Let $\Lg$ be a simple complex Lie algebra, we denote by $\Lhg$ the corresponding affine Kac--Moody algebra. Let $Λ_0$ be the additional fundamental weight of $\Lhg$. For a dominant integral $\Lg$--coweight $\lam^\vee$, the Demazure submodule $V_{-\lam^\vee}(m\Lam_0)$ is a $\Lg$--module. For any partition of $\lam^\vee=\sum_j \lam_j^\vee$ as a sum of dominant integral $\Lg$--coweights, the Demazure module is (as $\Lg$--module) isomorphic to $\bigotimes_j V_{-\lam^\vee_j}(m\Lam_0)$. For the ``smallest'' case, $\lam^\vee=\om^\vee$ a fundamental coweight, we provide for $\Lg$ of classical type a decomposition of $V_{-\om^\vee}(m\Lam_0)$ into irreducible $\Lg$--modules, so this can be viewed as a natural generalization of the decomposition formulas in \cite{KMOTU} and \cite{Magyar}. A comparison with the $U_q(\Lg)$--characters of certain finite dimensional $U_q'(\Lhg)$--modules (Kirillov--Reshetikhin--modules) suggests furthermore that all quantized Demazure modules $V_{-\lam^\vee,q}(m\Lam_0)$ can be naturally endowed with the structure of a $U_q'(\Lhg)$--module. Such a structure suggests also a combinatorially interesting connection between the LS--path model for the Demazure module and the LS--path model for certain $U_q'(\Lhg)$--modules in \cite{NaitoSagaki}. For an integral dominant $\Lhg$--weight $Λ$ let $V(\Lam)$ be the corresponding irreducible $\Lhg$--representation. Using the tensor product decomposition for Demazure modules, we give a description of the $\Lg$--module structure of $V(\Lam)$ as a semi-infinite tensor product of finite dimensional $\Lg$--modules. The case of twisted affine Kac-Moody algebras can be treated in the same way, some details are worked out in the last section.
We study the classical limit of a family of irreducible representations of the quantum affine algebra associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$. After a suitable twist, the limit is a module for $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}[t]$, i.e., for the maximal standard parabolic subalgebra of the affine Lie algebra. Our first result is about the family of prime representations introduced in the context of a monoidal categorification of cluster algebras. We show that these representations specialize (after twisting), to $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}[t]$--stable, prime Demazure modules in level two integrable highest weight rep…
The conjecturally perfect Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KR) crystals are known to be isomorphic as classical crystals to certain Demazure subcrystals of crystal graphs of irreducible highest weight modules over affine algebras. Under some assumptions we show that the classical isomorphism from the Demazure crystal to the KR crystal, sends zero arrows to zero arrows. This implies that the affine crystal structure on these KR crystals is unique.
We give a crystal-theoretic proof that nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials specialized to $t=0$ are affine Demazure characters. We explicitly construct an affine Demazure crystal on semistandard key tabloids such that removing the affine edges recovers the finite Demazure crystals constructed earlier by the authors. We also realize the filtration on highest weight modules by Demazure modules by defining explicit embedding operators which, at the level of characters, parallels the recursion operators of Knop and Sahi for specialized nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. Thus we prove combinatorial…
Demazure crystals are subcrystals of highest weight irreducible $\mathfrak{g}$-crystals. In this article, we study tensor products of a larger class of subcrystals, called extremal, and give a local characterization for exactly when the tensor product of Demazure crystals is extremal. We then show that tensor products of Demazure crystals decompose into direct sums of Demazure crystals if and only if the tensor product is extremal, thus providing a sufficient and necessary local criterion for when the tensor product of Demazure crystals is itself Demazure. As an application, we show that the p…
We study a relationship between the graded characters of generalized Weyl modules $W_{w λ}$, $w \in W$, over the positive part of the affine Lie algebra and those of specific quotients $V_{w}^- (λ) / X_{w}^- (λ)$, $w \in W$, of the Demazure submodules $V_{w}^- (λ)$ of the extremal weight modules $V(λ)$ over the quantum affine algebra, where $W$ is the finite Weyl group and $λ$ is a dominant weight. More precisely, we prove that a specific quotient of the Demazure submodule is a quantum analog of a generalized Weyl module.
