We introduce the notion of Groebner S-basis of an ideal of the free associative algebra K<X> over a field K invariant under the action of a semigroup S of endomorphisms of the algebra. We calculate the Groebner S-bases of the ideal corresponding to the universal enveloping algebra of the free nilpotent of class 2 Lie algebra and of the T-ideal generated by the polynomial identity [x,y,z]=0, with respect to suitable semigroups S. In the latter case, if |X|>2, the ordinary Groebner basis is infinite and our Groebner S-basis is finite. We obtain also explicit minimal Groebner bases of these ideals.
Standard noncommutative Gröbner basis procedures are used for computing ideals of free noncommutative polynomial rings over fields. This paper describes Gröbner basis procedures for one-sided ideals in finitely presented noncommutative algebras over fields. The polynomials defining a $K$-algebra $A$ as a quotient of a free $K$-algebra are combined with the polynomials defining a one-sided ideal $I$ of $A$, by using a tagging notation. Standard noncommutative Gröbner basis techniques can then be applied to the mixed set of polynomials, thus calculating $A/I$ whilst working in a free structure, …
In this paper we introduce an algebra embedding $ι:K< X >\to S$ from the free associative algebra $K< X >$ generated by a finite or countable set $X$ into the skew monoid ring $S = P * Σ$ defined by the commutative polynomial ring $P = K[X\times N^*]$ and by the monoid $Σ= < σ>$ generated by a suitable endomorphism $σ:P\to P$. If $P = K[X]$ is any ring of polynomials in a countable set of commuting variables, we present also a general Gröbner bases theory for graded two-sided ideals of the graded algebra $S = \bigoplus_i S_i$ with $S_i = P σ^i$ and $σ:P \to P$ an abstract endomorphism satisfyi…
In this paper we present an algorithm for computing Groebner bases of linear ideals in a difference polynomial ring over a ground difference field. The input difference polynomials generating the ideal are also assumed to be linear. The algorithm is an adaptation to difference ideals of our polynomial algorithm based on Janet-like reductions.
We establish a universal approach to solution of the word problem in the varieties of di- and tri-algebras. This approach, for example, allows to apply Groebner---Shirshov bases method for Lie algebras to solve the ideal membership problem in free Leibniz algebras (Lie di-algebras). As another application, we prove an analogue of the Poincare---Birkhoff---Witt Theorem for universal enveloping associative tri-algebra of a Lie tri-algebra (CTD^!-algebra).
To compute difference Groebner bases of ideals generated by linear polynomials we adopt to difference polynomial rings the involutive algorithm based on Janet-like division. The algorithm has been implemented in Maple in the form of the package LDA (Linear Difference Algebra) and we describe the main features of the package. Its applications are illustrated by generation of finite difference approximations to linear partial differential equations and by reduction of Feynman integrals. We also present the algorithm for an ideal generated by a finite set of nonlinear difference polynomials. If t…
An algebra $\cal{R}$ is called an extension of the algebra $M$ by $B$ if $M^2=0$, $M$ is an ideal of $\cal{R}$ and $\cal{R}$$/M\cong B$ as algebras. In this paper, by using the Gröbner-Shirshov bases, we characterize completely the extensions of $M$ by $B$. An algorithm to find the conditions of an algebra $A$ to be an extension of $M$ by $B$ is obtained.
This habilitation (German variant of a PhD on top of a PhD) thesis presents the quintessence of the ideas and experiences with Groebner Bases of Birgit Reinert. Endomorphisms of Weyl algebras are studied using bimodules. Initially, for a Weyl algebra over a field of characteristic zero, Bernstein's inequality implies that holonomic bimodules finitely generated from the right or left form a monoidal category. The most important bimodule in this paper is the graph of an endomorphism. We prove that the graph of an endomorphism of a Weyl algebra over a field of characteristic zero is a simple bimodule. The simplicity of the tensor product of the dual graph and the graph is equivalent to the Dixmier conjecture. It is also shown how the graph construction l…
Developed by Buchberger for commutative polynomial rings, Groebner Bases are frequently applied to solve algorithmic problems, such as the congruence problem for ideals. Until now, these ideas have been transmitted to different in part non-commutative and non-Noetherian algebras. Most of these approaches require an admissible ordering on terms. In this Ph.D.thesis, the concept of Groebner bases is generalized to finitely generated monoid and group rings. Reduction methods are applied to represent monoid and group elements and to describe the right-ideal congruence in the corresponding monoid a…
Monogeny classes and epigeny classes have proved to be useful in the study of direct sums of uniserial modules and other classes of modules. In this paper, we show that they also turn out to be useful in the study of direct products.
