We give a vertex algebra proof of the Berglund-Hübsch duality of nondegenerate invertible potentials. We suggest a way to unify it with the Batyrev-Borisov duality of reflexive Gorenstein cones.
We consider whether or not transpose-dual pairs, which is a Berglund--H$\ddot{\textnormal{u}}$bsch mirror studied by Ebeling and Ploog \cite{EbelingPloog}, extend to a polytope duality that has a potential to be lattice dual.
We prove that the mirror symmetry of Berglund-Hübsch-Chiodo-Ruan, applied to K3 surfaces with a non-symplectic involution, coincides with the mirror symmetry described by Dolgachev and Voisin.
Ebeling and Ploog \cite{EbelingPloog} studied a duality of bimodular singularities which is part of the Berglund--H$\ddot{\textnormal{u}}$bsch mirror symmetry. Mase and Ueda \cite{MU} showed that this duality leads to a polytope mirror symmetry of families of $K3$ surfaces. We discuss in this article how this symmetry extends to a symmetry between lattices.
We study an example of complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefold due to Libgober and Teitelbaum arXiv:alg-geom/9301001, and verify mirror symmetry at a cohomological level. Direct computations allow us to propose an analogue to the Berglund-Hübsch mirror symmetry setup for this example arXiv:hep-th/9201014. We then follow the approach of Krawitz to propose an explicit mirror map arXiv:0906.0796.
We give an elementary approach to proving the birationality of multiple Berglund-Hübsch-Krawitz (BHK) mirrors by using Shioda maps. We do this by creating a birational picture of the BHK correspondence in general. Although a similar result has been obtained in recent months by Shoemaker, our proof is new in that it sidesteps using toric geometry and drops an unnecessary hypothesis. We give an explicit quotient of a Fermat variety to which the mirrors are birational.
We give an expository discussion of recent work using Berglund-Huebsch-Krawitz mirror symmetry to describe the structure of point counts on algebraic varieties over finite fields.
We investigate a multiple mirror phenomenon arising from Berglund-Hübsh-Krawitz mirror symmetry. We prove that the different mirror Calabi-Yau orbifolds which arise in this context are in fact birational to one another.
Given a two-variable invertible polynomial, we show that its category of maximally-graded matrix factorisations is quasi-equivalent to the Fukaya-Seidel category of its Berglund-Hübsch transpose. This was previously shown for Brieskorn-Pham and $D$-type singularities by Futaki-Ueda. The proof involves explicit construction of a tilting object on the B-side, and comparison with a specific basis of Lefschetz thimbles on the A-side.
We match the elliptic genus of a Berglund-Hübsch model with the supertrace of $y^{J[0]}q^{L[0]}$ on a vertex algebra $V_{{\bf 1}, {\bf 1}}$. We show that it is a weak Jacobi form and the elliptic genus of one theory is equal to (up to a sign) the elliptic genus of its mirror.
This paper discusses the overlap of the Hori-Vafa formulation of mirror symmetry with some other constructions. We focus on compact Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces \mathcal{M}_G = {G = 0} in weighted complex projective spaces. The Hori-Vafa formalism relates a family {\mathcal{M}_G \in WCP^{m-1}_{Q_1,...,Q_m}[s] | \sum_{i=1}^m Q_i = s} of such hypersurfaces to a single Landau-Ginzburg mirror theory. A technique suggested by Hori and Vafa allows the Picard-Fuchs equations satisfied by the corresponding mirror periods to be determined. Some examples in which the variety \mathcal{M}_G is crepantly resol…
We prove a derived analogue to the results of Borisov, Clarke, Kelly, and Shoemaker on the birationality of Berglund-Hubsch-Krawitz mirrors. Heavily bootstrapping off work of Seidel and Sheridan, we obtain Homological Mirror Symmetry for Berglund-Hubsch-Krawitz mirror pencils to hypersurfaces in projective space.
We show that there is an extra dimension to the mirror duality discovered in the early nineties by Greene-Plesser and Berglund-Hübsch. Their duality matches cohomology classes of two Calabi--Yau orbifolds. When both orbifolds are equipped with an automorphism $s$ of the same order, our mirror duality involves the weight of the action of $s^*$ on cohomology. In particular, it matches the respective $s$-fixed loci, which are not Calabi-Yau in general. When applied to K3 surfaces with non-symplectic automorphism $s$ of odd prime order, this provides a proof that Berglund-Hübsch mirror symmetry im…
We give a survey on results related to the Berglund-Hübsch duality of invertible polynomials and the homological mirror symmetry conjecture for singularities.
We generalize and give an elementary proof of Kelly's refinement of Shoemaker's result on the birationality of certain BHK-mirrors. Our approach uses a construction that is equivalent to the Krawitz generalization of the duality of Berglund-Hubsch.
A. Takahashi suggested a conjectural method to find mirror symmetric pairs consisting of invertible polynomials and symmetry groups generated by some diagonal symmetries and some permutations of variables. Here we generalize the Saito duality between Burnside rings to a case of non-abelian groups and prove a "non-abelian" generalization of the statement about the equivariant Saito duality property for invertible polynomials. It turns out that the statement holds only under a special condition on the action of the subgroup of the permutation group called here PC ("parity condition"). An inspect…
In this paper we consider the class of K3 surfaces defined as hypersurfaces in weighted projective space, and admitting a non-symplectic automorphism of non-prime order, excluding the orders 4, 8, and 12. We show that on these surfaces the Berglund-Hübsch-Krawitz mirror construction and mirror symmetry for lattice polarized K3 surfaces constructed by Dolgachev agree; that is, both versions of mirror symmetry define the same mirror K3 surface.
