We study a class of matrix function algebras, here denoted $\mathcal{T}^{+}(\mathcal{C}_n)$. We introduce a notion of point derivations, and classify the point derivations for certain finite dimensional representations of $\mathcal{T}^{+}(\mathcal{C}_n)$. We use point derivations and information about $n \times n$ matrices to show that every $\mathcal{T}^{+}(\mathcal{C}_n)$-valued derivation on $\mathcal{T}^{+}(\mathcal{C}_n)$ is inner.
Let $E=E(0,\infty)$ be a symmetric function space and $E(\mathcal{M},τ)$ be a symmetric operator space associated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra with a faithful normal semifinite trace. Our main result identifies the class of spaces $E$ for which every derivation $δ:\mathcal{A}\to E(\mathcal{M},τ)$ is necessarily inner for each $C^*$-subalgebra $\mathcal{A}$ in the class of all semifinite von Neumann algebras $\mathcal{M}$ as those with the Levi property.
We define a noncommutative differential calculus constructed from the inner derivation, then several relevant examples are showed. It is of interest to note that for certain $C^*$-algebra, this calculus is closely related to the classical one when the algebra associates a deformation parameter.
The paper is devoted to so-called local and 2-local derivations on the noncommutative Arens algebra $L^ω(M, τ)$ associated with a von Neumann algebra $M$ and a faithful normal semi-finite trace $τ.$ We prove that every 2-local derivation on $L^ω(M, τ)$ is a spatial derivation, and if $M$ is a finite von Neumann algebra, then each local derivation on $L^ω(M, τ)$ is also a spatial derivation and every 2-local derivation on $M$ is in fact an inner derivation.
We describe the general structure of unbounded derivations in the quantum cylinder. We prove a noncommutative analog of reflection positivity for Laplace-type operators in a noncommutative cylinder following the ideas of Jaffe and Ritter proof of reflection positivity for Laplace operators on manifolds equipped with a reflection.
We studied complex interpolation noncommutative Hardy space associated with semi-finite von Neumann algebra and extend Pisier's interpolation theorem for this case.
It is shown that the bona fide generalization of the Vitali-Hahn-Saks Theorem to von Neumann algebras is possible if, and only if, the algebra is finite. This settles the problem on the noncommutative Vitali-Hahn-Saks Theorem completely and provides new means of characterizing finite von Neumann algebras.
We make some observations about Rosenberg's Levi-Civita connections on noncommutative tori, noting the non-uniqueness of torsion-free metric-compatible connections without prescribed connection operator for the inner *-derivations, the nontrivial curvature form of the inner *-derivations, and the validity of the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for two classes of non-conformal deformations of the flat metric on the noncommutative two-tori, including the case of non-commuting scalings along the principal directions of a two-torus.
In this paper we analyze the Banach *-algebra of time-frequency shifts with absolutely summable coefficients. We prove a noncommutative version of the Wiener lemma. We also construct a faithful tracial state on this algebra which implies the algebra contains no compact operators. As a corollary we obtain a special case of the Heil-Ramanathan-Topiwala conjecture regarding linear independence of finitely many time-frequency shifts of one $L^2$ function.
Noncommutative topological entropy estimates are obtained for polynomial gauge invariant endomorphisms of Cuntz algebras, generalising known results for the canonical shift endomorphisms. Exact values for the entropy are computed for a class of permutative endomorphisms related to branching function systems introduced and studied by Bratteli, Jorgensen and Kawamura.
Using the Falcone--Takesaki theory of noncommutative integration and Kosaki's canonical representation, we construct a family of noncommutative Orlicz spaces that are associated to an arbitrary W*-algebra without any choice of weight involved, and we show that this construction is functorial over the category of W*-algebras with *-isomorphisms as arrows. Under a choice of representation, these spaces are isometrically isomorphic to Kunze's noncommutative Orlicz spaces over crossed products.
We define and study smooth subalgebras of Bunce-Deddens C*-algebras. We discuss various aspects of noncommutative geometry of Bunce-Deddens algebras including derivations on smooth subalgebras, as well as K-Theory and K-Homology.
Noncommutative domain algebras are noncommutative analogues of the algebras of holomorphic functions on domains of $\C^n$ defined by holomorphic polynomials, and they generalize the noncommutative Hardy algebras. We present here a complete classification of these algebras based upon techniques inspired by multivariate complex analysis, and more specifically the classification of domains in hermitian spaces up to biholomorphic equivalence.
We use the results of Neshveyev and Stormer to show that for a generic shift on a C*-algebra associated to a bitstream the Voiculescu topological entropy is strictly larger that the supremum of topological entropies of its classical subsystems.
