We consider noncommutative line bundles associated with the Hopf fibrations of SUq(2) over all Podles spheres and with a locally trivial Hopf fibration of S^3_{pq}. These bundles are given as finitely generated projective modules associated via 1-dimensional representations of U(1) with Galois-type extensions encoding the principal fibrations of SUq(2) and S^3_{pq}. We show that the Chern numbers of these modules coincide with the winding numbers of representations defining them.
A fibre product construction is used to give a description of quantum line bundles over the generic Podles spheres by gluing two quantum discs along their boundaries. Representatives of the corresponding $K_0$-classes are given in terms of 1-dimensional projections belonging to the C*-algebra, and in terms of analogues of the classical Bott projections. The $K_0$-classes of quantum line bundles derived from the generic Hopf fibration of quantum SU(2) are determined and the index pairing is computed. It is argued that taking the projections obtained from the fibre product construction yields a …
This paper describes the Leray spectral sequence associated to a differential fibration. The differential fibration is described by base and total differential graded algebras. The cohomology used is noncommutative differential sheaf cohomology. For this purpose, a sheaf over an algebra is a left module with zero curvature covariant derivative. As a special case, we can recover the Serre spectral sequence for a noncommutative fibration.
In this paper we present solutions to the non-commutative geometrical version of the Yang-Mills-Scalar-Matter theory in the Hopf fibration using the $3D$--calculus.
We define a new algebra of noncommutative differential forms for any Hopf algebra with an invertible antipode. We prove that there is a one to one correspondence between anti-Yetter-Drinfeld modules, which serve as coefficients for the Hopf cyclic (co)homology, and modules which admit a flat connection with respect to our differential calculus. Thus we show that these coefficient modules can be regarded as ``flat bundles'' in the sense of Connes' noncommutative differential geometry.
For differential calculi on noncommutative algebras, we construct a twisted de Rham cohomology using flat connections on modules. This has properties similar, in some respects, to sheaf cohomology on topological spaces. We also discuss generalised mapping properties of these theories, and relations of these properties to corings. Using this, we give conditions for the Serre spectral sequence to hold for a noncommutative fibration. This might be better read as giving the definition of a fibration in noncommutative differential geometry. We also study the multiplicative structure of such spectra…
The paper presents applications of Toeplitz algebras in Noncommutative Geometry. As an example, a quantum Hopf fibration is given by gluing trivial U(1) bundles over quantum discs (or, synonymously, Toeplitz algebras) along their boundaries. The construction yields associated quantum line bundles over the generic Podles spheres which are isomorphic to those from the well-known Hopf fibration of quantum SU(2). The relation between these two versions of quantum Hopf fibrations is made precise by giving an isomorphism in the category of right U(1)-comodules and left modules over the C*-algebra of…
We introduce in this paper the notion of noncommutative Serre fibration (shortly, NCSF) and show that up to homotopy, every NCCW complex morphism is some noncommutative Serre fibration. We then deduce a six-term exact sequence for the periodic cyclic homology and for K-theory of an arbitrary noncommutative Serre fibration. We also show how to use this technique to compute K-theory and cyclic theory of some noncommutative quotients.
Noncommutative geometry of quantised contact spheres introduced by Omori, Maeda, Miyazaki and Yoshioka is studied. In particular it is proven that these spheres form a noncommutative Hopf fibration in the sense of Hopf-Galois extensions. The monopole (strong) connection is constructed, and projectors describing projective modules of all monopole charges are computed.
We present examples of noncommutative four-spheres that are base spaces of $SU(2)$-principal bundles with noncommutative seven-spheres as total spaces. The noncommutative coordinate algebras of the four-spheres are generated by the entries of a projection which is invariant under the action of $SU(2)$. We give conditions for the components of the Connes--Chern character of the projection to vanish but the second (the top) one. The latter is then a non zero Hochschild cycle that plays the role of the volume form for the noncommutative four-spheres.
