We consider principal fibre bundles with a given connection and construct almost complex structures on the total space if the adjoint bundle is isomorphic to the tangent bundle of the base. We derive the integrability condition. If the structure group is compact, then a choice of an ad-invariant inner product on its Lie algebra gives naturally the structure of a Riemannian manifold to the base. The integrability condition is then expressed in geometric terms. In particular we get a relation to hyperbolic geometry if the structure group is SU(2) or SO(3). The bundle of orthonormal frames of a hyperbolic oriented 3-manifold is naturally a complex manifold. If the base is geodesically complete and connected, then we can endow the total space with a locally free transitive holomorphic action of the complexified structure group. We then get some restrictions for holomorphic maps from Riemann surfaces to the total space. If the pull-back of a canonical Lie algebra valued 1-form on the total space is of scalar form, then the holomorphic map factorises through an elliptic curve. If the induced map to the base is conformal, then the associated holomorphic map with value in $P^2 \mathbb{C}$ factorises through a smooth quadric.
We prove that a holomorphic Lie algebroid is integrable if, and only if, its underlying real Lie algebroid is integrable. Thus the integrability criteria of Crainic-Fernandes do also apply in the holomorphic context without any modification. As a consequence we give another proof of the following theorem: a holomorphic Poisson manifold is integrable if, and only if, its real (or imaginary) part is integrable as a real Poisson manifold.
Let $G$ be a connected complex Lie group and $Γ\subset G$ a cocompact lattice. Let $H$ be a complex Lie group. We prove that a holomorphic principal $H$-bundle $E_H$ over $G/Γ$ admits a holomorphic connection if and only if $E_H$ is invariant. If $G$ is simply connected, we show that a holomorphic principal $H$-bundle $E_H$ over $G/Γ$ admits a flat holomorphic connection if and only if $E_H$ is homogeneous.
We introduce a class of non-commutative, complex, infinite-dimensional Heisenberg like Lie groups based on an abstract Wiener space. The holomorphic functions which are also square integrable with respect to a heat kernel measure $μ$ on these groups are studied. In particular, we establish a unitary equivalence between the square integrable holomorphic functions and a certain completion of the universal enveloping algebra of the "Lie algebra" of this class of groups. Using quasi-invariance of the heat kernel measure, we also construct a skeleton map which characterizes globally defined functio…
Given a complex manifold $M$ equipped with a holomorphic action of a connected complex Lie group $G$, and a holomorphic principal $H$--bundle $E_H$ over $X$ equipped with a $G$--connection $h$, we investigate the connections on the principal $H$--bundle $E_H$ that are (strongly) adapted to $h$. Examples are provided by holomorphic principal $H$--bundles equipped with a flat partial connection over a foliated manifold.
A new construction of a universal connection was given in \cite{BHS}. The main aim here is to explain this construction. A theorem of Atiyah and Weil says that a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ over a compact Riemann surface admits a holomorphic connection if and only if the degree of every direct summand of $E$ is degree. In \cite{AB}, this criterion was generalized to principal bundles on compact Riemann surfaces. This criterion for principal bundles is also explained.
We give a complete characterization of invariant integrable complex structures on principal bundles defined over hermitian symmetric spaces, using the Jordan algebraic approach for the curvature computations. In view of possible generalizations, the general setup of invariant holomorphic principal fibre bundles is described in a systematic way.
An order four automorphism of a Lie algebra gives rise to an integrable system discussed by Terng. We show that solutions of this system may be identified with certain vertically harmonic twistor lifts of conformal maps of surfaces in a Riemannian symmetric space. Specialising to 4-dimensional target, we find that surfaces with holomorphic mean curvature in 4-dimensional spaces with constant sectional or holomorphic sectional curvatures constitute an integrable system as do Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian surfaces in a 4-dimensional Hermitian symmetric space (this last being a result of Hele…
Via the transverse Hilbert scheme construction, we associate a holomorphic completely integrable system to a surface $S$ endowed with a holomorphic symplectic form $ω$ and a projection onto $\mathbb{C}$. We provide a full characterization of the completely integrable systems that arise in this way.
