The 3-transposition groups that act on a vertex operator algebra in the way described by Miyamoto are classified under the assumption that the group is centerfree and the VOA carries a positive-definite invariant Hermitian form. This generalizes and refines the result of Kitazume and Miyamoto. Application to a similar but different situation is also considered in part by a slight generalization of the argument.
In this paper, we study the subalgebra generated by two Ising vectors in the Griess algebra of a vertex operator algebra. We show that the structure of it is uniquely determined by some inner products of Ising vectors. We prove that the order of the product of two $τ$-involutions is less than or equal to 6 and we determine the inner product of two Ising vectors.
We review 3-transposition groups arising in vertex operator algebra theory. One can construct a commutative algebra called the Matsuo algebra out of a 3-transposition group. Some 3-transposition groups arise as automorphism groups of vertex operator algebras via Matsuo algebras but there exist some 3-transposition groups which do not arise through Matsuo algebras. We will exhibit examples of those groups together with VOAs. This article is based on the author's talk at the seminar on ``Majorana, Axial, Vertex Algebras and the Monster (MAVAM)'' held online on June 4th, 2021.
In this paper, we present a general construction of 3-transposition groups as automorphism groups of vertex operator algebras. Applying to the moonshine vertex operator algebra, we establish the Conway-Miyamoto correspondences between Fischer 3-transposition groups $\mathrm{Fi}_{23}$ and $\mathrm{Fi}_{22}$ and $c=25/28$ and $c=11/12$ Virasoro vectors of subalgebras of the moonshine vertex operator algebra.
In this paper, we show that $σ$-involutions associated to extendable c=4/5 Virasoro vectors generate a 3-transposition group in the automorphism group of a vertex operator algebra (VOA). Several explicit examples related to lattice VOA are also discussed in details. In particular, we show that the automorphism group of the VOA $V_{K_{12}}^{\hatν}$ associated to the Coxeter Todd lattice $K_{12}$ contains a subgroup isomorphic to ${}^+Ω^{-}(8,3)$.
E7 part: In this paper, we study McKay's E7 observation on the Baby Monster. By investigating so called derived c=7/10 Virasoro vectors, we show that there is a natural correspondence between dihedral subgroups of the Baby Monster and certain subalgebras of the Baby Monster vertex operator algebra which are constructed by the nodes of the affine E7 diagram. This allows us to reinterpret McKay's E7 observation via the theory of vertex operator algebras. For a class of vertex operator algebras including the Moonshine module, we will show that the product of two Miyamoto involutions associated to…
We determine fusion rules (dimensions of the space of intertwining operators) among simple modules for the vertex operator algebra obtained as an even part of the symplectic fermionic vertex operator superalgebra. By using these fusion rules we show that the fusion algebra of this vertex operator algebra is isomorphic to the group algebra of the Klein four group over Z.
We construct an irrational C_2-cofinite vertex operator algebra associatted to a finite dimensional vector space with a nondegenerate skew-symmetric bilinear form. We also classify its equivalence classes of irreducible modules and determine its automorphism group.
Vertex operator realizations of symplectic and orthogonal Schur functions are studied and expanded. New proofs of determinant identities of irreducible characters for the symplectic and orthogonal groups are given. We also give a new proof of the duality between the universal orthogonal and symplectic Schur functions using vertex operators.
Axial algebras are commutative algebras generated by idempotents; they generalise associative algebras by allowing the idempotents to have additional eigenvectors, controlled by fusion rules. If the fusion rules are $\mathbb{Z}/2$-graded, axial algebras afford representations of transposition groups. We consider axial representations of Weyl groups of simply-laced root systems, which are examples of regular $3$-transposition groups. We introduce coset axes, a special class of idempotents based on embeddings of transposition groups, and use them to study the propagation of fusion rules in axial…
In this paper, we study the family of vertex operator algebras $SF(d)^+$, known as symplectic fermions. This family is of a particular interest because these VOAs are irrational and $C_2$-cofinite. We determine the Zhu's algebra $A(SF(d)^+)$ and show that the equality of dimensions of $A(SF(d)^+)$ and the $C_2$--algebra $\mathcal P(SF(d)^+)$ holds for $d \geq 2$ (the case of $d=1$ was treated by T. Abe). We use these results to prove a conjecture by Y. Arike and K. Nagatomo on the dimension of the space of one-point functions on $SF(d)^+$.
