An equivariant version of the twisted inverse pseudofunctor is defined, and equivariant versions of some important properties, including the Grothendieck duality of proper morphisms and flat base change are proved. As an application, a generalized version of Watanabe's theorem on the Gorenstein property of the ring of invariants is proved.
Equivariant compactifications of reductive groups can be described by combinatorial data. On the other hand, equivariant compactifications of the additive group G^n_a are more complicated in at least two respects. First, they often admit moduli. Second, even simple varieties (like projective spaces) admit many different structures as equivariant compactifications of the additive group. We give a dictionary relating Artinian local rings, certain systems of partial differential equations, and equivariant compactifications of G^n_a. As an application, we classify the structures on varieties like …
Let $G$ be a simple complex algebraic group, $P$ a parabolic subgroup of $G$ and $N$ the unipotent radical of $P.$ The so-called equivariant compactification of $N$ by $G/P$ is given by an action of $N$ on $G/P$ with a dense open orbit isomorphic to $N$. In this article, we investigate how many such equivariant compactifications there exist. Our result says that there is a unique equivariant compactification of $N$ by $G/P$, up to isomorphism, except $¶^n$.
We study equivariant projective compactifications of reductive groups obtained by closing the image of a group in the space of operators of a projective representation. We describe the structure and the mutual position of their orbits under the action of the doubled group by left/right multiplications, the local structure in a neighborhood of a closed orbit, and obtain some conditions of normality and smoothness of a compactification. Our methods of research use the theory of equivariant embeddings of spherical homogeneous spaces and of reductive algebraic semigroups.
We determine which singular del Pezzo surfaces are equivariant compactifications of G_a^2, to assist with proofs of Manin's conjecture for such surfaces. Additionally, we give an example of a singular quartic del Pezzo surface that is an equivariant compactification of a semidirect product of G_a and G_m.
In this article, we determine all equivariant compactifications of the three-dimensional vector group $\mathbf{G}_a^3$ which are smooth Fano threefolds with Picard number greater or equal than two.
We prove asymptotic formulas for the number of rational points of bounded height on smooth equivariant compactifications of the affine space. (Nous établissons un développement asymptotique du nombre de points rationnels de hauteur bornée sur les compactifications équivariantes lisses de l'espace affine.)
Let X be an $n$-dimensional Fano manifold of Picard number 1. We study how many different ways X can compactify the complex vector group C^n equivariantly. Hassett and Tschinkel showed that when X = P^n with n \geq 2, there are many distinct ways that X can be realized as equivariant compactifications of C^n. Our result says that projective space is an exception: among Fano manifolds of Picard number 1 with smooth VMRT, projective space is the only one compactifying C^n equivariantly in more than one ways. This answers questions raised by Hassett-Tschinkel and Arzhantsev-Sharoyko.
Manin's conjecture predicts an asymptotic formula for the number of rational points of bounded height on a smooth projective variety in terms of its global geometric invariants. The strongest form of the conjecture implies certain inequalities among geometric invariants of the variety and of its subvarieties. We provide a general geometric framework explaining these phenomena, via the notion of balanced line bundles, and prove the required inequalities for a large class of equivariant compactifications of homogeneous spaces.
Let G be a semisimple affine algebraic group and P a parabolic subgroup of G. We classify all flag varieties G/P which admit an action of the commutative unipotent group G_a^n with an open orbit.
We classify generically transitive actions of semidirect products of an additive and a multiplicative group on the projective plane. Motivated by the program to study the distribution of rational points on del Pezzo surfaces (Manin's conjecture), we determine all (possibly singular) del Pezzo surfaces that are equivariant compactifications of homogeneous spaces for such semidirect products.
We study torus-equivariant vector bundles $E$ on a complex projective variety $X$ which is either a Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety or a wonderful compactification of a complex symmetric variety of minimal rank. We show that $E$ is nef (respectively, ample) if and only if its restriction to every torus--invariant curve in $X$ is nef (respectively, ample). We also compute the Seshadri constants $\varepsilon(E,x)$, where $x\, \in\, X$ is any point fixed by the action of a maximal torus.
Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of adjoint type over $\mathbb C$, and let $M$ be the wonderful compactification of a symmetric space $G/H$. Take a $\widetilde G$--equivariant principal $R$--bundle $E$ on $M$, where $R$ is a complex reductive algebraic group and $\widetilde G$ is the universal cover of $G$. If the action of the isotropy group $\widetilde H$ on the fiber of $E$ at the identity coset is irreducible, then we prove that $E$ is polystable with respect to any polarization on $M$. Further, for wonderful compactification of the quotient of $\text{PSL}(n,{\mathbb C})$, $n\,\neq\, 4$…
We study the distribution of rational points of bounded height on a one-sided equivariant compactification of $\mathrm{PGL}_2$ using automorphic representation theory of $\mathrm{PGL}_2$.
By a case-free approach we give a precise description of the closure of a Steinberg fiber within a twisted wonderful compactification of a simple linear algebraic group. In the non-twisted case this description was earlier obtained by the first author.
