Let A be an abelian variety of dimension g defined over a number field K. We study the size of the torsion group A(F)_{tors} where F/K is a finite extension and more precisely we study the possible exponent γin the inequality Card(A(F)_{tors})<< [F:K]^γ when F is any extension of K. In the C.M. case we give an exact formula for the best possible exponent in terms of the characters of the Mumford-Tate group--a torus in this case--and discuss briefly the general case.
Finally we give applications of this result in direction of a conjecture of Rémond generalising the Manin-Mumford conjecture.
We give a simple combinatorial description of the elliptic endoscopic data of a twisted space under a group $G$, assuming that $G$ is semi-simple and simply connected. Assuming the same hypothesis and that the base field is a number field, we prove that, if two elliptic endoscopic data are equivalent almost everywhere, then they are equivalent.
In this paper, we consider a problem of counting multiplicities. We fix a counting function of multiplicity of rational points in a hypersurface of a projective space over a finite field, and we give an upper bound for the sum with respect to this counting function in terms of the degree of the hypersurface, the dimension and the cardinality of the finite field. This upper bound gives a description of the complexity of the singular locus of this hypersurface. In order to obtain this upper bound, we introduce a notion called intersection tree by intersection theory. We construct a sequence of i…
In arXiv:1410.5671, Jahnel and Loughran prove the local global principle for existence of linear spaces of dimension $r$ on smooth complete intersections of two quadrics in projective space of dimension $2r+2$. We present an alternative proof of a slightly more general result.
In this paper, we generalize Mauduit and Rivat's theorem on the Rudin-Shapiro sequence. Weakening the hypothesis needed in their theorem, we prove a prime number theorem for a large class of functions defined on the digits. Our result covers the case of generalized Rudin-Shapiro sequences as well as bloc-additive sequences on finite and infinite expansions. We also give a partial answer to a question posed by Kalai.
We establish a fine expansion for the geometric part of the Arthur-Selberg trace formula (as it was conjectured by Werner Hoffmann). For the general linear group, we deduce an expression for the contributions of regular by blocks unipotent orbits (orbits with one Jordan block with multiplicity). As a consequence, we find formulas for Arthur's global coefficients attached to such orbits.
Let $X$ be a genus $d$ curve with $d\geq 2$ defined over a global function field $K$ of characteristic $p>0$ with $p>2d+1$. Suppose $X$ non-isotrivial. Let $Γ$ be a sub-group of $J(K_s)$, where $J$ is the jacobian of $X$ and $K_s$ is a separable closure of $K$, verifying $Γ/p Γ$ finite. Then one shows that $X\cap Γ$ has finite cardinal and one provides an explicit upper bound. This generalizes a result of Buium and Voloch.
The number of solutions in finite fields of a system of polynomial equations obeys a very strong regularity, reflected for example by the rationality of the zeta function of an algebraic variety defined over a finite field, or the modularity of Hasse-Weil's $L$-function of an elliptic curve over $\Q$. Since two decades, efficient methods have been invented to compute effectively this number of solutions, notably in view of cryptographic applications. This exposé presents some of these methods, generally relying on the use of Lefshetz's trace formula in an adequate cohomology theory and discuss…
We generalize the work of M. Harris and R. Taylor on the local Langlands correspondence for the linear group over $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We prove some cases of the Kottwitz conjectures for the supercuspidal part of the compactly supported $\ell$-adic cohomology of Rapoport-Zink rigid-analytic spaces. This means that we decompose this part in terms of local Langlands correspondences. In particular, we prove the first case of a non-abelian reciprocity law constructed geometrically and associated to groups other than inner forms of the linear group. More precisely, we do this for the unramified unitary …
The theme of the article is the study of the unipotent part of Arthur's trace formula for general linear groups. The case of regular (or "regular by blocks") unipotent orbits has been essentially done in a previous paper. Here we are interested by the contribution of Richardson orbits that are induced by Levi subgroups with two-by-two distinct blocks. In this case, the contribution is remarkably given by a global unipotent weighted orbital integral. As a corollary, we get integral formulas for some of Arthur's global coefficients. We also present a new construction of Arthur's local unipotent …
When the level at $l$ of a Shimura variety of Kottwitz-Harris-Taylor is not maximal, its cohomology with coefficients in a $\overline{\mathbb Z}_l$-local system isn't in general torsion free. In order to prove torsion freeness results of the cohomology, we localize at a maximal ideal $\mathfrak m$ of the Hecke algebra. We then prove a result of torsion freeness resting either on $\mathfrak m$ itself or on the Galois representation $\overline ρ_{\mathfrak m}$ associated to it. Concerning the torsion, in a rather restricted case than the work of Caraiani-Scholze, we prove that the torsion doesn'…
For abelian varieties $A$, in the most interesting cohomology theories $H^* (A)$ is the exterior algebra of $H^1(A)$. In this paper we study a weak generalization of this in the case of arithmetic manifolds associated to orthogonal or unitary groups. In this latter case recall that arithmetic manifolds associated to standard unitary groups $U(p,q)$ ($p\geq q$) over a totally real numberfield have vanishing cohomology in degree $i=1, ..., q-1$ and that, following earlier works of Kazhdan and Shimura, Borel and Wallach constructed in \cite{BorelWallach} non zero degree $q$ cohomology classes. Th…
For two distinct integers $m_1,m_2\ge2$, we set $α_1=[0;\overline{1,m_1}]$ and $α_2=[0;\overline{1,m_2}]$ and we denote by $S_{α_1}(n)$ and $S_{α_2}(n)$ respectively the sum of digits functions in the Ostrowski $α_1$ and $α_2-$representations of $n$. Let $b_1,b_2 $ be positive integers satisfying $(b_1,m_1)=1$ and $(b_2,m_2)=1$, we obtain an estimation with an error term $O(N^{1-δ})$ for the cardinal of the following set $$\Big\{ 0\leq n<N;\ S_{α_1}(n)\equiv a_1\pmod{b_1},\ S_{α_2}(n)\equiv a_2\pmod{b_2}\Big\},$$ for all integers $a_1$ and $a_2.$ Our result should be compared to that of Bésine…
The principal aim of this paper is to construct torsion cohomology classes in the initial terms of a spectral sequence computing the cohomology of a Kottwitz-Harris-Taylor Shimura variety. Beside we produce some global congruences between automorphic representations.