Using recent results of the author along with Vander Werf, we present the classification and construction of mirror-twisted modules for N=2 supersymmetric vertex operator superalgebras of the form $V \otimes V$ for the signed transposition mirror map automorphism. In particular, we show that the category of such mirror-twisted sectors for $V\otimes V$ is isomorphic to the category of N=1 Ramond sectors for $V$.
We give a functorial construction of the genus zero chiral algebras of class $\mathcal{S}$, that is, the vertex algebras corresponding to the theory of class $\mathcal{S}$ associated with genus zero pointed Riemann surfaces via the 4d/2d duality discovered by Beem, Lemos, Liendo, Peelaers, Rastelli and van Rees in physics. We show that there is a unique family of vertex algebras satisfying the required conditions and show that they are all simple and conformal. In fact, our construction works for any complex semisimple group G that is not necessarily simply laced. Furthermore, we show that the…
In this paper, we explore a consequence of symplectic duality (also known as 3d mirror symmetry) in the setting of enumerative geometry. The theory of quasimaps allows one to associate hypergeometric functions called vertex functions to quiver varieties. In this paper, we prove a formula which relates the vertex functions of $T^*Gr(k,n)$ and its symplectic dual. In the course of the proof, we study a family of $q$-difference operators which act diagonally on Macdonald polynomials. Our results may be interpreted from a combinatorial perspective as providing an evaluation formula for a $q$-Selbe…
Let V be the even part of the vertex operator super-algebra of r pairs of symplectic fermions. Up to two conjectures, we show that V admits a unique holomorphic extension if r is a multiple of 8, and no holomorphic extension otherwise. This is implied by two results obtained in this paper: 1) If r is a multiple of 8, one possible holomorphic extension is given by the lattice vertex operator algebra for the even self dual lattice $D_r^+$ with shifted stress tensor. 2) We classify Lagrangian algebras in SF(h), a ribbon category associated to symplectic fermions. The classification of holomorphic…
We discuss the gluing construction of class $\mathcal{S}$ chiral algebras in derived setting. The gluing construction in non-derived setting was introduced by Arakawa to construct a family of vertex algebras of which the associated varieties give genus zero Moore-Tachikawa symplectic varieties. Motivated by the higher genus case, we introduce a dg vertex algebra version $\mathsf{MT}_{\mathrm{ch}}$ of the category of Moore-Tachikawa symplectic varieties, where a morphism is given by a dg vertex algebra equipped with action of the universal affine vertex algebra, and composition of morphisms is …
We introduce two mirror constructions of Vertex Operator Algebras associated to special boundary conditions in 3d N=4 gauge theories. We conjecture various relations between these boundary VOA's and properties of the (topologically twisted) bulk theories. We discuss applications to the Symplectic Duality and Geometric Langlands programs.
We conjecture that the category of permutation-twisted modules for a multi-fold tensor product vertex operator superalgebra and a cyclic permutation of even order is isomorphic to the category of parity-twisted modules for the underlying vertex operator superalgebra. This conjecture is based on our observations of the cyclic permutation-twisted modules for free fermions as we discuss in this work, as well as previous work of the first author constructing and classifying permutation-twisted modules for tensor product vertex operator superalgebras and a permutation of odd order. In addition, we …
We construct a family of vertex algebras associated with a family of symplectic singularity/resolution, called hypertoric varieties. While the hypertoric varieties are constructed by a certain Hamiltonian reduction associated with a torus action, our vertex algebras are constructed by (semi-infinite) BRST reduction. The construction works algebro-geometrically and we construct sheaves of $\hbar$-adic vertex algebras over hypertoric varieties which localize the vertex algebras. We show when the vertex algebras are vertex operator algebras by giving explicit conformal vectors. We also show that …
Let $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)Λ_0)$, $n \in \Bbb N$, be a vertex operator algebra associated to the irreducible highest weight module $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)Λ_0)$ for a symplectic affine Lie algebra. We find a complete set of irreducible modules for $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)Λ_0)$ and show that every module for $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)Λ_0)$ from the category $\Cal O$ is completely reducible.
We give a method to construct pseudo-trace functions for vertex operator algebras satisfying Zhu's finiteness condition not through higher Zhu's algebras and apply our method to the Z_2-orbifold model associated with d-pairs of symplectic fermions. For d=1, we determine the dimension of the space of one-point functions. For d>1, we construct 2^{2d-1}+3 linearly independent one-point functions and study their values at the vacuum vector.

