An s-set is an algebraic generalization of the regular s-manifold introduced by Kowalski, one of the generalized symmetric spaces in differential geometry. We prove that suitable s-sets give birth to dynamical Yang-Baxter maps, set-theoretic solutions to a version of the quantum dynamical Yang-Baxter equation. As an application, Hopf algebroids and rigid tensor categories are constructed by means of these dynamical Yang-Baxter maps.

The notions of a cleft extension and a cross product with a Hopf algebroid are introduced and studied. In particular it is shown that an extension (with a Hopf algebroid $H= (H_L,H_R)$) is cleft if and only if it is $H_R$-Galois and has a normal basis property relative to the base ring $L$ of $H_L$. We extend this result to the generalized morphisms between etale Lie groupoids: we show that any principal H-bundle P over G is uniquely determined by the associated C_c(G)-C_c(H)-bimodule C_c(P) equipped with the natural coalgebra structure.
