In this paper, we study Lusztig's $a$-function for a Coxeter group with unequal parameters. We determine that function explicitly in the ``asymptotic case'' in type $B_n$, where the left cells have been determined in terms of a generalized Robinson--Schensted correspondence by Bonnafé and the second author. As a consequence, we can also show that all of Lusztig's conjectural properties (P1)--(P15) hold in this case, except possibly (P9), (P10) and (P15). Our methods rely on the ``leading matrix coefficients'' introduced by the first author. We also interprete the ideal structure defined by the two-sided cells in the associated Iwahori--Hecke algebra $\bH_n$ in terms of the Dipper--james--Murphy basis of $\bH_n$.
We prove Lusztig's conjectures ${\bf P1}$-${\bf P15}$ for the affine Weyl group of type $\tilde{C}_2$ for all choices of positive weight function. Our approach to computing Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function is based on the notion of a `balanced system of cell representations'. Once this system is established roughly half of the conjectures ${\bf P1}$-${\bf P15}$ follow. Next we establish an `asymptotic Plancherel Theorem' for type $\tilde{C}_2$, from which the remaining conjectures follow. Combined with existing results in the literature this completes the proof of Lusztig's conjectures for all …
We define Kazhdan-Lusztig bases and study asymptotic forms for affine $q$-Schur algebras following Du and McGerty. We will show that the analogues of Lusztig's conjectures for Hecke algebras with unequal parameters hold for affine $q$-Schur algebras. We will also show that the affine $q$-Schur algebra $\mathcal{S}_{q,k}^{\vartriangle}(2,2)$ over a field $k$ has finite global dimension when char $k=0$ and $1+q\neq 0.$
Let $H$ be the Iwahori-Hecke algebra and let $J$ be Lusztig's asymptotic Hecke algebra, both specialized to type $\tilde{A}_1$. For $\mathrm{SL}_2$, when the parameter $q$ is specialized to a prime power, Braverman and Kazhdan showed recently that a completion of $H$ has codimension two as a subalgebra of a completion of $J$, and described a basis for the quotient in spectral terms. In this note we write these functions explicitly in terms of the basis $\{t_w\}$ of $J$, and further invert the canonical isomorphism between the completions of $H$ and $J$, obtaining explicit formulas for the each…
Affine matrix-ball construction (abbreviated AMBC) was developed by Chmutov, Lewis, Pylyavskyy, and Yudovina as an affine generalization of Robinson-Schensted correspondence. We show that AMBC gives a simple way to compute a distinguished (or Duflo) involution in each Kazhdan-Lusztig cell of affine symmetric groups. We then use AMBC to give the first known canonical presentation for the asymptotic Hecke algebras of extended affine symmetric groups. As an application, we show that AMBC gives a conceptual way to compute Lusztig-Vogan bijection. For the latter we build upon prior works of Achar a…
We study modules with 1-dimensional socle for preprojective algebras for type A quivers. In particular, we classify such modules, determine all homomorphisms between them, and then explain how they may be used to describe the components of Lusztig quiver varieties.
Let $W$ be a finite Coxeter group and $L$ be a weight function on $W$ in the sense of Lusztig. We have recently introduced a pre-order relation $\preceq_L$ on the set of irreducible characters of $W$ which extends Lusztig's definition of "families" and which, conjecturally, corresponds to the ordering given by Kazhdan--Lusztig cells. Here, we give an explicit description of $\preceq_L$ for $W$ of type $B_n$ and any $L$. (All other cases are known from previous work.) This crucially relies on some new combinatorial constructions around Lusztig's "symbols". Combined with previous work, we deduce…
We study the cohomology of parabolic Deligne-Lusztig varieties associated to unipotent blocks of GLn(q). We show that the geometric version of Broué's conjecture over Q_\ell, together with Craven's formula, holds for any unipotent block whenever it holds for the principal Phi_1-block, that is for the variety X(π).
