It is proved that the localization of an injective module E, over a valuation ring R, at a prime ideal J, is injective if J is not the subset of zero-divisors of R or if J or E is flat. It follows that localizations of injective modules over h-local Prüfer domains are injective too.
It is shown that each almost maximal valuation ring R such that every indecomposable injective module is countably generated, satisfies the following condition (C): each fp-injective module is locally injective. The converse holds if R is a domain. Moreover, it is proved that a valuation ring that sastisfies this condition (C) is almost maximal.
If $\hat{R} is the pure-injective hull of a valuation ring $R$, it is proved that $\hat{R}\otimes\_RM$ is the pure-injective of $M$, for each finitely generated module $M$. Moreover, $\hat{R}\otimes\_RM\simeq\oplus\_{1\leq k\leq n}\hat{R}/A\_k\hat{R}$, where $A\_1,...,A\_n$ is the annihilator sequence of $M$. The pure-injective hulls of uniserial or polyserial modules are also investigated. Any two pure-composition series of a countably generated polyserial module are isomorphic.
It is proved that localizations of injective $R$-modules of finite Goldie dimension are injective if $R$ is an arithmetical ring satisfying the following condition: for every maximal ideal $P$, $R_P$ is either coherent or not semicoherent. If, in addition, each finitely generated $R$-module has finite Goldie dimension, then localizations of finitely injective $R$-modules are finitely injective too. Moreover, if $R$ is a Prüfer domain of finite character, localizations of injective $R$-modules are injective.

Let $R$ be a valuation ring and let $Q$ be its total quotient ring. It is proved that any singly projective (respectively flat) module is finitely projective if and only if $Q$ is maximal (respectively artinian). It is shown that each singly projective module is a content module if and only if any non-unit of $R$ is a zero-divisor and that each singly projective module is locally projective if and only if $R$ is self injective. Moreover, $R$ is maximal if and only if each singly projective module is separable, if and only if any flat content module is locally projective. Necessary and sufficie…
In this paper, we describe the structure of the localization of Ext^{i}_{R}(R/P,M), where P is a prime ideal and M is a module, at certain Ore sets X. We first study the situation for FBN rings, and then consider matters for a large class of Auslander-Gorenstein rings. We need to impose suitable homological regularity conditions to get results in the more general situation. The results obtained are then used to study the shape of minimal injective resolutions of modules over noetherian rings.
We describe how some aspects of abstract localization on module categories have applications to the study of injective comodules over some special types of corings. We specialize the general results to the case of Doi-Koppinen modules, generalizing previous results in this setting.
The injective right comodules appearing in the minimal injective resolution of a finite-dimensional comodule need not to be of finite dimension or even quasi-finite. The obstruction here is that factor comodules of quasi-finite comodules are not in general quasi-finite. This note is mainly devoted to the study of coalgebras for which the class of all quasi-finite right comodules is closed under factor comodules. A major tool here is the local study, in the sense of abstract localization, of the comodules which have all their factors quasi-finite.