Let $M$ be a compact connected Fujiki manifold, $G$ a semisimple affine algebraic group over $\mathbb C$ with one simple factor and $P$ a fixed proper parabolic subgroup of $G$. For a holomorphic principal $G$--bundle $E_G$ over $M$, let ${\mathcal E}_P$ be the holomorphic principal $P$-bundle $E_G\rightarrow E_G/P$ given by the quotient map. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (1) ${\rm ad}(E_G)$ is numerically flat, (2) the holomorphic line bundle $\bigwedge^{\rm top} {\rm ad}({\mathcal E}_P)^*$ is nef, and (3) for every reduced irreducible compact complex analytic s…
We study the tt*-geometry with vanishing endormorphism $\mathcal{U}$. Given an integrable harmonic Higgs bundle $(E, h, Φ, \mathcal{U},\mathcal{Q})$ on a complex manifold $M$, Firstly we prove that, under the \emph{IS} condition, vanishing $\mathcal{U}$ implies vanishing Higgs field $Φ$ and the Chern connection of the Hermitian Einstein metric $h$ is a holomorphic connection, so the metric $h$ and $\mathcal{Q}$ are invariant. Secondly, without the \emph{IS} condition, we show that vanishing $\mathcal{U}$ will imply vanishing Higgs field $Φ$ if we assume that the Chern connection of $h$ is a ho…
We extend the spectral theory of generalized Laplacians to integrable metrics on compact Riemann surfaces. As a consequence, we attach in a direct way, a holomorphic analytic torsion to any integrable metrics. We also provide a different approach to define the holomorphic analytic torsion. We prove that both approaches agree.
A principal pair consists of a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle together with a holomorphic section of an associated Kaehler fibration. Such objects support natural gauge theoretic equations coming from a moment map condition, and also admit a notion of stability based on Geometric Invariant Theory. The Hitchin--Kobayashi correspondence for principal pairs identifies stability as the condition for the existence of solutions to the equations. In this paper we generalize these features in a way which allows the full gauge group of the principal bundle to be replaced by certain proper subgroups. …
Our goal is to combine the techniques of Xiaokui Yang, Valentino Tosatti, and others to establish a Liouville-type result for almost complex manifolds. The transition to the non-integrable setting is delicate, so we will devote a section to discuss the key differences, and another to introduce the tools we will be using. Afterwards, we present a proof of our main theorem.
We study 4-dimensional Riemannian manifolds equipped with a minimal and conformal foliation $\mathcal F$ of codimension 2. We prove that the two adapted almost Hermitian structures $J_1$ and $J_2$ are both cosymplectic if and only if $\mathcal F$ is Riemannian and its horizontal distribution $\mathcal H$ is integrable.
We study the geodesic flow on the global holomorphic sections of the bundle $π:{TS}^2\to {S}^2$ induced by the neutral Kähler metric on the space of oriented lines of ${\Bbb{R}}^3$, which we identify with ${TS}^2$. This flow is shown to be completely integrable when the sections are symplectic and the behaviour of the geodesics is described.
Walczak formula is a very nice tool for understanding the geometry of a Riemannian manifold equipped with two orthogonal complementary distributions. Svensson [7] has shown that this formula simplifies to a Bochner type formula when we are dealing with Kähler manifolds and holomorphic (integrable) distributions. Here, with adapted notions as invariant distribution and (contact) holomorphicity, we derive the special form of the Walczack formula on a Sasaki manifold. Then we apply a standard Bochner argument in the study of (contact) holomorphic distributions. Some other applications for (pseudo…
Let $Ω$ be a complex manifold, and let $X\subset Ω$ be an open submanifold whose closure $\bar X$ is a (not necessarily compact) submanifold with smooth boundary. Let $G$ be a complex Lie group, $Π$ be a differentiable principal $G$-bundle on $Ω$ and $J$ a formally integrable bundle almost complex structure on the restriction $\bar P:= Π|_{\bar X}$. We prove that, if the boundary of $\bar X$ is strictly pseudoconvex, $J$ extends to a holomorphic structure on the restriction of $Π$ to a neighborhood of $\bar X$ in $Ω$. This answers positively and generalizes a problem stated in the article "Bou…
Let X be a compact connected Riemann surface equipped with an anti-holomorphic involution σ. Let G be a connected complex reductive affine algebraic group, and let σ_G be a real form of G. We consider holomorphic principal G-bundles on X satisfying compatibility conditions with respect to σand σ_G. We prove that the points defined over $\mathbb R$ of the smooth locus of a moduli space of principal G-bundles on X are precisely these objects, under the assumption that {\rm genus}(X) > 2. Stable, semistable and polystable bundles are defined in this context. Relationship between any of these prop…
Given a compact Kaehler manifold X, it is shown that pairs of the form (E, D), where E is a trivial holomorphic vector bundle on X, and D is an integrable holomorphic connection on $E$, produce a neutral Tannakian category. The corresponding pro-algebraic affine group scheme is studied. In particular, it is shown that this pro-algebraic affine group scheme for a compact Riemann surface determines uniquely the isomorphism class of the Riemann surface.
