In this paper we consider the class $\mathcal{A}$ of those solutions $u(x,t)$ to the conjugate heat equation $\frac{d}{dt}u = -Δu + Ru$ on compact Kähler manifolds $M$ with $c_1 > 0$ (where $g(t)$ changes by the unnormalized Kähler Ricci flow, blowing up at $T < \infty$), which satisfy Perelman's differential Harnack inequality on $[0,T)$. We show $\mathcal{A}$ is nonempty. If $|\ric(g(t))| \le \frac{C}{T-t}$, which is alaways true if we have type I singularity, we prove the solution $u(x,t)$ satisfies the elliptic type Harnack inequlity, with the constants that are uniform in time. If the flow $g(t)$ has a type I singularity at $T$, then $\mathcal{A}$ has excatly one element.
We prove Gaussian type bounds for the fundamental solution of the conjugate heat equation evolving under the Ricci flow. As a consequence, for dimension 4 and higher, we show that the backward limit of type I $κ$-solutions of the Ricci flow must be a non-flat gradient shrinking Ricci soliton. This extends Perelman's previous result on backward limits of $κ$-solutions in dimension 3, in which case that the curvature operator is nonnegative (follows from Hamilton-Ivey curvature pinching estimate). The Gaussian bounds that we obtain on the fundamental solution of the conjugate heat equation under…
In this article we derive Harnack estimates for conjugate heat kernel in an abstract geometric flow. Our calculation involves a correction term D. When D is nonnegative, we are able to obtain a Harnack inequality. Our abstract formulation provides a unified framework for some known results, in particular including corresponding results of Ni, Perelman, and Tran as special cases. Moreover it leads to new results in the setting of Ricci-Harmonic flow and mean curvature flow in Lorentzian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature.
We prove certain localized and global differential Harnack inequality for all positive solutions to the geometric conjugate heat equation coupled to the forward in time Ricci flow. In this case, the diffusion operator is perturbed with the curvature operator, precisely, the Laplace-Beltrami operator is replaced with "$ Δ- R(x,t)$", where $R$ is the scalar curvature of the Ricci flow, which is well generalised to the case of nonlinear heat equation with potential. Our estimates improve on some well known results by weakening the curvature constraints. As a by product, we obtain some Li-Yau type…
We establish a point-wise gradient estimate for $all$ positive solutions of the conjugate heat equation. This contrasts to Perelman's point-wise gradient estimate which works mainly for the fundamental solution rather than all solutions. Like Perelman's estimate, the most general form of our gradient estimate does not require any curvature assumption. Moreover, assuming only lower bound on the Ricci curvature, we also prove a localized gradient estimate similar to the Li-Yau estimate for the linear Schrödinger heat equation. The main difference with the linear case is that no assumptions on th…
In this paper, we derive a Sobolev inequality along an extended Ricci flow and prove a point-wise Guassian type bound for the fundamental solutions of the conjugate heat equation under the flow.
In this paper, we derive a general evolution formula for possible Harnack quantities. As a consequence, we prove several differential Harnack inequalities for positive solutions of backward heat-type equations with potentials (including the conjugate heat equation) under the Ricci flow. We shall also derive Perelman's Harnack inequality for the fundamental solution of the conjugate heat equation under the Ricci flow.
In this paper we will prove a maximum principle for the solutions of linear parabolic equation on complete non-compact manifolds with a time varying metric. We will prove the convergence of the Neumann Green function of the conjugate heat equation for the Ricci flow in $B_k\times (0,T)$ to the minimal fundamental solution of the conjugate heat equation as $k\to\infty$. We will prove the uniqueness of the fundamental solution under some exponential decay assumption on the fundamental solution. We will also give a detail proof of the convergence of the fundamental solutions of the conjugate heat…
In this paper we investigate the small time heat kernel asymptotics on the cut locus on a class of surfaces of revolution, which are the simplest 2-dimensional Riemannian manifolds different from the sphere with non trivial cut-conjugate locus. We determine the degeneracy of the exponential map near a cut-conjugate point and present the consequences of this result to the small time heat kernel asymptotics at this point. These results give a first example where the minimal degeneration of the asymptotic expansion at the cut locus is attained.

The paper considers the Ricci flow, coupled with the harmonic map flow between two manifolds. We derive estimates for the fundamental solution of the corresponding conjugate heat equation and we prove an analog of Perelman's differential Harnack inequality. As an application, we find a connection between the entropy functional and the best constant in the Sobolev imbedding theorem in $\mathbb{R}^n$.