A Demazure crystal is the basis at $q=0$ of a Demazure module. Demazure crystals play an important role in Schubert calculus because the character of a Demazure crystal in type A is identical to a key polynomial, which is closely related to Schubert polynomials. In this paper, we study tensor products of Demazure crystals. Each connected component of a tensor product of Demazure crystals need not be isomorphic to some Demazure crystal. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for every connected component of a tensor product to be isomorphic to some Demazure crystal. Also, we obtain the…
The Demazure product gives a natural monoid structure on any Coxeter group. Such structure occurs naturally in many different areas in Lie Theory. This paper studies the Demazure product of an extended affine Weyl group $\tilde W$. The main discovery is a close connection between the Demazure product of an extended affine Weyl group and the quantum Bruhat graph of the finite Weyl group. As applications, we obtain explicit formulas on the generic Newton points and the Demazure products of elements in the lowest two-sided cell/shrunken Weyl chambers of $\tilde W$, and obtain an explicit formula …
We define a family of symmetric polynomials $G_{ν,λ}(z_1,\cdots, z_{n+1},q)$ indexed by a pair of dominant integral weights. The polynomial $G_{ν,0}(z,q)$ is the specialized Macdonald polynomial and we prove that $G_{0,λ}(z,q)$ is the graded character of a level two Demazure module associated to the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{n+1}$. Under suitable conditions on $(ν,λ)$ (which includes the case when $ν=0$ or $λ=0$) we prove that $G_{ν,λ}(z,q)$ is Schur positive and give explicit formulae for them in terms of Macdonald polynomials.
We provide identities of inverse Chevalley type for the graded characters of level-zero Demazure submodules of extremal weight modules over a quantum affine algebra of type $C$. These identities express the product $e^μ \, \mathrm{gch} \, V_{x}^{-}(λ)$ of the (one-dimensional) character $e^μ$, where $μ$ is a (not necessarily dominant) minuscule weight, with the graded character $\mathrm{gch} \, V_{x}^{-}(λ)$ of the level-zero Demazure submodule $V_{x}^{-}(λ)$ over the quantum affine algebra $U_{\mathsf{q}}(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{af}})$ as an explicit finite linear combination of the graded char…
We establish a connection between a specialization of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials and the Demazure characters of the corresponding affine Kac-Moody algebra. This allows us to obtain a representation-theoretical interpretation of the coefficients of the expansion of the specialized symmetric Macdonald polynomials in the basis formed by the irreducible characters of the associated finite Lie algebra.
The goal of this paper is to understand the graded limit of a family of irreducible prime representations of the quantum affine algebra associated to a simply-laced simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. This family was introduced by David Hernandez and Bernard Leclerc in the context of monoidal categorification of cluster algebras. The graded limit of a member of this family is an indecomposable graded module for the current algebra $\mathfrak{g}[t]$; or equivalently a module for the maximal standard parabolic subalgebra in the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$. In this paper we study t…
We establish the existence of Demazure flags for graded local Weyl modules for hyper current algebras in positive characteristic. If the underlying simple Lie algebra is simply laced, the flag has length one, i.e., the graded local Weyl modules are isomorphic to Demazure modules. This extends to the positive characteristic setting results of Fourier-Littelmann and Naoi for current algebras in characteristic zero. Using this result, we prove that the character of local Weyl modules for hyper loop algebras depend only on the highest weight, but not on the (algebraically closed) ground field, and…
Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of type $A$ or $D$ defined over $\C$ and $T$ be a maximal torus of $G$. For a dominant coweight $λ$ of $G$, the $T$-fixed point subscheme $(\bar{Gr}_G^λ)^T$ of the Schubert variety $\bar{Gr}_G^λ$ in the affine Grassmannian $Gr_G$ is a finite scheme. We prove that there is a natural isomorphism between the dual of the level one affine Demazure module corresponding to $λ$ and the ring of functions (twisted by certain line bundle on $Gr_G$) of $(\bar{Gr}_G^λ)^T$. We use this fact to give a geometric proof of the Frenkel-Kac-Segal isomorphism between basic repre…
The Cherednik-Orr conjecture expresses the $t\to\infty$ limit of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials in terms of the PBW twisted characters of the affine level one Demazure modules. We prove this conjecture in several special cases.
