Let $Γ$ be a split extension of a finite-dimensional algebra $Λ$ by a nilpotent bimodule $_ΛE_Λ$, and let $(T,P)$ be a pair in $\modΛ$ with $P$ projective. We prove that $(T\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ, P\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ)$ is a support $τ$-tilting pair in $\mod Γ$ if and only if $(T,P)$ is a support $τ$-tilting pair in $\mod Λ$ and $\Hom_Λ(T\otimes_ΛE,τT_Λ)=0=\Hom_Λ(P,T\otimes_ΛE)$. As applications, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition such that $(T\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ, P\otimes_ΛΓ_Γ)$ is support $τ$-tilting pair for a cluster-tilted algebra $Γ$ corresponding to a tilted algebra $Λ$; and we also get that if $T_1,T_2\in\modΛ$ such that $T_1\otimes_ΛΓ$ and $T_2\otimes_ΛΓ$ are support $τ$-tilting $Γ$-modules, then $T_1\otimes_ΛΓ$ is a left mutation of $T_2\otimes_ΛΓ$ if and only if $T_1$ is a left mutation of $T_2$.
Comparing the module categories of an algebra and of the endomorphism algebra of a given support $τ$-tilting module, we give a generalization of the Brenner-Butler's tilting theorem in the framework of $τ$-tilting theory. Afterwards we define $τ$-slices and prove that complete slices of tilted algebras and local slices of cluster tilted algebras are examples of complete $τ$-slices. Then we apply this concept to the study of simply connected tilted algebras. Finally, we study the one-point extensions and the split-by-nilpotent extensions of an algebra with $τ$-slices.
For quantum groups at a root of unity, there is a web of theorems (due to Bezrukavnikov and Ostrik, and relying on work of Lusztig) connecting the following topics: (i) tilting modules; (ii) vector bundles on nilpotent orbits; and (iii) Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in the affine Weyl group. In this paper, we propose a (partly conjectural) analogous picture for reductive algebraic groups over fields of positive characteristic, inspired by a conjecture of Humphreys.

Let G be a reductive algebraic group over a field k. When k=C, R.K.Brylinski constructed a filtration of weight spaces of a G module, using the action of a principal nilpotent element of the Lie algebra, and proved that this filtration corresponds to Lusztig's q-analogue of the weight multiplicity. Later, Ginzburg discovered that this filtration has an interesting geometric interpretation via the geometric Satake correspondence. The goal of this article is to generalize these results to positive characteristics.
Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic $p \ge 0$, and let $\mathcal{N}$ be its nilpotent cone. Under mild hypotheses, we construct for each nilpotent $G$-orbit $C$ and each indecomposable tilting vector bundle $T$ on $C$ a certain complex $S(C,T)$ of $G \times \mathbb{G}_m$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $\mathcal{N}$. We prove that these objects are (up to shift) precisely the indecomposable objects in the coheart of a certain co-$t$-structure. We then show that if $p$ is larger than the Coxeter number, then the hypercoho…
Let $T$ be a $1$-tilting module whose tilting torsion pair $({\mathcal T}, {\mathcal F})$ has the property that the heart ${\mathcal H}_t$ of the induced $t$-structure (in the derived category ${\mathcal D}({\rm Mod} \mbox{-} R)$ is Grothendieck. It is proved that such tilting torsion pairs are characterized in several ways: (1) the $1$-tilting module $T$ is pure projective; (2) ${\mathcal T}$ is a definable subcategory of ${\rm Mod} \mbox{-} R$ with enough pure projectives, and (3) both classes ${\mathcal T}$ and ${\mathcal F}$ are finitely axiomatizable. This study addresses the question of …
Let $G$ be a reductive algebraic group scheme defined over $\mathbb{F}_p$ and let $G_1$ denote the Frobenius kernel of $G$. To each finite-dimensional $G$-module $M$, one can define the support variety $V_{G_1}(M)$, which can be regarded as a $G$-stable closed subvariety of the nilpotent cone. A $G$-module is called a tilting module if it has both good and Weyl filtrations. In 1997, it was conjectured by J.E. Humphreys that when $p\geq h$, the support varieties of the indecomposable tilting modules coincide with the nilpotent orbits given by the Lusztig bijection. In this paper, we shall verif…
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $\mathcal{M}$ be an n-cluster tilting subcategory of mod$Λ$. We show that $\mathcal{M}$ has an additive generator if and only if the n-almost split sequences form a basis for the relations for the Grothendieck group of $\mathcal{M}$ if and only if every effaceable functor $\mathcal{M}\rightarrow Ab$ has finite length. As a consequence we show that if mod$Λ$ has n-cluster tilting subcategory of finite type then the n-almost split sequences form a basis for the relations for the Grothendieck group of $Λ$.