The starting point of this note is our recent paper with Laza and Saccà on the construction of deformations of O'Grady's $10$-dimensional manifolds as compactifications of intermediate Jacobian fibrations associated to cubic fourfolds. The note provides a complement to that paper consisting in the analogous construction in the twisted case, leading to isogenous but presumably not isomorphic or birational hyper-Kähler manifolds.
By definition, the del Pezzo $3$-fold $V_5$ is the intersection of $\mathrm{Gr}(2,5)$ with three hyperplanes in $\mathbb{P}^9$ under the Plücker embedding. Rational curves in $V_5$ have been studied in various contents of Fano geometry. In this paper, we propose an explicit birational relation of the Kontsevich and Simpson compactifications of twisted cubic curves in $V_5$. As a direct corollary, we obtain a desingularized model of Kontsevich compactification which induces the intersection cohomology group of Kontsevich's space.
In this article we describe the $G\times G$-equivariant $K$-ring of $X$, where $X$ is a regular compactification of a connected complex reductive algebraic group $G$. Furthermore, in the case when $G$ is a semisimple group of adjoint type, and $X$ its wonderful compactification, we describe its ordinary $K$-ring $K(X)$. More precisely, we prove that $K(X)$ is a free module over $K(G/B)$ of rank the cardinality of the Weyl group. We further give an explicit basis of $K(X)$ over $K(G/B)$, and also determine the structure constants with respect to this basis.
We study faithful actions with a dense orbit of abelian unipotent groups on quintic del Pezzo varieties over a field of characteristic zero. Such varieties are forms of linear sections of the Grassmannian of planes in a 5-dimensional vector space. We characterize which smooth forms admit these types of actions and show that in case of existence, the action is unique up to equivalence by automorphisms. We also give a similar classification for mildly singular quintic del Pezzo threefolds and surfaces.

In this article we describe the $\tG\times \tG$-equivariant $K$-ring of $X$, where $\tG$ is a {\it factorial} cover of a connected complex reductive algebraic group $G$, and $X$ is a regular compactification of $G$. Furthermore, using the description of $K_{\tG\times \tG}(X)$, we describe the ordinary $K$-ring $K(X)$ as a free module of rank the cardinality of the Weyl group, over the $K$-ring of a toric bundle over $G/B$, with fibre the toric variety $\bar{T}^{+}$, associated to a smooth subdivision of the positive Weyl chamber. This generalizes our previous work on the wonderful compactifica…
We construct a comparison map from the topological K-theory of the dg-category of twisted perfect complexes on certain global quotient stacks to twisted equivariant K-theory, generalizing constructions of Halpern-Leistner-Pomerleano and Moulinos. We prove that this map is an equivalence if a version of the projective bundle theorem holds for twisted equivariant K-theory. Along the way, we give a new proof of a theorem of Moulinos that the comparison map is an equivalence in the non-equivariant case.
We classify all normal G^2_a-surfaces with Picard number one, and characterize which of these surfaces have at worst log canonical, and which have at worst log terminal singularities, answering a question of Hassett and Tschinkel (Int. Math. Res. Not., 1999). We also find all G^2_a-structures on these surfaces and show that these surfaces and their minimal desingularizations have the same G^2_a-structures (modulo equivalence of G^2_a-actions). In particular, we show that some of these surfaces admit one dimensional moduli of G^2_a-structures, answering another question of Hassett and Tschinkel…
We show that when a torus $T$ acts on a smooth variety $X$, the twisted HKR isomorphism is equivariant. The main consequence is that the Bezrukavnikov- Lachowska isomorphism, relating the Hochschild cohomology of the principal block of the small quantum group to certain sheaf cohomology groups on the Springer resolution $\widetilde{\mathcal{N}}$ , can be upgraded to a ring isomorphism by a twist.
Given a polynomial $W$ with an isolated singularity, we can consider the Jacobian ring as an invariant of the singularity. If in addition we have a group action on the polynomial ring with $W$ fixed, we are led to consider the twisted Jacobian ring which reflects the equivariant structure as well. Our main result is to show that the twisted Jacobian ring is isomorphic to an endomorphism ring of the "twisted diagonal" matrix factorization. As an application, we suggest a way to investigate Floer theory of Lagrangian submanifolds which represent homological mirror functors.
We show that the equivariant chain complex associated to a minimal CW-structure X on the complement M(A) of a hyperplane arrangement A, is independent of X. When A is a sufficiently general linear section of an aspheric arrangement, we explain a new way for computing the twisted homology of M(A).
