Given a finite dimensional algebra $C$ (over an algebraically closed field) of global dimension at most two, we define its relation-extension algebra to be the trivial extension $C\ltimes \Ext_C^2(DC,C)$ of $C$ by the $C$-$C$-bimodule $\Ext_C^2(DC,C)$. We give a construction for the quiver of the relation-extension algebra in case the quiver of $C$ has no oriented cycles. Our main result says that an algebra $\tilde C$ is cluster-tilted if and only if there exists a tilted algebra $C$ such that $\tilde C$ is isomorphic to the relation-extension of $C$.
In this work we study the connection between iterated tilted algebras and m-cluster tilted algebras. We show that an iterated tilted algebra induces an m-cluster tilted algebra. This m-cluster tilted algebra can be seen as a trivial extension of another iterated tilted algebra which is derived equivalent to the original one. We give a procedure to find this new iterated tilted algebra. These m-cluster tilted algebras are quotients of higher relation extensions.
We define an operation which associates to a pair (B,M) where B is a cluster-tilted algebra and M is a B-module which lies in a local slice of B, a new cluster-tilted algebra B'. In terms of the quivers, this operation corresponds to adding one vertex (and arrows).
In this paper, we prove that relation-extensions of quasi-tilted algebras are 2-Calabi-Yau tilted. With the objective of describing the module category of a cluster-tilted algebra of euclidean type, we define the notion of reflection so that any two local slices can be reached one from the other by a sequence of reflections and coreflections. We then give an algorithmic procedure for constructing the tubes of a cluster-tilted algebra of euclidean type. Our main result characterizes quasi-tilted algebras whose relation-extensions are cluster-tilted of euclidean type.
In this paper, we compute the Frobenius dimension of any cluster tilted algebra of finite type. Moreover, we give conditions on the bounded quiver of a cluster tilted algebra $Λ$ such that $Λ$ has non-trivial open Frobenius structures.
Cluster-tilted algebras are trivial extensions of tilted algebras. This correspondence induces a surjective map from tilted algebras to cluster-tilted algebras. If B is a cluster-tilted algebra, we use the fibre of B under this map to study the module category of B. In particular, we introduce the notion of reflections of tilted algebras and define an algorithm that constructs the transjective component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of cluster-tilted algebras of tree type.
Any cluster-tilted algebra is the relation extension of a tilted algebra. We present a method to, given the distribution of a cluster-tilting object in the Auslander-Reiten quiver of the cluster category, construct all tilted algebras whose relation extension is the endomorphism ring of this cluster-tilting object.
Let C be a finite dimensional algebra of global dimension at most two. A partial relation extension is any trivial extension of C by a direct summand of its relation C-C-bimodule. When C is a tilted algebra, this construction provides an intermediate class of algebras between tilted and cluster tilted algebras. The text investigates the representation theory of partial relation extensions. When C is tilted, any complete slice in the Auslander-Reiten quiver of C embeds as a local slice in the Auslander-Reiten quiver of the partial relation extension; Moreover, a systematic way of producing part…
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors because it has been combined with "Higher Auslander Algebras Admitting Trivial Maximal Orthogonal Subcategories" (arXiv:0903.0761) together. Please see the new version of the latter paper for the details.
We give a criterion allowing to verify whether or not two tilted algebras have the same relation-extension (thus correspond to the same cluster-tilted algebra). This criterion is in terms of a combinatorial configuration in the Auslander-Reiten quiver of the cluster-tilted algebra, which we call local slice.
It is well known that the relation-extensions of tilted algebras are cluster-tilted algebras. In this paper, we extend the result to silted algebras and prove some extension of silted algebras are cluster-tilted algebras.
We study the module categories of a tilted algebra C and the corresponding cluster-tilted algebra B. We investigate how various properties of a C-module are affected when considered in the module category of B. We give a complete classification of the projective dimension of a C-module inside the module category of B. If a C-module M is rigid, we show two sufficient conditions for M to be a rigid B-module. In particular, if M is an indecomposable and rigid C-module, we prove M is always a rigid B-module.
In this paper the relationship between iterated tilted algebras and cluster-tilted algebras and relation-extensions is studied. In the Dynkin case, it is shown that the relationship is very strong and combinatorial.