Let $G$ be a simply-connected semisimple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$, assumed to be larger than the Coxeter number. The "support variety" of a $G$-module $M$ is a certain closed subvariety of the nilpotent cone of $G$, defined in terms of cohomology for the first Frobenius kernel $G_1$. In the 1990s, Humphreys proposed a conjectural description of the support varieties of tilting modules; this conjecture has been proved for $G = \mathrm{SL}_n$ in earlier work of the second author. In this paper, we show that for any $G$, the support variety of a til…
Let C be a finite dimensional algebra with B a split extension by a nilpotent bimodule E. We provide a short proof to a conjecture by Assem and Zacharia concerning properties of mod B inherited by mod C. We show if B is a tilted algebra, then C is a tilted algebra.
This is the second paper of a series of papers on a version of categories $\mathcal{O}$ for root-reductive Lie algebras. Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a root-reductive Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic $0$ with a splitting Borel subalgebra $\mathfrak{b}$ containing a splitting maximal toral subalgebra $\mathfrak{h}$. For some pairs of blocks $\overline{\mathcal{O}}[λ]$ and $\overline{\mathcal{O}}[μ]$, the subcategories whose objects have finite length are equivalence via functors obtained by the direct limits of translation functors. Tilting objects can also…
Let C be a finite dimensional algebra with B a split extension by a nilpotent bimodule E, and let M be a $τ$-rigid C-module with U its Bongartz $τ$-complement. If the induced module, $M{\otimes_C}B$, is $τ$-rigid as a B-module, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $U{\otimes_C}B$ to be its Bongartz $τ$-complement in mod B. If M is $τ$-rigid in mod B, we again provide a necessary and sufficient condition for $U{\otimes_C}B$ to be its Bongartz $τ$-complement in mod B.
Let $G=SL(2,5)$ be the special linear group of $2 \times 2$-matrices with coefficients in the field with $5$ elements. We show that the principal block over a splitting field $K$ of characteristic two of the group algebra $KG$ has a $3$-cluster tilting module. This gives the first example of a representation-infinite block of a group algebra having a cluster tilting module and answers a question by Erdmann and Holm.
Let $Γ$ and $Λ$ be artin algebras such that $Γ$ is a split-by-nilpotent extension of $Λ$ by a two sided ideal $I$ of $Γ.$ Consider the so-called change of rings functors $G:={}_ΓΓ_Λ\otimes_Λ-$ and $F:={}_ΛΛ_Γ\otimes_Γ-.$ In this paper, we find the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a stratifying system $(Θ,\leq)$ in $\moduΛ$ can be lifted to a stratifying system $(GΘ,\leq)$ in $\modu\,(Γ).$ Furthermore, by using the functors $F$ and $G,$ we study the relationship between their filtered categories of modules and some connections with their corresponding standardly stratified algebr…
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be an abelian category and $\mathcal{B}$ be the Happel-Reiten-Smalø tilt of $\mathcal{A}$ with respect to a torsion pair. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a derived equivalence between $\mathcal{B}$ and $\mathcal{A}$, which is compatible with the inclusion of $\mathcal{B}$ into the derived category of $\mathcal{A}$. In particular, any splitting torsion pair induces a derived equivalence. We prove that for the realization functor of any bounded $t$-structure, its denseness implies its fully-faithfulness.
