One considers the class of complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds whose heat kernel satisfies Gaussian estimates from above and below. One shows that the Riesz transform is $L^p$ bounded on such a manifold, for $p$ ranging in an open interval above 2, if and only if the gradient of the heat kernel satisfies a certain $L^p$ estimate in the same interval of $p$'s.
On a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold $M$, we prove that a so-called quasi Riesz transform is always $L^p$ bounded for $1<p\leq 2$. If $M$ satisfies the doubling volume property and the sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimate, we prove that the quasi Riesz transform is also of weak type $(1,1)$.
The goal of this article is twofold: in a first part, we prove Gaussian estimates for the heat kernel of Schr{ö}dinger operators delta + V whose potential V is "small at infinity" in an integral sense. In a second part, we prove sharp boundedness result for the associated Riesz transform with potential d(delta+V) --1/2. A characterization of p-hyperbolicity, which is of independent interest, is also proved.
In a paper from 1996, D. Jerison and C. Kenig among other results provided a $H^{1/2}$ regularity result for the Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation in Lipschitz domains. In this article, we adopt a Hilbertian approach to construct two Riesz bases for $L^2(\partial Ω),$ which will allow to find in a different way some of the results of D. Jerison and C. Kenig, and G. Savaré (1998) about the regularity issue of the Laplace equation.
We give pointwise upper estimate for the gradient of the heat kernel on some fractal-like cable systems including the Vicsek and the Sierpiński cable systems. Applications to $L^p$-boundedness of quasi-Riesz transforms are derived.
In this paper, we show the equivalence between the boundedness of the Riesz transform $dΔ^{-1/2}$ on $L^p$, $p\in (2,p_0)$, and the equality $H^p=L^p$, $p\in(2,p_0)$, in the class of manifold whose measure is doubling and for which the scaled Poincaré inequalities hold. Here, $H^p$ is a Hardy space of exact $1-$forms, naturally associated with the Riesz transform.
Let $(M^m,g)$ be a m-dimensional complete Riemannian manifold which satisfies the n-Sobolev inequality and on which the volume growth is comparable to the one of $\R^n$ for big balls; if the Hodge Laplacian on 1-forms is strongly positive and the Ricci tensor is in $L^{\frac{n}{2}\pm ε}$ for an $ε>0$, then we prove a Gaussian estimate on the heat kernel of the Hodge Laplacian on 1-forms. This allows us to prove that, under the same hypotheses, the Riesz transform $dΔ^{-1/2}$ is bounded on $L^p$ for all $1
The spatial gradient of solutions to nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations can be pointwise estimated by the caloric Riesz potential of the right hand side datum, exactly as in the case of the heat equation. Heat kernels type estimates persist in the nonlinear case
Let $M$ be a complete non-compact manifold satisfying the volume doubling condition, with doubling index $N$ and reverse doubling index $n$, $n\le N$, both for large balls. Assume a Gaussian upper bound for the heat kernel, and an $L^2$-Poincaré inequality outside a compact set. If $2<n$, then we show that for $p\in (2,n)$, $(R_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the Riesz transform, $(G_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the gradient of the heat semigroup, and $(RH_p)$: reverse $L^p$-Hölder inequality for the gradient of harmonic functions, are equivalent to each other. Our characterization implies that for $p\…
We show that the $L^p$ boundedness, $p>2$, of the Riesz transform on a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold with upper and lower Gaussian heat kernel estimates is equivalent to a certain form of Sobolev inequality. We also characterize in such terms the heat kernel gradient upper estimate on manifolds with polynomial growth.
In this paper, we prove the boundedness of Riesz transforms $\partial_{j}(-Δ)^{-1/2}$ ($j=1,2,...,n$) on the Q-type spaces $Q_α^β(\mathbb{R}^{n})$. As an application, we get the well-posedness and regularity of the quasi-geostrophic equation with initial data in $Q_α^{β,-1}(\mathbb{R}^{2}).$
As it was shown by Shen, the Riesz transforms associated to the Schrödinger operator $L=-Δ+ V$ are not bounded on $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)$-spaces for all $p, 1<p<\infty$, under the only assumption that the potential satisfies a reverse Hölder condition of order $d/2$, $d\geq3$. Furthermore, they are bounded only for $p$ in some finite interval of the type $(1,p_0)$, so it can not be expected to preserve regularity spaces. In this work we search for some kind of minimal additional conditions on the potential in order to obtain boundedness on appropriate weighted $BMO$ type regularity spaces for all …
We prove an optimal reverse Poincaré inequality for the heat semigroup generated by the sub-Laplacian on a Carnot group of any step. As an application we give new proofs of the isoperimetric inequality and of the boundedness of the Riesz transform in Carnot groups.