We characterize the conjugate linearized Ricci flow and the associated backward heat kernel on closed three--manifolds of bounded geometry. We discuss their properties, and introduce the notion of Ricci flow conjugated constraint sets which characterizes a way of Ricci flow averaging metric dependent geometrical data. We also provide an integral representation of the Ricci flow metric itself and of its Ricci tensor in terms of the heat kernel of the conjugate linearized Ricci flow. These results, which readily extend to closed n-dimensional manifolds, yield for various conservation laws, monot…
Let $(M,g(t))$, $0\le t\le T$, $\partial M\neϕ$, be a compact $n$-dimensional manifold, $n\ge 2$, with metric $g(t)$ evolving by the Ricci flow such that the second fundamental form of $\partial M$ with respect to the unit outward normal of $\partial M$ is uniformly bounded below on $\partial M\times [0,T]$. We will prove a global Li-Yau gradient estimate for the solution of the generalized conjugate heat equation on $M\times [0,T]$. We will give another proof of Perelman's Li-Yau-Hamilton type inequality for the fundamental solution of the conjugate heat equation on closed manifolds without u…
We exploit an ansatz in order to construct power series expansions for pairs of conjugate functions defined on domains of Euclidean $3$--space. Convergence properties of the resulting series are investigated. Entire solutions which are not harmonic are found as well as a $2$-parameter family of examples which contains the Hopf map.
In this note we prove a new ε-regularity theorem for the Ricci flow. Let (M^n,g(t)) with t\in [-T,0] be a Ricci flow and H_{x} the conjugate heat kernel centered at a point (x,0) in the final time slice. Substituting H_{x} into Perelman's W-functional produces a monotone function W_{x}(s) of s \in [-T,0], the pointed entropy, with W_{x}(s) <= 0, and W_{x}(s) = 0 iff (M,g(t)) is isometric to the trivial flow on R^n. Our main theorem asserts the following: There exists an ε>0, depending only on T and on lower scalar curvature and μ-entropy bounds for (M,g(-T)), such that W_{x_0}(s) > -εimplies |…
We study the microlocal properties of the geodesic X-ray transform $\mathcal{X}$ on a manifold with boundary allowing the presence of conjugate points. Assuming that there are no self-intersecting geodesics and all conjugate pairs are nonsingular we show that the normal operator $\mathcal{N} = \mathcal{X}^t \circ \mathcal{X}$ can be decomposed as the sum of a pseudodifferential operator of order $-1$ and a sum of Fourier integral operators. We also apply this decomposition to prove inversion of $\mathcal{X}$ is only mildly ill-posed in dimension three or higher.
In this paper, we study how to get the Ricci expanders from W+-functional through the heat kernel estimate of the conjugate heat equation to the type III singularity of Ricci flow. The Gaussian upper and lower bounds are established for the related heat kernel in accordance to the interesting work of Cao-Zhang for the type I Rici flow.
For a sub-Riemannian manifold provided with a smooth volume, we relate the small time asymptotics of the heat kernel at a point $y$ of the cut locus from $x$ with roughly "how much" $y$ is conjugate to $x$. This is done under the hypothesis that all minimizers connecting $x$ to $y$ are strongly normal, i.e.\ all pieces of the trajectory are not abnormal. Our result is a refinement of the one of Leandre $4t\log p_t(x,y)\to -d^2(x,y)$ for $t\to 0$, in which only the leading exponential term is detected. Our results are obtained by extending an idea of Molchanov from the Riemannian to the sub-Rie…
In this paper, we study the Ricci flow on closed manifolds equipped with warped product metric $(N\times F,g_{N}+f^2 g_{F})$ with $(F,g_{F})$ Ricci flat. Using the framework of monotone formulas, we derive several estimates for the adapted heat conjugate fundamental solution which include an analog of G. Perelman's differential Harnack inequality.
We discuss a natural form of Ricci--flow conjugation between two distinct general relativistic data sets given on a compact $n\geq 3$-dimensional manifold $Σ$. We establish the existence of the relevant entropy functionals for the matter and geometrical variables, their monotonicity properties, and the associated convergence in the appropriate sense. We show that in such a framework there is a natural mode expansion generated by the spectral resolution of the Ricci conjugate Hodge--DeRham operator. This mode expansion allows to compare the two distinct data sets and gives rise to a computable …
We study the fast diffusion equation (FDE) with a linear forcing term under the Ricci flow on complete manifolds with bounded curvature and nonnegative curvature operator. We prove Aronson-Bénilan and Li-Yau-Hamilton type differential Harnack estimates for positive solutions of the FDE. In addition, we use similar method to prove certain Li-Yau-Hamilton estimates for the heat equation and conjugate heat equation which extend those obtained by X. Cao and R. Hamilton, X. Cao, and S. Kuang and Q. Zhang to noncompact setting.
