Uniqueness of $E_\infty$ structures for connective covers

We refine our earlier work on the existence and uniqueness of E-infinity structures on K-theoretic spectra to show that at each prime p, the connective Adams summand has an essentially unique structure as a commutative S-algebra. For the p-completion we show that the McClure-Staffeldt model for it is equivalent as an E-infinity ring spectrum to the connective cover of the periodic Adams summand. We establish Bousfield equivalence between the connective cover, c(E_n), of the Lubin-Tate spectrum E_n and BP<n> and propose c(E_n) as an E-infinity approximation to the latter.

An Operator model for connective K-theory with reality

Uniqueness of Morava K-theory

We show that there is an essentially unique S-algebra structure on the Morava K-theory spectrum K(n), while K(n) has uncountably many MU or \hE{n}-algebra structures. Here \hE{n} is the K(n)-localized Johnson-Wilson spectrum. To prove this we set up a spectral sequence computing the homotopy groups of the moduli space of A-infinity structures on a spectrum, and use the theory of S-algebra k-invariants for connective S-algebras due to Dugger and Shipley to show that all the uniqueness obstructions are hit by differentials.

The Homology of Connective Morava $E$-theory with coefficients in $\mathbb{F}_p$

Let $e_n$ be the connective cover of the Morava $E$-theory spectrum $E_n$ of height $n$. In this paper we compute its homology $H_*(e_n;\mathbb{F}_p)$ for any prime $p$ and $n \leq 4$ up to possible multiplicative extensions. In order to accomplish this we show that the Künneth spectral sequence based on an $E_3$-algebra $R$ is multiplicative when the $R$-modules in question are commutative $S$-algebras. We then apply this result by working over $BP$ which is known to be an $E_4$-algebra.

Twisted Morava K-theory and connective covers of Lie groups

Twisted Morava K-theory, along with computational techniques, including a universal coefficient theorem and an Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence, was introduced by Craig Westerland and the first author. We employ these techniques to compute twisted Morava K-theory of all connective covers of the stable orthogonal group and stable unitary group, and their classifying spaces, as well as spheres and Eilenberg-MacLane spaces. Existence and uniqueness of E-infinity structures on motivic K-theory spectra

We show that algebraic K-theory KGL, the motivic Adams summand ML and their connective covers acquire unique E-infinity structures refining naive multiplicative structures in the motivic stable homotopy category. The proofs combine Gamma-homology computations and work due to Robinson giving rise to motivic obstruction theory. As an application we employ a motivic to simplicial delooping argument to show a uniqueness result for E-infinity structures on the K-theory Nisnevich presheaf of spectra.

Motivic connective K-theories and the cohomology of A(1)

We make some computations in stable motivic homotopy theory over Spec \mathbb{C}, completed at 2. Using homotopy fixed points and the algebraic K-theory spectrum, we construct a motivic analogue of the real K-theory spectrum KO. We also establish a theory of connective covers to obtain a motivic version of ko. We establish an Adams spectral sequence for computing motivic ko-homology. The E_2-term of this spectral sequence involves Ext groups over the subalgebra A(1) of the motivic Steenrod algebra. We make several explicit computations of these E_2-terms in interesting special cases.

$TMF_0(3)$ Characteristic classes for String bundles

We compute the completed $TMF_0(3)$ cohomology of the 7-connective cover $BString$ of $BO$. We use cubical structures on line bundles over elliptic curves to construct an explicit class which together with the Pontryagin classes freely generates the cohomology ring.

Genuine-commutative ring structure on rational equivariant $K$-theory for finite abelian groups

In this paper, we build on the work from our previous paper (arXiv:2002.01556) to show that periodic rational $G$-equivariant topological $K$-theory has a unique genuine-commutative ring structure for $G$ a finite abelian group. This means that every genuine-commutative ring spectrum whose homotopy groups are those of $KU_{\mathbb{Q},G}$ is weakly equivalent, as a genuine-commutative ring spectrum, to $KU_{\mathbb{Q},G}$. In contrast, the connective rational equivariant $K$-theory spectrum does not have this type of uniqueness of genuine-commutative ring structure.

On topological Hochschild homology of the $K(1)$-local sphere

We compute topological Hochschild homology mod $p$ and $v_1$ of the connective cover of the $K(1)$-local sphere spectrum for all primes $p\ge 3$. This is accomplished using a May-type spectral sequence in topological Hochschild homology constructed from a filtration of a commutative ring spectrum.

Spectra of units for periodic ring spectra and group completion of graded E-infinity spaces

We construct a new spectrum of units for a commutative symmetric ring spectrum that detects the difference between a periodic ring spectrum and its connective cover.