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra with highest root $θ$ and let $\mathfrak{g}[t]$ be the corresponding current algebra. In this paper, we consider the $\mathfrak{g}[t]$-stable Demazure modules associated to integrable highest weight representations of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$. We prove that the fusion product of Demazure modules of a given level with a single Demazure module of a different level and with highest weight a multiple of $θ$ is a generalized Demazure module, and also give defining relations. This also shows that the fusion …
In this paper, we introduce a family of indecomposable finite-dimensional graded modules for the twisted current algebras. These modules are indexed by an $|R^+|$-tuple of partitions $\bxi=(ξ^α)_{α\in R^+}$ satisfying a natural compatibility condition. We give three equivalent presentations of these modules and show that for a particular choice of $\bxi$ these modules become isomorphic to Demazure modules in various levels for the twisted affine algebras. As a consequence we see that the defining relations of twisted Demazure modules can be greatly simplified. Furthermore, we investigate the n…
The Key map is an important tool in the determination of the Demazure crystals associated to Kac-Moody algebras. In finite type A, it can be computed in the tableau realization of crystals by a simple combinatorial procedure due to Lascoux and Sch{ü}tzenberger. We show that this procedure is a part of a more general construction holding in the Kac-Moody case that we illustrate in finite types and affine type A. In affine type A, we introduce higher level generalizations of core partitions which notably give interesting analogues of the Young lattice and are expected to parametrize distinguishe…
We show that every Weyl module for a current algebra has a filtration whose successive quotients are isomorphic to Demazure modules, and that the path model for a tensor product of level zero fundamental representations is isomorphic to a disjoint union of Demazure crystals. Moreover, we show that the Demazure modules appearing in these two objects coincide exactly. Though these results have been previously known in the simply laced case, they are new in the non-simply laced case.
We construct a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt type basis for the Weyl modules of the current algebra of $sl_{r+1}$. As a corollary we prove a conjecture made by Chari and Pressley on the dimension of the Weyl modules in this case. Further, we relate the Weyl modules to the fusion modules of the current algebra defined by Feigin and Loktev, and to the Demazure modules in level one representations of the corresponding affine algebra. In particular, this allows us to establish substantial cases of the conjectures of Feigin and Loktev on the structure and graded character of the fusion modules.
