We consider homogeneous varieties of linear algebras over an associative-commutative ring K with 1, i.e., the varieties in which free algebras are graded. Let F be a free algebra of some variety A of linear algebras over K freely generated by a finite set X, EndF be the semigroup of endomorphisms of F, and AutEndF be the group of automorphisms of the semigroup EndF. We investigate structure of the group AutEndF and its relation to the algebraical and categorical equivalence of algebras from A.
We define a wide class of R1MF-domains containing, in particular, Bezout domains, unique factorization domains, and some other domains. We show that every automorphism of semigroup EndF, where F is a free finitely generated Lie algebra over an R1MF-domain, is semi-inner. This solves the Problem 5.1 left open in [21]. As a corollary, semi-innerity of all automorphism of the category of free Lie algebras over R1MF-domains is obtained. Relations between categorical and geometrical equivalence of Lie algebras over R1MF-domains are clarified.
The group AutEndF for the variety of m-nilpotent associative algebras over R1MF-domains is described. As a consequence, a complete description of the group of automorphisms of the full matrix semigroup of n x n matrices over R1MF-domains is obtained.
We give an example of the variety of linear algebras over a Dedekind domain such that not all automorphisms of AutEndF are quasi-inner.
The results obtained generalize the previous studies of various special cases of varieties of linear algebras over infinite fields.
In this paper, we characterize the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all oriented full transformations of a finite chain, as well as the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all oriented partial transformations and the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all oriented partial permutations of a finite chain. Characterizations of the monoids of endomorphisms of the subsemigroups of all orientation-preserving transformations of the three semigroups aforementioned are also given. In addition, we compute the number of endomorphisms of each of these six semigroups.
In this paper, we characterize the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all monotone full transformations of a finite chain, as well as the monoids of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all monotone partial transformations and of the semigroup of all monotone partial permutations of a finite chain.
Let $A=A(x_{1},...,x_{n})$ be a free associative algebra in $\mathcal{A}$ freely generated over $K$ by a set $X=\{x_{1},...,x_{n}\}$, $End A$ be the semigroup of endomorphisms of $A$, and $Aut End A$ be the group of automorphisms of the semigroup $End A$. We investigate the structure of the groups $Aut End A$ and $Aut \mathcal{A}^{\circ}$, where $\mathcal{A}^{\circ}$ is the category of finitely generated free algebras from $\mathcal{A}$. We prove that the group $Aut End A$ is generated by semi-inner and mirror automorphisms of $End F$ and the group $Aut \mathcal{A}^{\circ}$ is generated by sem…
The authors [3] proved that the endomorphism semiring of a nontrivial semilattice is always subdirectly irreducible and described its monolith. Here we prove that the endomorphism semiring of a commutative inverse semigroup with at least two idempotents is always subdirectly irreducible and describe its monolith.
We describe the automorphism group of the endomorphism semigroup $\End(K[x_1,...,x_n])$ of ring $K[x_1,...,x_n]$ of polynomials over an {\it arbitrary} field $K$. A similar result is obtained for automorphism group of the category of finitely generated free commutative-associative algebras of the variety $\mathcal{CA}$ commutative algebras. This solves two problems posed by B. Plotkin (\cite{24}, Problems 12 and 15). More precisely, we prove that if $φ\in \Aut\End(K[x_1,...,x_n])$ then there exists a semi-linear automorphism $s:K[x_1,...,x_n]\to K[x_1,...,x_n]$ such that $φ(g)=s\circ g\circ s^…
In this note, we consider the semigroup $O(X)$ of all order endomorphisms of an infinite chain $X$ and the subset $J$ of $O(X)$ of all transformations $α$ such that $|Im(α)|=|X|$. For an infinite countable chain $X$, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on $X$ for $O(X) = \langle J \rangle$ to hold. We also present a sufficient condition on $X$ for $O(X) = \langle J \rangle$ to hold, for an arbitrary infinite chain $X$.
In this paper, we study partial automorphisms and, more generally, injective partial endomorphisms of a finite undirected path from Semigroup Theory perspective. Our main objective is to give formulas for the ranks of the monoids $IEnd(P_n)$ and $PAut(P_n)$ of all injective partial endomorphisms and of all partial automorphisms of the undirected path $P_n$ with $n$ vertices. We also describe Green's relations of $PAut(P_n)$ and $IEnd(P_n)$ and calculate their cardinals.
