Suppose given a complex projective manifold $M$ with a fixed Hodge form $Ω$. The Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangian submanifolds of $(M,Ω)$ are the geometric counterpart to semi-classical physical states, and their geometric quantization has been extensively studied. Here we revisit this theory in the equivariant context, in the presence of a compatible (Hamiltonian) action of a connected compact Lie group.
We present a new approach to special lagrangian geometry which works for Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian submanifolds of symplectic manifolds with integer symplectic forms. This leads to construction of finite dimensional moduli spaces of SBS lagrangian cycles over algebraic varieties.
Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least two. Let $M_H(r,d)$ denote the moduli space of semistable Higgs bundles on $X$ of rank $r$ and degree $d$. We prove that the compact complex Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangians of $M_H(r,d)$ are precisely the irreducible components of the nilpotent cone in $M_H(r,d)$. This generalizes to Higgs $G$-bundles and also to the parabolic Higgs bundles.
In previous papers we introduced the notion of special Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian cycles on a compact simply connected symplectic manifold with integer symplectic form, and presented the main interesting case: compact simply connected algebraic variety with an ample line bundle such that the space of Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian cycles with respect to a compatible Kahler form of the Hodge type and holomorphic sections of the bundle is finite. The main problem appeared in this way is singular components of the corresponding lagrangian shadows (or sceletons of the corresponding Weinstein domai…
The complex version of Bohr-Sommerfeld conditions is proposed. The BPU-construction (see [D.Borthwick, T. Paul and A. Uribe, Legendrian distributions with applications to the non-vanishing of Poincaré series of large weight, Invent. math, 122 (1995), 359-402, preprint hep-th/9406036] or [Andrei Tyurin, On Bohr-Sommerfeld bases, math.AG/9909084]) is generalized to this complexification. The new feature of this generalization is a spectral curve. The geometry of such curves is investigated.
We present an example of modified moduli space of special Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian submanifolds for the case when the given algebraic variety is the full flag $F^3$ for $\mathbb{C}^3$ and the very ample bundle is $K^{- \frac{1}{2}}_{F^3}$
We present a new notion of speciality which is valid for Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian submanifolds. For algebraic varieties it leads to the construction of finite dimensional moduli spaces which are algebraic starting with any ample line bundle. The construction can be exploited both in Geometric Quantization and Mirror Symmetry.
In this paper we determine in second order in the fine structure constant the energy levels of Weber's Hamiltonian admitting a quantized torus. Our formula coincides with the formula obtained by Wesley using the Schrödinger equation for Weber's Hamiltonian.
This paper presents the theory of Bohr-Sommerfeld-Heisenberg quantization of a completely integrable Hamiltonian system in the context of geometric quantization. The theory is illustrated with several examples.
An important problem in geometric quantization is that of quantizing certain classes of Lagrangian submanifolds, so-called Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangian submanifolds, equipped with a smooth half-density. A procedure for this in the complex projective setting is, roughly speaking, to apply the Szego kernel of the quantizing line bundle to a certain induced delta function supported on the submanifold. If the quantizing line bundle L is replaced by its k-th tensor power, and k tends to infinity, the resulting quantum states u_k concentrate asymptotically on the submanifold. This note deals with the …
Special Bohr - Sommerfeld geometry, first formulated for simply connected symplectic manifolds (or for simple connected algebraic varieties), gives rise to some natural problems for the simplest example in non simply connected case. Namely for any algebraic curve one can define a correspondence between holomorphic differentials and certain finite graphs. Here we ask some natural questions appear with this correspondence. It is a partial answer to the question of A. Varchenko about possibility of applications of Special Bohr -Sommerfeld geometry in non simply connected case. The russian version…
The Bohr-Sommerfeld approximation to the eigenvalues of a one-dimensional quantum Hamiltonian is derived through order $\hbar^2$ (i.e., including the first correction term beyond the usual result) by means of the Moyal star product. The Hamiltonian need only have a Weyl transform (or symbol) that is a power series in $\hbar$, starting with $\hbar^0$, with a generic fixed point in phase space. The Hamiltonian is not restricted to the kinetic-plus-potential form. The method involves transforming the Hamiltonian to a normal form, in which it becomes a function of the harmonic oscillator Hamiltoni…
In this paper, we describe Bohr-Sommerfeld rules for semi-classical completely integrable systems with 2 degrees of freedom with non degenerate singularities (Morse-Bott singularities) under the assumption that the energy level of the first Hamiltonian is non singular. The more singular case of {\it focus-focus} singularities is studied in [Vu Ngoc San, CPAM 2000] and [Vu Ngoc San, PhD 1998] The case of 1 degree of freedom has been studied in [Colin de Verdiere-Parisse, CMP 1999] Our theory is applied to some famous examples: the geodesics of the ellipsoid, the $1:2$-resonance, and Schroedinge…
In this paper we define the universal Maslov class of a Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian embedding to a simply connected pseudo - Einstein symplectic manifold. This class is an invariant of hamiltonian (isodrastic) deformations of a given Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian submanifold.
