In this paper, we study gradient Ricci expanding solitons $(X,g)$ satisfying $$ Rc=cg+D^2f, $$ where $Rc$ is the Ricci curvature, $c<0$ is a constant, and $D^2f$ is the Hessian of the potential function $f$ on $X$.
We show that for a gradient expanding soliton $(X,g)$ with non-negative Ricci curvature, the scalar curvature $R$ has at least one maximum point on $X$, which is the only minimum point of the potential function $f$. Furthermore, $R>0$ on $X$ unless $(X,g)$ is Ricci flat. We also show that there is exponentially decay for scalar curvature for $ε$-pinched complete non-compact expanding solitons.
In this paper, we prove that expanding gradient Ricci solitons with (positively) pinched Ricci curvature are trivial ones. Namely, they are either compact or flat.
We first investigate the asymptotics of conical expanding gradient Ricci solitons by proving sharp decay rates to the asymptotic cone both in the generic and the asymptotically Ricci flat case. We then establish a compactness theorem concerning nonnegatively curved expanding gradient Ricci solitons.
In this note we show that, under certain curvature positivity conditions (the weak $\operatorname{PIC}-2$ condition or the nonnegative bisectional curvature condition), a complete and noncompact expanding breather of the Ricci flow is also an expanding gradient Ricci soliton. This is the first no expanding breather theorem in the noncompact category.
In this paper, we prove some rigidity results for both shrinking and expanding Ricci solitons. First, we prove that compact shrinking Ricci solitons are Einstein if we control the maximum value of the potential function. Then, we prove some rigidity results for non-compact gradient expanding and shrinking Ricci solitons with pinched Ricci and scalar curvatures, assuming an asymptotic condition on the scalar curvature at infinity.
We introduce the notion of Canonical Expanding Ricci Soliton, and use it to derive new Harnack inequalities for Ricci flow. This viewpoint also gives geometric insight into the existing Harnack inequalities of Hamilton and Brendle.
We show that at the level of formal expansions, any compact Riemannian manifold is the sphere at infinity of an asymptotically conical gradient expanding Ricci soliton.
We produce new examples of non-Kähler complete expanding gradient Ricci solitons on trivial vector bundles over a product of Einstein manifolds with positive scalar curvature.
We study the stability of non compact steady and expanding gradient Ricci solitons. We first show that strict linear stability implies dynamical stability. Then we give various sufficient geometric conditions ensuring the strict linear stability of such gradient Ricci solitons.
We study the geometry at infinity of expanding gradient Ricci solitons of dimension greater than two with finite asymptotic curvature ratio without curvature sign assumptions. We mainly prove that they have a cone structure at infinity.
We derive a sharp lower bound for the scalar curvature of non-flat and non-compact expanding gradient Ricci soliton provided that the scalar curvature is non-negative and the potential function is proper. We also give an upper bound for the scalar curvature of noncompact expander when the Ricci curvature is nonpositive and the potential function is proper. We then provide a sufficient condition for the scalar curvature of expanding soliton being nonnegative. We also estimate the curvature of expanding soliton in dimensions three and four. As an application, we prove a gap theorem on three dime…
In previous work, the authors studied the linear stability of algebraic Ricci solitons on simply connected solvable Lie groups (solvsolitons), which are stationary solutions of a certain normalization of Ricci flow. Many examples were shown to be linearly stable, leading to the conjecture that all solvsolitons are linearly stable. This paper makes progress towards that conjecture, showing that expanding Ricci solitons with bounded curvature (including solvsolitons) are linearly stable after extension by a Gaussian soliton. As in the previous work, the dynamical stability follows from a general…
We produce new non-Kähler, non-Einstein, complete expanding gradient Ricci solitons with conical asymptotics and underlying manifold of the form $\R^2 \times M_2 \times \cdots \times M_r$, where $r \geq 2$ and $M_i$ are arbitrary closed Einstein spaces with positive scalar curvature. We also find numerical evidence for complete expanding solitons on the vector bundles whose sphere bundles are the twistor or ${\rm Sp}(1)$ bundles over quaternionic projective space.