The irreducible *-representations of the polynomial algebra O(S^3_{pq}) of the quantum 3-sphere introduced by Calow and Matthes are classified. The K-groups of its universal C*-algebra are shown to coincide with their classical counterparts. The U(1)-action on O(S^3_{pq}) corresponding for p=1=q to the classical Hopf fibration is proven to be Galois (free). The thus obtained locally trivial Hopf-Galois extension is shown to be relatively projective (admitting a strong connection) and non-cleft. The latter is proven by determining an appropriate Chern-Connes pairing.
We construct noncommutative principal fibrations S_θ^7 \to S_θ^4 which are deformations of the classical SU(2) Hopf fibration over the four sphere. We realize the noncommutative vector bundles associated to the irreducible representations of SU(2) as modules of coequivariant maps and construct corresponding projections. The index of Dirac operators with coefficients in the associated bundles is computed with the Connes-Moscovici local index formula. The algebra inclusion $A(S_θ^4) \into A(S_θ^7)$ is an example of a not trivial quantum principal bundle.
The $θ$-deformed Hopf fibration $\mathbb{S}^3_θ\to \mathbb{S}^2$ over the commutative $2$-sphere is compared with its classical counterpart. It is shown that there exists a natural isomorphism between the corresponding associated module functors and that the affine spaces of classical and deformed connections are isomorphic. The latter isomorphism is equivariant under an appropriate notion of infinitesimal gauge transformations in these contexts. Gauge transformations and connections on associated modules are studied and are shown to be sensitive to the deformation parameter. A homotopy theore…
We prove in this paper a noncommutative version of Leray Spectral Sequence Theorem and then Leray-Serre Spectral Theorem for noncommutative Serre fibrations: for NC Serre fibration there are converging spectral sequences with $\E^2$ terms as $\E^2_{p,q} = \HP_p(A; \HP_q(B,A)) \Longrightarrow \HP_{p+q}(B)$ and $\E^2_{p,q} = \HP_p(A;\K_q(B,A)) \Longrightarrow \K_{p+q}(B)$.
We present two classes of examples of Hopf algebroids associated with noncommutative principal bundles. The first comes from deforming the principal bundle while leaving unchanged the structure Hopf algebra. The second is related to deforming a quantum homogeneous space; this needs a careful deformation of the structure Hopf algebra in order to preserve the compatibilities between the Hopf algebra operations.
We construct the vector space dual to the space of right-invariant differential forms construct from a first order differential calculus on inhomogeneous quantum group. We show that this vector space is equipped with a structure of a Hopf algebra which closes on a noncommutative Lie algebra satisfying a Jacobi identity.
Motivated by the form of the noncommutative *-product in a system of open strings and Dp-branes with constant nonzero Neveu-Schwarz 2-form, we define a deformed multiplication operation on a quasitriangular Hopf algebra in terms of its R-matrix, and comment on some of its properties. We show that the noncommutative string theory *-product is a particular example of this multiplication, and comment on other possible Hopf algebraic properties which may underlie the theory.
We explore the relation between the Hopf algebra associated to the renormalization of QFT and the Hopf algebra associated to the NCG computations of transverse index theory for foliations.
We give an introductory survey to the use of Hopf algebras in several problems of noncommutative geometry. The main example, the Hopf algebra of rooted trees, is a graded, connected Hopf algebra arising from a universal construction. We show its relation to the algebra of transverse differential operators introduced by Connes and Moscovici in order to compute a local index formula in cyclic cohomology, and to the several Hopf algebras defined by Connes and Kreimer to simplify the combinatorics of perturbative renormalization. We explain how characteristic classes for a Hopf module algebra can …
The representations of some Hopf algebras have curious behavior: Nonprojective modules may have projective tensor powers, and the variety of a tensor product of modules may not be contained in the intersection of their varieties. We explain a family of examples of such Hopf algebras and their modules, and classify left, right, and two-sided ideals in their stable module categories.