These expository notes are based on lectures by Yongbin Ruan during a special semester on the B-model at the University of Michigan in Winter 2014. They outline and compare the mirror symmetry constructions of Batyrev-Borisov, Hori-Vafa, and Berglund-Hubsch-Krawitz.
We show that the mirror constructions of Greene-Plesser, Berglund-Hubsch, Batryev-Borsov, Givental and Hori-Vafa can be expressed in terms of what we call dual fans. To do this, we associate to a pair of dual fans a pair of toric Landau-Ginzburg models, and we describe a process by which each of the mirror constructions listed also produces a pair of toric Landau-Ginzburg models. Replacing mirror pairs by toric Landau-Ginzburg models is reversible, and our main result is the dual fan models and the mirror pairs models coincide.
We consider the Berglund-Hübsch-Henningson-Takahashi duality of Landau-Ginzburg orbifolds with a symmetry group generated by some diagonal symmetries and some permutations of variables. We study the orbifold Euler characteristics, the orbifold zeta functions and the orbifold E-functions of such dual pairs. We conjecture that we get a mirror symmetry between these invariants even on each level, where we call level the conjugacy class of a permutation. We support this conjecture by giving partial results for each of these invariants.
We show how the Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the quintic three-fold can be cast into a global mirror symmetry framework. Then we draw inspiration from Berglund-Hübsch mirror duality construction to provide an analogue conjectural picture featuring all Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces within weighted projective spaces and certain quotients by finite abelian group actions.
We consider K3 surfaces that possess certain automorphisms of prime order p>2 and we present, for these surfaces, a correspondence between the mirror symmetry of Berglund-Huebsch-Chiodo-Ruan and that for lattice polarized K3 surfaces presented by Dolgachev.
In this note we study several conditions to be imposed on a mirror symmetry candidate to the generic multi-quasihomogeneous Calabi-Yau variety defined in the product of the quasihomogeneous projective spaces. We propose several properties for a Calabi-Yau complete intersection variety so that its period integrals can be expressed by means of quasihomogeneous weights of its mirror symmetry candidate as it has been suggested by Berglund, Candelas et altri. As a corollary, we see certain duality between the monodromy data and the Poincaré polynomials of the Euler characteristic for the pairs of o…
We consider Takahashi's categorical interpretation of the Berglund-Hubsch mirror symmetry conjecture for invertible polynomials in the case of chain polynomials. Our strategy is based on a stronger claim that the relevant categories satisfy a recursion of directed $A_{\infty}$-categories, which may be of independent interest. We give a full proof of this claim on the B-side. On the A-side we give a detailed sketch of an argument, which falls short of a full proof because of certain missing foundational results in Fukaya-Seidel categories, most notably a generation statement.
In this article, we study the Berglund--Hübsch transpose construction W^T for invertible quasihomogeneous potential W. We introduce the dual group G^T and establish the state space isomorphism between the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten A-model of W/G and the orbifold Milnor ring B-model of W^T/G^T. Furthermore, we prove a mirror symmetry theorem at the level of Frobenius algebra structure for G^max. Then, we interpret Arnol'd strange duality of exceptional singularities W as mirror symmetry between W/J and its strange dual W^SD.
We consider an orbifold Landau-Ginzburg model $(f,G)$, where $f$ is an invertible polynomial in three variables and $G$ a finite group of symmetries of $f$ containing the exponential grading operator, and its Berglund-Hübsch transpose $(f^T, G^T)$. We show that this defines a mirror symmetry between orbifold curves and cusp singularities with group action. We define Dolgachev numbers for the orbifold curves and Gabrielov numbers for the cusp singularities with group action. We show that these numbers are the same and that the stringy Euler number of the orbifold curve coincides with the $G^T$-…
We prove the classical mirror symmetry conjecture for the mirror pairs constructed by Berglund, Hübsch, and Krawitz. Our main tool is a cohomological LG/CY correspondence which provides a degree-preserving isomorphism between the cohomology of finite quotients of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces inside a weighted projective space and the Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten state space of the associated Landau-Ginzburg singularity theory.
We generalize the cohomological mirror duality of Borcea and Voisin in any dimension and for any number of factors. Our proof applies to all examples which can be constructed through Berglund-Hübsch duality. Our method is a variant of the so-called Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence of Calabi-Yau orbifolds with an involution that does not preserve the volume form. We deduce a version of mirror duality for the fixed loci of the involution, which are beyond the Calabi-Yau category and feature hypersurfaces of general type.
We consider a pair consisting of an invertible polynomial and a finite abelian group of its symmetries. Berglund, Hübsch, and Henningson proposed a duality between such pairs giving rise to mirror symmetry. We define an orbifoldized signature for such a pair using the orbifoldized elliptic genus. In the case of three variables and based on the homological mirror symmetry picture, we introduce two integral lattices, a transcendental and an algebraic one. We show that these lattices have the same rank and that the signature of the transcendental one is the orbifoldized signature. Finally, we giv…
In the framework of constructing mirror symmetric pairs of Calabi-Yau manifolds, P. Berglund, T. Hübsch and M. Henningson considered a pair $(f,G)$ consisting of an invertible polynomial $f$ and a finite abelian group $G$ of its diagonal symmetries and associated to this pair a dual pair $(\widetilde{f}, \widetilde{G})$. A. Takahashi suggested a generalization of this construction to pairs $(f, G)$ where $G$ is a non-abelian group generated by some diagonal symmetries and some permutations of variables. In a previous paper, the authors showed that some mirror symmetry phenomena appear only und…