We consider expansions of products of theta-functions associated with arbitrary root systems in terms of nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials at $t=\infty$ divided by their norms. The latter are identified with the graded characters of Demazure slices, some canonical quotients of thick (upper) level-one Demazure modules, directly related to recent theory of generalized (nonsymmetric) global Weyl modules. The symmetric Rogers-Ramanujan-type series considered by Cherednik-Feigin were expected to have some interpretation of this kind; the nonsymmetric setting appeared necessary to achieve this. As …
Using subvarieties, which we call Demazure quiver varieties, of the quiver varieties of Nakajima, we give a geometric realization of Demazure modules of Kac-Moody algebras with symmetric Cartan data. We give a natural geometric characterization of the extremal weights of a representation and show that Lusztig's semicanonical basis is compatible with the filtration of a representation by Demazure modules. For the case of affine sl_2, we give a characterization of the Demazure quiver variety in terms of a nilpotency condition on quiver representations and an explicit combinatorial description of…
In this paper, we give a representation-theoretic interpretation of the specialization $E_{w_{\circ} λ} (q,\infty)$ of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomial $E_{w_{\circ} λ}(q,t)$ at $t=\infty$ in terms of the Demazure submodule $V_{w_\circ}^{-} (λ)$ of the level-zero extremal weight module $V(λ)$ over a quantum affine algebra of an arbitrary untwisted type, here, $λ$ is a dominant integral weight, and $w_{\circ}$ denotes the longest element in the finite Weyl group $W$. Also, for each $x \in W$, we obtain a combinatorial formula for the specialization $E_{x λ} (q, \infty)$ at $t=\infty$ of th…
The classical Pieri formula gives a multiplicity free expansion of an irreducible module with a fundamental one for the complex general linear group. In this article we replace the tensor product by the fusion product and prove an analogue Pieri formula for higher level Demazure modules for the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{n+1}$. To be more precise, we show that the fusion product of an arbitrary stable Demazure module with a fundamental module admits a multiplicity free excellent filtration and the successive quotients are described explicitly. As a consequence, we derive recu…
We establish the equality of the specialization $E_{wλ}(x;q,0)$ of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomial $E_{wλ}(x;q,t)$ at $t=0$ with the graded character $\mathop{\rm gch} U_{w}^{+}(λ)$ of a certain Demazure-type submodule $U_{w}^{+}(λ)$ of a tensor product of "single-column" Kirillov--Reshetikhin modules for an untwisted affine Lie algebra, where $λ$ is a dominant integral weight and $w$ is a (finite) Weyl group element, this generalizes our previous result, that is, the equality between the specialization $P_λ(x;q,0)$ of the symmetric Macdonald polynomial $P_λ(x;q,t)$ at $t=0$ and the grad…
We study finite-dimensional respresentations of twisted current algebras and show that any graded twisted Weyl module is isomorphic to level one Demazure module for the twisted affine Kac-Moody algebra. Using the tensor product property of Demazure modules, we obtain, by analyzing the fundamental Weyl modules, dimension and character formulas. Moreover we prove that graded twisted Weyl modules can be obtained by taking the associated graded modules of Weyl modules for the loop algebra, which implies that its dimension and classical character are independent of the support and depend only on it…
We compute the spaces of sections of powers of the determinant line bundle on the spherical Schubert subvarieties of the Beilinson- Drinfeld affine Grassmannians. The answer is given in terms of global Demazure modules over the current Lie algebra.
We show that a tensor product of nonexceptional type Kirillov--Reshetikhin (KR) crystals is isomorphic to a direct sum of Demazure crystals; we do this in the mixed level case and without the perfectness assumption, thus generalizing a result of Naoi. We use this result to show that, given two tensor products of such KR crystals with the same maximal weight, after removing certain $0$-arrows, the two connected components containing the minimal/maximal elements are isomorphic. Based on the latter fact, we reduce a tensor product of higher level perfect KR crystals to one of single-column KR cry…
In this paper we study a family of commutative algebras generated by two infinite sets of generators. These algebras are parametrized by Young diagrams. We explain a connection of these algebras with the fusion product of integrable irreducible representations of the affine $sl_2$ Lie algebra. As an application we derive a fermionic formula for the character of the affine fusion product of two modules. These fusion products can be considered as a simplest example of the double affine Demazure modules.