Last years a number of papers were devoted to describing automorphisms of semigroups of endomorphisms of free finitely generated universal algebras of some varieties: groups, semigroups, associative commutative algebras, inverse semigroups, modules, Lie algebras and some others. All these researches were inspired by the questions prof. B. Plotkin set in connection with so called universal algebraic geometry (see for example Arxiv:math, GM/0204245). The aim of this paper is to suggest a method of describing the group AutEnd(F) for a free finitely generated algebra F of an arbitrary variety of u…
Let $X$ be a finite or infinite chain and let $O(X)$ be the monoid of all endomorphisms of $X$. In this paper, we describe the largest regular subsemigroup of $O(X)$ and Green's relations on $O(X)$. In fact, more generally, if $Y$ is a nonempty subset of $X$ and $O(X,Y)$ the subsemigroup of $O(X)$ of all elements with range contained in $Y$, we characterize the largest regular subsemigroup of $O(X,Y)$ and Green's relations on $O(X,Y)$. Moreover, for finite chains, we determine when two semigroups of the type $O(X,Y)$ are isomorphic and calculate their ranks.
We study algebra endomorphisms and derivations of some localized down-up algebras $\A$. First, we determine all the algebra endomorphisms of $\A$ under some conditions on $r$ and $s$. We show that each algebra endomorphism of $\A$ is an algebra automorphism if $r^{m}s^{n}=1$ implies $m=n=0$. When $r=s^{-1}=q$ is not a root of unity, we give a criterion for an algebra endomorphism of $\A$ to be an algebra automorphism. In either case, we are able to determine the algebra automorphism group for $\A$. We also show that each surjective algebra endomorphism of the down-up algebra $A(r+s, -rs)$ is a…
In this paper we give a small review of some recent results of elementary equivalence of linear and algebraic groups and our last new results of elementary equivalence of categories of modules, endomorphism rings of modules, lattices of submodules of modules, and automorphism groups of modules.
We construct an exotic one-parameter semigroup of endomorphims of a symmetric cone $C$, whose generator is not the sum of a Lie group generator and an endomorphism of $C$. The question is motivated by the theory of affine processes on symmetric cones, which plays an important role in mathematical finance. On the other hand, theoretical question that we solve in this paper seems to have been implicitly open even much longer then this motivation suggests.
The inner automorphisms of a group G can be characterized within the category of groups without reference to group elements: they are precisely those automorphisms of G that can be extended, in a functorial manner, to all groups H given with homomorphisms G --> H. Unlike the group of inner automorphisms of G itself, the group of such extended systems of automorphisms is always isomorphic to G. A similar characterization holds for inner automorphisms of an associative algebra R over a field K; here the group of functorial systems of automorphisms is isomorphic to the group of units of R modulo …
The rank of a semigroup is the cardinality of a smallest generating set. In this paper we compute the rank of the endomorphism monoid of a non-trivial uniform partition of a finite set, that is, the semigroup of those transformations of a finite set that leave a non-trivial uniform partition invariant. That involves proving that the rank of a wreath product of two symmetric groups is two and then use the fact that the endomorphism monoid of a partition is isomorphic to a wreath product of two full transformation semigroups. The calculation of the rank of these semigroups solves an open questio…
Denote by PSelf(X) (resp., Self(X)) the partial (resp., full) transformation monoid over a set X, and by Sub(V) (resp., End(V)) the collection of all subspaces (resp., endomorphisms) of a vector space V. We prove various results that imply the following: (1) If X has at least two elements, then Self(X) has a semigroup embedding into the dual of Self(Y) iff card(Y) >= 2^card(X). In particular, if X has at least two elements, then there exists no semigroup embedding from Self(X) into the dual of PSelf(X). (2) If V is infinite-dimensional, then there are no embedding from (Sub(V),+) into (Sub(V),…
In this paper we prove that every automorphism of the semigroup of invertible matrices with nonnegative elements over a linearly oredered associative ring on some specially defined subgroup concides with the composition of an inner automorphism of the semigroup, an automorphism of the ring preserving the order, and a central homothety.