We construct an expanding gradient Ricci soliton in dimension three over the topological manifold R x T^2 (the product of a line and a torus) that aproaches asymptotically a constant curvature cusp at one end, and a flat manifold on the other end. We prove that this is the only gradient soliton with this topology, provided the curvature is negatively pinched, -1/4 < sec < 0, at the time-zero manifold (normalizing the soliton to be born at time -1).
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a Kähler equivariant resolution of a Kähler cone, with the resolution satisfying one of a number of auxiliary conditions, to admit a unique asymptotically conical (AC) expanding gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton. In particular, it follows that for any $n\in\mathbb{N}_{0}$ and for any negative line bundle $L$ over a compact Kähler manifold $D$, the total space of the vector bundle $L^{\oplus (n+1)}$ admits a unique AC expanding gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton with soliton vector field a positive multiple of the Euler vector field if and only if $c_{1}(K…
We study the asymptotic volume ratio of non-steady gradient Ricci solitons. Moreover, a local estimate of the volume ratio is obtained for expanding solitons which satisfy $\lim_{dist(O,x)\rightarrow\infty} |Sect|\cdot dist(O,x)^2=0$. Therefore, for such a soliton, we can show that it must have $\mathbb{R}^n$ as one of its tangent cone at infinity. (Here we assume that the soliton is simply connected at infinity, has only one end and $n\geq 3$.)
In this paper we prove new classification results for nonnegatively curved gradient expanding and steady Ricci solitons in dimension three and above, under suitable integral assumptions on the scalar curvature of the underlying Riemannian manifold. In particular we show that the only complete expanding solitons with nonnegative sectional curvature and integrable scalar curvature are quotients of the Gaussian soliton, while in the steady case we prove rigidity results under sharp integral scalar curvature decay. As a corollary, we obtain that the only three dimensional steady solitons with less…
In this paper, we survey the volume growth estimates for shrinking, steady, and expanding gradient Ricci solitons. Together with the known results, we also prove some new volume growth estimates for expanding gradient Ricci solitons.
In this paper, we give a delay estimate of scalar curvature for a complete non-compact expanding (or steady) gradient Ricci soliton with nonnegative Ricci curvature. As an application, we prove that any complete non-compact expanding (or steady) gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons with positively pinched Ricci curvature should be Ricci flat. The result answers a question in case of Kähler-Ricci solitons proposed by Chow, Lu and Ni in a book.
Let $(M^n,g,\nabla f)$, $n\geq 3$, be an expanding gradient Ricci soliton with nonnegative sectional curvature whose asymptotic cone is isometric to $C(\mathbb{S}^{n-1}(c))$ where $\mathbb{S}^{n-1}(c)$ is the standard $(n-1)$-sphere of curvature $1/c^2$, with $c\in(0,1)$. We prove that if the convergence to the asymptotic cone is smooth, $(M^n,g,\nabla f)$ is rotationally symmetric. This is the expanding analogue of the Perelman conjecture on the Bryant soliton and this work is based on the proof by Brendle \cite{Bre-Rot-3d}. This has also been proved recently by Chodosh \cite{Cho-EGS}.
In this paper, the author discusses the eigenvalues and entropies under the harmonic-Ricci flow, which is the Ricci flow coupled with the harmonic map flow. We give an alternative proof of results for compact steady and expanding harmonic-Ricci breathers. In the second part, we derive some monotonicity formulas for eigenvalues of Laplacian under the harmonic-Ricci flow. Finally, we obtain the first variation of the shrinker and expanding entropies of the harmonic-Ricci flow.
The main objective of this thesis is the study of the evolution under the Ricci flow of surfaces with singularities of cone type. A second objective, emerged from the techniques we use, is the study of families of Ricci flow solitons in dimension 2 and 3. The Ricci flow is an evolution equation for Riemannian manifolds, introduced by R. Hamilton in 1982. It is from the achievements made by G. Perelman with this technique in 2002 when the Ricci flow has been established in a discipline itself, generating a great interest in the community. This thesis contains four original results. First result…
In this paper, we study the gradient Ricci soliton equation on a complete Riemannian manifold. We show that under a natural decay condition on the Ricci curvature, the Ricci soliton is Ricci-flat and ALE.