Dipper, James and Murphy generalized the classical Specht module theory to Hecke algebras of type $B_n$. On the other hand, for any choice of a monomial order on the parameters in type $B_n$, we obtain corresponding Kazhdan--Lusztig cell modules. In this paper, we show that the Specht modules are naturally equivalent to the Kazhdan--Lusztig cell modules {\em if} we choose the dominance order on the parameters, as in the ``asymptotic case'' studied by Bonnafé and the second named author. We also give examples which show that such an equivalence does not hold for other choices of monomial orders…
We prove Lusztig's conjectures ${\bf P1}$--${\bf P15}$ for the affine Weyl group of type $\tilde{G}_2$ for all choices of parameters. Our approach to compute Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function is based on the notion of a "balanced system of cell representations" for the Hecke algebra. We show that for arbitrary Coxeter type the existence of balanced system of cell representations is sufficient to compute the $\mathbf{a}$-function and we explicitly construct such a system in type $\tilde{G}_2$ for arbitrary parameters. We then investigate the connection between Kazhdan-Lusztig cells and the Planch…
In this paper, we study the Kazhdan--Lusztig cells of a Coxeter group $W$ in a ``relative'' setting, with respect to a parabolic subgroup $W_I \subseteq W$. This relies on a factorization of the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis $\{C_w\}$ of the corresponding (multi-parameter) Iwahori--Hecke algebra with respect to $W_I$. We obtain two applications to the ``asymptotic case'' in type $B_n$, as introduced by Bonnafé--Iancu: we show that $\{C_w\}$ is a ``cellular basis'' in the sense of Graham--Lehrer, and we construct an analogue of Lusztig's canonical isomorphism from the Iwahori--Hecke algebra to the gro…
Let $\Irr(W)$ be the set of irreducible representations of a finite Weyl group $W$. Following an idea from Spaltenstein, Geck has recently introduced a preorder $\leq_L$ on $\Irr(W)$ in connection with the notion of Lusztig families. In a later paper with Iancu, they have shown that in type $B$ (in the asymptotic case and in the equal parameter case) this order coincides with the order on Lusztig symbols as defined by Geck and the second author in \cite{GJ}. In this paper, we show that this caracterisation extends to the so-called integer case, that is when the ratio of the parameters is an in…
In 1979, Kazhdan and Lusztig introduced the notion of "cells" (left, right and two-sided) for a Coxeter group $W$, a concept with numerous applications in Lie theory and around. Here, we address algorithmic aspects of this theory for finite $W$ which are important in applications, e.g., run explicitly through all left cells, determine the values of Lusztig's $\ba$-function, identify the characters of left cell representations. The aim is to show how type $E_8$ (the largest group of exceptional type) can be handled systematically and efficiently, too. This allows us, for the first time, to solv…
We use power sums plethysm operators to introduce H functions which interpolate between the Weyl characters and the Hall-Littlewood functions Q' corresponding to classical Lie groups. The coefficients of these functions on the basis of Weyl characters are parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials and thus, are nonnegative. We prove that they can be regarded as quantizations of branching coefficients obtained by restriction to certain Levi subgroups. The H functions associated to linear groups coincide with the polynomials introduced by Lascoux Leclerc and Thibon (LLT polynomials).
In this paper we introduce a family of Deligne--Lusztig type varieties attached to connected reductive groups over quotients of discrete valuation rings, naturally generalising the higher Deligne--Lusztig varieties and some constructions related to the algebraisation problem raised by Lusztig. We establish the inner product formula between the representations associated to these varieties and the higher Deligne--Lusztig representations.
In this paper we prove some orthogonality relations for representations arising from deep level Deligne--Lusztig schemes of Coxeter type. This generalizes previous results of Lusztig (2004), and of Chan and the second author (2019). Potential applications include the study of unipotent representations arising from such deep level Deligne--Lusztig schemes, as well as their geometry, in the spirit of the work of Lusztig (1976).