A module is called automorphism-invariant if it is invariant under any automorphism of its injective hull. Dickson and Fuller have shown that if $R$ is a finite-dimensional algebra over a field $\mathbb F$ with more than two elements then an indecomposable automorphism-invariant right $R$-module must be quasi-injective. In this note, we extend and simplify the proof of this result by showing that any automorphism-invariant module over an algebra over a field with more than two elements is quasi-injective. Our proof is based on the study of the additive unit structure of endomorphism rings.
The well-known Dixmier conjecture asks if every algebra endomorphism of the first Weyl algebra over a characteristic zero field is an automorphism. We bring a hopefully easier to solve conjecture, called the $γ,δ$ conjecture, and show that it is equivalent to the Dixmier conjecture. Up to checking that in the group generated by automorphisms and anti-automorphisms of $A_1$ all the involutions belong to one conjugacy class, we show that every involutive endomorphism from $(A_1,γ)$ to $(A_1,δ)$ is an automorphism ($γ$ and $δ$ are two involutions on $A_1$), and given an endomorphism $f$ of $A_1$ …
In this work we study the automorphisms of skew $PBW$ extensions and skew quantum polynomials. We use Artamonov's works as reference for getting the principal results about automorphisms for generic skew $PBW$ extensions and generic skew quantum polynomials. In general, if we have an endomorphism on a generic skew $PBW$ extension and there are some $x_i,x_j,x_u$ such that the endomorphism is not zero on this elements and the principal coefficients are invertible, then endomorphism act over $x_i$ as $a_ix_i$ for some $a_i$ in the ring of coefficients. Of course, this is valid for quantum polyno…
We use the type theory for rings of operators due to Kaplansky to describe the structure of modules that are invariant under automorphisms of their injective envelopes. Also, we highlight the importance of Boolean rings in the study of such modules. As a consequence of this approach, we are able to further the study initiated by Dickson and Fuller regarding when a module invariant under automorphisms of its injective envelope is invariant under any endomorphism of it. In particular, we find conditions for several classes of noetherian rings which ensure that modules invariant under automorphis…
The partial automorphism monoid of an inverse semigroup is an inverse monoid consisting of all isomorphisms between its inverse subsemigroups. We prove that a tightly connected fundamental inverse semigroup $S$ with no isolated nontrivial subgroups is lattice determined "modulo semilattices" and if $T$ is an inverse semigroup whose partial automorphism monoid is isomorphic to that of $S$, then either $S$ and $T$ are isomorphic or they are dually isomorphic chains relative to the natural partial order; a similar result holds if $T$ is any semigroup and the inverse monoids consisting of all isom…
Let $X$ be a projective integral scheme with endomorphism $σ$, where $σ$ is finite, but not an automorphism. We examine noncommutative ampleness of bimodules defined by $σ$. In contrast to the automorphism case, one-sided ampleness is possible. We also find that rings and bimodule algebras associated with $σ$ are not noetherian.
A fence is a particular partial order on a (finite) set, close to the linear order. In this paper, we calculate the rank of the semigroup $\mathcal{FI}_{n}$ of all order-preserving partial injections on an $n$-element fence. In particular, we provide a minimal generating set for $\mathcal{FI}_{n}$. In the present paper, $n$ is odd since this problem for even $n$ was already solved by I. Dimitrova and J. Koppitz.
We introduce the notion of Groebner S-basis of an ideal of the free associative algebra K<X> over a field K invariant under the action of a semigroup S of endomorphisms of the algebra. We calculate the Groebner S-bases of the ideal corresponding to the universal enveloping algebra of the free nilpotent of class 2 Lie algebra and of the T-ideal generated by the polynomial identity [x,y,z]=0, with respect to suitable semigroups S. In the latter case, if |X|>2, the ordinary Groebner basis is infinite and our Groebner S-basis is finite. We obtain also explicit minimal Groebner bases of these ideal…
Suppose that R is an ordered ring, G_n(R) is a subsemigroup of $GL_n(R)$, consisting of all matrices with nonnegative elements. A.V. Mikhalev and M.A. Shatalova described all automorphisms of G_n(R), where R is a linearly ordered skewfield and n>1. E.I. Bunina and A.V. Mikhalev found all automorphisms of G_n(R), if R is an arbitrary linearly ordered associative ring with 1/2, n>2. In this paper we describe automorphisms of G_n(R), if R is a commutative partially ordered ring, containing Q, n>2.