We establish several deep existence criteria for conditional expectations on von Neumann algebras, and then apply this theory to develop a noncommutative theory of representing measures of characters of a function algebra. Our main cycle of results describes what may be understood as a `noncommutative Hoffman-Rossi theorem' giving the existence of weak* continuous `noncommutative representing measures' for so-called D-characters. These results may also be viewed as `module' Hahn-Banach extension theorems for weak* continuous `characters' into possibly noninjective von Neumann algebras. In clos…
We present a derivation-based Atiyah sequence for noncommutative principal bundles. Along the way we treat the problem of deciding when a given $^*$-automorphism on the quantum base space lifts to a $^*$-automorphism on the quantum total space that commutes with the underlying structure group.
This text is a detailed overview of the theories of W*-algebras and noncommutative integration, up to the Falcone-Takesaki theory of noncommutative Lp spaces over arbitrary W*-algebras, and its extension to noncommutative Orlicz spaces. The topics under consideration include the Tomita-Takesaki modular theory, the relative modular theory (featuring bimodules, spatial quotients, and canonical representation), the theory of W*-dynamical systems (featuring derivations, liouvilleans, and crossed products), noncommutative Radon-Nikodym type theorems, and operator valued weights. We pay special atte…
In previous papers, we constructed smooth (1,\infty)-summable semfinite spectral triples for graph algebras with a faithful trace, and (k,\infty)-summable semifinite spectral triples for k-graph algebras. In this paper we identify classes of graphs and k-graphs which satisfy a version of Connes' conditions for noncommutative manifolds.
Motivated by the search for new examples of ``noncommutative manifolds'', we study the noncommutative geometry (in the sense of Connes) of the group C*-algebra of the three dimensional discrete Heisenberg group. We present a unified treatment of the K-homology, cyclic cohomology and derivations of this algebra.
Jordan operator algebras are norm-closed spaces of operators on a Hilbert space with $a^2 \in A$ for all $a \in A$. We study noncommutative topology, noncommutative peak sets and peak interpolation, and hereditary subalgebras of Jordan operator algebras. We show that Jordan operator algebras present perhaps the most general setting for a `full' noncommutative topology in the C*-algebraic sense of Akemann, L. G. Brown, Pedersen, etc, and as modified for not necessarily selfadjoint algebras by the authors with Read, Hay and other coauthors. Our breakthrough relies in part on establishing several…
The Gelfand - Naĭmark theorem supplies the one to one correspondence between commutative $C^*$-algebras and locally compact Hausdorff spaces. So any noncommutative $C^*$-algebra can be regarded as a generalization of a topological space. Generalizations of several topological invariants can be defined by algebraical methods. This article contains a pure algebraical construction of (noncommutative) covering projections with finite cyclic groups of covering transformations.
This article contains a pure algebraical construction of inverse limits in the category of (noncommutative) covering projections. It is proven that Moyal planes are inverse limits of covering projections of noncommutative tori.
Gelfand - Naĭmark theorem supplies contravariant functor from a category of commutative $C^*-$ algebras to a category of locally compact Hausdorff spaces. Therefore any commutative $C^*-$ algebra is an alternative representation of a topological space. Similarly a category of (noncommutative) $C^*-$ algebras can be regarded as a category of generalized (noncommutative) locally compact Hausdorff spaces. Generalizations of topological invariants may be defined by algebraic methods. For example Serre Swan theorem states that complex topological $K$ - theory coincides with $K$ - theory of $C^*$ - …
Noncommutative geometry (NCG) is a branch of mathematics concerned with a geometric approach to noncommutative algebras, and with the construction of spaces that are locally presented by noncommutative algebras of functions (possibly in some generalized sense). A noncommutative algebra is an associative algebra in which the multiplication is not commutative, that is, for which $xy$ does not always equal $yx$; or more generally an algebraic structure in which one of the principal binary operations is not commutative; one also allows additional structures, e.g. topology or norm, to be possibly c…
This paper extends the results of the previous work of the authors on the classification on noncommutative domain algebras up to completely isometric isomorphism. Using Sunada's classification of Reinhardt domains in $C^n$, we show that aspherical noncommutative domain algebras are isomorphic if and only if their defining symbols are equivalent, in the sense that one can be obtained from the other via permutation and scaling of the free variables. Our result also shows that the automorphism groups of aspherical noncommutative domain algebras consists of a subgroup of some finite dimensional un…
We investigate a set of functional equations defining a projection in the noncommutative 2-torus algebra $A_θ$. The exact solutions of these provide various generalisations of the Powers-Rieffel projection. By identifying the corresponding $K_0(A_θ)$ classes we get an insight into the structure of projections in $A_θ$.
We explore the relation between the Hopf algebra associated to the renormalization of QFT and the Hopf algebra associated to the NCG computations of transverse index theory for foliations.
This work provides a generalization of the Gelfand duality to the context of noncommutative locally $C^*$ algebras. Using a reformulation of a theorem proven by Dauns and Hofmann in the 60's we show that every locally $C^*$ algebra can be realized as the algebra of continuous sections of a $C^*$ bundle over a compactly generated topological space. This result is used then to show that on certain special cases locally $C^*$ algebras can be used to define certain sheaves of locally $C^*$ algebras that, inspired by the analogy with commutative geometry, we call noncommutative spaces. The last sec…