In his theory of unipotent characters of finite groups of Lie type, Lusztig constructed modular categories from two-sided cells in Weyl groups. Broué,Malle and Michel have extended parts of Lusztig's theory to complex reflection groups. This includes generalizations of the corresponding fusion algebras, although the presence of negative structure constants prevents them from arising from modular categories. We give here the first construction of braided pivotal monoidal categories associated with non-real reflection groups (later reinterpreted by Lacabanne as super modular categories). They ar…
In this article we show that almost all blocks of all Frobenius-Lusztig kernels are of wild representation type extending results of Feldvoss andWitherspoon, who proved this result for the principal block of the zeroth Frobenius-Lusztig kernel. Furthermore we verify the conjecture that there are infinitely many Auslander-Reiten components for a finite dimensional algebra of infinite representation type for selfinjective algebras whose cohomology satisfies certain finiteness conditions.
Using a characterization of a generalized $τ$-invariant for intermediate parameter Hecke algebras in type $B_n$, we verify a conjectural description of Kazhdan-Lusztig cells in this setting due to C. Bonnafé, L. Iancu, M. Geck, and T. Lam.
Admissible W-graphs were defined and combinatorially characterised by Stembridge in reference [12]. The theory of admissible W-graphs was motivated by the need to construct W-graphs for Kazhdan-Lusztig cells, which play an important role in the representation theory of Hecke algebras, without computing Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. In this paper, we shall show that type A-admissible W-cells are Kazhdan-Lusztig as conjectured by Stembridge in his original paper.
We prove a weak version of Lusztig's conjecture on explicit description of the asymptotic Hecke algebras (both finite and affine), and explain its relation to Lusztig's classification of character sheaves.
We prove that, for any choice of parameters, the Kazhdan-Lusztig cells of a Weyl group of type $B$ are unions of combinatorial cells (defined using the domino insertion algorithm).
According to an old result of Schützenberger, the involutions in a given two-sided cell of the symmetric group $\SG_n$ are all conjugate. In this paper, we study possible generalisations of this property to other types of Coxeter groups. We show that Schützenberger's result is a special case of a general result on "smooth" two-sided cells. Furthermore, we consider Kottwitz' conjecture concerning the intersections of conjugacy classes of involutions with the left cells in a finite Coxeter group. Our methods lead to a proof of this conjecture for classical types; combined with previous work, thi…
In this paper we show that the leading coefficient $μ(y,w)$ of some Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials $P_{y,w}$ with $y,w$ in an affine Weyl group of type $\tilde A_n $ is $n+2$. This fact has some consequences on the dimension of first extension groups of finite groups of Lie type with irreducible coefficients.
We reformulate the Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of Lie algebras of type D via the theory of canonical bases arising from quantum symmetric pairs initiated by Weiqiang Wang and the author. This is further applied to formulate and establish for the first time the Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(2m|2n)$.
Based on empirical evidence obtained using the {\sf CHEVIE} computer algebra system, we present a series of conjectures concerning the combinatorial description of the Kazhdan--Lusztig cells for type $B_n$ with unequal parameters. These conjectures form a far-reaching extension of the results of Bonnafé and Iancu obtained earlier in the so-called ``asymptotic case''. We give some partial results in support of our conjectures.
The intersection cohomologies of closures of nilpotent orbits of linear (respectively, cyclic) quivers are known to be described by Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the symmetric group (respectively, the affine symmetric group). We explain how to simplify this description using a combinatorial cancellation procedure, and derive some consequences for representation theory.
Following Lusztig, we consider a Coxeter group $W$ together with a weight function $L$. This gives rise to the pre-order relation $\leq_{L}$ and the corresponding partition of $W$ into left cells. We introduce an equivalence relation on weight functions such that, in particular, $\leq_{L}$ is constant on equivalent classes. We shall work this out explicitly for $W$ of type $F_4$ and check that several of Lusztig's conjectures concerning left cells with unequal parameters hold in this case, even for those parameters which do not admit a geometric interpretation. The proofs involve some explicit…
This paper studies the Kazhdan-Lusztig coefficients $μ(u,w)$ of the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials $P_{u,w}$ for the lowest cell ${c_{0}}$ of an affine Weyl group of type $\widetilde{G_{2}}$ and gives an estimation $μ(u,w)\leqslant 3$ for $u,w\in c_{0}$.