In a valuation domain $(V,M)$ every nonzero finitely generated ideal $J$ is principal and so, in particular, $J=J^t$, hence the maximal ideal $M$ is a $t$-ideal. Therefore, the $t$-local domains (i.e., the local domains, with maximal ideal being a $t$-ideal) are "cousins" of valuation domains, but, as we will see in detail, not so close. Indeed, for instance, a localization of a $t$-local domain is not necessarily $t$-local, but of course a localization of a valuation domain is a valuation domain. So it is natural to ask under what conditions is a $t$-local domain a valuation domain? The main …
Let $R$ be a ring (associative, with 1), and let $R<< a,b>>$ denote the power-series $R$-ring in two non-commuting, $R$-centralizing variables, $a$ and $b$. Let $A$ be an $R$-subring of $R<< a>>$ and $B$ be an $R$-subring of $R<< b>>$, and let $α$ denote the natural map $A \amalg_R B \to R<< a,b>>$. This article describes some situations where $α$ is injective and some where it is not. We prove that if $A$ is a right Ore localization of $R[a]$ and $B$ is a right Ore localization of $R[b]$, then $α$ is injective. For example, the group ring over $R$ of the free group on $\{1+a, 1+b\}$ is $R[ (1…
We describe the modules in the Ziegler closure of ray and coray tubes in module categories over finite-dimensional algebras. We improve slightly on Krause's result for stable tubes by showing that the inverse limit along a coray in a ray or coray tube is indecomposable, so in particular, the inverse limit along a coray in a stable tube is indecomposable. In order to do all this, we first describe the finitely presented modules over and the Ziegler spectra of iterated one-point extensions of valuation domains. Finally we give a sufficient condition for the $k$-dual of a $Σ$-pure-injective modul…
Let (R,m) be a noetherian local ring and let $\mathcal{C}$ be the class of all R-modules M which possess a reflexive submodule U such that M/U is finitely generated. For every R-module $M\in \mathcal{C}$ the canonical embedding $φ: M\to M^{oo}$ is pure-essential. We investigate in the first section under which conditions the reverse is true, for example if R is a discrete valuation ring or if R does not have nilpotent elements and M is flat. In section 2 we determine all reflexive and flat R-modules with the help of a certain analogy between the localization $R_q$ and the injective hull of R/q…
We study infinite dimensional tilting modules over a concealed canonical algebra of domestic or tubular type. In the domestic case, such tilting modules are constructed by using the technique of universal localization, and they can be interpreted in terms of Gabriel localizations of the corresponding category of quasi-coherent sheaves over a noncommutative curve of genus zero. In the tubular case, we have to distinguish between tilting modules of rational and irrational slope. For rational slope the situation is analogous to the domestic case. In contrast, for any irrational slope, there is ju…
Recently, tilting and cotilting classes over commutative noetherian rings have been classified in arXiv:1203.0907. We proceed and, for each n-cotilting class C, construct an n-cotilting module inducing C by an iteration of injective precovers. A further refinement of the construction yields the unique minimal n-cotilting module inducing C. Finally, we consider localization: a cotilting module is called ample, if all of its localizations are cotilting. We prove that for each 1-cotilting class, there exists an ample cotilting module inducing it, but give an example of a 2-cotilting class which f…
We show that a derived bi-duality dg-module is quasi-isomorphic to the homotopy limit of a certain tautological functor. This is a simple observation, which seems to be true in wider context. From the view point of derived Gabriel topology, this is a derived version of results of J. Lambek about localization and completion of ordinary rings. However the important point is that we can obtain a simple formula for the bi-duality modules only when we come to the derived world from the abelian world. We give applications. 1. we give a generalization and an intuitive proof of Efimov-Dwyer-Greenlees-…
Repetitiveness in projective and injective resolutions and its influence on homological dimensions are studied. Some variations on the theme of repetitiveness are introduced, and it is shown that the corresponding invariants lead to very good -- and quite accessible -- upper bounds on various finitistic dimensions in terms of individual modules. These invariants are the `repetition index' and the `syzygy type' of a module $M$ over an artinian ring $Λ$. The repetition index measures the degree of repetitiveness among non-projective direct summands of the syzygies of $M$, while the syzygy type o…
Let $(R, \mathfrak m)$ be a commutative noetherian local ring and $I$ an ideal of $R$. For every $R$-module $M$, $γ_I(M) = \sum\{ \operatorname{Bi} f \,|\, f \in \operatorname{Hom}_R(I,M)\}$ is called the trace of $I$ in $M$. It is easy to see that $\operatorname{Ext}_R^1(R/I,M) = 0$ always implies $IM = γ_I(M)$. If the second condition holds for all ideals $I$ of $R$, we say that $M$ is excellent. In part 1, we show a number of conditions for these modules, which are well-known for injective modules. In the second part, we examine the special case $M = R$. In particular, we show that for ever…
A definition of quasi-flat left module is proposed and it is shown that any left module which is either quasi-projective or flat is quasi-flat. A characterization of local commutative rings for which each ideal is quasi-flat (resp. quasi-projective) is given. It is also proven that each commutative ring R whose finitely generated ideals are quasi-flat is of $λ$-dimension $\le$ 3, and this dimension $\le$ 2 if R is local. This extends a former result about the class of arithmetical rings. Moreover, if R has a unique minimal prime ideal then its finitely generated ideals are quasi-projective if …