In this paper, we study the mapping properties of the classical Riesz potentials acting on $L^p$-spaces. In the supercritical exponent, we obtain new "almost" Lipschitz continuity estimates for these and related potentials (including, for instance, the logarithmic potential). Applications of these continuity estimates include the deduction of new regularity estimates for distributional solutions to Poisson's equation, as well as a proof of the supercritical Sobolev embedding theorem first shown by Brezis and Wainger in 1980.
With $\vecΔ_j\geq 0$ is the uniquely determined self-adjoint realization of the Laplace operator acting on $j$-forms on a geodesically complete Riemannian manifold $M$ and $\nabla$ the Levi-Civita covariant derivative, we prove amongst other things a Li-Yau type heat kernel bound for $\nabla \mathrm{e}^{ -t\vecΔ_j }$, if the curvature tensor of $M$ and its covariant derivative are bounded, an exponentially weighted $L^p$ bound for the heat kernel of $\nabla \mathrm{e}^{ -t\vecΔ_j }$, if the curvature tensor of $M$ and its covariant derivative are bounded, that $\nabla \mathrm{e}^{ -t\vecΔ_j }$…
In this paper, we consider the characterizations of the Lipschitz spaces and homogeneous Lipschitz spaces associated to the biharmonic operator $Δ^2.$ With this characterizations, we prove the boundedness of the Bessel potentials, fractional integrals, fractional powers, Riesz transforms and multipliers of Laplace transforms type associated to $Δ^2$ on Lipschitz spaces and homogeneous Lipschitz spaces. The proofs of these results need the language of semigroups in an essential way.
We derive Hölder regularity estimates for operators associated with a time independent Schrödinger operator of the form $-Δ+V$. The results are obtained by checking a certain condition on the function $T1$. Our general method applies to get regularity estimates for maximal operators and square functions of the heat and Poisson semigroups, for Laplace transform type multipliers and also for Riesz transforms and negative powers $(-Δ+V)^{-γ/2}$, all of them in a unified way.
Let $G = N \rtimes A$, where $N$ is a stratified group and $A = \mathbb{R}$ acts on $N$ via automorphic dilations. Homogeneous sub-Laplacians on $N$ and $A$ can be lifted to left-invariant operators on $G$ and their sum is a sub-Laplacian $Δ$ on $G$. Here we prove weak type $(1,1)$, $L^p$-boundedness for $p \in (1,2]$ and $H^1 \to L^1$ boundedness of the Riesz transforms $Y Δ^{-1/2}$ and $Y Δ^{-1} Z$, where $Y$ and $Z$ are any horizontal left-invariant vector fields on $G$, as well as the corresponding dual boundedness results. At the crux of the argument are large-time bounds for spatial deri…
We consider the Surface Quasi-Geostrophic equation (SQG) driven by space-time white noise and show the existence of a local in time solution by applying the theory of regularity structures. A main difficulty is the presence of Riesz-transforms in the non-linearity. We show how to lift singular integral operators with a particular structure to the level of regularity structures and using this result we deduce the existence of a solution to SQG by a renormalisation procedure. The fact that the Riesz-transforms act only in the spatial variable makes it necessary to use inhomogeneous models instea…
We give new estimates for a critical elliptic system introduced by Rivière-Struwe in \cite{riviere_struwe} (see also the work of Rupflin \cite{rupflin} and Schikorra \cite{schikorra_frames}), which generalises PDE solved by harmonic (and almost harmonic) maps from a Euclidean ball $B_1 \In \R^n$ into Riemannian manifolds. Solutions take the form $$-\Dl u = \Om.\D u $$ where $\Om$ is an anti-symmetric potential with $\Om$ and $\D u$ belonging to the Morrey space $\M^{2,n-2}$ making the PDE critical from a regularity perspective (classical theory gives one estimates on $\D u$ in the weak-Morrey …
In my previaou paper of K. Horihata, we have proposed a Ginzburg-Landau system with a time-dependent parameter and then passing to the limit we have constructed a harmonic heat flow into spheres. Thanks to this scheme, we establish a few energy inequalities of our flow: (i) monotonical inequalities and (ii) a reverse Poincare inequality at any boundary point. These inequalities (i) and (ii) derive the smaller estimates on the set on noncontinuouspoints for pur flow contrast to the former results. We refer to them by Y. Chen and Y. Chen, J. Li, F. H. Lin. Next we introduce two sufficient condit…
In this paper, the aim of our work is to establish global weighted gradient estimates via fractional maximal functions and the point-wise regularity estimates of Dirichlet problem for divergence elliptic equations of the type \begin{align*} \mathrm{div}(A(x,\nabla u)) = \mathrm{div}(f) \ \text{in} \ Ω, \mbox{ and } \ u = g \ \text{on} \ \partial Ω, \end{align*} that related to Riesz potentials. Here, in our setting, $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, $n \ge 2$ is a bounded Reifenberg flat domain (that its boundary is sufficiently flat in sense of Reifenberg) and the small-BMO condition (small bounded me…
We introduce a heat flow associated to half-harmonic maps, which have been introduced by Da Lio and Rivière. Those maps exhibit integrability by compensation in one space dimension and are related to harmonic maps with free boundary. We consider a new flow associated to these harmonic maps with free boundary which is actually motivated by a rather unusual heat flow for half-harmonic maps. We construct then weak solutions and prove their partial regularity in space and time via a Ginzburg-Landau approximation. The present paper complements the study initiated by Struwe and Chen-Lin.