A partial automorphism of a semigroup $S$ is any isomorphism between its subsemigroups, and the set all partial automorphisms of $S$ with respect to composition is the inverse monoid called the partial automorphism monoid of $S$. Two semigroups are said to be $\cPA$-isomorphic if their partial automorphism monoids are isomorphic. A class $\K$ of semigroups is called $\cPA$-closed if it contains every semigroup $\cPA$-isomorphic to some semigroup from $\K$. Although the class of all inverse semigroups is not $\cPA$-closed, we prove that the class of inverse semigroups, in which no maximal isola…
Dixmier's famous question says the following: Is every algebra endomorphism of the first Weyl algebra, $A_1(F)$, where $F$ is a zero characteristic field, an automorphism? Let $α$ be the exchange involution on $A_1(F)$: $α(x)= y$, $α(y)= x$. An $α$-endomorphism of $A_1(F)$ is an endomorphism which preserves the involution $α$. Then one may ask the following question, which may be called the "$α$-Dixmier's problem $1$" or the "starred Dixmier's problem $1$": Is every $α$-endomorphism of $A_1(F)$ an automorphism?
Finite-dimensional square-free algebras have been completely characterized by Anderson and D'Ambrosia as certain twisted semigroup algebras over a square-free semigroup S with coefficients in a field K. D'Ambrosia extended the definition of square-free to artinian rings with unity and showed every square-free ring has an associated division ring D and square-free semigroup S. We show a square-free ring can be characterized as a twisted semigroup ring over a square-free semigroup S with coefficients in a division ring D. Also, to each square-free ring there exists a short exact sequence connect…
We introduce an algebra of instruction sequences by presenting a semigroup C in which programs can be represented without directional bias: in terms of the next instruction to be executed, C has both forward and backward instructions and a C-expression can be interpreted starting from any instruction. We provide equations for thread extraction, i.e., C's program semantics. Then we consider thread extraction compatible (anti-)homomorphisms and (anti-)automorphisms. Finally we discuss some expressiveness results.
We report the number of semigroups with 9 elements up to isomorphism or anti-isomorphism to be 52,989,400,714,478 and up to isomorphism to be 105,978,177,936,292. We obtained these results by combining computer search with recently published formulae for the number of nilpotent semigroups of degree 3. We further provide a complete account of the automorphism groups of the semigroups with at most 9 elements. We use this information to deduce that there are 148,195,347,518,186 distinct associative binary operations on an 8-element set and 38,447,365,355,811,944,462 on a 9-element set.
We show that endomorphisms of Weyl algebras over fields of characteristic zero are flat and that birational endomorphisms are automorphisms by reducing to positive characteristic. We also give examples showing that endomorphisms of Weyl algebras are not in general flat over fields of positive characteristic.
We investigate conditions under which the endomorphism ring of the Leavitt path algebra $L_{K}(E)$ possesses various ring and module-theoretical properties such as being von Neumann regular, $π$-regular, strongly $π$-regular or self-injective. We also describe conditions under which $L_{K}(E)$ is continuous as well as automorphism invariant as a right $L_{K}(E)$-module.
Let $A_1(K)=K \langle x,y | yx-xy= 1 \rangle$ be the first Weyl algebra over a characteristic zero field $K$ and let $α$ be the exchange involution on $A_1(K)$ given by $α(x)= y$ and $α(y)= x$. The Dixmier conjecture of Dixmier (1968) asks: Is every algebra endomorphism of the Weyl algebra $A_1(K)$ an automorphism? The aim of this paper is to prove that each $α$-endomorphism of $A_1(K)$ is an automorphism. Here an $α$-endomorphism of $A_1(K)$ is an endomorphism which preserves the involution $α$. We also prove an analogue result for the Jacobian conjecture in dimension 2, called $α-JC_2$.
We prove that every endomorphism of a simple quantum generalized Weyl algebra $A$ over a commutative Laurent polynomial ring in one variable is an automorphism. This is achieved by obtaining an explicit classification of all endomorphisms of $A$. Our main result applies to minimal primitive factors of the quantized enveloping algebra of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ and certain minimal primitive quotients of the positive part of $U_q(\mathfrak{so}_5)$.