Locally, a screen integrable globally null manifold $M$ splits through a Riemannian leaf $M'$ of its screen distribution and a null curve $\mathcal{C}$ tangent to its radical distribution. The leaf $M'$ carries a lot of geometric information about $M$ and, in fact, forms a basis for the study of expanding and non-expanding horizons in black hole theory. In the present paper, we introduce a degenerate Ricci-type flow in $M'$ via the intrinsic Ricci tensor of $M$. Several new gradient estimates regarding the flow are proved.
We present two new conditions to extend the Ricci flow on a compact manifold over a finite time, which are improvements of some known extension theorems.
We show that a rescale limit at any degenerate singularity of Ricci flow in dimension 3 is a steady gradient soliton. In particular, we give a geometric description of type I and type II singularities.
In this paper we give some results on the topology of manifolds with $\infty$-Bakry-Émery Ricci tensor bounded below, and in particular of steady and expanding gradient Ricci solitons. To this aim we clarify and further develop the theory of f-harmonic maps from non-compact manifolds into non-positively curved manifolds. Notably, we prove existence and vanishing results which generalize to the weighted setting part of Schoen and Yau's theory of harmonic maps.
This paper provides a study of algebraic Ricci solitons in the pseudo-Riemannian case. In the Riemannian case, all nontrivial homogeneous algebraic Ricci solitons are expanding algebraic Ricci solitons. In this paper, we obtain a steady algebraic Ricci soliton and a shrinking algebraic Ricci soliton in the Lorentzian setting.
We study gradient Ricci solitons warped products whose base is the Euclidean space. We show that the warping functions of these manifolds are invariant under the (n-1)-dimensional translation group. We characterize the potential function when the torsion function depends only on one variable, which is a particular case of invariance by translation. From this study, we derive complete examples of expanding gradient Ricci solitons.
In this paper we show that an expanding or steady gradient Ricci soliton warped product $B^n\times_f F^m$, $m>1$, whose warping function $f$ reaches both maximum and minimum must be a Riemannian product. Moreover, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for constructing a gradient Ricci soliton warped product. As an application, we present a class of expanding Ricci soliton warped product having as a fiber an Einstein manifold with non-positive scalar curvature. We also discuss some obstructions to this construction, especially in the case when the base of the warped product is compact…
In this short note, using an argument by Munteanu and Wang, we provide an alternative proof of the fact first obtained by Lei Ni that shrinking gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons with positive bisectional curvature must be compact.
This work addresses the questions: (i) Among all left-invariant Riemannian metrics on a given Lie group, is there any whose isometry group or isometry algebra contain that of all others? (ii) Do expanding left-invariant Ricci solitons exhibit such maximal symmetry? Question (i) is addressed both for semisimple and for solvable Lie groups. Building on previous work of the authors on Einstein metrics, a complete answer is given to (ii): expanding homogeneous Ricci solitons have maximal isometry algebras although not always maximal isometry groups. As a consequence of the tools developed to addre…
The object of the present paper is to study some types of Ricci pseudosymmetric $(LCS)_n$-manifolds whose metric is Ricci soliton. We found the conditions when Ricci soliton on concircular Ricci pseudosymmetric, projective Ricci pseudosymmetric, $W_{3}$-Ricci pseudosymmetric, conharmonic Ricci pseudosymmetric, conformal Ricci pseudosymmetric $(LCS)_n$-manifolds to be shrinking, steady and expanding. We also construct an example of concircular Ricci pseudosymmetric $(LCS)_3$-manifold whose metric is Ricci soliton.
We show that expanding Kähler-Ricci solitons which have positive holomorphic bisectional curvature and are asymptotic to Kähler cones at infinity must be the U(n)-rotationally symmetric expanding solitons constructed by Cao.
If g(t) is a three-dimensional Ricci flow solution, with sectional curvatures that decay like the inverse of t and diameter that increases at most like the square root of t, then the pullback Ricci flow solution on the universal cover approaches a homogeneous expanding soliton.