In this paper, we construct explicitly a noncommutative symmetric (${\mathcal N}$CS) system over the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebra of labeled rooted trees. By the universal property of the ${\mathcal N}$CS system formed by the generating functions of certain noncommutative symmetric functions, we obtain a specialization of noncommutative symmetric functions by labeled rooted trees. Taking the graded duals, we also get a graded Hopf algebra homomorphism from the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra of labeled rooted forests to the Hopf algebra of quasi-symmetric functions. A connection of the coefficient…
We describe Laplacian operators on the quantum group SUq (2) equipped with the four dimensional bicovariant differential calculus of Woronowicz as well as on the quantum homogeneous space S2q with the restricted left covariant three dimensional differential calculus. This is done by giving a family of Hodge dualities on both the exterior algebras of SUq (2) and S2q . We also study gauged Laplacian operators acting on sections of line bundles over the quantum sphere.
We construct new examples of left bialgebroids and Hopf algebroids, arising from noncommutative geometry. Given a first order differential calculus $Ω$ on an algebra $A$, with the space of left vector fields $\mathfrak{X}$, we construct a left $A$-bialgeroid $B\mathfrak{X}$, whose category of left modules is isomorphic to the category of left bimodule connections over the calculus. When $Ω$ is a pivotal bimodule, we construct a Hopf algebroid $H\mathfrak{X}$ over $A$, by restricting to a subcategory of bimodule connections which intertwine with both $Ω$ and $\mathfrak{X}$ in a compatible manne…
We study a quantum version of the SU(2) Hopf fibration $S^7 \to S^4$ and its associated twistor geometry. Our quantum sphere $S^7_q$ arises as the unit sphere inside a q-deformed quaternion space $\mathbb{H}^2_q$. The resulting four-sphere $S^4_q$ is a quantum analogue of the quaternionic projective space $\mathbb{HP}^1$. The quantum fibration is endowed with compatible non-universal differential calculi. By investigating the quantum symmetries of the fibration, we obtain the geometry of the corresponding twistor space $\mathbb{CP}^3_q$ and use it to study a system of anti-self-duality equatio…
We define a noncommutative algebra of four basic objects within a differential calculus on quantum groups: functions, 1-forms, Lie derivatives and inner derivations, as the cross-product algebra associated with Woronowicz's (differential) algebra of functions and forms. This definition properly takes into account the Hopf algebra structure of the Woronowicz calculus. It also provides a direct proof of the Cartan identity.
We derive the Kac-Paljutkin finite-dimensional Hopf algebras as finite fibrations of the quantum double torus and generalize the construction for quantum multiple tori.
Let NSymm be the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions over the integers. In this paper a description is given of its Lie algebra of primitives over the integers, Prim(NSymm), in terms of recursion formulas. For each of the primitives of a basis of Prim(NSymm), indexed by Lyndon words, there is a recursively given divided power series over it. This gives another proof of the theorem that the algebra of quasi-symmetric functions is free over the integers.
In this paper, our objects of interest are Hopf Galois extensions (e.g., Hopf algebras, Galois field extensions, strongly graded algebras, crossed products, principal bundles, etc.) and families of noncommutative rings (e.g., skew polynomial rings, PBW extensions and skew PBW extensions, etc.). We collect and systematize questions, problems, properties and recent advances in both theories by explicitly developing examples and doing calculations that are usually omitted in the literature. In particular, for Hopf Galois extensions we consider approaches from the point of view of quantum torsors …
The Noncommutative Index Theorem is used to prove that the Chern character of quantum Hopf line bundles over the standard Podles quantum sphere equals the winding number of the representations defining these bundles. This result gives an estimate of the positive cone of the algebraic $K_0$ of the standard quantum sphere.
