Spectral boundary conditions for Laplace-type operators, of interest in string and brane theory, are partly Dirichlet, partly Neumann-type conditions, partitioned by a pseudodifferential projection. We give sufficient conditions for existence of associated heat trace expansions with power and power-log terms. The first log coefficient is a noncommutative residue, vanishing when the smearing function is 1. For Dirac operators with general well-posed spectral boundary conditions, it follows that the zeta function is regular at 0. In the selfadjoint case, the eta function has a simple pole at zero, and the value of zeta as well as the residue of eta at zero are stable under perturbations of the boundary projection of order at most minus the dimension.
We apply the Fountain theorem to a class of nonlinear Dirac-Laplace equation on compact spin manifold. We show the standard Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition can be replaced by a more natural super-quadratic condition that is enough to obtain the Cerami condition under certain conditions. Multiple solutions of nonlinear Dirac-Laplace equation are obtained in this note.
We develop basic properties of solutions to the Dirac-Hodge and Laplace equations in upper half space endowed with the hyperbolic metric. Solutions to the Dirac-Hodge equation are called hypermonogenic functions while solutions to this version of Laplace's equation are called hyperbolic harmonic functions. We introduce a Borel-Pompeiu formula and a Green's formula for hyperbolic harmonic functions. Using a Cauchy Integral formula we are able to introduce Hardy spaces of solutions to the Dirac-Hodge equation. We also provide new arguments describing the conformal covariance of hypermonogenic fu…
We find fundamental solutions to p-Laplace equations with drift terms in the Heisenberg group and Grushin-type planes. These solutions are natural generalizations to the fundamental solutions discovered by Beals, Gaveau, and Greiner for the Laplace equation with drift term. Our results are independent of the results of Bieske and Childers, in that Bieske and Childers consider a generalization that focuses on a p-Laplace-type equation while we primarily concentrate on a generalization of the drift term.
Beals, Gaveau, and Greiner in 1996 establish a formula for the fundamental solution to the Laplace equation with drift term in Grushin-type planes. The first author and Childers in 2013 expanded these results by invoking a p-Laplace-type generalization that encompasses these formulas while the authors explored a different natural generalization of the p-Laplace equation with drift term that also encompasses these formulas. In both, the drift term lies in the complex domain. We extend these results by considering a drift term in the quaternion realm and show our solutions are stable under limit…
Beals, Gaveau and Greiner (1996) find the fundamental solution to a 2-Laplace-type equation in a class of sub-Riemannian spaces. This solution is related to the well-known fundamental solution to the p-Laplace equation in Grushin-type spaces (Bieske-Gong, 2006) and the Heisenberg group (Capogna, Danielli, Garofalo, 1997). We extend the 2-Laplace-type equation to a p-Laplace-type equation. We show that the obvious generalization does not have desired properties, but rather, our generalization preserves some natural properties.
We prove Berezin--Li--Yau-type lower bounds with additional term for the eigenvalues of the Stokes operator and improve the previously known estimates for the Laplace operator. Generalizations to higher-order operators are given.
We propose a generalization of Laplace transformations to the case of linear partial differential operators (LPDOs) of arbitrary order in R^n. Practically all previously proposed differential transformations of LPDOs are particular cases of this transformation (intertwining Laplace transformation, ILT). We give a complete algorithm of construction of ILT and describe the classes of operators in R^n suitable for this transformation. Keywords: Integration of linear partial differential equations, Laplace transformation, differential transformation
We construct invariant differential operators acting on sections of vector bundles of densities over a smooth manifold without using a Riemannian metric. The spectral invariants of such operators are invariant under both the diffeomorphisms and the gauge transformations and can be used to induce a new theory of gravitation. It can be viewed as a matrix generalization of Einstein general relativity that reproduces the standard Einstein theory in the weak deformation limit. Relations with various mathematical constructions such as Finsler geometry and Hodge-de Rham theory are discussed.
In this paper we consider the time dependent one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with multiple Dirac delta potentials {of different strengths}. We prove that the classical dispersion property holds under some restrictions on the strengths and on the lengths of the finite intervals. The result is obtained in a more general setting of a Laplace operator on a tree with $δ$-coupling conditions at the vertices. The proof relies on a careful analysis of the properties of the resolvent of the associated Hamiltonian. With respect to the analysis done in \cite{MR2858075} for Kirchhoff conditions, here…
This paper establishes existence of solutions for a partial differential equation in which a differential operator involving variable exponent growth conditions is present. This operator represents a generalization of the $p(\cdot)$-Laplace operator, i.e. $Δ_{p(\cdot)}u={\rm div}(|\nabla u|^{p(\cdot)-2}\nabla u)$, where $p(\cdot)$ is a continuous function. The proof of the main result is based on Schauder's fixed point theorem combined with adequate variational arguments. The function space setting used here makes appeal to the variable exponent Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces.