Let $(X,d,μ)$ be a doubling metric measure space endowed with a Dirichlet form $\E$ deriving from a "carré du champ". Assume that $(X,d,μ,\E)$ supports a scale-invariant $L^2$-Poincaré inequality. In this article, we study the following properties of harmonic functions, heat kernels and Riesz transforms for $p\in (2,\infty]$: (i) $(G_p)$: $L^p$-estimate for the gradient of the associated heat semigroup; (ii) $(RH_p)$: $L^p$-reverse Hölder inequality for the gradients of harmonic functions; (iii) $(R_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the Riesz transform ($p<\infty$); (iv) $(GBE)$: a generalised Bakry-É…
In my previous paper I have contrived a Ginzburg-Landau heat flow with a time-dependent parameter and by using it, I constructed a harmonic heat flow into spheres with a monotonical inequality and a reverse Poincaré inequality. This paper establishes these two energy inequalities near the boundary and then by making the best of them, we discuss a partial boundary regularity. In addition to it, we demonstrate a whole domain's regularity under "the one-sided condition." This has been proposed by S.Hildebrandt and K.-O.Widman.
We establish a regularity criterion for the 3D full compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with zero heat conductivity and vacuum in a bounded domain.
We consider rough metrics on smooth manifolds and corresponding Laplacians induced by such metrics. We demonstrate that globally continuous heat kernels exist and are Hölder continuous locally in space and time. This is done via local parabolic Harnack estimates for weak solutions of operators in divergence form with bounded measurable coefficients in weighted Sobolev spaces.
In this paper we develop the theory of Schauder estimates for the fractional harmonic oscillator $H^σ=(-Δ+|x|^2)^σ$, $0<σ<1$. More precisely, a new class of smooth functions $C^{k,α}_H$ is defined, in which we study the action of $H^σ$. It turns out that these spaces are the suited ones for this type of regularity estimates. In order to prove our results, an analysis of the interaction of the Hermite-Riesz transforms with the Hölder spaces $C^{k,α}_H$ is needed, that we believe of independent interest. The parallel results for the fractional powers of the Laplacian $(-Δ)^σ$ were applied by Caf…
We study the boundary regularity for the normalised $\infty$-heat equation $u_t = Δ_{\infty}^Nu$ in arbitrary domains. Perron's Method is used for constructing solutions. We characterize regular boundary points with barrier functions, and prove an Exterior Ball result. A Petrovsky-like criterion is established.
Let $L=-Δ+V$ be a Schrödinger operator, where the potential $V$ belongs to the reverse Hölder class. By the subordinative formula, we introduce the fractional heat semigroup $\{e^{-t{L}^α}\}_{t>0}, α>0$, associated with ${L}$. By the aid of the fundamental solution of the heat equation: $$\partial_{t}u+L u=\partial_{t}u -Δu+Vu=0,$$ we estimate the gradient and the time-fractional derivatives of the fractional heat kernel $K^{L}_{α,t}(\cdot, \cdot)$, respectively. This method is independent of the Fourier transform, and can be applied to the second order differential operators whose heat kernel…
Let $M$ be a smooth Riemannian manifold which is the union of a compact part and a finite number of Euclidean ends, $\RR^n \setminus B(0,R)$ for some $R > 0$, each of which carries the standard metric. Our main result is that the Riesz transform on $M$ is bounded from $L^p(M) \to L^p(M; T^*M)$ for $1 < p < n$ and unbounded for $p \geq n$ if there is more than one end. It follows from known results that in such a case the Riesz transform on $M$ is bounded for $1 < p \leq 2$ and unbounded for $p > n$; the result is new for $2 < p \leq n$. We also give some heat kernel estimates on such manifolds…
We prove the maximal local regularity of weak solutions to the parabolic problem associated with the fractional Laplacian with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions on an arbitrary bounded open set $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$. Proofs combine classical abstract regularity results for parabolic equations with some new local regularity results for the associated elliptic problems.
We establish heat kernel and gradient estimates for the density of kinetic degenerate Kolmogorov stochastic differentia equations. Our results are established under somehow minimal assumptions that guarantee the SDE is weakly well posed.
