We classify nilmanifolds with an invariant symplectic half-flat structure. We solve the half-flat evolution equations in one example, writing down the resulting Ricci-flat metric. We study the geometry of the orbit space of 6-manifolds with an SU(3)-structure preserved by a U(1) action, giving characterizations in the symplectic half-flat and integrable case.
In the present paper we study six dimensional solvable Lie algebras with special emphasis on those admitting a symplectic structure. We list all the symplectic structures that they admit and we compute their Betti numbers finding some properties about the codimension of the nilradical. Next, we consider the conjecture of Guan about step of nilpotency of a symplectic solvmanifold finding that it is true for all six dimensional unimodular solvable Lie algebras. Finally, we consider some cohomologies for symplectic manifolds introduced by Tseng and Yau in the context of symplectic Hogde theory an…
By a special symplectic connection we mean a torsion free connection which is either the Levi-Civita connection of a Bochner-Kähler metric of arbitrary signature, a Bochner-bi-Lagrangian connection, a connection of Ricci type or a connection with special symplectic holonomy. A manifold or orbifold with such a connection is called special symplectic. We show that the symplectic reduction of (an open cell of) a parabolic contact manifold by a symmetry vector field is special symplectic in a canonical way. Moreover, we show that any special symplectic manifold or orbifold is locally equivalent to…
It is known that there are 34 classes of isomorphic connected simply connected six-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups. Of these, only 26 classes suppose left-invariant symplectic structures \cite{Goze-Khakim-Med}. In \cite{CFU2} it is shown that 14 classes of symplectic six-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups suppose compatible complex structures and, therefore, define pseudo-Kähler metrics. In this paper we show that on the remaining 12 classes of six-dimensional nilpotent symplectic Lie groups there are left-invariant almost pseudo-Kähler metrics, and we study their geometrical properties.
We analyze symplectic forms on six dimensional real solvable and non-nilpotent Lie algebras. More precisely, we obtain all those algebras endowed with a symplectic form that decompose as the direct sum of two ideals or are indecomposable solvable algebras with a four dimensional nilradical.
Given an integer b and a finitely presented group G we produce a compact symplectic six-manifold with c_1 = 0, b_2 > b, b_3 > b and fundamental group G. In the simply-connected case we can also arrange for b_3 = 0; in particular these examples are not diffeomorphic to Kähler manifolds with c_1 = 0. The construction begins with a certain orientable four-dimensional hyperbolic orbifold assembled from right-angled 120-cells. The twistor space of the hyperbolic orbifold is a symplectic Calabi-Yau orbifold; a crepant resolution of this last orbifold produces a smooth symplectic manifold with the re…
By results of the author there exists a projective (holomorphic) symplectic desingularization of the moduli space of rank-two torsion-free sheaves on a genus-two Jacobian with $c_1=0$ and $c_2=2$. This desingularization has a natural map to the self-product of the Jacobian. We show that the fiber over $(0,0)$ is a 6-dimensional projective irreducible symplectic variety (and hence a 12-dimensional compact Hyperkahler manifold) with second Betti number equal to 8. Thus it is not deformation equivalent to any of the (few) known examples of irreducible symplectic varieties, even up to birational e…
We provide an alternative method for obtaining of compatible Poisson structures on Lie groups by means of the adjoint representations of Lie algebras. In this way, we calculate some compatible Poisson structures on four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups. Then using Magri-Morosi's theorem we obtain new bi-Hamiltonian systems with four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups as phase spaces.
There are five six-dimensional nilpotent Lie groups G, which do not admit neither symplectic, nor complex structures and, therefore, can be neither almost pseudo-Kahler, nor almost Hermitian. In this work, these Lie groups are being studied. The aim of the paper is to define new left-invariant geometric structures on the Lie groups under consideration that compensate, in some sense, the absence of symplectic and complex structures. New examples of multiparametric families of metrics of signature (3,3) and almost para-complex pseudo-Riemannian half-flat structures on six-dimensional nilmanifold…
We investigate special lcs and twisted Hamiltonian torus actions on strict lcs manifolds and characterize them geometrically in terms of the minimal presentation. We prove a convexity theorem for the corresponding twisted moment map, establishing thus an analog of the symplectic convexity theorem of Atiyah and Guillemin-Sternberg. We also prove similar results for the symplectic moment map (defined on the minimal presentation) whose image is then a convex cone. In the special case of a compact toric Vaisman manifold, we obtain a structure theorem.
