We calculate chiral rings of the N=2 vertex algebras constructed from the combinatorial data of toric mirror symmetry and show that they coincide with the description of stringy cohomology conjectured previously in a joint work with A. Mavlyutov.
In this paper, we study the perturbative aspects of a "B-twisted" two-dimensional $(0,2)$ heterotic sigma model on a holomorphic gauge bundle $\mathcal E$ over a complex, hermitian manifold $X$. We show that the model can be naturally described in terms of the mathematical theory of ``Chiral Differential Operators". In particular, the physical anomalies of the sigma model can be reinterpreted as an obstruction to a global definition of the associated sheaf of vertex superalgebras derived from the free conformal field theory describing the model locally on $X$. In addition, one can also obtain …
A vertex algebra is an algebraic counterpart of a two-dimensional conformal field theory. We give a new definition of a vertex algebra which includes chiral algebras as a special case, but allows for fields which are neither meromorphic nor anti-meromorphic. To any complex torus equipped with a flat Kahler metric and a closed 2-form we associate an N=2 superconformal vertex algebra (N=2 SCVA) in the sense of our definition. We find a criterion for two different tori to produce isomorphic N=2 SCVA's. We show that for algebraic tori isomorphism of N=2 SCVA's implies the equivalence of the derive…
The goal of this paper is to make the vertex operator algebra approach to mirror symmetry accessible to algebraic geometers. Compared to better-known approaches using moduli spaces of stable maps and special Lagrangian fibrations, this approach follows more closely the original line of thinking that lead to the discovery of mirror symmetry by physicists. The ultimate goal of the vertex algebra approach is to give precise mathematical definitions of N=(2,2) superconformal field theories called A and B models associated to any Calabi-Yau variety and then show that thus constructed theories are r…
We give a vertex algebra proof of the Berglund-Hübsch duality of nondegenerate invertible potentials. We suggest a way to unify it with the Batyrev-Borisov duality of reflexive Gorenstein cones.
Mirror Symmetry for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties is by now well established. However, previous approaches to it did not uncover the underlying reason for mirror varieties to be mirror. We are able to calculate explicitly vertex algebras that correspond to holomorphic parts of A and B models of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces and complete intersections in toric varieties. We establish the relation between these vertex algebras for mirror Calabi-Yau manifolds. This should eventually allow us to rewrite the whole story of toric Mirror Symmetry in the language of sheaves of vertex algebras…
For three-partition triple Hodge integrals related to the topological vertex, we derive Eynard-Orantin type recursion relations from the cut-and-join equation. This establishes a version of local mirror symmetry for the local $C^3$ geometry with three D-branes, as proposed by Marino and Bouchard-Klemm-Marino-Pasquetti.
We prove the Bouchard-Mariño Conjecture for the framed one-legged topological vertex by deriving the Eynard-Orantin type recursion relations from the cut-and-join equation satisfied by the relevant triple Hodge integrals. This establishes a version of local mirror symmetry for the local $C^3$ geometry with one $D$-brane.
We present explicit global constructions - avoiding power series - of certain chiral CFTs, including current algebras on the projective line. We outline an approach to vertex algebras, inspired by this construction. We construct natural pairings on state spaces.
We recall Borcherds's approach to vertex algebras via "singular commutative rings", and introduce new examples of his constructions which we compare to vertex algebras, chiral algebras, and factorization algebras. We show that all vertex algebras (resp. chiral algebras or equivalently factorization algebras) can be realized in these new categories $\text{VA}(A,H,S)$, but we also show that the functors from $\text{VA}(A,H,S)$ to vertex algebras or chiral algebras are not equivalences: a single vertex or chiral algebra may have non-equivalent realizations as an $(A, H,S)$-vertex algebra.