We consider $m$-cluster tilted algebras arising from quivers of Euclidean type and we give necessary and sufficient conditions for those algebras to be representation finite. For the case $\widetilde{A}$, using the geometric realization, we get a description of representation finite type in terms of $(m+2)$-angulations. We establish which $m$-cluster tilted algebras arise at the same time from quivers of type $A$ and $\widetilde{A}$. Finally, we characterize representation infinite $m$-cluster tilted algebras arising from a quiver of type $\widetilde{A}$ as $m$-relations extensions of some ite…
Every cluster-tilted algebra $B$ is the relation extension $C\ltimes \text{Ext}^2_C(DC,C)$ of a tilted algebra $C$. A $B$-module is called induced if it is of the form $M\otimes_C B$ for some $C$-module $M$. We study the relation between the injective presentations of a $C$-module and the injective presentations of the induced $B$-module. Our main result is an explicit construction of the modules and morphisms in an injective presentation of any induced $B$-module. In the case where the $C$-module, and hence the $B$-module, is projective, our construction yields an injective resolution. In par…
Let C be a finite dimensional algebra with B a split extension by a nilpotent bimodule E. We provide a short proof to a conjecture by Assem and Zacharia concerning properties of mod B inherited by mod C. We show if B is a tilted algebra, then C is a tilted algebra.
Given a cluster-tilted algebra B we study its first Hochschild cohomology group HH1(B) with coefficients in the B-B-bimodule B. If C is a tilted algebra such that B is the relation extension of C by E= Ext2(DC,C), then we prove that HH1(B) is isomorphic, as a vector space, to the direct sum of HH1(C) with HH1(B,E). This yields homological interpretations for results of the first and the fourth author with M.J. Redondo.
Let $Λ$ be an Auslander's 1-Gorenstein Artinian algebra with global dimension two. If $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal 1-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then for any indecomposable module $M \in \mod Λ$, we have that the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to one if and only if so is its injective dimension and that $M$ is injective if the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to two. In this case, we further get that $Λ$ is a tilted algebra.
Over any field of positive characteristic we construct 2-CY-tilted algebras that are not Jacobian algebras of quivers with potentials. As a remedy, we propose an extension of the notion of a potential, called hyperpotential, that allows to prove that certain algebras defined over fields of positive characteristic are 2-CY-tilted even if they do not arise from potentials. In another direction, we compute the fractionally Calabi-Yau dimensions of certain orbit categories of fractionally CY triangulated categories. As an application, we construct a cluster category of type $G_2$.
Comparing the module categories of an algebra and of the endomorphism algebra of a given support $τ$-tilting module, we give a generalization of the Brenner-Butler's tilting theorem in the framework of $τ$-tilting theory. Afterwards we define $τ$-slices and prove that complete slices of tilted algebras and local slices of cluster tilted algebras are examples of complete $τ$-slices. Then we apply this concept to the study of simply connected tilted algebras. Finally, we study the one-point extensions and the split-by-nilpotent extensions of an algebra with $τ$-slices.
We define a class of finite-dimensional Jacobian algebras, which are called (simple) polygon-tree algebras, as a generalization of cluster-tilted algebras of type $\D$. They are $2$-CY-tilted algebras. Using a suitable process of mutations of quivers with potentials (which are also BB-mutations) inducing derived equivalences, and one-pointed (co)extensions which preserve singularity equivalences, we find a connected selfinjective Nakayama algebra whose stable category is equivalent to the singularity category of a simple polygon-tree algebra. Furthermore, we also give a classification of algeb…
Let $Γ$ be a split extension of a finite-dimensional algebra $Λ$ by a nilpotent bimodule $_ΛE_Λ$, and let $(T,P)$ be a pair in $\modΛ$ with $P$ projective. We prove that $(T\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ, P\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ)$ is a support $τ$-tilting pair in $\mod Γ$ if and only if $(T,P)$ is a support $τ$-tilting pair in $\mod Λ$ and $\Hom_Λ(T\otimes_ΛE,τT_Λ)=0=\Hom_Λ(P,T\otimes_ΛE)$. As applications, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition such that $(T\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ, P\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ)$ is support $τ$-tilting pair for a cluster-tilted algebra $Γ$ corresponding to a tilted algebra $Λ$; and we also get that if $T_…
In this paper we give a characterisation of trivial extension algebras in terms of quivers with relations. This result is based on a explicit description of the ideal of relations of the trivial extension of an algebra, given by the first author in the appendix. We also give a new proof of Wakamatsu's theorem in terms of their quiver and relations, which determines when two given algebras have isomorphic trivial extensions.
Given a cluster-tilted algebra B, we study its first Hochschild cohomology group HH^1(B) with coefficients in the B-B-bimodule B. If C is a tilted algebra such that B is the relation extension of C, then we show that if C is constrained, or else if B is tame, then HH^1(B) is isomorphic, as a k-vector space, to the direct sum of HH^1(C) with k^{n\_{B,C}}, where n\_{B,C} is an invariant linking the bound quivers of B and C. In the representation-finite case, HH^1(B) can be read off simply by looking at the quiver of B.
We prove that a certain pair of bimodules over two artin algebras gives rise to a triangle equivalence between the singularity categories of the two corresponding trivial extension algebras. Some consequences and an example are given.