We present a free field realisation for the vertex operator algebra associated to the genus-two, class $\mathcal{S}$ superconformal field theory of type $\mathfrak{a}_1$. The free field realisation is in the style of recent work by the authors, and is formulated in terms of a one-dimensional isotropic lattice vertex algebra along with two pairs of symplectic fermions. Our realisation makes manifest an enhanced ${\rm USp}(4)$ outer automorphism group of the VOA that is inherited from the symplectic fermion system. This extends an ${\rm SU(2)}$ outer automorphism that has been observed in recent…
The $\mathcal{B}_p$-algebras are a family of vertex operator algebras parameterized by $p\in \mathbb Z_{\geq 2}$. They are important examples of logarithmic CFTs and appear as chiral algebras of type $(A_1, A_{2p-3})$ Argyres-Douglas theories. The first member of this series, the $\mathcal{B}_2$-algebra, are the well-known symplectic bosons also often called the $βγ$ vertex operator algebra. We study categories related to the $\mathcal{B}_p$ vertex operator algebras using their conjectural relation to unrolled restricted quantum groups of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. These categories are braided, rigid …
We introduce a family of factorisable ribbon quasi-Hopf algebras $Q(N)$ for $N$ a positive integer: as an algebra, $Q(N)$ is the semidirect product of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{Z}_2$ with the direct sum of a Grassmann and a Clifford algebra in $2N$ generators. We show that $Rep Q(N)$ is ribbon equivalent to the symplectic fermion category $SF(N)$ that was computed by the third author from conformal blocks of the corresponding logarithmic conformal field theory. The latter category in turn is conjecturally ribbon equivalent to representations of $V_{ev}$, the even part of the symplectic fermion vertex…
In this paper we discuss the second bosonization of the Hirota bilinear equation for the CKP hierarchy introduced by Date, Jimbo, Kashiwara and Miwa. We show that there is a second, untwisted, Heisenberg action on the Fock space, in addition to the twisted Heisenberg action suggested by Date, Jimbo, Kashiwara and Miwa and studied by van de Leur, Orlov and Shiota. We derive the decomposition of the Fock space into irreducible Heisenberg modules under this action. We show that the space spanned by the highest weight vectors of the irreducible Heisenberg modules has a structure of a super vertex …
The rank 1 bosonic ghost vertex algebra, also known as the $βγ$ ghosts, symplectic bosons or Weyl vertex algebra, is a simple example of a conformal field theory which is neither rational, nor $C_2$-cofinite. We identify a module category, denoted category $\mathscr{F}$, which satisfies three necessary conditions coming from conformal field theory considerations: closure under restricted duals, closure under fusion and closure under the action of the modular group on characters. We prove the second of these conditions, with the other two already being known. Further, we show that category $\ma…
We introduce a subalgebra $\overline F$ of the Clifford vertex superalgebra ($bc$ system) which is completely reducible as a $L^{Vir} (-2,0)$-module, $C_2$-cofinite, but it is not conformal and it is not isomorphic to the symplectic fermion algebra $\mathcal{SF}(1)$. We show that $\mathcal{SF}(1)$ and $\overline{F}$ are in an interesting duality, since $\overline{F}$ can be equipped with the structure of a $\mathcal{SF}(1)$-module and vice versa. Using the decomposition of $\overline F$ and a free-field realization from arXiv:1711.11342, we decompose $L_k(\mathfrak{osp}(1\vert 2))$ at the crit…
The chiral conformal field theory of free super-bosons is generated by weight one currents whose mode algebra is the affinisation of an abelian Lie super-algebra h with non-degenerate super-symmetric pairing. The mode algebras of a single free boson and of a single pair of symplectic fermions arise for even|odd dimension 1|0 and 0|2 of h, respectively. In this paper, the representations of the untwisted mode algebra of free super-bosons are equipped with a tensor product, a braiding, and an associator. In the symplectic fermion case, i.e. if h is purely odd, the braided monoidal structure is e…

The Lie algebra $\mathcal{D}$ of regular differential operators on the circle has a universal central extension $\hat{\mathcal{D}}$. The invariant subalgebra $\hat{\mathcal{D}}^+$ under an involution preserving the principal gradation was introduced by Kac, Wang, and Yan. The vacuum $\hat{\mathcal{D}}^+$-module with central charge $c\in\mathbb{C}$, and its irreducible quotient $\mathcal{V}_c$, possess vertex algebra structures, and $\mathcal{V}_c$ has a nontrivial structure if and only if $c\in \frac{1}{2}\mathbb{Z}$. We show that for each integer $n>0$, $\mathcal{V}_{n/2}$ and $\mathcal{V}_{-…