We study the transversely metaplectic structure and the transversely symplectic Dirac operator on a transversely symplectic foliation. Moreover, we give the Weitzenbock type formula for transversely symplectic Dirac operators and we estimate the lower bound of the eigenvalues of the transversely symplectic Dirac operator on special spinors space on transverse Kahler foliations.
The notion of special symplectic connections is closely related to contact parabolic geometries due to the work of M. Cahen and L. Schwachhöfer. We remind their characterization and reinterpret the result in terms of generalized Weyl connections. The aim of this paper is to provide an alternative and more explicit construction of special symplectic connections of three types from the list. This is done by pulling back an ambient linear connection from the total space of a natural scale bundle over the homogeneous model of the corresponding contact parabolic structure.
We prove that an integrable system over a symplectic manifold, whose symplectic form is covariantly constant w.r.t. the Gauss-Manin connection, carries a natural hyper-symplectic structure. Moreover, a special Kaehler structure is induced on the base manifold.
Homogeneous compatible almost complex structures on symplectic manifolds are studied, focusing on those which are special, meaning that their Chern-Ricci form is a multiple of the symplectic form. Non Chern-Ricci flat ones are proven to be covered by co-adjoint orbits. Conversely, compact isotropy co-adjoint orbits of semi-simple Lie groups are shown to admit special compatible almost complex structures whenever they satisfy a necessary topological condition. Some classes of examples including twistor spaces of hyperbolic manifolds and discrete quotients of Griffiths period domains of weight t…
Having fixed a Kaehler class and the unique corresponding hyperkaehler metric, we prove that all special Lagrangian submanifolds of an irreducible symplectic 4-fold X are bi-Lagrangian and that they are obtained by complex submanifolds via a sort of "hyperkaehler rotation trick"; thus they retain part of the rigidity of complex submanifolds: indeed all special Lagrangian submanifolds of X turn out to be real analytic.
On a smooth manifold M, generalized complex (generalized paracomplex) structures provide a notion of interpolation between complex (paracomplex) and symplectic structures on M. Given a complex manifold (M,j), we define six families of distinguished generalized complex or paracomplex structures on M. Each one of them interpolates between two geometric structures on M compatible with j, for instance, between totally real foliations and Kahler structures, or between hypercomplex and C-symplectic structures. These structures on M are sections of fiber bundles over M with typical fiber G/H for some…
We give a method to obtain new 7-dimensional Lie algebras endowed with closed and coclosed G2-structures starting from 6-dimensional Lie algebras with symplectic half- at SU(3)-structures and half- at SU(3)- structures, respectively. Finally, we describe all the 7-dimensional Lie algebras with a closed G2-structure that are obtained with this method from the 6-dimensional solvable Lie algebras admitting a symplectic half- at SU(3)- structure.
We prove the bounded isometry conjecture of F. Lalonde and L. Polterovich for a special class of closed symplectic manifolds. As a byproduct, it is shown that the flux group of a product of these special symplectic manifold is isomorphic to the direct sum of the flux group of each symplectic manifold.
A special symplectic Lie group is a triple $(G,ω,\nabla)$ such that $G$ is a finite-dimensional real Lie group and $ω$ is a left invariant symplectic form on $G$ which is parallel with respect to a left invariant affine structure $\nabla$. In this paper starting from a special symplectic Lie group we show how to ``deform" the standard Lie group structure on the (co)tangent bundle through the left invariant affine structure $\nabla$ such that the resulting Lie group admits families of left invariant hypersymplectic structures and thus becomes a hypersymplectic Lie group. We consider the affine …
We show that symplectic forms taming complex structures on compact manifolds are related to special types of almost generalized Kähler structures. By considering the commutator $Q$ of the two associated almost complex structures $J_{\pm}$, we prove that if either the manifold is 4-dimensional or the distribution ${Im} \, Q$ is involutive, then the manifold can be expressed locally as a disjoint union of twisted Poisson leaves.
