We discuss the gluing construction of class $\mathcal{S}$ chiral algebras in derived setting. The gluing construction in non-derived setting was introduced by Arakawa to construct a family of vertex algebras of which the associated varieties give genus zero Moore-Tachikawa symplectic varieties. Motivated by the higher genus case, we introduce a dg vertex algebra version $\mathsf{MT}_{\mathrm{ch}}$ of the category of Moore-Tachikawa symplectic varieties, where a morphism is given by a dg vertex algebra equipped with action of the universal affine vertex algebra, and composition of morphisms is given by the BRST reduction. We also show that the procedure taking the associated scheme of gives a functor from $\mathsf{MT}_{\mathrm{ch}}$ to the category $\mathsf{MT}$ of derived Moore-Tachikawa varieties, which would imply compatibility of gluing constructions in both categories.
Extending work of Budzynski and Kondracki, we investigate coverings and gluings of algebras and differential algebras. We describe in detail the gluing of two quantum discs along their classical subspace, giving a C*-algebra isomorphic to a certain Podles sphere, as well as the gluing of U_{\sqrt{q}}(sl_2)-covariant differential calculi on the discs.
We construct a four-parameter family of affine Yangian algebras by gluing two copies of the affine Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}_1$. Our construction allows for gluing operators with arbitrary (integer or half integer) conformal dimension and arbitrary (bosonic or fermionic) statistics, which is related to the relative framing. The resulting family of algebras is a two-parameter generalization of the $\mathcal{N}=2$ affine Yangian, which is isomorphic to the universal enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{u}(1)\oplus \mathcal{W}^{\mathcal{N}=2}_{\infty}[λ]$. All algebras that we construct have natural …
The paper presents applications of Toeplitz algebras in Noncommutative Geometry. As an example, a quantum Hopf fibration is given by gluing trivial U(1) bundles over quantum discs (or, synonymously, Toeplitz algebras) along their boundaries. The construction yields associated quantum line bundles over the generic Podles spheres which are isomorphic to those from the well-known Hopf fibration of quantum SU(2). The relation between these two versions of quantum Hopf fibrations is made precise by giving an isomorphism in the category of right U(1)-comodules and left modules over the C*-algebra of…
We give an explicit description of factorization algebras over the affine line, constructing them from the gluing data determined by its corresponding OPE algebra. We then generalize this construction to factorization monoids, obtaining a description of them in terms of a non-linear version of OPE algebras which we call OPE monoids. In the translation equivariant setting this approach allows us to define vertex ind-schemes, which we interpret as a conformal analogue of the notion of Lie group, since we show that their linearizations yield vertex algebras and that their Zariski tangent spaces a…
Take finitely many topological spaces and for each pair of these spaces choose a pair of corresponding closed subspaces that are identified by a homeomorpism. We note that this gluing procedure does not guarantee that the building pieces, or the gluings of some pieces, are embedded in the space obtained by putting together all given ingredients. Dually, we show that a certain sufficient condition, called the cocycle condition, is also necessary to guarantee sheaf-like properties of surjective multi-pullbacks of algebras with distributive lattices of ideals.
We relate commutative algebras in braided tensor categories to braid-reversed tensor equivalences, motivated by vertex algebra representation theory. First, for $\mathcal{C}$ a braided tensor category, we give a detailed construction of the canonical algebra in $\mathcal{C}\boxtimes\mathcal{C}^\text{rev}$: if $\mathcal{C}$ is semisimple but not necessarily finite or rigid, then $\bigoplus_{X\in\text{Irr}(\mathcal{C})}X'\boxtimes X$ is a commutative algebra, with $X'$ a representing object for $\text{Hom}_\mathcal{C}(\bullet\otimes_\mathcal{C}X,\mathbf{1}_{\mathcal{C}})$. Conversely, let $A=\bi…
We start studying chiral algebras (as defined by A. Beilinson and V. Drinfeld) from the point of view of deformation theory. First, we define the notion of deformation of a chiral algebra on a smooth curve $X$ over a bundle of local artinian commutative algebras on $X$ equipped with a flat connection (whereas `usual' algebraic structures are deformed over a local artinian algebra) and we show that such deformations are controlled by a certain *-Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$. Then we try to contemplate a possible additional structure on $\mathfrak g$ and we conjecture that this structure up to homo…
We take a peek at a general program that associates vertex (or, chiral) algebras to smooth 4-manifolds in such a way that operations on algebras mirror gluing operations on 4-manifolds and, furthermore, equivalent constructions of 4-manifolds give rise to equivalences (dualities) of the corresponding algebras.