We construct 4-dimensional Riemannian Lie groups carrying left-invariant conformal foliations with minimal leaves of codimension 2. We show that these foliations are holomorphic with respect to an (integrable) Hermitian structure which is not K\" ahler. We then prove that the Riemannian Lie groups constructed are {\it not} Einstein manifolds. This answers an important open question in the theory of complex-valued harmonic morphisms from Riemannian 4-manifolds.
We study anti-holomorphic semi-invariant submersions from Kählerian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We prove that all distributions which are involved in the definition of the submersion are integrable. We also prove that the O'Neill's tensor $\mathcal{T}$ vanishes on the invariant vertical distribution. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for totally geodesicness and harmonicity of this type submersions. Moreover, we investigate the several curvatures of the total manifold and fibers and give a characterization theorem.
We obtain a unified theory of discrete minimal surfaces based on discrete holomorphic quadratic differentials via a Weierstrass representation. Our discrete holomorphic quadratic differential are invariant under Möbius transformations. They can be obtained from discrete harmonic functions in the sense of the cotangent Laplacian and Schramm's orthogonal circle patterns. We show that the corresponding discrete minimal surfaces unify the earlier notions of discrete minimal surfaces: circular minimal surfaces via the integrable systems approach and conical minimal surfaces via the curvature approa…
Holomorphic principal G-bundles over a complex manifold M can be studied using non-abelian cohomology groups H^1(M,G). On the other hand, if M=Σis a closed Riemann surface, there is a correspondence between holomorphic principal G-bundles over Σand coadjoint orbits in the dual of a central extension of the Lie algebra C^\infty(Σ, \g). We review these results and provide the details of an integrability condition for almost complex structures on smoothly trivial bundles. This article is a shortened version of the author's Diplom thesis.
We show that locally every beta-integrable (2,n)-Segre structure can be reduced to a torsion-free S^1*GL(n,R)-structure. This is done by observing that such reductions correspond to sections with holomorphic image of a certain `twistor bundle'. For the homogeneous (2,n)-Segre structure on the oriented 2-plane Grassmannian, the reductions are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with the smooth quadrics in CP^{n+1} without real points.
Given a holomorphic principal bundle $Q\, \longrightarrow\, X$, the universal space of holomorphic connections is a torsor $C_1(Q)$ for $\text{ad} Q \otimes T^*X$ such that the pullback of $Q$ to $C_1(Q)$ has a tautological holomorphic connection. When $X\,=\, G/P$, where $P$ is a parabolic subgroup of a complex simple group $G$, and $Q$ is the frame bundle of an ample line bundle, we show that $C_1(Q)$ may be identified with $G/L$, where $L\, \subset\, P$ is a Levi factor. We use this identification to construct the twistor space associated to a natural hyper-Kähler metric on $T^*(G/P)$, reco…
Starting from a so-called flat exact semisimple bihamiltonian structures of hydrodynamic type, we arrive at a Frobenius manifold structure and a tau structure for the associated principal hierarchy. We then classify the deformations of the principal hierarchy which possess tau structures.
We classify real hypersurfaces in complex space forms with constant principal curvatures and whose Hopf vector field has two nontrivial projections onto the principal curvature spaces. In complex projective spaces such real hypersurfaces do not exist. In complex hyperbolic spaces these are holomorphically congruent to open parts of tubes around the ruled minimal submanifolds with totally real normal bundle introduced by Berndt and Bruck. In particular, they are open parts of homogenous ones.