In this paper we prove discreteness of the spectrum of the Neu\-mann-Lap\-la\-ci\-an (the free membrane problem) in a large class of non-convex space domains. The lower estimates of the first non-trivial eigenvalue are obtained in terms of geometric characteristics of Sobolev mappings. The suggested approach is based on Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities that are obtained with the help of the composition operators theory for uniform Sobolev spaces. These composition operators are induced by a generalizations of conformal mappings that are mappings of bounded $2$-dilatation ($2$-quasiconformal mappi…
Let $ \mathbb{R}^{n} $ denote Euclidean $ n $ space and given $k$ a positive integer let $ Λ_k \subset \mathbb{R}^{n} $, $ 1 \leq k < n - 1, n \geq 3, $ be a $k$-dimensional plane with $ 0 \in Λ_k.$ If $n-k < p <\infty$, we first study the Martin boundary problem for solutions to the $p$-Laplace equation (called $p$-harmonic functions) in $ \mathbb{R}^{n} \setminus Λ_k $ relative to $ \{0\}. $ We then use the results from our study to extend the work of Wolff on the failure of Fatou type theorems for $p$-harmonic functions in $ \mathbb{R}^{2}_+ $ to $p$-harmonic functions in $ \mathbb{R}^{n} \…
The aim of the present paper is to introduce a first order approach to the abstract concept of boundary triples for Laplace operators. Our main application is the Laplace operator on a manifold with boundary; a case in which the ordinary concept of boundary triples does not apply directly. In our first order approach, we show that we can use the usual boundary operators also in the abstract Green's formula. Another motivation for the first order approach is to give an intrinsic definition of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map and intrinsic norms on the corresponding boundary spaces. We also show how…
In the present paper, we solve three boundary value problems related to the temperature field in oil strata -- the fractional extensions of the incomplete lumped formulation and lumped formulation in the linear case and the fractional generalization of the incomplete lumped formulation in the radial case. By using the Caputo differintegral operator and the Laplace transform, the solutions are obtained in integral forms where the integrand is expressed in terms of the convolution of some auxiliary functions of Wright function type. A generalization of the Laplace transform convolution theorem, …
On a compact Kähler manifold there is a canonical action of a Lie-superalgebra on the space of differential forms. It is generated by the differentials, the Lefschetz operator and the adjoints of these operators. We determine the asymptotic distribution of irreducible representations of this Lie-superalgebra on the eigenspaces of the Laplace-Beltrami operator. Because of the high degree of symmetry the Laplace-Beltrami operator on forms can not be quantum ergodic. We show that after taking these symmetries into account quantum ergodicity holds for the Laplace-Beltrami operator and for the Spin…
In this paper, we study the existence of multiple solutions to a generalized $p(\cdot)$-Laplace equation with two parameters involving critical growth. More precisely, we give sufficient "local" conditions, which mean that growths between the main operator and nonlinear term are locally assumed for the cases $p(\cdot)$-sublinear, $p(\cdot)$-superlinear, and sandwich-type. Compared to constant exponent problems (for examples, $p$-Laplacian and $(p,q)$-Laplacian), this characterizes the study of variable exponent problems. We show this by applying variants of the Mountain Pass Theorem for $p(\cd…
We study the convergence of the graph Laplacian of a random geometric graph generated by an i.i.d. sample from a $m$-dimensional submanifold $M$ in $R^d$ as the sample size $n$ increases and the neighborhood size $h$ tends to zero. We show that eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the graph Laplacian converge with a rate of $O\Big(\big(\frac{\log n}{n}\big)^\frac{1}{2m}\Big)$ to the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the weighted Laplace-Beltrami operator of $M$. No information on the submanifold $M$ is needed in the construction of the graph or the "out-of-sample extension" of the eigenvectors. Of …
Given a compact Riemannian manifold $(M, g)$ without boundary, we estimate the Lebesgue norm of Laplace-Beltrami eigenfunctions when restricted to a wide variety of subsets $Γ$ of $M$. The sets $Γ$ that we consider are Borel measurable, Lebesgue-null but otherwise arbitrary with positive Hausdorff dimension. Our estimates are based on Frostman-type ball growth conditions for measures supported on $Γ$. For large Lebesgue exponents $p$, these estimates provide a natural generalization of $L^p$ bounds for eigenfunctions restricted to submanifolds, previously obtained in \cite{Ho68, Ho71, Sog88, B…
We obtain a generalization of the Picone inequality which, in combination with the classical Picone inequality, appears to be useful for problems with the $(p,q)$-Laplace type operators. With its help, as well as with the help of several other known generalized Picone inequalities, we provide some nontrivial facts on the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions to the zero Dirichlet problem for the equation $-Δ_p u -Δ_q u = f_μ(x,u,\nabla u)$ in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ under certain assumptions on the nonlinearity and with a special attention to the resonance case $f_μ…