We generalise the notion of contact manifold by allowing the contact distribution to have codimension two. There are special features in dimension six. In particular, we show that the complex structure on a three-dimensional complex contact manifold is determined solely by the underlying contact distribution.
Our aim is to support the choice of two remarkable connections with torsion in a 3-Sasakian manifold, proving that, in contrast to the Levi-Civita connection, the holonomy group in the homogeneous cases reduces to a proper subgroup of the special orthogonal group, of dimension considerably smaller. We realize the computations of the holonomies in a unified way, by using as a main algebraic tool a nonassociative structure, that one of symplectic triple system.
We show there is a class of symplectic Lie algebra representations over any field of characteristic not 2 or 3 that have many of the exceptional algebraic and geometric properties of both symmetric three forms in two dimensions and alternating three forms in six dimensions. All nonzero orbits are coisotropic and the covariants satisfy relations generalising classical identities of Eisenstein and Mathews. The main algebraic result is that suitably generic elements of these representation spaces can be uniquely written as the sum of two elements of a naturally defined Lagrangian subvariety. We g…
We introduce the notion of a special complex manifold: a complex manifold (M,J) with a flat torsionfree connection \nabla such that (\nabla J) is symmetric. A special symplectic manifold is then defined as a special complex manifold together with a \nabla-parallel symplectic form ω. This generalises Freed's definition of (affine) special Kähler manifolds. We also define projective versions of all these geometries. Our main result is an extrinsic realisation of all simply connected (affine or projective) special complex, symplectic and Kähler manifolds. We prove that the above three types of sp…
We study the group of symplectic birational transformations of the plane. It is proved that this group is generated by $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$, the torus and a special map of order $5$, as it was conjectured by A. Usnich. Then we consider a special subgroup $H$, of finite type, defined over any field which admits a surjective morphism to the Thompson group of piecewise linear automorphisms of $\mathbb{Z}^2$. We prove that the presentation for this group conjectured by Usnich is correct.
Given a six-dimensional symplectic manifold $(M, B)$, a nondegenerate, co-closed four-form $C$ introduces a dual symplectic structure $\widetilde{B} = *C $ independent of $B$ via the Hodge duality $*$. We show that the doubling of symplectic structures due to the Hodge duality results in two independent classes of noncommutative U(1) gauge fields by considering the Seiberg-Witten map for each symplectic structure. As a result, emergent gravity suggests a beautiful picture that the variety of six-dimensional manifolds emergent from noncommutative U(1) gauge fields is doubled. In particular, the…
On $4$-symmetric symplectic spaces, invariant almost complex structures -- up to sign -- arise in pairs. We exhibit some $4$-symmetric symplectic spaces, with a pair of "natural" compatible (usually not positive) invariant almost complex structures, one of them being integrable and the other one being maximally non integrable (i.e. the image of its Nijenhuis tensor at any point is the whole tangent space at that point). The integrable one defines a pseudo-Kähler Einstein metric on the manifold, and the non integrable one is Ricci Hermitian (in the sense that the almost complex structure preser…
We investigate Lie algebras endowed with a complex symplectic structure and develop a method, called \emph{complex symplectic oxidation}, to construct certain complex symplectic Lie algebras of dimension $4n+4$ from those of dimension $4n$. We specialize this construction to the nilpotent case and apply complex symplectic oxidation to classify eight-dimensional nilpotent complex symplectic Lie algebras.
We study quadratic Lie algebras over a field K of null characteristic which admit, at the same time, a symplectic structure. We see that if K is algebraically closed every such Lie algebra may be constructed as the T*-extension of a nilpotent algebra admitting an invertiblederivation and also as the double extension of another quadratic symplectic Lie algebra by the one-dimensional Lie algebra. Finally, we prove that every symplectic quadratic Lie algebra is a special symplectic Manin algebra and we give an inductive classification in terms of symplectic quadratic double extensions.
The geometry that is defined by the scalars in couplings of Einstein-Maxwell theories in N=2 supergravity in 4 dimensions is denoted as special Kaehler geometry. There are several equivalent definitions, the most elegant ones involve the symplectic duality group. The original construction used conformal symmetry, which immediately clarifies the symplectic structure and provides a way to make connections to quaternionic geometry and Sasakian manifolds.