In this paper we investigate regularity aspects for solutions of the nonlinear parabolic equation $$ u_t= Δu^m, \quad m > 1 $$ usually called the porous medium equation. More precisely, we provide sharp regularity estimates for bounded nonnegative weak solutions along the free boundary $\partial\{u>0\}$, when the equation is universally close to the heat equation. As a consequence, local Lipschitz estimates are also established for this scenario.
For an abstract self-adjoint operator $L$ and a local operator $A$ we study the boundedness of the Riesz transform $AL^{-α}$ on $L^p$ for some $α>0$. A very simple proof of the obtained result is based on the finite speed propagation property for the solution of the corresponding wave equation. We also discuss the relation between the Gaussian bounds and the finite speed propagation property. Using the wave equation methods we obtain a new natural form of the Gaussian bounds for the heat kernels for a large class of the generating operators. We describe a surprisingly elementary proof of the f…
A solution of the heat equation with a distribution-valued potential is constructed by regularization. When the potential is the generalized derivative of a Hölder continuous function, regularity of the resulting solution is in line with the standard parabolic theory.
The goal of this paper is to develop some basic harmonic analysis tools for the Dirichlet Laplacian in the exterior domain associated to a smooth convex obstacle in dimensions $d\geq 3$. Specifically, we will discuss analogues of the Mikhlin Multiplier Theorem, Littlewood-Paley Theory, and Hardy inequalities, culminating in a proof that homogeneous Sobolev norms defined with respect to the Dirichlet and whole-space Laplacians are equivalent for the sharp ranges of integrability exponent $p$ and regularity $s$. Counterexamples are included to show that these results are indeed sharp. In particu…
For the Schrödinger operator $-Δ_\rm{g}+V$ on a complete Riemannian manifold with real valued potential $V$ of compact support, we establish a sharp equivalence between Sobolev regularity of $V$ and the existence of finite-order asymptotic expansions as $t\rightarrow 0$ of the relative trace of the Schrödinger heat kernel. As an application, we generalize a result of Sà Barreto and Zworski, concerning the existence of resonances on compact metric perturbations of Euclidean space, to the case of bounded measurable potentials.
We consider Muckenhoupt weights $w$, and define weighted Hardy spaces $H^p_{\mathcal{T}}(w)$, where $\mathcal{T}$ denotes a conical square function or a non-tangential maximal function defined via the heat or the Poisson semigroup generated by a second order divergence form elliptic operator $L$. In the range $0<p< 1$, we give a molecular characterization of these spaces. Additionally, in the range $p\in \mathcal{W}_w(p_-(L),p_+(L))$ we see that these spaces are isomorphic to the $L^p(w)$ spaces. We also consider the Riesz transform $\nabla L^{-\frac{1}{2}}$, associated with $L$, and show that…
In this paper, we prove that if the initial data $θ_0$ and its Riesz transforms ($\mathcal{R}_1(θ_0)$ and $\mathcal{R}_2(θ_0)$) belong to the space $(\overline{S(\mathbb{R}^2))}^{B_{\infty}^{1-2α,\infty}}$, where $α\in ]1/2,1[$, then the 2D Quasi-Geostrophic equation with dissipation $α$ has a unique global in time solution $θ$. Moreover, we show that if in addition $θ_0 \in X$ for some functional space $X$ such as Lebesgue, Sobolev and Besov's spaces then the solution $θ$ belongs to the space $C([0,+\infty [,X).$
Sharp Besov regularities in time and space variables are investigated for $\left(u(t,x),\; t\in [0,T],\; x\in \mathbb{R}\right)$, the mild solution to the stochastic heat equation driven by space-time white noise. Existence, Hölder continuity, and Besov regularity of local times are established for $u(t,x)$ viewed either as a process in the space variable or time variable. Hausdorff dimensions of their corresponding level sets are also obtained.
This article considers nonlocal heat flows into a singular target space. The problem is the parabolic analogue of a stationary problem that arises as the limit of a singularly perturbed elliptic system. It also provides a gradient flow approach to an optimal eigenvalue partition problem that, in light of the work of Caffarelli and Lin, is equivalent to a constrained harmonic mapping problem. In particular, we show that weak solutions of our heat equation converge as time approaches infinity to stationary solutions of this mapping problem. For these weak solutions, we also prove Lipschitz conti…
This paper is dedicated to the proof of new maximal regularity results involving Besov spaces for the heat equation in the half-space or in bounded or exterior domains of R^n. We strive for time independent a priori estimates in regularity spaces of type L^1(0,T;X) where X stands for some homogeneous Besov space. In the case of bounded domains, the results that we get are similar to those of the whole space or of the half-space. For exterior domains, we need to use mixed Besov norms in order to get a control on the low frequencies. Those estimates are crucial for proving global-in-time results…