Let $H$ be a finite dimensional pointed rank one Hopf algebra of nilpotent type. We first determine all finite dimensional indecomposable $H$-modules up to isomorphism, and then establish the Clebsch-Gordan formulas for the decompositions of the tensor products of indecomposable $H$-modules by virtue of almost split sequences. The Green ring $r(H)$ of $H$ will be presented in terms of generators and relations. It turns out that the Green ring $r(H)$ is commutative and is generated by one variable over the Grothendieck ring $G_0(H)$ of $H$ modulo one relation. Moreover, $r(H)$ is Frobenius and …
In this article we study Cohen-Macaulay modules over one-dimensional hypersurface singularities and the relationship with the representation theory of associative algebras using methods of cluster tilting theory. We give a criterion for existence of cluster tilting objects and their complete description by homological methods, using higher almost split sequences and results from birational geometry. We obtain a large class of 2-CY tilted algebras which are finite dimensional symmetric and satisfy $τ^2=\id$. In particular, we compute 2-CY tilted algebras for simple and minimally elliptic curve …
For any set of modules S, we prove the existence of precovers (right approximations) for all classes of modules of bounded C-resolution dimension, where C is the class of all S-filtered modules. In contrast, we use infinite dimensional tilting theory to show that the class of all locally free modules induced by a non-sum-pure-split tilting module is not precovering. Consequently, the class of all locally Baer modules is not precovering for any countable hereditary artin algebra of infinite representation type.
The problem of classifying tuples of nilpotent matrices over a field under simultaneous conjugation is considered "hopeless". However, for any given matrix order over a finite field, the number of concerned orbits is always finite. This paper gives a closed formula for the number of absolutely indecomposable orbits using the same methodology as Hua [5]; those orbits are non-splittable over field extensions. As a consequence, those numbers are always polynomials in the cardinality of the base field with integral coefficients. It is conjectured that those coefficients are always non-negative.
We show that a properly stratified algebra is Gorenstein if and only if the characteristic tilting module coincides with the characteristic cotilting module. We further show that properly stratified Gorenstein algebras $A$ enjoy strong homological properties such as all Gorenstein projective modules being properly stratified and all endomorphism rings $\operatorname{End}_A(Δ(i))$ being Frobenius algebras. We apply our results to the study of properly stratified algebras that are minimal Auslander-Gorenstein algebras in the sense of Iyama-Solberg and calculate under suitable conditions their Ri…
We study the representation theory of Dynkin quivers of type A in abstract stable homotopy theories, including those associated to fields, rings, schemes, differential-graded algebras, and ring spectra. Reflection functors, (partial) Coxeter functors, and Serre functors are defined in this generality and these equivalences are shown to be induced by universal tilting modules, certain explicitly constructed spectral bimodules. In fact, these universal tilting modules are spectral refinements of classical tilting complexes. As a consequence we obtain split epimorphisms from the spectral Picard g…
Let T be a tilting object in a triangulated category equivalent to the bounded derived category of a hereditary abelian category with finite dimensional homomorphism spaces and split idempotents. This text investigates the strong global dimension, in the sense of Ringel, of the endomorphism algebra of T. This invariant is expressed using the infimum of the lengths of the sequences of tilting objects successively related by tilting mutations and where the last term is T and the endomorphism algebra of the first term is quasi-tilted. It is also expressed in terms of the hereditary abelian genera…
Let X be an F-rational nilpotent element in the Lie algebra of a connected and reductive group G defined over the ground field F. Suppose that the Lie algebra has a non-degenerate invariant bilinear form. We show that the unipotent radical of the centralizer of X is F-split. This property has several consequences. When F is complete with respect to a discrete valuation with either finite or algebraically closed residue field, we deduce a uniform proof that G(F) has finitely many nilpotent orbits in Lie(G)(F). When the residue field is finite, we obtain a proof that nilpotent orbital integrals …
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a $2$-Calabi-Yau triangulated category with two cluster tilting subcategories $\mathscr{T}$ and $\mathscr{U}$. Results by Demonet-Iyama-Jasso and Jørgensen-Yakimov known as tropical duality says that the index with respect to $\mathscr{T}$ provides an isomorphism between the split Grothendieck groups of $\mathscr{U}$ and $\mathscr{T}$. We also have the notion of $c$-vectors, which using tropical duality have been proven to have sign coherence, and to be recoverable as dimension vectors of modules in a module category. The notion of triangulated categories extends to the no…
A finite-dimensional Lie algebra $L$ over a field $F$ is called an $A$-algebra if all of its nilpotent subalgebras are abelian. This is analogous to the concept of an $A$-group: a finite group with the property that all of its Sylow subgroups are abelian. These groups were first studied in the 1940s by Philip Hall, and are still studied today. Rather less is known about $A$-algebras, though they have been studied and used by a number of authors. The purpose of this paper is to obtain more detailed results on the structure of solvable Lie $A$-algebras. It is shown that they split over each term…
In this expository paper, we present a construction of tree modules and combine it with (infinite dimensional) tilting theory and relative Mittag-Leffler conditions in order to explore limits of the approximation theory of modules. We also present a recent generalization of this construction due to Saroch which applies to factorization properties of maps, and yields a solution of an old problem by Auslander concerning existence of almost split sequences.
