal series representation of G, and also irreducible under a maximal parabolic subgroup of G.
The non-degenerate spherical principal series of quantum Harish-Chandra modules is constructed. These modules appear in the theory of quantum bounded symmertic domains.
We construct unitary intertwiners for degenerate C*-algebraic universal principal series of SL(n+1) over a local field by explicitely normalizing standard intertwining integrals a the level of Hilbert modules.
We compute generalized Bernstein-Reznikov integrals associated with standard complex symplectic forms by studying Knapp-Stein intertwining operators between spherical degenerate principal series of complex symplectic groups.
We describe explicitly the whole structures of the $(g,K)$-modules of principal series representations of $Sp(3,R)$. We apply this result to determine the holonomic system characterizing those Whittaker functions.
Let $G_n$ denote either the group $SO(2n+1, F)$, $Sp(2n, F)$, or $GSpin(2n+1, F)$ over a non-archimedean local field of characteristic different than two. We determine all composition factors of degenerate principal series of $G_n$, using methods based on the Aubert involution and known results on irreducible subquotiens of the generalized principal series of particular type.
We combine the geometric realization of principal series representations of the author, with the Bott--Borel--Weil Theorem for direct limits of compact groups of Natarajan, Rodriguez-Carrington and the author, obtaining limits of principal series representations for direct limits of real reductive Lie groups. We introduce the notion of weakly parabolic direct limits and relate it to the conditions that the limit representations are norm--preserving representations on a Banach space or unitary representations on a Hilbert space. We specialize the results to diagonal embedding direct limit group…
We study the Schneider-Vigneras functor attaching a module over the Iwasawa algebra $Λ(N_0)$ to a $B$-representation for irreducible modulo $π$ principal series of the group $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$ for any finite field extension $F|\mathbb{Q}_p$.
We show how a certain limit of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials appears in the representation theory of semisimple groups over p--adic fields as matrix coefficients for the unramified principal series representations. The result is the nonsymmetric counterpart of a classical result relating the same limit of the symmetric Macdonald polynomials to zonal spherical functions on groups of p--adic type.
The p-adic local Langlands correspondence for GL2(Qp) attaches to any 2-dimensional irreducible p-adic representation V of the absolute Galois groups of Qp an admissible unitary representation Pi(V) of GL2(Qp). The unitary principal series of GL2(Qp) are those Pi(V) corresponding to trianguline representations. In this article, for p>2, using the machinery of Colmez, we determine the space of locally analytic vectors for all non-exceptional unitary principal series of GL2(Qp) by proving a conjecture of Emerton.