In the framework of geometric quantization we extend the Bohr-Sommerfeld rules to a full quantization theory which resembles Heisenberg's matrix theory. This extension is possible because Bohr-Sommerfeld rules not only provide an orthogonal basis in the space of quantum states, but also give a lattice structure to this basis. This permits the definition of appropriate shifting operators. As examples, we discuss the 1-dimensional harmonic oscillator and the coadjoint orbits of the rotation group.
When geometric quantization is applied to a manifold using a real polarization which is "nice enough", a result of Sniatycki says that the quantization can be found by counting certain objects, called Bohr-Sommerfeld leaves. Subsequently, several authors have taken this as motivation for counting Bohr-Sommerfeld leaves when studying the quantization of manifolds which are less "nice". In this paper, we examine the quantization of compact symplectic manifolds that can locally be modelled by a toric manifold, using a real polarization modelled on fibres of the moment map. We compute the results …
We prove that every closed Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangian submanifold $Q$ of a symplectic/Kähler manifold $X$ can be realised as a Morse-Bott minimum for some 'convex' exhausting function defined in the complement of a symplectic/complex hyperplane section $Y$. In the Kähler case, 'convex' means strictly plurisubharmonic while, in the symplectic case, it refers to the existence of a Liouville pseudogradient. In particular, $Q\subset X\setminus Y$ is a regular Lagrangian submanifold in the sense of Eliashberg-Ganatra-Lazarev.
Connecting ideas of geometric formulation of quantum mechanics with new results in symplectic geometry a new approach to geometrical quantization procedure is proposed. As a first result we verify that the correspondence between "classical" Poisson bracket and "quantum" one takes place.
In this paper we describe the spectrum of the quantum periodic Benjamin-Ono equation in terms of the multi-phase solutions of the underlying classical system (the periodic multi-solitons). To do so, we show that the semi-classical quantization of this system given by Abanov-Wiegmann is exact and equivalent to the geometric quantization by Nazarov-Sklyanin. First, for the Liouville integrable subsystems defined from the multi-phase solutions, we use a result of Gérard-Kappeler to prove that if one neglects the infinitely-many transverse directions in phase space, the regular Bohr-Sommerfeld con…
In the previous papers we present a construction of the set ${\cal U}_{SBS}$ in the direct product ${\cal B}_S \times \mathbb{P} Γ(M, L)$ of the moduli space of Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian submanifolds of fixed topological type and the projectivized space of smooth sections of the prequantization bundle $L \to M$ over a given compact simply connected symplectic manifold $M$. Canonical projections $p: {\cal U}_{SBS} \to \mathbb{P} Γ(M, L)$ and $q: {\cal U}_{SBS} \to {\cal B}_S$ are studied in the present text: first, we show that the differential ${\rm d} p$ at a given point is an isomorphism,…
By a result due to Ziltener, there exist no closed embedded Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangians inside $\mathbb CP^n$ for the prequantisation bundle whose total space is the standard contact sphere. On the other hand, any embedded monotone Lagrangian torus has a canonical nontrivial cover which is a Bohr-Sommerfeld immersion. We draw the front projections for the corresponding Legendrian lifts inside a contact Darboux ball of the threefold covers of both the two-dimensional Clifford and Chekanov tori (the former is the Legendrian link of the Harvey-Lawson special Lagrangian cone), and compute the asso…
This paper extends the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization of the spherical pendulum to a full quantum theory. This the first application of geometric quantization to a classical system with monodromy.