In this paper, we study the higher Hochschild functor and its relationship with factorization algebras and topological chiral homology. To this end, we emphasize that the higher Hochschild complex is a $(\infty,1)$-functor from the category $\hsset \times \hcdga$ to the category $\hcdga$ (where $\hsset$ and $\hcdga$ are the $(\infty,1)$-categories of simplicial sets and commutative differential graded algebras) and give an axiomatic characterization of this functor. From the axioms we deduce several properties and computational tools for this functor. We study the relationship between the high…
Based on any chiral vertex operator algebra satisfying a suitable finiteness condition, the semisimplicity of the zero-mode algebra as well as a regularity for induced modules, we construct conformal field theory over the projective line with the chiral vertex operator algebra as symmetries of the theory. We appropriately generalize the argument in [TUY] so that we are able to define sheaves of conformal blocks for chiral vertex operator algebras and study them in detail. We prove the factorization theorem under the fairly general conditions for chiral vertex operator algebras and the zero-mod…
We describe a new algebraic structure of "deformed chiral algebra" motivated by the study of the deformed W-algebras. We use it to gain some insights into the deformed Virasoro algebra.
We present explicit global constructions - avoiding power series - of certain chiral CFTs, including current algebras on the projective line. We outline an approach to vertex algebras, inspired by this construction. We construct natural pairings on state spaces.
We obtain explicit expressions for all genus one chiral n-point functions for free bosonic and lattice vertex operator algebras. We also consider the elliptic properties of these functions.
We study the chiral homology of elliptic curves with coefficients in a quasiconformal vertex algebra. Our main result expresses the nodal curve limit of the first chiral homology group in terms of the Hochschild homology of the Zhu algebra of V. A technical result of independent interest regarding the equivalence between the associated graded with respect to Li's filtration and the arc space of the C_2 algebra is presented.
We recall Borcherds's approach to vertex algebras via "singular commutative rings", and introduce new examples of his constructions which we compare to vertex algebras, chiral algebras, and factorization algebras. We show that all vertex algebras (resp. chiral algebras or equivalently factorization algebras) can be realized in these new categories $\text{VA}(A,H,S)$, but we also show that the functors from $\text{VA}(A,H,S)$ to vertex algebras or chiral algebras are not equivalences: a single vertex or chiral algebra may have non-equivalent realizations as an $(A, H,S)$-vertex algebra.
A module M over a vertex algebra V is half-integrable if a_n act locally nilpotently on M for all a in V, m in M, n>0. We study half-integrable modules over sheaves of twisted chiral differential operators (TCDO) on a smooth variety X. We prove an equivalence between certain categories of half-integrable modules over TCDO and categories of (twisted) D-modules on X.
We study chiral algebras associated with Argyres-Douglas theories engineered from M5 brane. For the theory engineered using 6d $(2,0)$ type $J$ theory on a sphere with a single irregular singularity (without mass parameter), its chiral algebra is the minimal model of W algebra of $J$ type. For the theory engineered using an irregular singularity and a regular full singularity, its chiral algebra is the affine Kac-Moody algebra of $J$ type. We can obtain the Schur index of these theories by computing the vacua character of the corresponding chiral algebra.