This paper is concerned with two generalizations of the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions that have more or less recently appeared. The Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions and its dual, the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions. The focus is on the incredibly rich structure of the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions and the question of which structures and properties have good analogues for the noncommutative symmetric functions and/or the quasisymmetric functions. This paper attempt to survey the ongoing investigations in this topic as dictated by the knowledge and interes…
We consider finite-dimensional Hopf algebras $u$ which admit a smooth deformation $U\to u$ by a Noetherian Hopf algebra $U$ of finite global dimension. Examples of such Hopf algebras include small quantum groups over the complex numbers, restricted enveloping algebras in finite characteristic, and Drinfeld doubles of height $1$ group schemes. We provide a means of analyzing (cohomological) support for representations over such $u$, via the singularity categories of the hypersurfaces $U/(f)$ associated to functions $f$ on the corresponding parametrization space. We use this hypersurface approac…
We study the renormalization of massless QED from the point of view of the Hopf algebra discovered by D. Kreimer. For QED, we describe a Hopf algebra of renormalization which is neither commutative nor cocommutative. We obtain explicit renormalization formulas for the electron and photon propagators, for the vacuum polarization and the electron self-energy, which are equivalent to Zimmermann's forest formula for the sum of all Feynman diagrams at a given order of interaction. Then we extend to QED the Connes-Kreimer map defined by the coupling constant of the theory (i.e. the homomorphism betw…
We generalize the notion, introduced by Henri Cartan, of an operation of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ in a graded differential algebra $Ω$. We define the notion of an operation of a Hopf algebra $\mathcal H$ in a graded differential algebra $Ω$ which is refered to as a $\mathcal H$-operation. We then generalize for such an operation the notion of algebraic connection. Finally we discuss the corresponding noncommutative version of the Weil algebra: The Weil algebra $W(\mathcal H)$ of the Hopf algebra $\mathcal H$ is the universal initial object of the category of $\mathcal H$-operations with con…
We explore the differential geometry of finite sets where the differential structure is given by a quiver rather than as more usual by a graph. In the finite group case we show that the data for such a differential calculus is described by certain Hopf quiver data as familiar in the context of path algebras. We explore a duality between geometry on the function algebra vs geometry on the group algebra, i.e. on the dual Hopf algebra, illustrated by the noncommutative Riemannian geometry of the group algebra of $S_3$. We show how quiver geometries arise naturally in the context of quantum princi…
In the last decennia two generalizations of the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions have appeared and shown themselves important, the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions NSymm and the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions QSymm. It has also become clear that it is important to understand the noncommutative versions of such important structures as Symm the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions. Not least because the right noncommmutative versions are often more beautiful than the commutaive ones (not all cluttered up with counting coefficients). NSymm and QSymm are not truly the…
For a noncommutative configuration space whose coordinate algebra is the universal enveloping algebra of a finite dimensional Lie algebra, it is known how to introduce an extension playing the role of the corresponding noncommutative phase space, namely by adding the commuting deformed derivatives in a consistent and nontrivial way, therefore obtaining certain deformed Heisenberg algebra. This algebra has been studied in physical contexts, mainly in the case of the kappa-Minkowski space-time. Here we equip the entire phase space algebra with a coproduct, so that it becomes an instance of a com…
We study a noncommutative deformation of the commutative Hopf algebra of rooted trees which was shown by Connes and Kreimer to be related to the mathematical structure of renormalization in quantum field theories. The requirement of the existence of an antipode for the noncommutative deformation leads to a natural extension of the algebra. Noncommutative deformations of the Connes-Kreimer algebra might be relevant for renormalization of field theories on noncommutative spaces and there are indications that in this case the extension of the algebra might be linked to a mixing of infrared and ul…
From the bicovariant first order differential calculus on inhomogeneous Hopf algebra ${\cal B}$ we construct the set of right-invariant Maurer-Cartan one-forms considered as a right-invariant basis of a bicovariant ${\cal B}$-bimodule over which we develop the Woronowicz's general theory of differential calculus on quantum groups. In this formalism, we introduce suitable functionals on ${\cal B}$ which control the inhomogeneous commutation rules. In particular we find that the homogeneous part of commutation rules between the translations and those between the generators of the homogeneous par…
We study Galois extensions Coinv(M)<M for M an H-comodule algebra and H a Frobenius Hopf algebroid. We obtain generalizations of various theorems in Hopf-Galois theory by Kreimer-Takeuchi, Doi-Takeuchi and Cohen-Fischman-Montgomery. An algebra extension is Galois precisely if it is balanced, depth 2, and Frobenius. Then we show that Yetter-Drinfeld categories over H are always braided and their braided commutative algebras play the role of noncommutative scalar extensions by the Brzezinski-Militaru Theorem. Contravariant "fiber functors" are used to prove an analogue of Ulbrich's Theorem and t…
Let $\CRF_S$ denote the category of $S$-colored rooted forests, and $\H_{\CRF_S}$ denote its Ringel-Hall algebra as introduced in \cite{KS}. We construct a homomorphism from a $K^+_0 (\CRF_S)$--graded version of the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions to $\H_{\CRF_S}$. Dualizing, we obtain a homomorphism from the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra to a $K^+_0 (\CRF_S)$--graded version of the algebra of quasisymmetric functions. This homomorphism is a refinement of one considered by W. Zhao in \cite{Z}.
