Let $G$ be a split reductive group over a local field $\bK$, and let $G((t))$ be the corresponding loop group. In \cite{GK} we have introduced the notion of a representation of (the group of $\bK$-points) of $G((t))$ on a pro-vector space. In addition, we have defined an induction procedure, which produced $G((t))$-representations from usual smooth representations of $G$. We have conjectured that the induction of a cuspidal irreducible representation of $G$ is irreducible. In this paper we prove this conjecture for $G=SL_2$.
For infinite reductive groups with Frobenius maps, we show that certain subquotients of abstract representations of the groups induced from 1-dimensional representations of Borel subgroups are irreducible.
Let $π$ be an irreducible, complex, smooth representation of $GL_n$ over a local non-archimedean (skew) field. Assuming $π$ has regular Zelevinsky parameters, we give a geometric necessary and sufficient criterion for the irreducibility of the parabolic induction of $π\otimesπ$ to $GL_{2n}$. The latter irreducibility property is the $p$-adic analogue of a special case of the notion of "real representations" introduced by Leclerc and studied recently by Kang-Kashiwara-Kim-Oh (in the context of KLR or quantum affine algebras). Our criterion is in terms of singularities of Schubert varieties of t…
Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $K$ of characteristic $p > 0$. We consider connected reductive subgroups $X$ of $G$ that contain a given distinguished unipotent element $u$ of $G$. A result of Testerman and Zalesski (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 2013) shows that if $u$ is a regular unipotent element, then $X$ cannot be contained in a proper parabolic subgroup of $G$. We generalize their result and show that if $u$ has order $p$, then except for two known examples which occur in the case $(G, p) = (C_2, 2)$, the subgroup $X$ cannot be contained in a proper para…
Let $G$ be a connected, reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$ of prime characteristic $p$ and $\mathfrak{g}=Lie(G)$. In this paper, we study representations of $\mathfrak{g}$ with a $p$-character $χ$ of standard Levi form. When $\mathfrak{g}$ is of type $A_n, B_n, C_n$ or $D_n$, a sufficient condition for the irreducibility of standard parabolic baby Verma $\mathfrak{g}$-modules is obtained. This partially answers a question raised by Friedlander and Parshall in [Friedlander E. M. and Parshall B. J., Deformations of Lie algebra representations, Amer. J. Math. 112 (19…
It is proved that certain types of modular cusp forms generate irreducible automorphic representation of the underlying algebraic group. Analogous archimedean and non-archimedean local statements are also given.
Let G be a connected reductive group over an algebraic closure of a finite field Fq. In this paper it is proved that the infinite dimensional Steinberg module of kG defined by N. Xi in 2014 is irreducible when k is a field of positive characteristic and char k is not char Fq. For certain special linear groups, we show that the Steinberg modules of the groups are not quasi-finite with respect to some natural quasi-finite sequences of the groups.
This paper deals with sufficiency conditions for irreducibility of certain induced modules. We also construct irreducible representations for a group $G$ over a field ${\mathbb K}$ where the group $G$ is a semidirect product of a normal abelian subgroup $N$ and a subgroup $H$. The main results are proved with the assumption that ${\rm char} {\mathbb K}$ does not divide $|G|$ but there is no assumption made of ${\mathbb K}$ being algebraically closed.
Let $G$ be a reductive affine algebraic group, and let $X$ be an affine algebraic $G$-variety. We establish a (poly)stability criterion for points $x\in X$ in terms of intrinsically defined closed subgroups $H_{x}$ of $G$, and relate it with the numerical criterion of Mumford, and with Richardson and Bate-Martin-Röhrle criteria, in the case $X=G^{N}$. Our criterion builds on a close analogue of a theorem of Mundet and Schmitt on polystability and allows the generalization to the algebraic group setting of results of Johnson-Millson and Sikora about complex representation varieties of finitely …
We prove that certain quiver varieties are irreducible and therefore are isomorphic to Hilbert schemes of points of the total spaces of the bundles $\mathcal O_{\mathbb P^1}(-n)$ for $n \ge 1$.
We introduce the infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebra ${\mathcal A}$ and construct a family of mappings from certain category of ${\mathcal A}$-modules to the category of A_1^(1)-modules of critical level. Using this approach, we prove the irreducibility of a family of A_1^(1)-modules at the critical level. As a consequence, we present a new proof of irreducibility of certain Wakimoto modules. We also give a natural realizations of irreducible quotients of relaxed Verma modules and calculate characters of these representations.
Irreducible representations are the building blocks of general, semisimple Galois representations ρ, and cuspidal representations are the building blocks of automorphic forms πof the general linear group. It is expected that when an object of the former type is associated to one of the latter type, usually in terms of an identity of L-functions, the irreducibility of the former should imply the cuspidality of the latter, and vice-versa. It is not a simple matter - at all - to prove this expectation in either direction, and nothing much is known in dimensions >2. The main result of this article…
We establish an irreducibility property for the characters of finite dimensional, irreducible representations of simple Lie algebras (or simple algebraic groups) over the complex numbers, i.e., that the characters of irreducible representations are irreducible after dividing out by (generalized) Weyl denominator type factors. For $SL(r)$ the irreducibility result is the following: let $λ=(a_1\geq a_2\geq ... a_{r-1}\geq 0)$ be the highest weight of an irreducible rational representation $V_λ$ of $SL(r)$. Assume that the integers $a_1+r-1, ~a_2+r-2,..., a_{r-1}+1$ are relatively prime. Then the…
Let pi be a regular, algebraic, essentially self-dual cuspidal automorphic representation of GL_n(A_F), where F is a totally real field and n is at most 5. We show that for all primes l, the l-adic Galois representations associated to pi are irreducible, and for all but finitely many primes l, the mod l Galois representations associated to pi are also irreducible. We also show that the Lie algebras of the Zariski closures of the l-adic representations are independent of l.