We extend the theory of chiral and factorization algebras, developed for curves by Beilinson and Drinfeld in \cite{bd}, to higher-dimensional varieties. This extension entails the development of the homotopy theory of chiral and factorization structures, in a sense analogous to Quillen's homotopy theory of differential graded Lie algebras. We prove the equivalence of higher-dimensional chiral and factorization algebras by embedding factorization algebras into a larger category of chiral commutative coalgebras, then realizing this interrelation as a chiral form of Koszul duality. We apply these…
A cluster variety of Fock and Goncharov is a scheme constructed by gluing split algebraic tori, called seed tori, via birational gluing maps called mutations. In quantum theory, the ring of functions on seed tori are deformed to non-commutative rings, represented as operators on Hilbert spaces. Mutations are quantized to unitary maps between the Hilbert spaces intertwining the representations. These unitary intertwiners are described using the quantum dilogarithm function $Φ^\hbar$. Algebraic relations among classical mutations are satisfied by the intertwiners up to complex constants. The pre…
Four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theories have families of protected correlation functions that possess the structure of two-dimensional chiral algebras. In this paper, we explore the chiral algebras that arise in this manner in the context of theories of class S. The class S duality web implies nontrivial associativity properties for the corresponding chiral algebras, the structure of which is best summarized in the language of generalized topological quantum field theory. We make a number of conjectures regarding the chiral algebras associated to various strongly coupled fixed point…
For any 4d N=2 SCFT, there is a subsector described by a 2d chiral algebra. The vacuum character of the chiral algebra reproduces the Schur index of the corresponding 4d theory. The Macdonald index counts the same set of operators as the Schur index, but the former has one more fugacity than the latter. We conjecture a prescription to obtain the Macdonald index from the chiral algebra. The vacuum module admits a filtration, from which we construct an associated graded vector space. From this grading, we conjecture a notion of refined character for the vacuum module of a chiral algebra, which r…
We introduce a notion of quadratic duality for chiral algebras. This can be viewed as a chiral version of the usual quadratic duality for quadratic associative algebras. We study the relationship between this duality notion and the Maurer-Cartan equations for chiral algebras, which turns out to be parallel to the associative algebra case. We also present some explicit examples.
We calculate chiral rings of the N=2 vertex algebras constructed from the combinatorial data of toric mirror symmetry and show that they coincide with the description of stringy cohomology conjectured previously in a joint work with A. Mavlyutov.
We explore two-dimensional sigma models with (0,2) supersymmetry through their chiral algebras. Perturbatively, the chiral algebras of (0,2) models have a rich infinite-dimensional structure described by the cohomology of a sheaf of chiral differential operators. Nonperturbatively, instantons can deform this structure drastically. We show that under some conditions they even annihilate the whole algebra, thereby triggering the spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry. For a certain class of Kähler manifolds, this suggests that there are no harmonic spinors on their loop spaces and gives a physica…
Trace map on deformation quantized algebra leads to the algebraic index theorem. In this paper, we investigate a two-dimensional chiral analogue of the algebraic index theorem via the theory of chiral algebras developed by Beilinson and Drinfeld. We construct a trace map on the elliptic chiral homology of the free beta gamma-bc system using the BV quantization framework. As an example, we compute the trace evaluated on the unit constant chiral chain and obtain the formal Witten genus in the Lie algebra cohomology. We also construct a family of elliptic trace maps on coset models.
We derive conjectures for the N=2 "chiral" determinant formulae of the Topological algebra, the Antiperiodic NS algebra, and the Periodic R algebra, corresponding to incomplete Verma modules built on chiral topological primaries, chiral and antichiral NS primaries, and Ramond ground states, respectively. Our method is based on the analysis of the singular vectors in chiral Verma modules and their spectral flow symmetries, together with some computer exploration and some consistency checks. In addition, and as a consequence, we uncover the existence of subsingular vectors in these algebras, giv…