In this paper, we show that for a Koszul $n$-homogeneous algebra $Λ$, the quadratic dual of certain twisted trivial extension is the $(n+1)$-preprojective algebra of its quadratic dual, that is, $ (Δ_νΛ)^{!,op} \simeqΠ( Λ^{ !, op })$. This is applied to the $τ$-slice algebras of stable $n$-translation algebras and gives a noncommutative version of Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand correspondence for such algebras.
For a positively graded artin algebra $A=\oplus_{n\geq 0}A_n$ we introduce its Beilinson algebra $\mathrm{b}(A)$. We prove that if $A$ is well-graded self-injective, then the category of graded $A$-modules is equivalent to the category of graded modules over the trivial extension algebra $T(\mathrm{b}(A))$. Consequently, there is a full exact embedding from the bounded derived category of $\mathrm{b}(A)$ into the stable category of graded modules over $A$; it is an equivalence if and only if the 0-th component algebra $A_0$ has finite global dimension.
Let $A= Λ\oplus C$ be a trivial extension algebra. The aim of this paper is to establish formulas for the projective dimension and the injective dimension for a certain class of $A$-modules which is expressed by using the derived functors $- \otimes^{\mathbb{L}}_ΛC$ and $\mathbb{R}\text{Hom}_Λ(C, -)$. Consequently, we obtain formulas for the global dimension of $A$, which gives a modern expression of the classical formula for the global dimension by Palmer-Roos and Löfwall that is written in complicated classical derived functors. The main application of the formulas is to give a necessary and…
Given a finite--dimensional monomial algebra $A$ we consider the trivial extension $TA$ and provide formulae, depending on the characteristic of the field, for the dimensions of the summands $HH_1(A)$ and $\Alt(DA)$ of the first Hochschild cohomology group $HH^1(TA)$. From these a formula for the dimension of $HH^1(TA)$ can be derived.
For an Artinian $(n-1)$-Auslander algebra $Λ$ with global dimension $n(\geq 2)$, we show that if $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal $(n-1)$-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then $Λ$ is a Nakayama algebra and the projective or injective dimension of any indecomposable module in $\modΛ$ is at most $n-1$. As a result, for an Artinian Auslander algebra with global dimension 2, if $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal 1-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then $Λ$ is a tilted algebra of finite representation type. Further, for a finite-dimensional algebra $Λ$ over an algebraically closed field $K$, we show that …
In this paper we define almost gentle algebras. They are monomial special multiserial algebras generalizing gentle algebras. We show that the trivial extension of an almost gentle algebra by its minimal injective co-generator is a symmetric special multiserial algebra and hence a Brauer configuration algebra. Conversely, we show that any almost gentle algebra is an admissible cut of a unique Brauer configuration algebra and as a consequence, we obtain that every Brauer configuration algebra with multiplicity function identically one, is the trivial extension of an almost gentle algebra. We sho…
We show that two well-studied classes of tame algebras coincide: namely, the class of symmetric special biserial algebras coincides with the class of Brauer graph algebras. We then explore the connection between gentle algebras and symmetric special biserial algebras by explicitly determining the trivial extension of a gentle algebra by its minimal injective co-generator. This is a symmetric special biserial algebra and hence a Brauer graph algebra of which we explicitly give the Brauer graph. We further show that a Brauer graph algebra gives rise, via admissible cuts, to many gentle algebras …
Let $B$ be the split extension of a finite dimensional algebra $C$ by a $C$-$C$-bimodule $E$. We define a morphism of associative graded algebras $φ^*:\HH^*(B)\rightarrow \HH^*(C)$ from the Hochschild cohomology of $B$ to that of $C$, extending similar constructions for the first cohomology groups made and studied by Assem, Bustamante, Igusa, Redondo and Schiffler. In the case of a trivial extension $B=C\ltimes E$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for each $φ^n$ to be surjective. We prove the surjectivity of $φ^1$ for a class of trivial extensions that includes relation extensions a…
We introduce the Hochschild extensions of dg algebras, which are $A_\infty$-algebras. We show that all exact Hochschild extensions are symmetric Hochschild extensions, more precisely, every exact Hochschild extension of a finite dimensional complete typical dg algebra is a symmetric $A_\infty$-algebra. Moreover, we prove that the Koszul dual of trivial extension is Calabi-Yau completion and the Koszul dual of exact Hochschild extension is deformed Calabi-Yau completion, more precisely, the Koszul dual of the trivial extension of a finite dimensional complete dg algebra is the Calabi-Yau comple…
A conjecture going back to the eighties claims that there are no non-trivial self-extensions of irreducible modules over symmetric groups if the characteristic of the ground field is not equal to $2$. We obtain some partial positive results on this conjecture.
We study (support) $τ$-tilting modules over the trivial extensions of finite dimensional algebras. More precisely, we construct two classes of (support)$τ$-tilting modules in terms of the adjoint functors which extend and generalize the results on (support) $τ$-tilting modules over triangular matrix rings given by Gao-Huang.