We compute two-sided cells of Weyl groups of type $B$ for the "asymptotic" choice of parameters. We also obtain some partial results concerning Kazhdan-Lusztig conjectures in this particular case.
We study the modular representations of finite groups of Lie type arising in the cohomology of certain quotients of Deligne-Lusztig varieties associated with Coxeter elements. These quotients are related to Gelfand-Graev representations and we present a conjecture on the Deligne-Lusztig restriction of Gelfand-Graev representations. We prove the conjecture for restriction to a Coxeter torus. We deduce a proof of Broué's conjecture on equivalences of derived categories arising from Deligne-Lusztig varieties, for a split group of type $A\_n$ and a Coxeter element. Our study is based on Lusztig's …
In the structure theory of quantized enveloping algebras, the algebra isomorphisms determined by Lusztig led to the first general construction of PBW bases of these algebras. Also, they have important applications to the representation theory of these and related algebras. In the present paper the Drinfel'd double for a class of graded Hopf algebras is investigated. Various quantum algebras, including multiparameter quantizations of semisimple Lie algebras and of Lie superalgebras, are covered by the given definition. For these Drinfel'd doubles Lusztig maps are defined. It is shown that these…
We show that the Lusztig integral form is dual to the RTT integral form of the type A quantum loop algebra with respect to the new Drinfeld pairing, by utilizing the shuffle algebra realization of the former and the PBWD bases of the latter obtained in arXiv:1808.09536.
We show that Hecke algebra of type B and a coideal subalgebra of the type A quantum group satisfy a double centralizer property, generalizing the Schur-Jimbo duality in type A. The quantum group of type A and its coideal subalgebra form a quantum symmetric pair. A new theory of canonical bases arising from quantum symmetric pairs is initiated. It is then applied to formulate and establish for the first time a Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for the BGG category O of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{osp}(2m+1|2n)$. In particular, our approach provides a new formulation of the Kazhdan-Lu…
We provide an explicit combinatorial description of the embedding of the crystal of Kashiwara-Nakashima tableaux in types $B$ and $C$ into that of $\bi$-Lusztig data associated to a family of reduced expressions $\bi$ of the longest element $w_0$. The description of the embedding is simple and elementary using only the Schützenberger's jeu de taquin and RSK algorithm. A spinor model for classical crystals plays an important role as an intermediate object connecting Kashiwara-Nakashima tableaux and Lusztig data.
We study Lusztig's theory of cells for quantum affine $\mathfrak{sl}_n$. Using the geometric construction of the quantum group due to Lusztig and Ginzburg--Vasserot, we describe explicitly the two-sided cells, the number of left cells in a two--sided cell, and the asymptotic algebra, verifying conjectures of Lusztig.
In this paper we prove the Kazhdan-Lusztig type character formula for irreducible highest weight modules with positive rational highest weights over symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras.
The paper is concerned with the character theory of finite groups of Lie type. The irreducible characters of a group $G$ of Lie type are partitioned in Lusztig series. We provide a simple formula for an upper bound of the maximal size of a Lusztig series for classical groups with connected center; this is expressed for each group $G$ in terms of its Lie rank and defining characteristic. When $G$ is specified as $G(q)$ and $q$ is large enough, we determine explicitly the maximum of the sizes of the Lusztig series of $G$.
Let $i$ be a reduced expression of the longest element in the Weyl group of type $A$, which is adapted to a Dynkin quiver with a single sink. We present a simple description of the crystal embedding of Young tableaux of arbitrary shape into $i$-Lusztig data, which also gives an algorithm for the transition matrix between Lusztig data associated to reduced expressions adapted to quivers with a single sink.