We study moduli spaces of meromorphic connections (with arbitrary order poles) over Riemann surfaces together with the corresponding spaces of monodromy data (involving Stokes matrices). Natural symplectic structures are found and described both explicitly and from an infinite dimensional viewpoint (generalising the Atiyah-Bott approach). This enables us to give an intrinsic symplectic description of the isomonodromic deformation equations of Jimbo, Miwa and Ueno, thereby putting the existing results for the six Painleve equations and Schlesinger's equations into a uniform framework.
Given an SO(3)-bundle with connection, the associated two-sphere bundle carries a natural closed 2-form. Asking that this be symplectic gives a curvature inequality first considered by Reznikov. We study this inequality in the case when the base has dimension four, with three main aims. Firstly, we use this approach to construct symplectic six-manifolds with c_1=0 which are never Kahler; e.g., we produce such manifolds with b_1=0=b_3 and also with c_2.omega <0, answering questions posed by Smith-Thomas-Yau. Examples come from Riemannian geometry, via the Levi-Civita connection on Lambda^+. The…
Which smooth compact 4-manifolds admit an Einstein metric with non-negative Einstein constant? A complete answer is provided in the special case of 4-manifolds that also happen to admit either a complex structure or a symplectic structure.
This is the last part of a series of articles on a family of geometric structures (PACS-structures) which all have an underlying almost conformally symplectic structure. While the first part of the series was devoted to the general study of these structures, the second part focused on the case that the underlying structure is conformally symplectic (PCS-structures). In that case, we obtained a close relation to parabolic contact structures via a concept of parabolic contactification. It was also shown that special symplectic connections (and thus all connections of exotic symplectic holonomy) …
We describe the structure of the Lie groups endowed with a left-invariant symplectic form, called symplectic Lie groups, in terms of semi-direct products of Lie groups, symplectic reduction and principal bundles with affine fiber. This description is particularly nice if the group is Hamiltonian, that is, if the left canonical action of the group on itself is Hamiltonian. The principal tool used for our description is a canonical affine structure associated with the symplectic form. We also characterize the Hamiltonian symplectic Lie groups among the connected symplectic Lie groups. We special…
Let (M,ω) be a symplectic manifold, and (Σ,σ) a closed connected symplectic 2-manifold. We construct a weakly symplectic form {ω^{D}}_{(Σ, σ)} on the space of immersions Σ\to M that is a special case of Donaldson's form. We show that the restriction of {ω^{D}}_{(Σ,σ)} to any orbit of the group of Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms through a symplectic embedding (Σ,σ) \to (M,ω) descends to a weakly symplectic form ω^D_{\red} on the quotient by Sympl(Σ,σ), and that the obtained symplectic space is a symplectic quotient of the subspace of symplectic embeddings S_{e}(Σ,σ) with respect to the Sympl(Σ,σ…
We propose a produre of reduction a locally conformal symplectic structure. This procedure of reduction can be applied to wide class of submanifolds. There are no local obstructions for this procedure. But there are global obstructions. We find a necessary and sufficient condition when this reduction holds in terms of the special kind of de Rham cohomology class (tangent to the characteristic foliation) of the Lee form.
We construct a model space $C(\gsp(\bR^{2n}))$ for the variety of Abelian simply transitive groups of affine transformations of type ${\rm Sp}(\bR^{2n})$. The model is stratified and its principal stratum is a Zariski-open subbundle of a natural vector bundle over the Grassmannian of Lagrangian subspaces in $\bR^{2n}$. \noindent Next we show that every flat special Kähler manifold may be constructed locally from a holomorphic function whose third derivatives satisfy some algebraic constraint. In particular global models for flat special Kähler manifolds with constant cubic form correspond to a…
The divergence-like operator on an odd symplectic superspace which acts invariantly on a specially chosen odd vector field is considered. This operator is used to construct an odd invariant semidensity in a geometrically clear way. The formula for this semidensity is similar to the formula of the mean curvature of hypersurfaces in Euclidean space.
In this paper we present a symplectic analogue of the Fueter theorem. This allows the construction of special (polynomial) solutions for the symplectic Dirac operator $D_s$, which is defined as the first-order $\mathfrak{sp}(2n)$-invariant differential operator acting on functions on ${\mathbb R}^{2n}$ taking values in the metaplectic spinor representation.