Let $F$ be a local non-archimedian field and let $G$ be a group of points of a split reductive group over $F$. For a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$ we set $X_P=G/[P,P]$. For any two parabolics $P$ and $Q$ with the same Levi component $M$ we construct an explicit unitary isomorphism $L^2(X_P)\to L^2(X_Q)$ (which depends on a choice of an additive character of $F$). The formula for the above isomorphism involves the action of the principal nilpotent element in the Langlands dual group of $M$ on the unipotent radicals of the corresponding dual parabolics. We use the above isomorphisms to define a …
Let $\mathrm G / F$ be a reductive split $p$-adic group and let $\mathrm U$ be the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup. We study the cohomology with trivial $\mathbb Z_p$-coefficients of the profinite nilpotent group $N = \mathrm U(\mathcal O_F)$ and its Lie algebra $\mathfrak n$, by extending a classical result of Kostant to our integral $p$-adic setup. The techniques used are a combination of results from group theory, algebraic groups and homological algebra.
The notion of defining relations is well-defined for any nilpotent Lie algebra. Therefore a conventional way to present a simple Lie algebra G is by splitting it into the direct sum of a commutative Cartan subalgebra and two maximal nilpotent subalgebras (positive and negative) and together the generators of both these nilpotent subalgebras together generate G. Though there are many relations between these generators, they are neat (Serre relations). It is possible to determine the relations for generators of different type, e.g, with the principal embeddings of sl(2) into G one can associate …
Let $\mathbf{G}$ be a connected split reductive group over a field of characteristic zero or sufficiently large characteristic, $γ_0\in(\operatorname{Lie}\mathbf{G})((t))$ be any topologically nilpotent regular semisimple element, and $γ=tγ_0$. Using methods from $p$-adic orbital integrals, we show that the number of components of the Iwahori affine Springer fiber over $γ$ modulo $Z_{\mathbf{G}((t))}(γ)$ is equal to the order of the Weyl group.
Let Q be a finite quiver without oriented cycles, and let $Λ$ be the corresponding preprojective algebra. Let g be the Kac-Moody Lie algebra with Cartan datum given by Q, and let W be its Weyl group. With w in W is associated a unipotent cell N^w of the Kac-Moody group with Lie algebra g. In previous work we proved that the coordinate ring \C[N^w] of N^w is a cluster algebra in a natural way. A central role is played by generating functions \vphi_X of Euler characteristics of certain varieties of partial composition series of X, where X runs through all modules in a Frobenius subcategory C_w o…
We show that, for an arbitrary quasi-reductive Lie superalgebra with a triangular decomposition and a character $ζ$ of the nilpotent radical, the associated Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ sends Verma modules to standard Whittaker modules provided the latter exist. As a consequence, this gives a complete solution to the problem of determining the composition factors of the standard Whittaker modules in terms of composition factors of Verma modules in the category $\mathcal O$. In the case of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras, we show that the Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ and its target category, respect…
Let G denote a connected, quasi-split reductive group over a field F that is complete with respect to a discrete valuation and that has a perfect residue field. Under mild hypotheses, we produce a subset of the Lie algebra g(F) that picks out a G(F)-conjugacy class in every stable, regular, topologically nilpotent conjugacy class in g(F). This generalizes an earlier result obtained by DeBacker and one of the authors under stronger hypotheses. We then show that if F is p-adic, then the characteristic function of this set behaves well with respect to endoscopic transfer.