These are notes of a series of lectures on mirror symmetry and topological string theory given at the Mathematical Sciences Center at Tsinghua University. The N=2 superconformal algebra, its deformations and its chiral ring are reviewed. A topological field theory can be constructed whose observables are only the elements of the chiral ring. When coupled to gravity, this leads to topological string theory. The identification of the topological string A- and B-models by mirror symmetry leads to surprising connections in mathematics and provides tools for exact computations as well as new insigh…
Aganagic and Okounkov proved that the elliptic stable envelope provides the pole cancellation matrix for the enumerative invariants of quiver varieties known as vertex functions. This transforms a basis of a system of $q$-difference equations holomorphic in $\boldsymbol{z}$ with poles in $\boldsymbol{a}$ to a basis of solutions holomorphic in $\boldsymbol{a}$ with poles in $\boldsymbol{z}$. The resulting functions are expected to be the vertex functions of the 3d mirror dual variety. In this paper, we prove that for the cotangent bundle of the full flag variety, the functions obtained in this …
Following the idea of Aganagic--Okounkov \cite{AOelliptic}, we study vertex functions for hypertoric varieties, defined by $K$-theoretic counting of quasimaps from $\mathbb{P}^1$. We prove the 3d mirror symmetry statement that the two sets of $q$-difference equations of a 3d hypertoric mirror pairs are equivalent to each other, with Kähler and equivariant parameters exchanged, and the opposite choice of polarization. Vertex functions of a 3d mirror pair, as solutions to the $q$-difference equations, satisfying particular asymptotic conditions, are related by the elliptic stable envelopes. Vari…
We construct a cubic field theory which provides all genus amplitudes of the topological A-model for all non-compact Calabi-Yau toric threefolds. The topology of a given Feynman diagram encodes the topology of a fixed Calabi-Yau, with Schwinger parameters playing the role of Kahler classes of Calabi-Yau. We interpret this result as an operatorial computation of the amplitudes in the B-model mirror which is the Kodaira-Spencer quantum theory. The only degree of freedom of this theory is an unconventional chiral scalar on a Riemann surface. In this setup we identify the B-branes on the mirror Ri…
We show that complex multiplication on abelian varieties is equivalent to the existence of a constant rational Kähler metric. We give a sufficient condition for a mirror of an abelian variety of CM-type to be of CM-type as well. We also study the relationship between complex multiplication and rationality of a toroidal lattice vertex algebra.
Let $X$ be a Nakajima quiver variety and $X'$ its $3d$-mirror. We consider the action of the Picard torus $\mathsf{K}=\mathrm{Pic}(X)\otimes \mathbb{C}^{\times}$ on $X'$. Assuming that $(X')^{\mathsf{K}}$ is finite, we propose a formula for the $\mathsf{K}$-character of the tangent spaces at the fixed points in terms of certain enumerative invariants of $X$ known as vertex functions.
This article is a continuation of math.QA/0603633 Given a strongly conformal SUSY vertex algebra V and a supercurve X we construct a vector bundle V_X on X, the fiber of which, is isomorphic to V. Moreover, the state-field correspondence of V canonically gives rise to (local) sections of these vector bundles. We also define chiral algebras on any supercurve X, and show that the vector bundle V_X, corresponding to a SUSY vertex algebra, carries the structure of a chiral algebra.
We introduce the notion of chiral symplectic cores in a vertex Poisson variety, which can be viewed as analogs of symplectic leaves in Poisson varieties. As an application we show that any quasi-lisse vertex algebra is a quantization of the arc space of its associated variety, in the sense that its reduced singular support coincides with the reduced arc space of its associated variety. We also show that the coordinate ring of the arc space of Slodowy slices is free over its vertex Poisson center, and the latter coincides with the vertex Poisson center of the coordinate ring of the arc space of…
We define a version of a derived chiral De Rham complex over a locally complete intersection, thereby "chiralizing" a result by Illusie and Bhatt. A similar construction attaches to a graded ring a dg vertex algebra, which we prove to be Morita equivalent to a dg algebra of differential operators. For example, the dg vertex algebra associated to a fat point, which also arises in the Landau-Ginzburg model, is shown to be derived rational.
We demonstrate that the $τ^{(j)}$-matrices in the superintegrable chiral Potts model possess the Onsager algebra symmetry for their degenerate eigenvalues. The Fabricius-McCoy comparison of functional relations of the eight-vertex model for roots of unity and the superintegrable chiral Potts model has been carefully analyzed by identifying equivalent terms in the corresponding equations, by which we extract the conjectured relation of $Q$-operators and all fusion matrices in the eight-vertex model corresponding to the $T\hat{T}$-relation in the chiral Potts model.
The chiral de Rham complex is a sheaf of vertex algebras Ω^ch_M on any nonsingular algebraic variety or complex manifold M, which contains the ordinary de Rham complex as the weight zero subspace. We show that when M is a Kummer surface, the algebra of global sections is isomorphic to the N = 4 superconformal vertex algebra with central charge 6. Previously, CP^n was the only manifold where a complete description of the global section algebra was known.
In this paper we prove a formula relating the equivariant Euler characteristic of $K$-theoretic stable envelopes to an object known as the index vertex for the cotangent bundle of the full flag variety. Our formula demonstrates that the index vertex is the power series expansion of a rational function. This result is a consequence of the 3d mirror self-symmetry of the variety considered here. In general, one expects an analogous result to hold for any two varieties related by 3d mirror symmetry.
We construct and study some vertex theoretic invariants associated to Poisson varieties, specialising in the conformal weight $0$ case to the familiar package of Poisson homology and cohomology. In order to do this conceptually we sketch a version of the \emph{calculus}, in the sense of \cite{TT}, adapted to the context of vertex algebras. We obtain the standard theorems of Poisson (co)homology in this \emph{chiral} context. This is part of a larger project related to promoting non-commutative geometric structures to chiral versions of such.