The goal of the present paper is to construct a smooth compactification of the moduli superstack classifying pointed $\mathcal{N} =1$ SUSY (= $\text{SUSY}_1$) curves. This construction is based on the Abramovich-Jarvis-Chiodo compactification of the moduli stack classifying spin curves. First, we give a general framework of a theory of log superschemes (or more generally, log superstacks). Then, we introduce the notion of a pointed (stable) log twisted $\text{SUSY}_1$ curve; it may be thought of as a logarithmic and twisted generalization of the classical notion of a pointed $\text{SUSY}_1$ cu…
We use the theory of twisted stable maps to Deligne-Mumford stacks to construct compactifications of the moduli space of pairs $(X \to C, S + F)$ where $X \to C$ is a fibered surface, $S$ is a sum of sections, $F$ is a sum of marked fibers, and $(X, S + F)$ is a stable pair in the sense of the minimal model program. This generalizes the work of Abramovich-Vistoli, who compactified the moduli space of fibered surfaces without marked fibers. Furthermore, we compare our compactification to Alexeev's space of stable maps and the KSBA compactification of stable pairs. As an application, we describe…
We present an equivariant extension of the Thom form with respect to a vector field action, in the framework of the Mathai-Quillen formalism. The associated Topological Quantum Field Theories correspond to twisted $N=2$ supersymmetric theories with a central charge. We analyze in detail two different cases: topological sigma models and non-abelian monopoles on four-manifolds.
To any affine scheme with a $\mathbb{G}_m$-action, we provide a Bousfield colocalization on the equivariant derived category of modules by constructing, via homotopical methods, an idempotent integral kernel. This endows the equivariant derived category with a canonical semi-orthogonal decomposition. As a special case, we demonstrate that grade-restriction windows appear as a consequence of this construction, giving a new proof of wall-crossing equivalences which works over an arbitrary base. The construction globalizes to yield interesting integral transforms associated to $D$-flips.
Using stable log maps, we introduce log twisted differentials extending the notion of abelian differentials to the Deligne-Mumford boundary of stable curves. The moduli stack of log twisted differentials provides a compactification of the strata of abelian differentials. The open strata can have up to three connected components, due to spin and hyperelliptic structures. We prove that the spin parity can be distinguished on the boundary of the log compactification. Moreover, combining the techniques of log geometry and admissible covers, we introduce log twisted hyperelliptic differentials, and…
We extend Bezrukavnikov and Finkelberg's description of the G(\C[[t]])-equivariant derived category on the affine Grassmannian to the twisted setting of Finkelberg and Lysenko. Our description is in terms of coherent sheaves on the twisted dual Lie algebra. We also extend their computation of the corresponding loop rotation equivariant derived category, which is described in terms of Harish-Chandra bimodules for the twisted dual Lie algebra. To carry this out, we have to find a substitute for the functor of global equivariant cohomology. We describe such a functor, and show as in Bezrukavnikov…
Drinfeld's relative compactification plays a basic role in the theory of automorphic sheaves, and its singularities encode representation-theoretic information in the form of intersection cohomology. We introduce a resolution of singularities consisting of stable maps from nodal deformations of the curve into twisted flag varieties. As an application, we prove that the twisted intersection cohomology sheaf on Drinfeld's compactification is universally locally acyclic over the moduli stack of $G$-bundles at points sufficiently antidominant relative to their defect.
We study the asymptotic distribution of integral points of bounded height on partial bi-equivariant compactifications of semi-simple groups of adjoint type.
In this paper, we describe the category of bi-equivariant vector bundles on a bi-equivariant smooth (partial) compactification of a reductive algebraic group with normal crossing boundary divisors. Our result is a generalization of the description of the category of equivariant vector bundles on toric varieties established by A.A. Klyachko [Math. USSR. Izvestiya, {\bf 35}, No.2 (1990)]. As an application, we prove splitting of equivariant vector bundles of low rank on the wonderful compactification of an adjoint semisimple group in the sense of C. De Concini and C. Procesi [Lecture Note in Mat…
We investigate the analytic properties of the zeta-function associated with heights on equivariant compactifications of anisotropic tori over number fields. This allows to verify conjectures about the distribution of rational points of bounded height.
We provide a complete motivic decomposition of a twisted form of a smooth hyperplane section of Gr(3,6). This variety is a norm variety corresponding to a (3,3)-symbol.
We introduce twisted K-theoretic Gromov-Witten invariants - in the frameworks of both "ordinary" and permutation-equivariant K-theoretic GW theory defined recently by Givental. We focus on the case when the twisting is given by the Euler class - we characterize in both cases the range of the $J$-function of the twisted theory in terms of the untwisted theory. As applications we use the D_q module structure in the permutation-equivariant case to generalize results of Givental: we prove a "quantum Lefschetz" type theorem and we relate points on the cones of the total space with those of the base…
Let $X$ be the wonderful compactification of a complex adjoint symmetric space $G/K$ such that $rk(G/K)=rk(G)-rk(K)$. We show how to extend equivariant vector bundles on $G/K$ to equivariant vector bundles on $X$, generated by their global sections and having trivial higher cohomology groups. This relies on a geometric construction of equivariant vector bundles in the setting of varieties with reductive group action and ``multiplicity-free'' subvarieties.
We describe supersymmetric A-branes and B-branes in open N=(2,2) dynamically gauged nonlinear sigma models (GNLSM), placing emphasis on toric manifold target spaces. For a subset of toric manifolds, these equivariant branes have a mirror description as branes in gauged Landau-Ginzburg models with neutral matter. We then study correlation functions in the topological A-twisted version of the GNLSM, and identify their values with open Hamiltonian Gromov-Witten invariants. Supersymmetry breaking can occur in the A-twisted GNLSM due to nonperturbative open symplectic vortices, and we canonically B…