This paper investigates the irreducibility of certain representations for the Lie algebra of divergence zero vector fields on a torus. In "Irreducible Representations of the Lie-Algebra of the Diffeomorphisms of a d-Dimensional Torus," S. Eswara Rao constructs modules for the Lie algebra of polynomial vector fields on a d-dimensional torus, and determines the conditions for irreducibility. The current paper considers the restriction of these modules to the subalgebra of divergence zero vector fields. It is shown here that Rao's results transfer to similar irreducibility conditions for the Lie …
In this paper we construct a class of homogeneous Hilbert modules over the disc algebra $\mathcal{A}(\mathbb D)$ as quotients of certain natural modules over the function algebra $\mathcal{A}(\mathbb D^2)$. These quotient modules are described using the jet construction for Hilbert modules. We show that the quotient modules obtained this way, belong to the class ${\mathrm B}_k(\mathbb D)$ and that they are mutually inequivalent, irreducible and homogeneous.
We extend the Dong-Mason theorem on the irreducibility of modules for orbifold vertex algebras from [C. Dong, G. Mason, Duke Math. J. 86 (1997)] 305-321] for the category of weak modules. Let $V$ be a vertex operator algebra, $g$ an automorphism of order $p$. Let $W$ be an irreducible weak $V$--module such that $W,W\circ g,\dots,W\circ g^{p-1}$ are inequivalent irreducible modules. We prove that $W$ is an irreducible weak $V^{\left\langle g\right\rangle }$-module. This result can be applied on irreducible modules of certain Lie algebra $\mathfrak L$ such that $W,W\circ g,\dots,W\circ g^{p-1}$ …
For a compact homogeneous space $G/K$, we study the problem of existence of $G$-invariant Riemannian metrics such that each eigenspace of the Laplacian is a real irreducible representation of $G$. We prove that the normal metric of a compact irreducible symmetric space has this property only in rank one. Furthermore, we provide existence results for such metrics on certain isotropy reducible spaces.
We prove a conjecture for the irreducibility of singular Gelfand-Tsetlin modules. We describe explicitly the irreducible subquotients of certain classes of singular Gelfand-Tsetlin modules.
the program of Langlands is studied here on the basis of: a)new concepts of global class field theory related to the explicit construction of global class fields and of reciprocity laws; b)the representations of the reductive algebraic groups GL(n) constituting the n-dimensional representations of the associated global Weil groups; c)a toroidal compactification of the conjugacy classes of these reductive algebraic groups whose analytic representations constitute the cuspidal representations of these groups GL(n) in the context of harmonic analysis. This leads us to build two types of n-dimensi…
We prove that irreducible complex representations of finitely generated nilpotent groups are monomial if and only if they have finite weight, which was conjectured by Parshin. Note that we consider (possibly, infinite-dimensional) representations without any topological structure. Besides, we prove that for certain induced representations, irreducibility is implied by Schur irreducibility. Both results are obtained in a more general form for representations over an arbitrary field.
In this paper we discuss the structure of the tensor product V'_{α,β}\otimes L(c,h) of irreducible module from intermediate series and irreducible highest weight module over the Virasoro algebra. We generalize Zhang's irreducibility criterion, and show that irreducibility depends on the existence of integral roots of a certain polynomial, induced by a singular vector in the Verma module V(c,h). A new type of irreducible Vir-module with infinite-dimensional weight subspaces is found. We show how the existence of intertwining operator for modules over vertex operator algebra yields reducibility …
Irreducibility results for parabolic induction of representations of the general linear group over a local non-archimedean field can be formulated in terms of Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials of type $A$. Spurred by these results and some computer calculations, we conjecture that certain alternating sums of Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials known as parabolic Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials satisfy properties analogous to those of the ordinary ones.
In this paper, we give an explicit computable algorithm for the Zelevinsky-Aubert dual of irreducible representations of $p$-adic symplectic and odd special orthogonal groups. To do this, we establish explicit formulas for certain derivatives and socles. We also give a combinatorial criterion for the irreducibility of certain parabolically induced representations.
We show a precise formula, in the form of a monomial, for certain families of parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of the symmetric group. The proof stems from results of Lapid-Minguez on irreducibility of products in the Bernstein-Zelevinski ring. By quantizing those results into a statement on quantum groups and their canonical bases, we obtain identities of coefficients of certain transition matrices that relate Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials to their parabolic analogues. This affirms some basic cases of conjectures raised recently by Lapid.
This book is mainly an exposition of the author's works and his joint works with his former students on explicit representations of finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras, related partial differential equations, linear orthogonal algebraic codes, combinatorics and algebraic varieties. Various oscillator generalizations of the classical representation theorem on harmonic polynomials are presented. New functors from the representation category of a simple Lie algebra to that of another simple Lie algebra are given. Partial differential equations play key roles in solving certain representation p…
We study the unitary boundary representation of a strongly transitive group acting on a right-angled hyperbolic building. We show its irreducibility. We do so by associating to such a representation a representation of a certain Hecke algebra, which is a deformation of the classical representation of a hyperbolic reflection group. We show that the associated Hecke algebra representation is irreducible.
We establish duality theory of p-adic unitary Banach representations of locally profinite groups. This is an extension of Iwasawa theory for profinite groups by P. Schneider and J. Teitelbaum. We also establish a criterion for an irreducibility of a unitary representation by certain simpleness of the Iwasawa module dual to it. Through the duality, the continuous induction of a unitary Banach representation of a closed subgroup is interpreted as a certain induction of Iwasawa module. It gives an explicit description of the dual of a continuous parabolic induction on GL_n(Q_p).