We give a definition of a noncommutative torsor by a subset of the axioms previously given by Grunspan. We show that noncommutative torsors are an equivalent description of Hopf-Galois objects (without specifying the Hopf algebra). In particular, this shows that the endomorphism of a torsor featuring in Grunspan's definition is redundant.
We define motivic iterated integrals on the affine line, and give a simple proof of the formula for the coproduct in the Hopf algebra of they make. We show that it encodes the group law in the automorphism group of certain non-commutative variety. We relate the coproduct with the coproduct in the Hopf algebra of decorated rooted planar trivalent trees - a planar decorated version of the Hopf algebra defined by Connes and Kreimer. As an application we derive explicit formulas for the coproduct in the motivic multiple polylogarithm Hopf algebra. We give a criteria for a motivic iterated integral…
We study noncommutative principal bundles (Hopf-Galois extensions) in the context of coquasitriangular Hopf algebras and their monoidal category of comodule algebras. When the total space is quasi-commutative, and thus the base space subalgebra is central, we define the gauge group as the group of vertical automorphisms or equivalently as the group of equivariant algebra maps. We study Drinfeld twist (2-cocycle) deformations of Hopf-Galois extensions and show that the gauge group of the twisted extension is isomorphic to the gauge group of the initial extension. In particular, noncommutative p…
In this paper we show that in the case of noncommutative two-tori one gets in a natural way simple structures which have analogous formal properties as Hopf algebra structures but with a deformed multiplication on the tensor product.
Families of Perelomov coherent states are defined axiomatically in the context of unitary representations of Hopf algebras possessing a Haar integral. A global geometric picture involving locally trivial noncommutative fibre bundles is involved in the construction. A noncommutative resolution of identity formula is proved in that setup. Examples come from quantum groups.
Given a Hopf algebra H, we study modules and bimodules over an algebra A that carry an H-action, as well as their morphisms and connections. Bimodules naturally arise when considering noncommutative analogues of tensor bundles. For quasitriangular Hopf algebras and bimodules with an extra quasi-commutativity property we induce connections on the tensor product over A of two bimodules from connections on the individual bimodules. This construction applies to arbitrary connections, i.e. not necessarily H-equivariant ones, and further extends to the tensor algebra generated by a bimodule and its …
We describe a locally trivial quantum principal U(1)-bundle over the quantum space S^2_{pq} which is a noncommutative analogue of the usual Hopf bundle. We also provide results concerning the structure of its total space algebra (irreducible *-representations and topological K-groups) and its Galois aspects (Galois property, existence of a strong connection, non-cleftness).
Like its precursor this paper is concerned with the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions and its graded dual, the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions. It complements and extends the previous paper but is also selfcontained. Here we concentrate on explicit descriptions (constructions) of a basis of the Lie algebra of primitives of NSymm and an explicit free polynomial basis of QSymm. As before everything is done over the integers. As applications the matter of the existence of suitable analogues of Frobenius and Verschiebung morphisms is discussed.
We introduce Hopf algebroid covariance on Woronowicz's differential calculus. Using it, we develop quite a general framework of noncommutative complex geometry that subsumes the one in [2]. We present transverse complex and Kähler structures as examples and discuss several other examples. Relation with past literature is described.
We study the Hopf equation which is equivalent to the pentagonal equation, from operator algebras. A FRT type theorem is given and new types of quantum groups are constructed. The key role is played now by the classical Hopf modules category. As an application, a five dimensional noncommutative noncocommutative bialgebra is given.