In this paper we study the family of prime irreducible representations of quantum affine $\lie{sl}_{n+1}$ which arise from the work of D. Hernandez and B. Leclerc. These representations can also be described as follows: the highest weight is a product of distinct fundamental weights with parameters determined by requiring that the representation be minimal by parts. We show that such representations admit a BGG-type resolution where the role of the Verma module is played by the local Weyl module. This leads to a closed formula (the Weyl character formula) for the character of the irreducible r…
We study Demazure modules which occur in a level $\ell$ irreducible integrable representation of an affine Lie algebra. We also assume that they are stable under the action of the standard maximal parabolic subalgebra of the affine Lie algebra. We prove that such a module is isomorphic to the fusion product of "prime" \ Demazure modules, where the prime factors are indexed by dominant integral weights which are either a multiple of $\ell$ or take value less than $\ell$ on all simple coroots. Our proof depends on a technical result which we prove in all the classical cases and $G_2$. Calculatio…
We settle the fusion product decomposition theorem for higher-level affine Demazure modules for the cases $E^{(1)}_{6, 7, 8}, F^{(1)}_4$ and $E^{(2)}_{6}$, thus completing the main theorems of Chari et al. (J. Algebra, 2016) and Kus et al. (Represent. Theory, 2016). We obtain a new combinatorial proof for the key fact, that was used in Chari et al. (op cit.), to prove this decomposition theorem. We give a case free uniform proof for this key fact.
We study a family of finite--dimensional representations of the hyperspecial parabolic subalgebra of the twisted affine Lie algebra of type $\tt A_2^{(2)}$. We prove that these modules admit a decreasing filtration whose sections are isomorphic to stable Demazure modules in an integrable highest weight module of sufficiently large level. In particular, we show that any stable level $m'$ Demazure module admits a filtration by level $m$ Demazure modules for all $m\ge m'$. We define the graded and weighted generating functions which encode the multiplicity of a given Demazure module and establish…
Let g be a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra. Fix a non-negative integer l, we consider the set of dominant weights λ of g such that lΛ_0+λ is a dominant weight for the corresponding untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebra. For these special family of dominant weights, we show that the fusion product of an irreducible g-module V(λ) and a finite number of special family of g-stable Demazure modules of level l (considered in [15] and [16]), for the current algebra g[t] associated to g, again turns out to be a Demazure module. This fact is closely related with several important conjectures…
We prove asymptotic normality of the distributions defined by q-supernomials, which implies asymptotic normality of the distributions given by the central string functions and the basic specialization of fusion modules of the current algebra of sl2. The limit is taken over linearly scaled fusion powers of a fixed collection of irreducible representations. This includes as special instances all Demazure modules of the affine Kac-Moody algebra associated to sl2. Along with an available complementary result on the asymptotic normality of the basic specialization of graded tensors of the type A st…
Let $L$ be the basic (level one vacuum) representation of the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak g}$. The $m$-th space $F_m$ of the PBW filtration on $L$ is a linear span of vectors of the form $x_1... x_lv_0$, where $l\le m$, $x_i\in \hat{\mathfrak g}$ and $v_0$ is a highest weight vector of $L$. In this paper we give two descriptions of the associated graded space $L^{\rm gr}$ with respect to the PBW filtration. The "top-down" description deals with a structure of $L^{\rm gr}$ as a representation of the abelianized algebra of generating operators. We prove that the ideal of relatio…
We study certain faces of the normal polytope introduced by Feigin, Littelmann and the author whose lattice points parametrize a monomial basis of the PBW-degenerated of simple modules for $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$. We show that lattice points in these faces parametrize monomial bases of PBW-degenerated Demazure modules associated to Weyl group elements satisfying a certain closure property, for example Kempf elements. These faces are again normal polytopes and their Minkowski sum is compatible with tensor products, which implies that we obtain flat degenerations of the corresponding Schubert vari…
We consider arc spaces for the compositions of Pluecker and Veronese embeddings of the flag varieties for simple Lie groups of types ADE. The arc spaces are not reduced and we consider the homogeneous coordinate rings of the corresponding reduced schemes. We show that each graded component of a homogeneous coordinate ring is a cocyclic module over the current algebra and is acted upon by the algebra of symmetric polynomials. We show that the action of the polynomial algebra is free and that the fiber at the special point of a graded component is isomorphic to an affine Demazure module whose le…
We express the multiplicities of the irreducible summands of certain tensor products of irreducible integrable modules for an affine Kac-Moody algebra over a simply laced Lie algebra as sums of multiplicities in appropriate excellent filtrations (Demazure flags). As an application, we obtain expressions for the outer multiplicities of tensor products of two fundamental modules for $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2$ in terms of partitions with bounded parts, which subsequently lead to certain partition identities.