We develop an algorithm for computing affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, for all Lie types. This generalizes our previously published algorithm for type A, which in turn is a faster version of an algorithm due to Lascouz, Leclerc and Thibon (proposed in the setting of Hecke algebras of type A, at roots of unity.)
To a Coxeter system $(W,S)$ (with $S$ finite) and a weight function $L : W \to \NM$ is associated a partition of $W$ into Kazhdan-Lusztig (left, right or two-sided) $L$-cells. Let $S^\circ = \{s \in S | L(s)=0\}$, $S^+=\{s \in S | L(s) > 0\}$ and let $C$ be a Kazhdan-Lusztig (left, right or two-sided) $L$-cell. According to the semicontinuity conjecture of the first author, there should exist a positive natural number $m$ such that, for any weight function $L' : W \to \NM$ such that $L(s^+)=L'(s^+) > m L'(s^\circ)$ for all $s^+ \in S^+$ and $s^\circ \in S^\circ$, $C$ is a union of Kazhdan-Lusz…
This paper is part of the program to classify Kazhdan-Lusztig cells for Weyl groups of type $D_n$. We prove analogous results to those of section 4 of Kazhdan-Lusztig's original paper, this time related to a parabolic subgroup of type $D_4$. We also show how this is used in the definition of the generalized $τ$-invariant.
We analyze the asymptotic behavior of certain twisted orbital integrals arising from the study of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties. The main tools include the Base Change Fundamental Lemma and $q$-analogues of the Kostant partition functions. As an application we prove a conjecture of Miaofen Chen and Xinwen Zhu, relating the set of irreducible components of an affine Deligne-Lusztig variety modulo the action of the $σ$-centralizer group to the Mirkovic-Vilonen basis of a certain weight space of a representation of the Langlands dual group.
Lusztig conjectured that the almost characters of a finite reductive group are up to a scalar the same as the characteristic functions of the rational character sheaves defined on the corresponding algebraic group. We propose in this paper to verify this conjecture for the uniform almost characters of the Suzuki and the Ree groups and to show that a conjecture of the same type holds for the disconnected case of type B_2. We then state a conjecture on the possible values of the uniform almost characters on unipotent elements in the disconnected case of type F_4.
We give the defining structure of two-parameter quantum group of type G_2 defined over a field {\Bbb Q}(r,s) (with r\ne s), and prove the Drinfel'd double structure as its upper and lower triangular parts, extending an earlier result of [BW1] in type A and a recent result of [BGH1] in types B, C, D. We further discuss the Lusztig's Q-isomorphisms from U_{r,s}(G_2) to its associated object U_{s^{-1},r^{-1}}(G_2), which give rise to the usual Lusztig's symmetries defined not only on U_q(G_2) but also on the centralized quantum group U_q^c(G_2) only when r=s^{-1}=q. (This also reflects the distin…
Let $(W,S)$ be any Coxeter system and let $w \mapsto w^*$ be an involution of $W$ which preserves the set of simple generators $S$. Lusztig and Vogan have shown that the corresponding set of twisted involutions (i.e., elements $w \in W$ with $w^{-1} = w^*$) naturally generates a module of the Hecke algebra of $(W,S)$ with two distinguished bases. The transition matrix between these bases defines a family of polynomials $P^σ_{y,w}$ which one can view as a "twisted" analogue of the much-studied family of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of $(W,S)$. The polynomials $P^σ_{y,w}$ can have negative coeffi…
We establish a direct connection between the representation theories of Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras (of type A) via Fock space reformulations of their Kazhdan-Lusztig theories. As a consequence, the characters of finite-dimensional irreducible modules of the general linear Lie superalgebra are computed by the usual parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of type A. In addition, we establish closed formulas for canonical and dual canonical bases for the tensor product of any two fundamental representations of type A.