For compact complex manifolds with vanishing first Chern class that are compact torus principal bundles over Kähler manifolds, we prove that all holomorphic geometric structures on them, of affine type, are locally homogeneous. For a compact simply connected complex manifold in Fujiki class $\mathcal C$, whose dimension is strictly larger than the algebraic dimension, we prove that it does not admit any holomorphic rigid geometric structure, and also it does not admit any holomorphic Cartan geometry of algebraic type. We prove that compact complex simply connected manifolds in Fujiki class $\m…
It has been argued by Witten and others that in the presence of a nontrivial B-field, D-brane charges in type IIB string theories are measured by twisted K-theory. In joint work with Bouwknegt, Carey and Murray it was proved that twisted K-theory is canonically isomorphic to bundle gerbe K-theory, whose elements are ordinary vector bundles on a principal projective unitary bundle, with an action of the bundle gerbe determined by the principal projective unitary bundle. The principal projective unitary bundle is in turn determined by the twist. In this paper, we study in more detail the Chern-W…
Let $S$ be a complex reductive group acting holomorphically on a complex Lie group $N$ via holomorphic automorphisms. Let $K(S)\subset S$ be a maximal compact subgroup. The semidirect product $G := N\rtimes K(S)$ acts on $N$ via biholomorphisms. We give an explicit description of the isomorphism classes of $G$-equivariant almost holomorphic hermitian principal bundles on $N$. Under the assumption that there is a central subgroup $Z= \text{U}(1)$ of $K(S)$ that acts on $\text{Lie}(N)$ as multiplication through a single nontrivial character, we give an explicit description of the isomorphism cla…
In this continuation of \cite{BDS}, we investigate the deformations of holomorphic Cartan geometries where the underlying complex manifold is allowed to move. The space of infinitesimal deformations of a flat holomorphic Cartan geometry is computed. We show that the natural forgetful map, from the infinitesimal deformations of a flat holomorphic Cartan geometry to the infinitesimal deformations of the underlying flat principal bundle on the topological manifold, is an isomorphism.
Let $M$ be a compact complex manifold of dimension at least three and $Π: M\rightarrow X$ a positive principal elliptic fibration, where $X$ is a compact Kähler orbifold. Fix a preferred Hermitian metric on $M$. In \cite{V}, the third author proved that every stable vector bundle on $M$ is of the form $L\otimes Π^*B_0$, where $B_0$ is a stable vector bundle on $X$, and $L$ is a holomorphic line bundle on $M$. Here we prove that every stable Higgs bundle on $M$ is of the form $(L\otimes Π^*B_0,Π^*Φ_X)$, where $(B_0, Φ_X)$ is a stable Higgs bundle on $X$ and $L$ is a holomorphic line bundle on $…
We classify nonsingular holomorphic foliations of dimension and codimension one on certain Hopf manifolds. More general, we prove that all nonsingular codimension one distributions on intermediary or generic Hopf manifolds are integrable and has holomorphic integral first. Also, we prove some results about singular holomorphic distributions on Hopf manifolds.
We review some basic facts on vector fields, in the complex-analytic setting, thus, obtaining a rationality result and an extension of the Birkhoff-Grothendieck theorem, as follows: (1) Let $Z$ be a compact complex manifold endowed with a very ample line bundle $L$. Denote by $\mathfrak{g}_L$ the extended Lie algebra of infinitesimal automorphisms of $L$. If the representation of $\mathfrak{g}_L$ on the space of holomorphic sections of $L$ is irreducible then $Z$ is rational; (2) Let $P$ be a holomorphic principal bundle over the Riemann sphere, with structural group $G$ whose Lie algebra is n…
We show that if a holomorphic $n$ dimensional compact torus action on a compact connected complex manifold of complex dimension $n$ has a fixed point then the manifold is equivariantly biholomorphic to a smooth toric variety.
Let $X$ be a compact Kähler manifold. We extend the notion of Quillen metric to the set of integrable line bundles on $X$. In particular, we prove that the notion of holomorphic analytic torsion extends to integrable line bundles $\bar{L}$, such that $H^q(X,L)=0$ for $q\geq 1$.
We study anti-holomorphic involutions of the moduli space of principal $G$-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface $X$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group. These involutions are defined by fixing anti-holomorphic involutions on both $X$ and $G$. We analyze the fixed point locus in the moduli space and their relation with representations of the orbifold fundamental group of $X$ equipped with the anti-holomorphic involution. We also study the relation with branes. This generalizes work by Biswas--Garc\'ıa-Prada--Hurtubise and Baraglia--Schaposnik.
