We develop basic properties of solutions to the Dirac-Hodge and Laplace equations in upper half space endowed with the hyperbolic metric. Solutions to the Dirac-Hodge equation are called hypermonogenic functions while solutions to this version of Laplace's equation are called hyperbolic harmonic functions. We introduce a Borel-Pompeiu formula and a Green's formula for hyperbolic harmonic functions. Using a Cauchy Integral formula we are able to introduce Hardy spaces of solutions to the Dirac-Hodge equation. We also provide new arguments describing the conformal covariance of hypermonogenic functions and invariance of hyperbolic harmonic functions. We introduce intertwining operators for the Dirac-Hodge operator and hyperbolic Laplacian.
We consider generalized Hodge-Laplace operators $αd δ+ βδd$ for $α, β> 0$ on $p$-forms on compact Riemannian manifolds. In the case of flat tori and round spheres of different radii, we explicitly calculate the spectrum of these operators. Furthermore, we investigate under which circumstances they are isospectral.
We give a new procedure for generalized factorization and construction of the complete solution of strictly hyperbolic linear partial differential equations or strictly hyperbolic systems of such equations in the plane. This procedure generalizes the classical theory of Laplace transformations of second-order equations in the plane.
What is the suitable Laplace operator on vector fields for the Navier-Stokes equation on a Riemannian manifold? In this note, by considering Nash embedding, we will try to elucidate different aspects of different Laplace operators such as de Rham-Hodge Laplacian as well as Ebin-Marsden's Laplacian. A probabilistic representation formula for Navier-Stokes equations on a general compact Riemannian manifold is obtained when de Rham-Hodge Laplacian is involved. MSC 2010: 35Q30, 58J65
We couple the mixed variational problem for the generalized Hodge-Helmholtz or Hodge-Laplace equation posed on a bounded three-dimensional Lipschitz domain with the first-kind boundary integral equation arising from the latter when constant coefficients are assumed in the unbounded complement. Recently developed Calderon projectors for the relevant boundary integral operators are used to perform a symmetric coupling. We prove stability of the coupled problem away from resonant frequencies by establishing a generalized Garding inequality (T-coercivity). The resulting system of equations describ…
Due to the isotropy $d$-dimensional hyperbolic space, there exist a spherically symmetric fundamental solution for its corresponding Laplace-Beltrami operator. On the $R$-radius hyperboloid model of $d$-dimensional hyperbolic geometry with $R>0$ and $d\ge 2$, we compute azimuthal Fourier expansions for a fundamental solution of Laplace's equation. For $d\ge 2$, we compute a Gegenbauer polynomial expansion in geodesic polar coordinates for a fundamental solution of Laplace's equation on this negative-constant sectional curvature Riemannian manifold. In three-dimensions, an addition theorem for …
A geometric interpretation is given for certain elliptic-hyperbolic systems in the plane. Among several examples, one which reduces in the elliptic region to the equations for harmonic 1-forms on the projective disc is studied in detail. A boundary-value problem for this example is formulated and is shown to possess weak solutions.
We prove a Caffarelli--Kohn--Nirenberg inequality in the hyperbolic space. For a semilinear elliptic equation involving the associated weighted Laplace--Beltrami operator, we establish variationally the existence of positive radial solutions in the subcritical regime. We also show a non-existence result in star-shaped domains when the exponent is supercritical.
We show that non-uniqueness of the Leray-Hopf solutions of the Navier--Stokes equation on the hyperbolic plane observed in arXiv:1006.2819 is a consequence of the Hodge decomposition. We show that this phenomenon does not occur on the hyperbolic spaces of higher dimension. We also describe the corresponding general Hamiltonian setting of hydrodynamics on complete Riemannian manifolds, which includes the hyperbolic setting.
We investigate the existence of non-constant uniformly-bounded minimal solutions of the Allen-Cahn equation on a Gromov-hyperbolic group. We show that whenever the Laplace term in the Allen-Cahn equation is small enough, there exist minimal solutions satisfying a large class of prescribed asymptotic behaviours. For a phase field model on a hyperbolic group, such solutions describe phase transitions that asymptotically converge towards prescribed phases, given by asymptotic directions. In the spirit of de Giorgi's conjecture, we then fix an asymptotic behaviour and let the Laplace term go to ze…
In this paper, we study the dispersive properties of the wave equation associated with the shifted Laplace-Beltrami operator on real hyperbolic spaces, and deduce Strichartz estimates for a large family of admissible pairs. As an application, we obtain local well-posedness results for the nonlinear wave equation.
We construct invariant differential operators acting on sections of vector bundles of densities over a smooth manifold without using a Riemannian metric. The spectral invariants of such operators are invariant under both the diffeomorphisms and the gauge transformations and can be used to induce a new theory of gravitation. It can be viewed as a matrix generalization of Einstein general relativity that reproduces the standard Einstein theory in the weak deformation limit. Relations with various mathematical constructions such as Finsler geometry and Hodge-de Rham theory are discussed.
This paper presents the construction of parametrices for the Gauss-Bonnet and Hodge Laplace operators on noncompact manifolds modelled on Q-rank 1 locally symmetric spaces. These operators are, up to a scalar factor, $ϕ$-differential operators, that is, they live in the generalised $ϕ$-calculus studied by the authors in a previous paper, which extends work of Melrose and Mazzeo. However, because they are not totally elliptic elements in this calculus, it is not possible to construct parametrices for these operators within the $ϕ$-calculus. We construct parametrices for them in this paper using…
We consider restrictions along closed geodesics and geodesic circles for eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a compact hyperbolic Riemann surface. We obtain a non-trivial bound on the L^2-norm of such restrictions as the eigenvalue tends to infinity. We use methods from the theory of automorphic functions and in particular the uniqueness of invariant functionals on irreducible unitary representations of PGL(2,R).
We consider the Klein--Gordon equation associated with the Laplace--Beltrami operator $Δ$ on real hyperbolic spaces of dimension $n\!\ge\!2$; as $Δ$ has a spectral gap, the wave equation is a particular case of our study. After a careful kernel analysis, we obtain dispersive and Strichartz estimates for a large family of admissible couples. As an application, we prove global well--posedness results for the corresponding semilinear equation with low regularity data.
We present the Laplace operator associated to a hyperbolic surface $Γ\setminus\mathbb{H}$ and a unitary representation of the fundamental group $Γ$, extending the previous definition for hyperbolic surfaces of finite area to those of infinite area. We show that the resolvent of this operator admits a meromorphic continuation to all of $\mathbb{C}$ by constructing a parametrix for the Laplacian, following the approach by Guillopé and Zworski. We use the construction to provide an optimal upper bound for the counting function of the poles of the continued resolvent.
For hyperbolic first-order systems of linear partial differential equations (master equations), appearing in description of kinetic processes in physics, biology and chemistry we propose a new procedure to obtain their complete closed-form non-stationary solutions. The methods used include the classical Laplace cascade method as well as its recent generalizations for systems with more than 2 equations and more than 2 independent variables. As an example we present the complete non-stationary solution (probability distribution) for Verhulst model driven by Markovian coloured dichotomous noise.
We describe the spectrum of the $k$-form Laplacian on conformally cusp Riemannian manifolds. The essential spectrum is shown to vanish precisely when the $k$ and $k-1$ de Rham cohomology groups of the boundary vanish. We give Weyl-type asymptotics for the eigenvalue-counting function in the purely discrete case. In the other case we analyze the essential spectrum via positive commutator methods and establish a limiting absorption principle. This implies the absence of the singular spectrum for a wide class of metrics. We also exhibit a class of potentials $V$ such that the Schrödinger operator…