We give a new model for the crystal graphs of an affine Lie algebra g^, combining Littelmann's path model with the Kyoto path model. The vertices of the crystal graph are represented by certain infinitely looping paths which we call skeins. We apply this model to the case when the corresponding finite-dimensional algebra g has a minuscule representation (classical type and E_6, E_7). We prove that the basic level-one representation of g^, when considered as a representation of g, is an infinite tensor product of fundamental representations of g. A similar tensor product phenomenon holds for ce…
We prove that irreducible representations of the elliptic affine Hecke algebras of Ginzburg, Kapranov, and Vasserot are in one-to-one correspondence with certain nilpotent Higgs bundles on the elliptic curve. The main tool we use is the equivariant elliptic cohomology of the Steinberg variety of the Springer resolution. As a by-product, we study representations at roots of unity in type-$A$. As another by-product, we define a version of elliptic Demazure-Lusztig operators with dynamical parameters that satisfy the braid relations. We discuss speculative indications of this correspondence in 4d…
Let G be a split semi-simple p-adic group and let H be its Iwahori-Hecke algebra with coefficients in the algebraic closure k of the finite field with p elements. Let F be the affine flag variety over k associated with G. We show, in the simply connected simple case, that a torus-equivariant K'-theory of F (with coefficients in k) admits an H-action by Demazure operators and that this provides a model for the regular representation of H.
We prove stability of the Chari-Pressley-Loktev bases for natural inclusions of local Weyl modules of the current algebra $sl_2[t]$. These modules being known to be Demazure submodules in the level 1 representations of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{sl_2}$, we obtain, by passage to the direct limit, bases for the level 1 representations themselves.
We give a presentation of localized affine and degenerate affine Hecke algebras of arbitrary type in terms of weights of the polynomial subalgebra and varied Demazure-BGG type operators. We offer a definition of a graded algebra $\mathcal{H}$ whose category of finite-dimensional ungraded nilpotent modules is equivalent to the category of finite-dimensional modules over an associated degenerate affine Hecke algebra. Moreover, unlike the traditional grading on degenerate affine Hecke algebras, this grading factors through central characters, and thus gives a grading to the irreducible representa…
We give a detailed description of the torsors that correspond to multiloop algebras. These algebras are twisted forms of simple Lie algebras extended over Laurent polynomial rings. They play a crucial role in the construction of Extended Affine Lie Algebras (which are higher nullity analogues of the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras). The torsor approach that we take draws heavily for the theory of reductive group schemes developed by M. Demazure and A. Grothendieck. It also allows us to find a bridge between multiloop algebras and the work of J. Tits on reductive groups over complete local fields…
We prove stability of the Chari-Loktev bases with respect to the inclusions of local Weyl modules of the current algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}[t]$. This is conjectured in \cite{RRV2} and the $r=1$ case is proved in \cite{RRV1}. Local Weyl modules being known to be Demazure submodules in the level one representations of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}_{r+1}}$, we obtain, by passage to the direct limit, bases for the level one representations themselves.
The tableau model for Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KR) crystals, which are finite dimensional crystals corresponding to certain affine Lie algebras, is commonly used for its ease of crystal operator calculations. However, its simplicity makes quite complex the calculation of statistics such as: keys (used to express Demazure characters), the crystal energy function (an affine grading on tensor products of KR crystals), and the combinatorial R-matrix (an affine crystal isomorphism permuting factors in a tensor product of KR crystals). It has been shown that these calculations are much simpler with the…