Let $E_G$ be a stable principal $G$--bundle over a compact connected Kaehler manifold, where $G$ is a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over the complex numbers. Let $H\subset G$ be a complex reductive subgroup which is not necessarily connected, and let $E_H\subset E_G$ be a holomorphic reduction of structure group. We prove that $E_H$ is preserved by the Einstein-Hermitian connection on $E_G$. Using this we show that if $E_H$ is a minimal reductive reduction in the sense that there is no complex reductive proper subgroup of $H$ to which $E_H$ admits a holomorphic reduction o…
We prove that holomorphic normal projective connections on compact complex surfaces are flat. We show that a holomorphic torsion-free affine connection $\nabla$ on a compact complex surface is locally modelled on a translations-invariant affine connection on $\C^2$, except if $\nabla$ is a generic connection on a principal elliptic bundle over a Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 2$, with odd first Betti number. In the last case, the local Killing Lie algebra is of dimension one, generated by the fundamental vector field of the principal fibration.
Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of a connected simply connected complex semisimple Lie group $G$. Given a compact Kähler manifold $X$, the dimensional reduction of $G$-equivariant holomorphic vector bundles over $X\times G/P$ was carried out by the first and third authors. This raises the question of dimensional reduction of holomorphic principal bundles over $X\times G/P$. The method used for equivariant vector bundles does not generalize to principal bundles. In this paper, we adapt to equivariant principal bundles the Tannakian approach of Nori, to describe the dimensional reduction of $G$-…
We prove that for any tau-symmetric bihamiltonian deformation of the tau-cover of the Principal Hierarchy associated with a semisimple Frobenius manifold, the deformed tau-cover admits an infinite set of Virasoro symmetries.
The $\bar{\partial}_{_{J}}$ operator over an almost complex manifold induces canonical connections of type $(0,1)$ over the bundles of $(p,0)$-forms. If the almost complex structure is integrable then the previous connections induce the canonical holomorphic structures of the bundles of $(p,0)$-forms. For $p=1$ we can extend the corresponding connection to all Schur powers of the bundle of $(1,0)$-forms. Moreover using the canonical $\C$-linear isomorphism betwen the bundle of $(1,0)$-forms and the complex cotangent bundle $T^*_{X,J}$ we deduce canonical connections of type $(0,1)$ over the Sc…
Let $M$ be a compact connected complex manifold and $G$ a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group. Let $E_G$ be a holomorphic principal $G$--bundle over $M$ and $T\, \subset\, G$ a torus containing the connected component of the center of $G$. Let $N$ (respectively, $C$) be the normalizer (respectively, centralizer) of $T$ in $G$, and let $W$ be the Weyl group $N/C$ for $T$. We prove that there is a natural bijective correspondence between the following two: Torus subbundles $\mathbb T$ of ${\rm Ad}(E_G)$ such that for some (hence every) $x\, \in\, M$, the fiber ${\mathbb T}_x$ lies…
In this paper, metric reduction in generalized geometry is investigated. We show how the Bismut connections on the quotient manifold are obtained from those on the original manifold. The result facilitates the analysis of generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler reduction, which motivates the concept of metric generalized principal bundles and our approach to construct a family of generalized holomorphic line bundles over $\mathbb{C}P^2$ equipped with some non-trivial generalized K$\ddot{a}$hler structures.
We show that a pseudo-holomorphic embedding of an almost-complex $2n$-manifold into almost-complex $(2n + 2)$-Euclidean space exists if and only if there is a CR regular embedding of the $2n$-manifold into complex $(n + 1)$-space. We remark that the fundamental group does not place any restriction on the existence of either kind of embedding when $n$ is at least three. We give necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of characteristic classes for a closed almost-complex 6-manifold to admit a pseudo-holomorphic embedding into $\R^8$ equipped with an almost-complex structure that need not be…
We study holomorphic integrable systems on the hyperkähler manifold $G\times S_{\text{reg}}$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group and $S_{\text{reg}}$ is the Slodowy slice determined by a regular $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C})$-triple. Our main result is that this manifold carries a canonical \textit{abstract integrable system}, a foliation-theoretic notion recently introduced by Fernandes, Laurent-Gengoux, and Vanhaecke. We also construct traditional integrable systems on $G\times S_{\text{reg}}$, some of which are completely integrable and fundamentally based on Mishchenko and Fomenko'…