We show that Hermite's approximations to values of the exponential function at given algebraic numbers are nearly optimal when considered from an adelic perspective. We achieve this by taking into account the ratio of these values whenever they make sense in the various completions (Archimedean or $p$-adic) of a number field containing these algebraic numbers.
Let $A$ be an abelian variety defined over a number field $K$, the number of torsion points rational over a finite extension $L$ is bounded polynomially in terms of the degree $[L:K]$. We formulate a question suggesting the optimal exponent for this bound in terms of the dimension of the Mumford-Tate groups of the abelian subvarieties of $A$; we study the behaviour under product and then give a positive answer to our question when $A$ is the product of elliptic curves.
-- The goal of this lecture is to present Scholze's results about the construction of torsion Galois representations associated to the chara…
Let $k$ be a field of characteristic 0 and let $K$ be the function field of a smooth projective geometrically integral $k$-curve $X$. Let $T$ be a $K$-torus. In this article, we aim at studying the space of adelic points $T(S,\mathbb{A}_K)$ of $T$ outside a finite set $S$ of closed points of $X$. We start by proving that the group $T(K)$ of rational points of $T$ is always discrete (hence closed) in $T(S,\mathbb{A}_K)$. We then describe the quotient $T(\emptyset,\mathbb{A}_K)/T(K)$ in each of the following three cases: $k$ is an algebraically closed field, $k$ is the field of Laurent series $\…
We prove a special case of the following conjecture of Zilber-Pink generalising the Manin-Mumford conjecture : let $X$ be a curve inside an Abelian variety $A$ over $\bar{\Q}$, provided $X$ is not contained in a torsion subvariety, the intersection of $X$ with the union of all subgroup schemes of codimension at least 2 is finite ; we settle the case where $A$ is a power of a simple Abelian variety of C.M. type. This generalises the previous known result, due to Viada and Rémond-Viada (who was able to prove the conjecture for power of an elliptic curve with complex multiplication). The proof is…
Nous avons obtenu des formules explicites representant les fonctions E(z) apparaissant dans la theorie des ``Espaces de Sonine'' associes par de Branges a la transformation de Fourier.
This text is devoted to the following result, stemming out works of Bombieri, Masser, Zannier, and Maurin: Let $X$ be an complex algebraic (projective, connected) curve and let us consider $n$ rational functions $f_1,...,f_n$ on $X$ which are multiplicatively independent. The points $x$ of $X$ where their values $f_1(x),...,f_n(x)$ satisfy at least two independent multiplicative dependence relations form a finite set. We discuss the conjectural generalizations of this theorem (Bombieri, Masser, Zannier; Zilber; Pink) concerning the finiteness of points of a $d$-dimensional subvariety $X$ of a …
Let X be a smooth compactification of a homogeneous space of a linear algebraic group G over a number field k. We establish the conjecture of Colliot-Thélène, Sansuc, Kato and Saito on the image of the Chow group of zero-cycles of X in the product of the same groups over all the completions of k. When G is semisimple and simply connected and the geometric stabiliser is finite and supersolvable, we show that rational points of X are dense in the Brauer-Manin set. For finite supersolvable groups, in particular for finite nilpotent groups, this yields a new proof of Shafarevich's theorem on the i…
----- We prove that p-adic…
In his thesis, S. Checcoli shows that, among other results, if $K$ is a number field and if $L/K$ is an infinite Galois extension with Galois group $G$ of finite exponent, then $L$ has uniformly bounded local degrees at every prime of $K$. In this article we gather two remarks about the generalisation of S. Checcoli's result to function fields of positive characteristic. We first show an analogue of her theorem $2.2.2$ in this context, under the hypothesis that the Galois group exponent is prime to $p$. Using an example, we then show that this hypothesis is in fact necesary.---Dans sa thèse, S…