The leitmotiv of this review is noncommutative principal U(1)-bundles and associated line bundles. In the first part I give a brief introduction to Hopf-Galois theory and its applications, from field extensions to principal group actions. I then recall Woronowicz' definition of compact quantum group and the notion of noncommutative principal bundle. When the structure group is U(1), there is a construction due to Pimsner that allows to get the total space of a "bundle" (more precisely, a strongly graded C*-algebra) from the base space and a noncommutative "line bundle" (a self-Morita equivalen…
We discuss the construction of finite noncommutative geometries on Hopf algebras and finite groups in the `quantum groups approach'. We apply the author's previous classification theorem, implying that calculi in the factorisable case correspond to blocks in the dual, to classify differential calculi on the quantum codouble $D^*(G)=kG\lcocross k(G)$ of a finite group $G$. We give $D^*(S_3)$ as an example including its exterior algebra and lower cohomology. We also study the calculus on $D^*(\CA)$ induced from one on a general Hopf algebra $\CA$ in general and specialise to $D^*(G)=U(\cg)\lcocr…
We construct the join of noncommutative Galois objects (quantum torsors) over a Hopf algebra H. To ensure that the join algebra enjoys the natural (diagonal) coaction of H, we braid the tensor product of the Galois objects. Then we show that this coaction is principal. Our examples are built from the noncommutative torus with the natural free action of the classical torus, and arbitrary anti-Drinfeld doubles of finite-dimensional Hopf algebras. The former yields a noncommutative deformation of a non-trivial torus bundle, and the latter a finite quantum covering.
In other to study connections and gauge theories on noncommutative spaces it is useful to use the local trivializations of principal bundles. In this note we show how to use noncommutative localization theory to describe a simple version of cocycle data for the bundles on noncommutative schemes with Hopf algebras in the role of the structure group which locally look like Hopf algebraic smash products. We also show how to use these Čech cocycles for associated vector bundles. We sketch briefly some examples related to quantum groups.
We define algebraic families of (all) morphisms which are purely algebraic analogs of quantum families of (all) maps introduced by P.M. Soltan. Also, algebraic families of (all) isomorphisms are introduced. By using these notions we construct two classes of Hopf-algebras which may be interpreted as the quantum group of all maps from a finite space to a quantum group, and the quantum group of all automorphisms of a finite NC space. As special cases three classes of NC objects are introduced: quantum group of gauge transformations, Pontryagin dual of a quantum group, and Galois-Hopf-algebra of a…
We discuss a possible noncommutative generalization of the notion of an equivariant vector bundle. Let $A$ be a $\mathbb{K}$-algebra, $M$ a left $A$-module, $H$ a Hopf $\mathbb{K}$-algebra, $δ:A\to H\otimes A:=H\otimes_{\mathbb{K}} A$ an algebra coaction, and let $(H\otimes A)_δ$ denote $H\otimes A$ with the right $A$-module structure induced by~$δ$. The usual definitions of an equivariant vector bundle naturally lead, in the context of $\mathbb{K}$-algebras, to an $(H\otimes A)$-module homomorphism \[Θ:H\otimes M\to (H\otimes A)_δ\otimes_AM\] that fulfills some appropriate conditions. On the …
Recent work on perturbative quantum field theory has led to much study of the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra. Its (graded) dual, the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebra of rooted trees, had already been studied by algebraists. L. Foissy introduced a noncommutative version of the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra, which turns out to be self-dual. Using some homomorphisms defined by the author and W. Zhao, we describe a commutative diagram that relates the aforementioned Hopf algebras to each other and to the Hopf algebras of symmetric functions, noncommutative symmetric functions, and quasi-symmetric functions…
In formulating a generalized framework to study certain noncommutative algebras naturally arising in representation theory, K. A. Brown asked if every finitely generated Hopf algebra satisfying a polynomial identity was finite over a normal commutative Hopf subalgebra. In this note we show that Radford's biproduct, applied to the enveloping algebra of the Lie superalgebra pl(1,1), provides a noetherian prime counterexample.