A topological space TO(S) of total orderings on any given set S is introduced and it is shown that TO(S) is compact if S is countable. The set NO(N) of all normal orderings of the nth Weyl algebra W is a closed subspace of TO(N), where N is the set of all normal monomials of W. Hence NO(N) is compact and, as a consequence of this fact and by a division theorem valid in W, we give a proof that each left ideal of W admits a universal Groebner basis.
In this paper we introduce a working generalization of the theory of Gröbner bases for algebras of partial difference polynomials with constant coefficients. One obtains symbolic (formal) computation for systems of linear or non-linear partial difference equations arising, for instance, as discrete models or by the discretization of systems of differential equations. From an algebraic viewpoint, the algebras of partial difference polynomials are free objects in the category of commutative algebras endowed with the action by endomorphisms of a monoid isomorphic to $\N^r$. Then, the investigatio…
In this paper, we consider parametric ideals and introduce a notion of comprehensive involutive system. This notion plays the same role in theory of involutive bases as the notion of comprehensive Groebner system in theory of Groebner bases. Given a parametric ideal, the space of parameters is decomposed into a finite set of cells. Each cell yields the corresponding involutive basis of the ideal for the values of parameters in that cell. Using the Gerdt-Blinkov algorithm for computing involutive bases and also the Montes algorithm for computing comprehensive Groebner systems, we present an alg…
We introduce the notions of pre-morphism and pre-derivation for arbitrary non-associative algebras over a commutative ring $k$ with identity. These notions are applied to the study of pre-Lie $k$-algebras and, more generally, Lie-admissible $k$-algebras. Associating with any algebra $(A,\cdot)$ its sub-adjacent anticommutative algebra $(A,[-,-])$ is a functor from the category of $k$-algebras with pre-morphisms to the category of anticommutative $k$-algebras. We describe the commutator of two ideals of a pre-Lie algebra, showing that the condition (Huq=Smith) holds for pre-Lie algebras. This a…
In this paper we consider reduced (non-normal) commutative noetherian rings $R$. With the help of conductor ideals and trace ideals of certain $R$-modules we deduce a criterion for a reflexive $R$-module to be closed under multiplication with scalars in an integral extension of $R$. Using results of Greuel and Knörrer this yields a characterization of plane curves of finite Cohen--Macaulay type in terms of trace ideals. Further, we study one-dimensional local rings $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ such that that their normalization is isomorphic to the endomorphism ring $\mathrm{End}_R(\mathfrak{m})$: we gi…
Let $R$ be a 2-torsion free semiprime ring and $U$ a nonzero square closed Lie ideal of $R$. In this paper it is shown that if $f$ is either an endomorphism or an antihomomorphism of $R$ such that $f(U)=U,$ then $f$ is strong commutativity preserving on $U$ if and only if $f$ is centralizing on $U.$
In this paper, we introduce the concept of centrally endo-AIP modules. We call a module M centrally endo-AIP, if the left annihilator of any fully invariant submodule N of M in the endomorphism ring S = End(M) is a centrally s-unital ideal of S. We discuss some properties of centrally endo-AIP modules. We also study the endomorphism ring of centrally endo-AIP modules and characterize quasi-Baer modules in terms of centrally endo-AIP modules
We study the algebra of conformal endomorphisms $\Cend^{G,G}_n$ of a finitely generated free module $M_n$ over the coordinate Hopf algebra $H$ of a linear algebraic group $G$. It is shown that a conformal subalgebra of $\Cend_n$ acting irreducibly on $M_n$ generates an essential left ideal of $\Cend^{G,G}_n$ if enriched with operators of multiplication on elements of $H$. In particular, we describe such subalgebras for the case when $G$ is finite.
We study zeta functions enumerating submodules invariant under a given endomorphism of a finitely generated module over the ring of ($S$-)integers of a number field. In particular, we compute explicit formulae involving Dedekind zeta functions and establish meromorphic continuation of these zeta functions to the complex plane. As an application, we show that ideal zeta functions associated with nilpotent Lie algebras of maximal class have abscissa of convergence $2$.
We give a sufficient criterion for generic local functional equations for submodule zeta functions associated to nilpotent algebras of endomorphisms defined over number fields. This allows us, in particular, to prove various conjectures on such functional equations for ideal zeta functions of nilpotent Lie lattices. Via the Mal'cev correspondence, these results have corollaries pertaining to zeta functions enumerating normal subgroups of finite index in finitely generated nilpotent groups, most notably finitely generated free nilpotent groups of any given class.
We introduce a very natural topology on the set of total orderings of monomials of any algebra having a countable basis over a field. This topological space and some notable subspaces are compact. This topological framework allows us to deduce some finiteness results about leading monomial ideals of any fixed ideal, namely: (1) the number of minimal leading monomial ideals with respect to total orderings is finite; (2) the number of leading monomial ideals with respect to degree orderings is finite; (3) the number of leading monomial ideals with respect to admissible orderings is finite under …