We define a local Riemann-Roch number for an open symplectic manifold when a complete integrable system without Bohr-Sommerfeld fiber is provided on its end. In particular when a structure of a singular Lagrangian fibration is given on a closed symplectic manifold, its Riemann-Roch number is described as the sum of the number of nonsingular Bohr-Sommerfeld fibers and a contribution of the singular fibers. A key step of the proof is formally explained as a version of Witten's deformation applied to a Hilbert bundle.
We prove, assuming that the Bohr-Sommerfeld rules hold, that the joint spectrum near a focus-focus critical value of a quantum integrable system determines the classical Lagrangian foliation around the full focus-focus leaf. The result applies, for instance, to h-pseudodifferential operators, and to Berezin-Toeplitz operators on prequantizable compact symplectic manifolds.
This small note contains two simple remarks about Bohr - Sommerfeld with respect to the anticanonical class lagrangian tori in the projective spaces, which are the most popular examples of monotone symplectic manifolds.
This paper is a short version of the author habilitation thesis. The main results have been already published but here a lot of details are clarified. As well we add some new results: we discuss some quasi classical limit of ALG(a) - quantization, mention some topological properties of the moduli space of Bohr - Sommerfeld Lagrangian cycles of fixed type and investigate some properties of the Kaehler structure on it.
In a series of papers on Bohr-Sommerfeld-Heisenberg quantization of completely integrable systems we interpreted shifting operators as quantization of functions ${\mathrm{e}}^{ \pm iθ_j}$ , where $(I_j , θ_j )$ are action angle coordinates. The aim of this paper is to show how these operators occur in geometric quantization.
In this article we prove existence of Reeb orbits for Bohr-Sommerfeld Legendrians in certain pre-quantization spaces. We give a quantitative estimate from below. These estimates are obtained by studying Floer homology for fibre-wise quadratic Hamiltonian functions on negative line bundles.
In the framework of Special Bohr - Sommerfeld geometry it was established that an ample divisor in compact algebraic variety can define almost canonically certain real submanifold which is lagrangian with respect to the corresponding Kahler form. It is natural to call it "lagrangian shadow"; below we emphasize this correspondence and present some simple examples, old and new. In particular we show that for irreducible divisors from the linear system $\vert - \frac{1}{2} K_{F^3} \vert$ on the full flag variety $F^3$ their lagrangian shadows are Gelfand - Zeytlin type lagrangian 3 - spheres.
In this paper we extend the discussion on Homological Mirror Symmetry for Fano toric varieties presented by Hori and Vafa to more general case of monotone symplectic manifolds with real polarizations. We claim that the Hori -- Vafa prediction, proven by Cho and Oh for toric Fano varieties, can be checked in much more wider context. Then the notion of Bohr - Sommerfeld with respect to the canonical class lagrangian submanifold appears and plays an important role. The discussion presents a bridge between Geometric Quantization and Homological Mirror Symmetry programmes both applied to the projec…
In this paper we construct a family of complex structures on a complex flag manifold that converge to the real polarization coming from the Gelfand-Cetlin integrable system, in the sense that holomorphic sections of a prequantum line bundle converge to delta-function sections supported on the Bohr-Sommerfeld fibers. Our construction is based on a toric degeneration of flag varieties and a deformation of Kähler structure on toric varieties by symplectic potentials.
